Abstract:
SummaryIn this paper we evaluated the basic viewpoints on the mutual relations between contemporary sport and society. Sport is a global social phenomenon which is determined by a variety of different processes, including: the fast development of the industrial society and capital, an increase in leisure time, the development of a liberal democracy and the media. A special feature in these relations is the overall globalization process in today’s world. The basic structure of this paper is made up of two functional parts. In the first part we indicate the dominant theoretical-methodological paradigms in studying sport in social sciences, especially sociology: functionalism, conflict theory in society, interpretive and postmodern theory. In the second part of the paper we analyze the dialectics of contemporary relations between sport and society, where special attention is dedicated to the distribution of social power between sport, capital and the media at the local and global level. At the local level especially, there is a pronounced influence of politics on sport, which is realized through various mechanisms of government power, as well as other political subjects. The most solid bonds between sport and society on both levels are maintained by capital and the media, which know no boundaries. Through ownership and mechanisms of financing sports clubs and associations, athletes and athletic events, an entire network of capitalist relations in sport was created. Sport has become one of the most important factors of television programs, the internet and social networks, which has led to an enormous growth in profit and popularity of sport, but also to great changes in the social relations between people.

Abstract:
There are two discursive frameworks concerning ideology in Australian industrial relations. In many disciplines concerned with aspects of industrial relations, including political science, law and history, it is the traditional political ideologies of the industrial era which take centre stage: liberalism (classical, social and neoliberalism), socialism (Marxism, social democracy and labourism) and conservatism. By contrast, ideological issues in the discipline of employment relations are chiefly addressed in terms of Fox’s three analytical perspectives: unitarism, pluralism and radicalism. The disjunction between these parallel discourses goes largely unnoted in the literature of the relevant disciplines, which all tend to proceed using their own preferred approach without making reference to the other. This article critically explores the relationship between these two discourses and investigates the broader implications that the existence of the two different discursive traditions has for the analysis of industrial relations phenomena in Australia.

Abstract:
The study of tbe employment relation has always held a somewhat ambiguous position within the field of economics. The nature of labour market adjustment processes and unique aspects of the employment relation have posed problems for standard economic theories and have limited the use of formal modelling. Moreover, institutionalist approaches have been a greater challenge to labour economists than in any other area of enquiry within the discipline (Jacoby, 1990). Traditionally, this difference has been manifest in a clear distinction between labour economics and industrial relations as separate fields of study. The artificiality of such a distinction, we argue, poses problems for understanding the phenomena of concern to both disciplines. In this paper we argue that notwithstanding the important insights gained from standard neoclassical models of the labour market, they do not provide an adequate basis for understanding the employment relationship and institutional features of labour markets. Instead, we begin with the assumption adopted by industrial relations scholars that the labour market is different from other economic exchange relationships and use this as a basis for developing a more realistic framework to understand both the social and economic dimensions of the employment relation.

Abstract:
Contemporary society is challenged by the issue of meeting seemingly contradictory needs: achieving economic well-being and ensuring environmental security. On the one hand, rising levels of environmental pollution increasingly threaten systems of life support. On the other hand, economic difficulties cause the growing financial instability. Accordingly, there is a need to move towards a more sustainable environmental and economic system, which requires additional research in this field. The paper focuses on the circular economy as a tool for creating the eco-industrial space to attain sustainable development goals based on the principles of market organisation and long-standing social and economic relations. Methodologically, the research relies on the theory of circular economy and the theory of social space. Research methods include deduction and induction, analysis and synthesis, statistical, comparative, causal, and factor analysis, historical method, which allows taking in account historical, social and cultural peculiarities of the economy, as well as other general theoretical methods. As a result of the research, the authors (1) identify eco-industrial subspace within the social space, which enables clarifying the specifics of the interaction between actors of the social space interested in meeting the needs of both economic development and ecosystem sustainability; (2) develop a system for assessing the circular economy from the viewpoint of eco-industrial interaction. The scientific value of the research findings consists in elaborating on the ecological aspect of industrial regions’ functioning. The circular economy can potentially contribute to the energy efficiency, reduce environmental pollution, and create efficient ways of producing and consuming. The suggested system for assessing the circular economy allows detecting the dynamics of the negative pressure on the ecosystem, which enables the government authorities to purposefully green the industrial development.

