Abstract:
ABSTRACT Rho family small GTPases are key regulators of the actin cytoskeleton in various cell types. The Rnd proteins, Rnd1, Rnd2, and Rnd3/RhoE, have been recently identified as new members of the Rho family of GTPases, and expression of Rnd1 or Rnd3 in fibroblasts causes the disassembly of actin stress fibers and the retraction of the cell body to produce extensively branching cellular processes. Here we have performed a yeast two-hybrid screening by using Rnd1 as bait and identified a novel protein that specifically binds to Rnd GTPases. We named this protein Socius. Socius directly binds to Rnd GTPases through its COOH-terminal region. When transfected into COS-7 cells, Socius is translocated to the cell periphery in response to Rnd1 and Rnd3 and colocalized with the GTPases. While expression of wild-type Socius in Swiss 3T3 fibroblasts has little effect on the actin cytoskeleton, the expression of a membrane-targeted form of Socius, containing a COOH-terminal farnesylation motif (Socius-CAAX), induces a dramatic loss of stress fibers. The inhibitory effect of Socius-CAAX on stress fiber formation is enhanced by truncation of its NH2 terminus. On the other hand, the expression of Socius-CAAX or its NH2 terminus-truncated form suppresses the Rnd-induced retraction of the cell body and the production of extensively branching cellular processes, although the disassembly of stress fibers is observed. We propose that Socius participates in the Rnd GTPase-induced signal transduction pathways, leading to reorganization of the actin cytoskeleton.

V knjigi Anti-Ojdip Gilles Deleuze in Felix Guattari razločujeta med dvema vrstama spomina: besednim ali aliansnim ter biofiliacijskim. V njuni koncepciji družbe primata nima menjava, temveč dolg: temeljno družbeno razmerje je torej razmerje med upnikom in dolžnikom. Nujni pogoj tega razmerja je spomin, ki zagotavlja, da dolg ni pozabljen. Vendar ta spomin ni samoumeven, ampak ga je bilo treba človeku šele narediti. To »predzgodovinsko delo človeka« Deleuze in Guattari interpretirata kot osrednji napor »primitivnega sociusa«, ki sestoji iz vseh krutih tehnik vpisovanja v telo, kar imenujeta »sistem krutosti«. Avtorja se opreta na Nietzschejevo Genealogijo morale in trdita, da se besedni spomin vzpostavi na podlagi »aktivne sposobnosti pozabe« in s »potlačitvijo biološkega spomina«. Če je sredstvo vzpostavitve besednega spomina sistem krutosti in njen agens aliansa oziroma primitivni socius sam, kaj točno je potlačitev in kaj je tisto, kar je potlačeno? The principle “the partner of my partner is not my partner” in a consilium by Alexander TartagnusThe article focuses on one of the consilia by Alexander Tartagnus de Imola, a 15th-centry doctor of both laws, concerning partnership. The principle of a partnership is that participation in it is voluntary. In Roman law it was defined as a consensual contract, i.e. one based on an agreement between the parties consensus. What should we do, however, when a partner we trusted when the contract was concluded introduces another partner? The answer provided by Roman law was very clear: Socii mei socius meus socius non est the partner of my partner is not my partner. The consilium presented in the article is an interesting example of the application of the Roman principle of socius socii mei socius meus non est in 15th-century legal doctrine. It demonstrates the durability of the tradition of thinking about partnerships since ancient times.Der Grundsatz „Der Gesellschafter meines Gesellschafters ist nicht mein Gesellschafter“ in einem Consilium des Alexander TartagnusGegenstand dieses Artikels ist ein der Consilien des Alexander Tartagnus de Imola, Doktor für beide Rechte aus dem 15. Jahrhundert, das die Gesellschaft betrifft. Für eine Gesellschaft gilt, dass die Beteiligung an ihr freiwillig ist. Das römische Recht betrachtete sie als einen Konsensvertrag, also einen, der auf der Verständigung der Parteien consensus basiert. Was aber, wenn der Gesellschafter, dem wir bei dem Vertragsschluss vertraut hatten, einen neuen Gesellschafter dazu nehmen wird. Das römische Recht hatte hierauf eine deutliche Antwort: Socii mei socius meus socius non est Gesellschafter meines Gesellschafters ist nicht mein Gesellschafter. Das in diesem Artikel präsentierte consilium ist ein interessantes Beispiel für die Anwendung des römischen Grundsatzes socius socii mei socius meus non est in der Rechtslehre des 15. Jahrhunderts. Es zeigt die Beständigkeit der Tradition bei der Betrachtung der Gesellschaft seit der Antike.

