Abstract:
Following ostracism, individuals are highly sensitive to social cues. Here we investigate whether and when minimal acknowledgment can improve need satisfaction following an ostracism experience. In four studies, participants were either ostracized during Cyberball (Studies 1 and 2) or through a novel apartment-application paradigm (Studies 3 and 4). To signal acknowledgment following ostracism, participants were either thrown a ball a few times at the end of the Cyberball game, or received a message that was either friendly, neutral, or hostile in the apartment-application paradigm. Both forms of acknowledgment increased need satisfaction, even when the acknowledgment was hostile (Study 4), emphasizing the beneficial effect of any kind of acknowledgment following ostracism. Reinclusion buffered threat immediately, whereas acknowledgment without reinclusion primarily aided recovery. Our results suggest that minimal acknowledgment such as a few ball throws or even an unfriendly message can reduce the sting of ostracism.

Abstract:
Trauma disclosure can facilitate trauma recovery. However, survivors might be reluctant to talk about their traumatic experiences if they perceive that their experiences are not acknowledged. We aimed to explore how social acknowledgment is associated with trauma disclosure in a sample of Lithuanian trauma survivors. In total 189 survivors exposed to various traumatic experiences participated in the study. Regression analysis revealed that trauma survivors were more willing to disclose their traumatic experiences when they perceived more social recognition and less disapproval from others. We conclude that our study indicates the importance of social acknowledgment for trauma disclosure among trauma survivors.

King, Kenya Latonya. "The Role of Ethnic Identity in Exposure, Acknowledgment and Adjustment After Rape in Black Females." Thesis, Virginia Tech, 2009. http://hdl.handle.net/10919/46330.

Full text
Abstract:
Most current literature has ignored the impact of exposure to rape, acknowledgement of the event as such, and psychological adjustment after rape on Black women. This study examines whether the basic relationships that have been established with predominately White samples replicate in a Black female sample. Importantly, the current study also explores whether ethnic identity moderates the aforementioned relationships. Black females were recruited from two universities, one predominately White and one historically Black, to participate in a web-based survey. Participants were recruited via departmental and university listservs, university-related research posts, psychology departments, and flyers. Three hundred sixteen eligible respondents completed the survey, with data collected over a three semester period. Participants completed demographic information, measures of ethnic identity, negative sexual experiences, anxiety, depression, and social support. Those who endorsed having had an experience that met the legal definition of rape in adolescence or adulthood provided further information about the characteristics of the experience, gave a label for the unwanted sexual contact, and completed a measure of posttraumatic stress disorder. Fourteen percent of the sample reported an experience that met the legal definition of rape. Sixty-nine percent of those women were unacknowledged. Results of replication-related hypotheses regarding the relationship between exposure, acknowledgement, and adjustment yielded partial support. The data supported that exposure to rape was related to psychological adjustment. Evidence was found that victims had higher anxiety and depression symptomatology than non-victims. There were mixed findings regarding acknowledgment status and psychological adjustment. The data failed to support the hypothesis that acknowledged and unacknowledged victims significantly differ on depression, anxiety, or PTSD scores. The data did support that acknowledged women experienced more psychological distress than non-victims. There were mixed findings regarding acknowledgment status and features of the exposure. Contrary to the hypothesis and previous research, there was not evidence that unacknowledged women and acknowledged women differ in terms of relationship to the offender and level of force or resistance used during the assault. Moderation hypotheses were partially supported. Data failed to support the hypothesis that ethnic identity moderates the relationship between exposure to rape and depression, anxiety, or social support. Evidence was not found that ethnic identity moderates the relationship between acknowledgement status and social support, depression, or anxiety. There was evidence that ethnic identity moderates the relationship between acknowledgement status and PTSD symptoms. Consistent with the hypotheses, results suggest that ethnic identity is positively related to the psychological well being of Black women and may have implications for the relationship between acknowledging a rape event and PTSD symptomatology. Clinical implications, threats to internal and external validity, and future directions for research with ethnic minorities are also discussed.
Master of Science