Abstract:
This study provides a critical analysis of digital transformation which not only creates new patterns in production, distribution, and consumption but also has implications for power. Various issues have yet to be responded to thoroughly by policymakers to have allowed the new labor relations created in the digital sharing economy to develop quickly and become fragile, especially for laborers. In this article used a qualitative method with the desk study approach, by collecting data and information through examinations, analyzing information data using secondary data. This data is in the form of books, journals, workforce data from BPS, supporting data from related institutions, laws and regulations related to work, reports and literature studies. The results of this study show the emergence of an online transportation based digital platform which has opened new job opportunities, on the other hand, the industrial relation formed are only based on "virtual agreement". The social partnership relations that exist between business/industry players and workers also give rise to new anomalies. This relation obscures the rights and protection of laborers who are unknowingly experiencing exploitation. Digital platform businesses cover the practice of labor exploitation within the rhetorical frame of freedom, flexibility, and partnership. It is the company that is at the peak of power, with control over technology, capital, and access. This study provides input to stakeholders, both government and digital industry, that digital developments should be able to be utilized in influencing social transformation that builds industrial optimism, technology, and empowers society more broadly. State authority and private power need to be integrated to act and be socially responsible. New findings in this study are on aspects digital-based industries cannot be separated from the process of commercialization and the massification of modern capitalism. Lack of regulations that become safety nets makes the labor's position vulnerable and prone to being exploited. The industrial relation of social partnerships, and the absence of regulations governing the work of the informal sector, especially on the digital online transportation platform, creating new anomalies and problems for the labor.

Abstract:
Employee participation is deemed necessary in the name of good governance and corporate social responsibility. For this reason it forms an essential aspect of legal instruments drafted by international public institutions and aimed at multinational enterprises. Despite this, enterprises clearly prefer to take a unilateral approach in the rules they adopt to implement CSR policies, and an individual approach to employee relations, to the detriment of collective labour relations. CSR thus presents two radically different facets: one of which is favourable to transnational social dialogue, while the other presents firms with an opportunity to regain areas of control over their employees at the expense of public freedoms and fundamental rights. The co-existence of these two aspects of CSR confronts public authorities with the following dilemma: either they allow self-regulation to take its course, and risk seeing violations of international labour law and national legislation, or they intervene in order to ensure compliance with existing international instruments.

Abstract:
Globalization is the phenomenon that has made quite a loud statement about itself during the last decades of the 20th century and found its representation in the formation of global economic, financial, cultural, legal, and political areas. Having been the conglomerate of various national states for thousands of years, the world’s social, economic, ecological, cultural space is now transforming into space without borders. The formation of global economic relations, ecological, demographic challenges can’t be solved individually, with local measures and means. In the second half of the 20th century, the world faced global problems and crises (ecological, demographic, reorganization of the economic and political world order), which have become the challenges that can’t be solved with the help of local actions. The global community is forced to raise issues about the ecologization of the entire industrial activity taking into account its consequences at all levels: local, national, and international. That’s what common threats and problems require. The sustainable development paradigm requires both reviewing and changing the “human-nature” system and realizing the necessity of preserving nature for ensuring the existence of the next generations. Sustainable development is to provide the transfer to a new economic type – the green economy, which requires significant investments, particularly in the renewable-energy industry, industrial waste treatment, restoration of soil fertility, preservation of forests.