Abstract:
This study is an attempt to evaluate and compare the performance of State-Owned Commercial Banks (SOCBs) and Private Commercial Banks (PCBs) of Bangladesh. CAMEL rating model has been applied to confess where a bank can be successful and where it has weaknesses. Data have been collected from four SOCBs and eight PCBs for the years 2014–2017. Among the selected SOCBs, it is found that Agrani Bank holds “Satisfactory” position where Sonali Bank holds “Fair” position through the year 2014–2017. On the other hand, Janata bank has improved its position from “Fair” to “Satisfactory” for the year 2016 and 2017. Moreover, Rupali Bank holds ‘Satisfactory’ position only for the year 2017 where this position was “Fair” for the year 2014–2016. On the other hand, it is found that all the selected PCBs hold “Satisfactory” position through the year 2014–2017. Though the composite rating for both types of banks (SOCBs and PCBs) is in “Satisfactory level”, Rank-1 is given to PCBs and Rank-2 is given to SOCBs. CAMEL ratio for “Asset quality” for both types of banks (SOCBs and PCBs) are showing “Dissatisfactory level”. “Earning quality” of SOCBs is showing at a “Marginal level”. Therefore, proper attention should be given to manage the “Asset quality” and SOCBs should increase the “Earning quality”.

Abstract:
El trabajo es una de las actividades humanas más relevantes de la vida, produce efectos sobre las personas y las organizaciones. Se ha incitado desde los organismos internacionales hacía los países a tomar resguardos respecto no sólo de la seguridad física sino también en lo que refiere a lo psicosocial en los/as trabajadores/as. En Chile, desde el año 2013, se aplica el Protocolo de Vigilancia de Riesgos Psicosociales en el Trabajo para las distintas organizaciones laborales. En este artículo se da cuenta de los riesgos psicosociales de socios/as trabajadores/as de seis cooperativas de trabajo, en un estudio mixto, se observa que en los resultados a nivel cuantitativo las organizaciones obtienen en 4 de las 5 dimensiones un riesgo bajo (exigencias psicológicas, trabajo activo, apoyo social en la empresa y compensaciones), mientras que en la dimensión de doble presencia obtienen un nivel de riesgo alto. Al vincular los resultados con el análisis cualitativo, se obtienen antecedentes que permiten comprender que las prácticas de gestión cooperativa estarían influyendo de manera compensativa respecto de otros riesgos psicosociales presentes.

Abstract:

The evolving technology has over the past decade contributed to a bandwidth explosion on the Internet. This makes it interesting to look at the development of the workhorses of the Internet, the core routers. The main objective of this project is to develop a 16 port gigabit core router architecture using intellectual property (IP) blocks and a SoCBUS on-chip interconnection network.

The router architecture will be evaluated by making simulations using the SoCBUS simulation environment. Some changes will be made to the current simulator to make the simulations of the core router more realistic. By studying the SoCBUS network load the bottlenecks of the architecture can be found. Changes to the router design and SoCBUS architecture will be made in order to boost the performance of the router.

The router developed in this project can under normal traffic conditions handle a throughput of 16x10Gbit/s without dropping packets. This core router is good enough to compete with the top of the line single-chip core routers on the market today. The advantage of this architecture compared to others is that it is very flexible when it comes too adding new functionality. The general on-chip network also reduces the design time of this system.

Abstract:

The computer engineering department at Linköping University has a research project which investigates the use of an on-chip network in a router. There has been an implementation of it in a FPGA and for this router there is a need for buffer memory. This thesis extends the router design with a DDR memory controller which uses the features provided by the Virtex-II FPGA family.

The thesis shows that by carefully scheduling the DDR SDRAM memory high volume transfers are possible and the memory can be used quite effciently despite its rather complex interface.

