The starting-point of this paper is the central idea of the moral meaning of human existence. It could be said that this idea is part of another one from Schopenhauer (he speaks about existence in general andnot only about human existence). and it tries to come to light in the philosophical project of the so-called discursive ethics, although in a very different form. Itis referred critically to this form in the last section of the paper. The nature of sociability in the digital world has attracted much attention, with theories of the network society describing the formation of networked connections across distant geographies. Policymakers are optimistic about the potential for these new forms of connectivity to overcome some of the longstanding disadvantages of rural life. However, a prerequisite for full and meaningful participation in the network society is equal access to digital infrastructure, and a persistent urban–rural divide in this regard has been documented across Britain. Abstract:
This thesis develops a theoretical and practical framework of analysis for measuring the liveliness of urban streets. It studies the inter-related functions of streets to cater for the dynamic activities of people (walking) and the more static activities such as stopping, sitting, standing, waiting, watching, eating, etc. Practically, this framework measures the empirical relationship (the configuration) between these spatial and social functions, (the accessibility and sociability of the street). The sociability is measured through the capacity of the street to accommodate static activities.

Abstract:
Seventeenth-century female rigorists have received little archival study since the nineteenth century, when they were at once mythologized as beautiful luminaries or 'precieuses' who monopolized the salons, and reduced to the 'Belles Amies' of the Jansenist convent of Port-Royal. This study attempts to show that they have been misinterpreted. It shows that by neglecting the correspondence of these women, historians have missed some of the richest descriptions of how female piety evolved after the devot generation pioneered the Catholic Reformation in France. This thesis proposes that within th

A abordagem, por isso, tem como foco o processo de constituição de um lugar, ao longo do tempo e como as práticas e espaços de sociabilidade disponíveis foram se transformando no processo, ou sendo alteradas pelas próprias transformações na sociedade local, sempre em a

This dissertation contains the research and work completed by the PhD candidate on the incorporation of sociability and creativity skills to computers and robots. Both skills can be directly related with empathy, which is the ability to understand and share the feelings of another. In this form, this research can be contextualized in the framework of recent developments towards the achievement of empathy machines. The first challenge at hands refers to designing pioneering techniques based on the use of social robots to improve user experience interacting with them. In particular, research

This thesis reconsiders a highly mobile form of portraiture, the early modern portrait medal, by examining its active role in the intersubjective relations and networks of diverse individuals. By attending to three distinct moments between 1400 and 1700, the mutability of the role of medaglie – the early modern term for portrait medals, antique coins, and contemporary coinage – is made clear. Examining the representation of medaglie in painted and printed portraits during these years allows for a comparative consideration of the medaglie’s role in historically contingent forms of intersubjecti

Abstract:
The social element of playing games is what makes us play together to enjoy more than just what the game itself has to offer. There are millions of games with different rules and goals; They are played by people of many cultures and various ages. However, this social element remains as crucial. Nowadays, the role of social robots and virtual agents is rapidly expanding in daily activities and entertainment and one of these areas is games. Therefore, it seems desirable for an agent to be able to play games socially, as opposed to simply having the computer make the moves in game application.

Abstract:
The eighteenth century in England has long been associated with increasing consumption, trade, luxury, and intellectual exchange. In contrast with the religiously-fueled tumult of the previous century, it is frequently portrayed as a polite, enlightened and even secularising age. This thesis questions this picture. Taking the ambiguous legacies of the so-called "Toleration Act" of 1689 as its starting point, it explores the impact of the complex and uncertain outcomes of the 1689 Act on social relations between Protestant Dissenters and members of the Established Church in England in the first