Abstract:
For the past two decades there has been an ever expanding interest in the implications of spirituality and, or, religion within the professional practice of social work (Anderson and Angell, 1999; Bishop, Avila-Juarbe, & Thumme, 2003; Cornett, 1992; Northcut, 1999; Northcut, 2000; Praglin, 2004 ; Sheridan, Wilmer and Atcheson,1994). Increasingly, scholars and social workers alike have been considering the appropriateness of inclusion and the practical implications involved. This interest has developed to include attention to spirituality within varying ethical codes and definitions of social work. This is evident in international social work organisations such as the IFSW (International Federation of Social Workers) and IASSW (International Association of Schools of Social Work). Both have begun to include religious and, or, spiritual concerns into professional practice principles. In Aotearoa New Zealand the Aotearoa New Zealand Association of Social Workers (ANZASW) is a member of these international bodies; thus the profession is bound to the above principles. Additionally, the Aotearoa New Zealand Social Workers Registration Board (SWRB) code of practice reflects the standards and ethical codes of the ANZASW. Moreover, spirituality and, or, religion is an important aspect for different client groups within the Aotearoa social services context. This is particularly so within bicultural frameworks. Despite this, little attention has been given to exploring how social workers and social service agencies in Aotearoa New Zealand integrate this aspect in their work with clients to meet the varying ethical requirements. Additionally, little investigation has been undertaken to explore the implications religion and, or, spirituality might have within the Aotearoa New Zealand Social Services context. To date a number of conversations have occurred with regard to spirituality and religious concerns for Tangata Whenua, and to a lesser degree Tagata Pasifika. This study seeks to address the paucity of information by undertaking a mixed methods investigation of the role religion and spirituality has within Aotearoa New Zealand social work.

It departs from the assumption of social life as a programmatic action of social service policy in order to assure social security. Drawn upon theory of recognition and theory of social bonds, this study seeks to point out how relationships may promote protection and acknowledgment, although it also may create humiliation, undervaluation, and subordination. Due to these situations are harsh to be coped with by the subjects who suffer them, this study defends the crucial role of the State and specifically the social service policy to act upon these relationships. This requires strengthening social service policy towards a democratic mode which respects the autonomy of the subjects in taking decisions and offers opportunities to living the experience of social life as social protection. In order to strengthen social service policy it is necessary the production of knowledge on situations of suffering to take them as demanding social work attention and to overcome conservative practices which devalues the subject and consequently constitutes an expression of segregation rather than protection
Abstract:

Abstract:
Title: Who is the expert and on what? A qualitative study of the social workers response of the client. The purpose with this study is to obtain an insight in how the social workers reason around the interaction with the client and how they see the client as an expert on herself. The study is qualitative and is based on semi-structured interviews with nine informants from different parts of the social Service from municipalities. The qualitative study has an inductive and a deductive approach and a perspective that is constructivism. These interviews were thematized and three themes emerged. The first theme was about the response of the client and how the social workers looks at their role as professional in relation to the clients they encounter. Another key part of the same theme was the meeting with the client. The second theme has the client as the expert as the central part. The key here was the profession's view of the client's own knowledge about themselves and how social workers handle the client's knowledge. The third and last theme was all about how the profession meets and treats the client on the basis of guidelines and manuals. Central to this theme was this how the social worker looks at the use of guidelines and manuals during the meeting with the client, which some see them as a help and some see that sometimes these become a hindrance. These three themes are on social workers perspective on the treatment of the client from different angles.

Abstract:

Abstract:
A paramount hope of Serbians who supported the ICTY was that its judgments would convince Serbian society that Serbs committed mass atrocities with extensive support from the Serbian government, and would persuade Serbia’s citizens and government to condemn those crimes unequivocally. During the first five or six years following the collapse of the Milošević regime, there was palpable progress in this sphere, a trend many Serbians believe the ICTY influenced. More recent years have, however, seen a rise in denialism. This chapter explores factors that account for each of these trends. Its conclusions reflect the rich insights of Serbians who administered periodic public opinion surveys, as well as social science research illuminating dynamics behind entrenched yet false beliefs, such as confirmation biases, motivated reasoning, social identity, heuristics, and framing effects.