The DDR memory controller developed is part of a packet buffer module which is integrated and tested with a previous, slightly modifed, FPGA based router design. The performance of this router is investigated using real network interfaces and due to the poor network performance of desktop computers special hardware is developed for this purpose.

Abstract:

The purpose of this report is to implement and evaluate parts of the simulation software used in the SoCBUS project. In order to complete and evaluate the entire software package, a traffic model and a stimuli generator must be implemented. They are implemented and evaluated together with the entire simulator software. The purpose of the Traffic model is to model communication traffic as good and descriptive as possible. The output of the Traffic model is called a test case, which works as input for the Stimuli generator. The Stimuli generator computes and creates an event list for the Simulator. This report will investigate and motivate the presented traffic model and stimuli generator in detail. The simulator software is then tested with two separate test cases in order to investigate if the simulator software works properly. The results are promising and the simulator software behaves as expected.

Abstract:

The computer engineering group at Linköping University has parts of their research dedicated to networks-on-chip and components used in network components and terminals. This research has among others resulted in the SoCBUS NOC and a flow based network protocol processor. The main objective of this project was to integrate these components into an IP router with two or more Gigabit Ethernet interfaces.

A working system has been designed and found working. It consists of three main components, the input module, the output module and a packet buffer. Due to the time constraint and the size of the project the packet buffer could not be designed to be as efficient as possible, thus reducing the overall performance. The SoCBUS also has negative impact on performance, although this could probably be reduced with a revised system design. If such a project is carried out it could use the input and output modules from this project, which connect to SoCBUS and can easily be integrated with other packet buffers and system designs.

Privat annonsering har flyttats från dagspress till nätet vilket har bidragit till bättre sökfunktioner och rikare beskrivning. Då tiden vi spenderar på nätet ökar så öppnar det för att kunna kommunicera i realtid med användare som är online. Tyvärr finns det ingen bra tjänst idag för att kunna kommunicera på något annats sätt än telefon och e-mail.

För att skapa ett rikare sätt att kommunicera så skapade jag denna tjänst som gör det möjligt för användare att föra olika konversationer. För att öka säkerhet mellan både säljare och köpare har det skapats betygsättning och att användare registrerar personuppgifter för kontroll av den andra parten. Detta arbete har varit av stort eget intresse för att öka kommunikationsmöjligheterna mellan människor.

De tekniker som jag använt har bestått av PHP ramverket Codeigniter som bygger på MVC. För presentation har jag jobbat mycket med jQuery och CSS för att skapa de effekter som jag velat åstadkomma. För lagning har jag använt MySQL. Resultatet blev en sida som är en annonssida med den funktionalitet som en Community har.