Abstract:
This paper examines the emergence and the main features of International Framework Agreements (IFAs). IFAs originated in the 1980s and proliferated after 2000. They aim to secure core labour rights across multinational corporations' global supply chains. Global Union Federations, as well as other global (World Company and Works Councils), regional (European Works Councils or European Industry Federations) and national trade union structures, are parties to IFAs. Based on various features of international trade union activity, such as World Company Councils, codes of conduct, the trade and labour rights campaign or international social dialogue, IFAs constitute an important and innovative tool of international industrial relations. An analysis of the substantive and procedural provisions of IFAs leads to an analytical distinction between ‘rights' agreements and ‘bargaining’ agreements. The article assesses the substantive and procedural aspects of the 38 IFAs concluded before June 2005. Finally, key issues such as the scope of agreements, trade union capacity, and global supply chains are discussed in the context of international labour's campaigning, organising and negotiation activities.

Abstract:
The problem of the interaction of nature and society is ontological in nature, and identifies the direction of the existence of humanity as a single planetary system. The actualization of the concept of “world” relative to the historical process falls at the end of the 19th - beginning of the twentieth century due to the leveling of economic and cultural national characteristics, the formation of a system of labour division at the interstate level, the growth of the role of the media in intercontinental communication. In the twentieth century the existence of capitalist and quasi-socialist social and economic systems affects the development of the world community as a process due to competition and interdependence. This influenced on the directions of the implementation of the scientific and technical revolution, namely on the correlation between material overproduction and the spiritual development of a person and humanity as a whole, which in turn led to a crisis in environmental consciousness. An increase in the sphere of activity and knowledge, the formation of a new system of industrial relations, technological pollution of the environment led towards a global environmental crisis at the beginning of the 21st century. Solving the problem of ecological consciousness at the present stage has become not only the task of describing the vectors of scientific researches in the sector of societynature interaction, but is the main basis for both the development and the existence of civilization as a whole.

Abstract:
The paper is devoted to an in-depth study of the capitalist private property of adherents of various currents and schools. It is emphasized that the internal contradictions of private property, which are concentrated in the relations of exploitation, are actively studied by the authors of neoliberalism, neo-institutionalism, and analytical Marxism. The paper shows that most of the works of Western scholars deny the phenomenon of economic exploitation in the post-industrial model of capitalism. The conclusions of domestic scholars about the absence of economic and non-economic coercion to work of hired workers in debilitated, transitive economies are criticized. Based on the theoretical analysis of works devoted to the objective study of new aspects of the relationship between employers and employees, the existence of such non-economic forms of exploitation is proven: psychological, political, axiological, social. The paper considers the main tools of non-economic exploitation, which include euphemisation and speculation in the interests, motives, feelings, consciousness, preferences and even passions of people. The consequences of euphemisation and speculation as tools of non-economic coercion to work, excessive consumption, the introduction of consumerist psychology are revealed. The economic purpose of the most popular socio-political technologies for manipulating the conscious and subconscious behavior of society, groups, individuals in the interests of the ruling classes is clarified. It is shown that these instruments of influence are actively used in various national models of capitalism. The mechanism of total manipulation of behavior, consciousness, psychology of people who are involved in the processes of production, marketing and consumption is considered. It is shown that total manipulation includes a set of non-economic forms of influence on people's decision-making, beneficial to the state, direct employers, financial and commercial structures not only nationally but also globally.

Abstract:
Purpose Comparative opinions widely exist in online reviews as a common way of expressing consumers’ ideas or preferences toward certain products. Such opinion-rich texts are key proxies for detecting product competitiveness. The purpose of this paper is to set up a model for competitiveness analysis by identifying comparative relations from online reviews for restaurants based on both pattern matching and machine learning. Design/methodology/approach The authors define the sub-category of comparative sentences according to Chinese linguistics. Classification rules are set up for each type of comparative relations through class sequence rule. To improve the accuracy of classification, a comparative entity dictionary is then introduced for further identifying comparative sentences. Finally, the authors collect reviews for restaurants from Dianping.com to conduct experiments for testing the proposed model. Findings The experiments show that the proposed method outperforms the baseline methods in terms of precision in identifying comparative sentences. On the basis of such comparison-rich sentences, product features and comparative relations are extracted for sentiment analysis, and sentimental score is assigned to each comparative relation to facilitate competitiveness analysis. Research limitations/implications Only the explicit comparative relations are discussed, neglecting the implicit ones. Besides that, the study is grounded in the assumption that all features are homogeneous. In some cases, however, the weights to different aspects are not of the same importance to market. Practical implications On the basis of comparative relation mining, product features and comparative opinions are extracted for competitiveness analysis, which is of interest to businesses for finding weakness or strength of products, as well as to consumers for making better purchase decisions. Social implications Comparative relation mining could be possibly applied in social media for identifying relations among users or products, and ranking users or products, as well as helping companies target and track competitors to enhance competitiveness. Originality/value The authors propose a research framework for restaurant competitiveness analysis by mining comparative relations from online consumer reviews. The results would be able to differentiate one restaurant from another in some aspects of interest to consumers, and reveal the changes in these differences over time.