Abstract:
This book provides an overview of current social psychological scholarship on collective victimhood. Drawing on different contexts of collective victimization—such as those due to genocide, war, ethnic or religious conflict, racism, colonization, Islamophobia, the caste system, and other forms of direct and structural collective violence—this edited volume presents theoretical ideas and empirical findings concerning the psychological experience of being targeted by collective violence in the past or present. Specifically, the book addresses questions such as: How are experiences of collective victimization passed down in groups and understood by those who did not experience the violence personally? How do people cope with and make sense of collective victimization of their group? How do the different perceptions of collective victimization feed into positive versus hostile relations with other groups? How does group-based power shape these processes? Who is included in or excluded from the category of “victims,” and what are the psychological consequences of such denial versus acknowledgment? Which individual psychological processes such as needs or personality traits shape people’s responses to collective victimization? What are the ethical challenges of researching collective victimization, especially when these experiences are recent and/or politically contested? This edited volume offers different theoretical perspectives on these questions and shows the importance of examining both individual and structural influences on the psychological experience of collective victimhood—including attention to power structures, history, and other aspects of the social and political context that help explain the diversity in experiences of and responses to collective victimization.

This chapter explores how the ICTY’s creation in the crucible of war shaped Bosnian citizens’ early expectations of Hague justice, and the early engagement of some Bosnians in establishing accountability for the crimes they survived. It revisits the “peace vs. justice” debate that played out among diplomats during the ICTY’s formative years in light of subsequent experience in Bosnia. The final section lays a foundation for later chapters by highlighting key features of the governance structures established in the Dayton Peace Agreement that have diminished the ICTY’s influence on social acknowledgment of wartime atrocities and, more broadly, on interethnic reconciliation.

This chapter looks at how the issues of open space and environmental protection revealed the tension between the structural processes of growth that had produced Route 128 and its suburbs and the ideology of historical and liberal distinctiveness of many of the residents along its ring. The area was considered “unique and special”—an outlook which propelled a genuine concern about the environmental degradation advanced by postwar suburbanization. Yet the localist measures that residents took to protect their communities elevated both a sense of their own distinctiveness and a focus on their own individual standard of living and quality of life, further obscuring an acknowledgment of their role in perpetuating many of the problems of environmental and social inequality.

Abstract:
Reconciliation emphasizes relationships as a crucial ingredient of political transition; this book argues for the importance of such a relational focus in crafting sustainable political transitions. Section I focuses on South Africa’s transition to democracy—how Mandela and De Klerk persuaded skeptical constituencies to commit to political reconciliation, how this proposal gained momentum, and how well the transition resulted in the goal of an inclusive and fair society. In developing a coherent theory of reconciliation to address questions such as these, I explain political reconciliation from three angles and thereby build a concept of reconciliation that corresponds largely with the South African experience. In Section II, these questions lead the discussion beyond South Africa into some of the prominent theoretical approaches to reconciliation in recent times. I develop typologies for three different reconciliation theories: forgiveness, agonism, and social restoration. I conclude in Section III that relationships created through political reconciliation, between leaders as well as between ordinary citizens, are illuminated when understood as an expression of a comprehensive “interdependence” that precedes any formal peace processes between enemies. I argue that linking reconciliation with the acknowledgment of interdependence emphasizes that there is no real alternative to reconciliation if the motivation is the long-term well-being of one’s own community. Without ensuring the conditions in which an enemy can flourish, one’s own community is unlikely to prosper sustainably. This theoretical approach locates the deepest motivation for reconciliation in choosing mutual well-being above the one-sided fight for exclusive survival at the other’s cost.

Abstract:
The chapter discusses the nature of sibling relationships during emerging adulthood and the interplay between developmental processes and sibling relationships. Past unresolved conflicts and continuous rivalry might lead to conflictual and alienated relationships. However, greater maturity and separate residence might induce a kind of rapprochement. Emerging adults’ acknowledgment of their need to maintain family bonds, combined with greater emotional and cognitive maturity, might enable them to reconstruct their siblinghood. Family structure, history, personality, and culture contribute to the intensity and quality of sibling relationships. Considering the challenges young people face in the current societal context, siblings are among the closet kin to whom one can turn in stressful conditions. The authors present narratives of emerging adults demonstrating possible factors that influence the sibling bond, the possible influence of culture and more distal variables (sibling relationships of the respondents’ parents), and suggestions for future research and implications for practice.