Existe un tiempo limitado para reflejar y representar el estilo personal. La moda se ha vuelto una forma de representarse e individualizarse y los accesorios dentro del vestuario de las personas han tomado cada vez más protagonismo, ya que la gente busca diferenciarse y expresarse a través de los pequeños detalles como la corbata, lentes, colleras, cinturón e incluso relojes. Hoy el mundo corporativo exige en su mayoría atenerse a un código de vestimenta bastante acotado, por lo que los accesorios se han convertido en modos de individualizarse. Es por esto que cada vez más en lugares de todo el mundo se ha visto un crecimiento en el uso de accesorios anteriormente nombrados, viéndose desarrolladas cada vez más de estas categorías, partiendo por la categoría de relojería, corbatería, cinturones, lentes son categorías ya maduras con gran cantidad de actores participantes y donde el precio promedio se ha visto incrementado durante los años gracias a la innovación tanto en materiales de producción como en diseño. Algo similar se espera por parte de la categoría de los calcetines, si bien esta categoría representa un mercado maduro, que durante muchos años no creció y la mayor innovación fue de parte de las marcas deportivas desarrollando calcetines distintos por tipo de deporte (ejemplo Running y Fútbol). Finalmente se crea una nueva subcategoría que remece esta categoría con baja innovación e involucramiento por parte de los consumidores. En base a esta oportunidad y al fanatismo por esta prenda por parte de Ricardo, funda su propia empresa y crea la marca Socks Lab (que viene de Laboratorio de Calcetines) donde se busca desarrollar distintos tipos de calcetines para las personas de hoy enfocado en crear diseños lúdicos y entretenidos con elementos del día a día o elementos icónicos. Socks Lab ofrece la oportunidad de realizar un statement sutil de su personalidad y de diferenciarse del resto ofreciendo un producto de consumo masivo con diseños únicos diseñados en Chile. Socks Lab permite a las personas reflejar su estilo e individualidad a través de un producto innovador, con diseños creativos. Es una invitación a dejar los calcetines aburridos y atreverse a impresionar a colegas y amigos. Sociality and cooperation are universal features of life, yet cooperative societies are highly vulnerable to conflicts-of-interests which may lead to societal collapse. Dominance may function as a central mechanism behind the maintenance of cooperative societies, because it may reduce conflict by the establishment of hierarchies, and may act in concert with kin selection, enforcement or signalling mechanisms to promote cooperation. Yet, the significance of dominance in the evolutionary routes that maintain cooperation remains poorly understood (Chapter 1). Sociable weavers Philetairus socius are highly social, cooperative passerines. The species is particularly prone to conflicts because of their year-round coloniality and thus year round sharing of resources. Using extensive field-data on individual behaviour, I examine in this thesis whether dominance may mitigate conflict and maintain cooperation, and how it may inform our understanding of the evolutionary mechanisms underlying cooperation. In Chapter2, I investigate whether hierarchies and phenotypic traits allowing the assessment of social status may have evolved to mediate conflicts. I show that weavers establish ordered hierarchies within colonies and that the size of a melanin-based plumage trait, the black bib, is correlated to social status. In Chapter 3, experimental manipulation supports my proposition of a status signalling function of the bib. In Chapter 4, I investigate the benefits of achieving high social status and whether these are shared with relatives through nepotism. Both dominants and their offspring gain enhanced access to resources. Dominants had more access to breeding positions, although this was not reflected by increased reproductive success. In Chapter 5, I explore how dominance and kinship predict individual cooperativeness to three tasks, nestling provisioning, nest construction and predator mobbing. I find that both explain variation in cooperativeness, yet some results follow opposite directions, revealing multiple routes to cooperation. Finally, in Chapter 6, I examine how dominance and kinship structure weavers' social network and whether network position are linked to cooperativeness. Social network analyses reveal that more central birds are more, related, dominant and cooperative. Chapter 7 concludes that dominance acts in concert with kinship to promote the societal lifestyle of sociable weavers highlighting the potential significance of dominance in the evolution of cooperation.

Resumo: Investigacoes sobre organismos sociais como sistemas complexos, juntamente a aplicacao da teoria de redes sociais para compreensao de padroes comportamentais, vem ganhando grande espaco dentro da biologia nos ultimos anos. Neste trabalho, analisamos caracteristicas estruturais das redes de interacao social em colonias de formigas da especie Odontomachus chelifer. Estas caracteristicas foram investigadas de acordo com os avancos mais recentes na teoria de grafos embasada pela metodologia de analise de redes sociais. Duas colonias com rainhas foram coletadas entre marco e abril de 2011 na cidade de Curitiba, Parana. Apos a coleta, as colonias foram mantidas em ninhos artificiais de gesso e aclimatadas por 3 semanas antes das observacoes. As interacoes de limpeza social e comportamentos agonisticos de dominancia, assim como os pares de individuos que interagiram, foram registrados para ambas colonias em um total de 20 horas de observacao. A partir destes dados, tres sociogramas foram construidos para cada colonia: i) rede total de interacoes, ii) rede de limpeza social e iii) rede de interacoes de dominancia. As analises corresponderam a caracterizacao de metricas basicas das redes, sua distribuicao de graus e evolucao das metricas ao longo do gradiente temporal. O tamanho da rede, numero de interacoes e conectancia variaram de acordo com cada colonia. O caminho minimo medio e o coeficiente de agrupamento nao diferiram do esperado para redes aleatorias, de modo que as redes nao apresentaram caracteristica de mundo pequeno. A distribuicao de graus assemelha-se ao esperado para redes aleatorias, sendo diferente de um padrao livre-deescala ou larga-escala. Ela foi caracterizada como heterogenea, decrescente e enviesada para a direita. Padroes semelhantes ja foram relatados para outras redes de interacao em insetos sociais e podem conferir vantagens adaptativas para o funcionamento da colonia. O crescimento do numero de vertices ao longo do tempo foi bem descrito por uma lei de potencia, e as caracteristicas estruturais variaram consideravelmente de acordo com o gradiente temporal. Um maior numero de estudos sobre a estrutura e dinamica da redes de interacoes sociais em formigas podem ser de grande contribuicao para o estudo de fenomenos complexos, assim como oferecer novas maneiras de se compreender a ecologia comportamental e o impacto da estrutura social em processos evolutivos.