Abstract:
Addressing the Social Determinants of Health is critical if we truly want to achieve health equity. The World Health Organization’s Commission on the Social Determinants of Health (2008) recognized the need to broaden the understanding of these determinants among the general public to facilitate change in communities and improve the overall health status. Using the data from the Tunisian Health Examination Survey (2016), this quantitative preliminary study explored the state of social inequity in health among the Tunisian population using a quantitative statistical analysis that shed light on the relations between the SDHs (Age – gender – SES – Geographical location – Area of residence – and Educational attainment) and the self-rated health status. This preliminary study explored the current state of health equity in Tunisia through exploring the hidden patterns of social identity formation and power relation inside society. This preliminary study also pointed out certain aspects of health inequity in Tunisia as well as the social factors and determinants contributing to the status-quo. The findings of this preliminary study could be the basis of an ambitious academic work that will explore the intersection between SDHs and their impact on health outcomes in Tunisia that will be an asset in the process of implementing health equity policies in the future.

The prerequisites and consequences of reformed relations between the state and society under the influence of the 4th industrial revolution and the requirements of sustainable development are reviewed in this article. The researchers offer to use the perception of governmental actions by society as a criterion to determine the role of the state in the conditions of digitalization. This allows identifying the features of various state aspects (monopolist, assistant and illusion). The authors identify the best tool which has acquired new social value in Ukraine, the dialogue. Having studied the features of public organizations, the authors structured the primary challenges and summarized the results (both positive and negative) of their activities in the context of digitalization. This paper explores academic-industry relations from the perspective of research managers in the pharmaceutical industry. While current policy discourse on academic-industry relations has emphasized the potential of creating stronger alignment between academic research and industrial R&D, scholars have also drawn attention to the fundamental misalignment of the two domains and the inherently problematic aspects of over-close ties. In this paper, we address the articulation of alignment and ‘unalignment’ in academic-industry relations and explore how industrial participants reflect on their relationship with academic research. The paper draws on a longitudinal study of academic-industry collaboration in a Danish pharmaceutical company, carried out from 2009 to 2011. Focusing on one specific case of collaboration, we show that these industry research managers make sense of academic-industry relations by both aligning and unaligning themselves with academic research. Indeed, at critical stages, and rather than simply serving as an impediment, the process of aligning and unaligning can be an important driver to collaboration. Generally, we propose that focusing on participants’ aligning and unaligning stances and efforts holds the promise of developing more nuanced, empirically-based accounts of academic-industry relations.

Abstract:
He was intended to understand the process of transforming social and labor relations in the context of the implementation of pension reform in Russia, taking into account the axiological aspects, in particular "digital axiology". Its objective is to identify the impact of digitization on changes in industrial relations in the context of pension reform. The theoretical and methodological basis of research is based on an interdisciplinary system approach and generational value theory. An economic analysis is performed, along with the grouping of empirical data and digitization rates are presented. A survey of more than 6,000 people was also conducted, the theme of which was to assess the impact of the Russian Federation's pension reform on social and labor relations, economic growth and the quality of life of the population. The article examines cardinal changes in the social and employment relationships of people of pre-retirement age in the context of digitization. It is concluded that the main problems of the development and formation of digital axiology among the pre-retired demand a set of political transformations.