Abstract:
A colossal statue, originally built to honor an ancient pharaoh, still stands in Egyptian Thebes. Damaged by an earthquake, and re-identified as the Homeric hero Memnon, it was believed to “speak” regularly at daybreak. By the middle of the first century CE, the colossus had become a popular site for sacred tourism; visitors flocked to hear the miraculous sound, leaving behind over one hundred Greek and Latin inscriptions. These inscriptions are varied and diverse: brief acknowledgments of having heard Memnon’s voice; longer lists by Roman administrators including details of personal accomplishments; and elaborate elegiac poems by both amateurs and professionals. The inscribed names reveal the presence of emperors and soldiers, provincial governors and businessmen, elite women and military wives, and families with children. This study is the first complete assessment of all the inscriptions considered in their social, cultural, and historical context. The Memnon colossus functioned as a powerful site of engagement with the Greek past for a broad segment of society. The inscriptions shed light on attitudes toward sacred tourism, the role of Egypt in the Greco-Roman imagination, and Homer’s cultural legacy in the imperial era. Visitors sought a “close encounter” with this ghost from the Homeric past anchored in the Egyptian present. Their inscriptions idealize Greece by echoing archaic literature at the same time as they reflect their own historical horizon. While Memnon’s voice falls silent by the end of the second century CE, the statue finds new worshippers among Romantic poets in nineteenth-century Europe.

Abstract:
This chapter examines the psychological dimensions and consequences of acknowledgment versus denial of the in-group’s collective victimization. Denial can entail different forms and be literal, interpretative, or implicatory. Likewise, acknowledgment can entail factual acknowledgment, empathic acknowledgment, or even the perpetrator group’s possession of a negative identity. The authors discuss why and how these different forms of acknowledgment and denial matter, the societal means through which acknowledgment versus denial can occur, whose acknowledgment (e.g., perpetrator group vs. third parties) is most relevant in which context, and which events are most important to acknowledge. The chapter reviews findings demonstrating that acknowledgment can improve psychological well-being and intergroup attitudes, while lack of acknowledgment has the opposite effect. The underlying psychological processes that have been studied so far include identity, processes related to the groups’ relationship (e.g., trust), concerns over justice, and affective processes.

Abstract:
The most commonly cited distinct difficulty of social science compared to science in general is that researchers are studying ourselves. But most thinkers have evolved toward a contemporary scientific realism on this point: there are biases, but they can be managed with close attention. Beyond perennial difficulties of self-knowledge, scholars tend to study their own time period, countries, and social groups, introducing additional biases while enabling research on how they affect our questions, methods, and interpretations. This often leads to accusations of “me-search,” especially by underrepresented minorities. But many of the same considerations that drive those critiques and their responses apply to scholars studying their own countries and time periods, and to all of us studying our own species. I argue that the successful history of racial and gender studies shows that progress requires acknowledgment of biases and diversification of viewpoints.

Abstract:
The basic social sciences did not develop independently and later seek application; the practical motivations that animate scholarly chronologies are inescapable. Historical investigations also show plenty of distasteful origins, including the consistent role of American social science in eugenics. That matters not just for how we interpret the past, but also how we address the motivations driving us today. It is easier to see how the racist impulses of the past drove misinterpretations of evidence and poor design—but that epiphany enables a review of how our own motivations (new and perennial) continue to bias research. From finance to information technology, the rising industries of today are built on social science but tempted by triumphalism. Scholars are driven by proving our studies useful—in ways that can both uphold existing institutions and transform them. An acknowledgment of our evolving social, economic, and political goals can help address scholarly biases.

Abstract:
This chapter discusses collective victimization resulting from structural violence, and how the effects of inequality can have similar deleterious consequences for peoples’ ability to meet basic needs. Social class and structural violence have been underexamined so far in the literature on collective victimhood. However, considering collective victim beliefs due to structural violence—which are related to, but distinct from relative deprivation—enriches our understanding of relevant experiences and extends the collective victim beliefs that should be assessed. The authors show with empirical examples from Italy and South Africa that collective victim beliefs about structural violence are distinct from collective victim beliefs about direct violence. They also reveal that collective victim beliefs about structural violence may predict different outcomes, such as the preference for different forms of acknowledgment or the need for empowerment and acceptance.

Abstract:
The formal literature of science has traditionally acted as a “ledger” where debts are acknowledged, previous works are cited, and advances in knowledge are claimed. Recent innovation in electronic publishing, as well as open access requirements from funding agencies in the life sciences, is making it possible to examine this ledger more closely: we can now more definitively ask who is acknowledged, where do citations appear, and what knowledge is claimed within an entire discipline, journal or archive of publications. In this chapter, the authors explore the ledger of bioinformatics, asking how two paratexts—acknowledgment and authorship statements—can be used to understand credit and collaboration within this unique field.