Abstract:
Abstract A new method for analyzing overconstrained mechanisms is presented in this paper according to the kinematic compatibility criterion of single-opened-chains (SOCs). This criterion states that: if for any value of an active input, two SOCs have die same distances and angles between two ending axes of each SOC, and the difference of axis-lengths corresponding to each hand-side for two SOCs is kept constant, then the two SOCs can be combined together as one closure loop which is an overconstrained mechanism. This method is simple with four clear targets. It is quite different from other methods because the input-output relationships of variables can be obtained during overconstraint analysis. In order to find overconstrained mechanisms, we can begin with parts of compatibility conditions to obtain some kinematic relationships, so that the input-output law and the overconstraint conditions satisfying all compatibility relationships could be given. As examples, the 4R overconstrained mechanisms and a 4R2P overconstrained mechanism are proved using this method.

Although game-theoretical models to study social and economic problems have existed for a long time, they have been sparsely used for the design of engineering systems. This is due to the significant theoretical hurdles posed by game formulations for real engineering environments /problems. In this study we show our first attempt at adapting the frame-work of game-theoretical models for engineering problems, in particular the aero-mechanical optimization of a notional turbine blade. We pose the design problem as a series of games, starting with the determination of the Pareto front, the non-cooperative (disagreement) point and the optimal solution as the tangent intersection of the Pareto front and contours of the overall system objective. We present gradient-based algorithms that determine the Pareto front, the non-cooperative solution and the tangent solution. The solution to this series of games provides the basis of a new equilibrium concept namely, System Optimal Cooperative Solution (SOCS), which is the central theme of this paper. Finally we compare the SOCS solution against other cooperative solutions like Nash-Bargaining [1]. The results of this study show that in engineering environments previously known cooperative solutions like Nash-Bargaining and Kalai-Smordinsky [2] are not that important while the notion of a System Optimal Cooperative Solution, SOCS, is the equilibrium solution of relevance. For the particular example we consider, the SOCS is shown to be more favoring the aerodynamic performance when compared against the Nash-Bargaining equilibrium solution.

Los Residuos de Construcción y Demolición son cualquier sustancia u objeto que, cumpliendo la definición de residuo, se genera en una obra de construcción, rehabilitación o demolición. En España se genera aproximadamente una tonelada de estos residuos por persona y año, en total unos 45 millones de toneladas de residuos procedentes del sector de la construcción, sólo el 25 % de ellos se gestionan de forma adecuada. Esto supone graves consecuencias para el medio ambiente debido a la contaminación de los suelos y acuíferos, además de suponer un gran consumo de los recursos del planeta tanto en materias primas como en recursos energéticos para su producción. El proyecto CONDEREFF es un proyecto europeo que pretende acelerar la labor de la política de gestión de los residuos de construcción y demolición, mejorando la eficiencia de los recursos en los países de la asociación. Su principal objetivo es el impulso de una nueva política comunitaria y buenas prácticas para el reciclado y la reutilización de materiales. Para alcanzar estos objetivos, el proyecto reúne a 8 socios de 7 países para intercambiar experiencias y prácticas, así como estudios sobre residuos C & D, empleando un enfoque de cooperación transnacional que involucra a las autoridades públicas, empresas del sector, organismos competentes y partes interesadas. La UPV lidera el proyecto internacional, centrándose en analizar las políticas existentes en esta materia, en cada uno de los países socios, en cada una de las etapas de la construcción y demolición y en todos los agentes implicados. El objetivo final es transferir las lecciones aprendidas en las políticas regionales y planes de acción. Esperando como consecuencia, la proliferación de infraestructuras, y métodos para el reciclaje y la reutilización de los materiales de desecho e iniciando una transición hacia una economía circular.