Abstract:
This chapter argues that Iris Marion Young’s approach to unjust social systems and her acknowledgment that each of us is placed differently in those systems provides an important resource for engaging with questions of sexist oppression globally, while being attentive to intersectionality and power relations. After an explication of Young’s theory of political responsibility, criticisms of her theory are addressed. Because Young’s theory of political responsibility draws on feminist concepts such as social location, power, and privilege, it provides a more nuanced way to understand global justice than abstract universal frameworks such as human rights or cosmopolitanism. Extending Young’s theory, the chapter argues that global cross-border alliances can positively promote not only changes in unjust institutions and structures at the transnational level but also foster new local institutions, organizations, and practices that are fairer and more just, such as Fair Trade.

Abstract:
This chapter analyses how autonomy, collaboration, and cooperation are built in a class designed to use digital technologies for a teacher development syllabus. For the purpose of this chapter, data was collected using an empirical-qualitative approach through active observation in participative action, using a questionnaire and Moodle e-portfolio that addressed learning in several virtual tools including Facebook. The final analysis demonstrates that it is possible to understand the autonomous and collaborative teaching and learning process when online tools such as social networks are used, and it is also possible to determine students' participation through authorship. However, such acknowledgment requires that participants be prepared in terms of methodology, including teachers, and have the means to consider accepting new ways of teaching through the cooperation enabled by social networks and virtual learning environments.

Abstract:
The heart of this study is an analysis of teacher–child dialogue in a classroom environment. An authentic dialogue enables children to express their real thoughts and ideas, to present insights, to ask questions, to make comments and to argue about different interpretations. In an effort to help our future teachers improve the quality of their verbal and nonverbal interactions with children as well as emotional and social support, we created a “community of learners”. Mentors and eight students - teachers (Israeli Jews and Arabs) participated in a reciprocal process of learning through experimentation while building new knowledge. Their interactions were examined how the teachers’ verbal and nonverbal responsiveness helped them to open or close conversational spaces for children while enabling them to listen to their voices. The research methodology was a discourse analysis i.e. analyzing the use of language while carrying out an act of communication in a given context. It presents a qualitative analysis of 20 transcripts of students - teacher's conversations with Israeli Jewish and Arab children from ages 4 – 6 years old. The analysis revealed that as teachers provided open conversational spaces with children, authentic dialogue emerged. Both voices were expressed and the child’s world was heard. The significance of thisstudy isto demonstrate the importance that authentic dialogue between teachers and young children has on the learning process as well as teacher’s acknowledgment on how children think and feel. This offers an opportunity for them to learn with and from the children.

Abstract:
The World Health Organization (WHO) states on its website, the one dedicated to the regional office of the Middle East, that there are more than 1000 million disabled people across the globe, which represents approximately 15% of the entire world population i.e. nearly 1 in every 7 people is disabled. It also indicates that the number of the people who suffer from a handicap is on a continuous rise, mainly because of the aging population as well as the exacerbation of chronic illnesses. Moreover, the same organization informs that although this matter is of an extreme seriousness, there is in fact a severe lack of awareness and an unavailability of the necessary scientific information related to this topic. As a matter of fact, there is only a small number of documents that display collections of studies about the policies and responses that the countries have put in place in order to meet the needs of people with disabilities. The data related to disabilities and disabled people points out to an evident lack of concern, on a global scale, when it comes to this particular group that happens to include millions of people all throughout the world. However, and despite the efforts and resources dedicated to accommodate and rehabilitate handicapped people, we still, unfortunately, have a long way to go before we can reach this desired goal. So, does it mean that all these efforts were in vain? In this communication, we will attempt to answer this question through a presentation of the historical evolution of opinions about the meaning of disability and special needs in light of the recent scientific advancements and its impact on the social perception, by shedding the light on the symbolism of the phenomenon of abuse and bullying targeting individuals with special needs. This historical examination shows a clear quantum leap when it comes to the treatment and attitude towards people with special needs, a leap that coincides with the advancement that the scientific research and the pathological classification in the psychology have witnessed in the beginning of the twentieth century. Following these classifications, a number of legal renewals took place, which provided disabled people with several rights that guarantee their protection. Therefore, we can determine that there is indeed a tangible change, albeit the fact that there is definitely and undoubtedly more room for improvement in this regard. Consequently, the denunciations we witness today regarding the abuse and mistreatment of people with disabilities is in fact a product of the collective awareness and the public acknowledgment of the radical shift regarding the conceptual and practical notion of disability. Which in turn, predicts a better and a more prosperous future for a group of people who are in dire need of change.

Abstract:
Experience over the last decade has demonstrated a gradual rise in global temperatures, which coupled with the unpredictable precipitation patterns (rainfall & Snow/ glacier melt are considered as important hydrologic process in the Himalayan basins), are expected to seriously affect the melt characteristics and further increase pressure on available water resources (both quantity and quality). The situation is being exacerbated intensified by the increasing water demands from agriculture, industry and rising population. However, current investigations reveal that there is a lack of a general framework for assessment. The major responsibility of the planning community is to adopt rational planning approach addressing the complexity of the system, yet it is appearing that the models used at various stages are not well developed to keep the same pace. This demands the acknowledgment and a better understanding of the dynamic inter-linkage and interdependence of the complex systems and sub-systems (namely physical, social, economic, ecology, environment, infrastructure, and institutional subsystems) using system dynamics technique. The aim of this paper is to develop a methodology for assessing the climate change and its impact on a region by demonstrating the inadequacy of sectoral and silobased planning approaches to address the complex sustainable development challenges whose interdependencies and inter-linkages transcend individual sectors and administrative borders. Further, this paper attempts to present the review of research done on the use of an integrated approach by using system dynamics technique in the context of evolving development plans. It concludes with extending the knowledge to support climate change adaptation and mitigation decisions to achieve sustainable development at the regional scale.

Abstract:
The world energy consumption was about 567-578 EJ in 2017 which is still increasing – in 2017 by 2.2%, and yearly by 1.7% on average since 2006 (BP, 2018, IEA, 2018). Within this, the consumption of residential segment plays a significant role both in the EU (42%) and in Hungary (35%) as well (Eurostat, 2019). The Hungarian population spend 12.8% (35 EUR/capita/month) of their income on energy sources, and this rate is even higher in case of the pensioners, singles and those who have lower income (KSH, 2019). At the same time, the rate of renewables in the energy mix stagnates for years worldwide (14%), it is a bit higher in the EU and in Hungary than the world average (18-18%, IEA, 2018). Thus, the renewable energy sources can also have serious perspectives in the residential cost reduction, in the sustainable energy consumption and in the local income production. Our aim is to analyse the knowledge of Hungarian consumers on renewable energy sources, their willingness to apply them and the socio-demographic factors on these. To execute the research objectives, a national representative survey with 1000 people was started in April 2019 in Hungary. Based on the results of the questionnaire, it was concluded that the information of the inhabitants is below the average in case of every examined renewable energy source, which is especially true for the biomass-based energy sources. The ease is almost as important as the environment friendliness. An excessively high rate of respondents (34 and 27%) is interested in solar panels and solar collectors, 32% of them seclude themselves from the use of these energy sources. It would be justified to extend these consumer researches in the future for more countries. The authors wish to clarify how the differences in location, income status and residential segment and values influence the spread of these energy sources in the EU and by which tools could support the usage of these in the future. Abstract:
Safe and effective vaccines against COVID-19 are seen as a critical path to ending the pandemic. This synthesis brings together data related to public perceptions about COVID-19 vaccines collected between March 2020 and March 2021 in 22 countries in Africa. It provides an overview of the data (primarily from cross-sectional perception surveys), identifies knowledge and research gaps and presents some limitations of translating the available evidence to inform local operational decisions. The synthesis is intended for those designing and delivering vaccination programmes and COVID-19 risk communication and community engagement (RCCE). 5 large-scale surveys are included with over 12 million respondents in 22 central, eastern, western and southern African countries (note: one major study accounts for more than 10 million participants); data from 14 peer-reviewed questionnaire surveys in 8 countries with n=9,600 participants and 15 social media monitoring, qualitative and community feedback studies. Sample sizes are provided in the first reference for each study and in Table 13 at the end of this document. The data largely predates vaccination campaigns that generally started in the first quarter of 2021. Perceptions will change and further syntheses, that represent the whole continent including North Africa, are planned. This review is part of the Social Science in Humanitarian Action Platform (SSHAP) series on COVID-19 vaccines. It was developed for SSHAP by Anthrologica. It was written by Kevin Bardosh (University of Washington), Tamara Roldan de Jong and Olivia Tulloch (Anthrologica), it was reviewed by colleagues from PERC, LSHTM, IRD, and UNICEF (see acknowledgments) and received coordination support from the RCCE Collective Service.