This article considers the transformation of the world of work and its interrelationship with changes in the social regulation of work and social security. The implications of the contradiction between a greater emphasis on autonomy and skills at work and the exclusionary effects of greater selectivity in recruitment are discussed. It is argued that we are witnessing a move to a ‘third age’ of work and social protection, in which qualitative and participatory aspects come to the fore, alongside aspects of the ‘social question’ more typical of earlier ‘ages’ — alleviating poverty and reducing unemployment. In conclusion the article considers the role of the European Union in addressing the resulting challenges.

Abstract:
There are many factors which contribute to the development of an economy. Some of them are geographical location, availability of natural resources, and availability of skilled workforce. Economic growth and social development are also affected by the legal procedures and mechanisms through which norms are enforced and interpreted by the court system and alternative dispute resolution mechanism. This paper intends to bring into light the legal aspects of the South Asian Tigers, which have aided the development of these countries. The four countries that have been studied are Malaysia, Indonesia, South Korea and Singapore. The reason for choosing these countries is that they have witnessed immense development in the near past and hence make an interesting subject for study. The amount of development these countries have witnessed can be made out from their human developmental figures over the past few decades. The emphasis is placed on the industrial relations aspect and hence the labour laws of these countries have been referred to. The legal provisions relating to industrial relations from these four countries have been analyzed and commonalities, which contributed to development, have been identified.

Naval dockyards have been largely neglected by labour historians, a surprising omission given their importance as industrial workplaces with a distinct culture of labour and labour relations. This article considers labour politics in Karlskrona dockyard, Sweden, in the light of a growing body of research on work and labour relations in the British and other European dockyards. Evidence from Karlskrona suggests that, rather than being repressed by military discipline or bought off by generous state benefits, the dockyard workforce drew on aspects of its unique relationship with the national state to improve working conditions. Particular attention is given to the role of the dockyard trade union in creating a sense of workforce identity as state employees. This is in contrast to the British dockyards where unionism was founded on the rigid division of labour in the shipbuilding industry.

Abstract:
The concept of social cohesion has received much attention in recent academic research as well as in policy documents. The aim of this paper is to point out the shortcomings of current indicators for social cohesion and the advantages of including time allocation data in the evaluation and measurement of social cohesion. Such data should include, for example, time spent on household work and family care or time spent on voluntary and civic activities. The paper is organised as follows: first, the Eurostat and OECD social cohesion indicators are discussed in relation to concepts of social cohesion. In section two, some aspects of social cohesion are associated with time allocated to various activities and it is argued that time use data, in some cases, provide a more accurate measure of social cohesion. In section three, empirical results are presented for European countries using indicators that illustrate social cohesion, and time use data are combined with current social cohesion indicators. Finally, conclusions are presented.

Abstract:
Industrial symbiosis has proven to be an important tool for improving business sustainability with numerous environmental, economic, and social benefits. The literature on this subject has been provided with countless case studies of the application of this practice in different geographical locations. However, studies concerning Portugal in this area are still scarce. Thus, this article aims to map and analyze the existing cases of industrial symbiosis in Portugal, as well as the current state and the legislative context regarding this practice. It also aims to analyze the main barriers to the growth of synergy relations and outline new paths for the development of industrial symbiosis in Portugal. From the analysis to the case studies, it was possible to conclude that most industrial symbiosis networks have few actors, and networks with two and three are common. However, owing to strategic plans, the type of existing economic activities, and the waste generated, there is much potential for industrial symbiosis networks to be established and to contribute to emission reductions, more efficient use of resources, and reduced external dependence. However, in order to increase industrial symbiosis, concerted action must be taken at various levels to encourage companies to develop synergy relations. Changing the legislative framework, making funds available, the role of local governments, the existence of a facilitator, and the use of some industries as anchor tenants are some of the aspects that can contribute to the increase of industrial symbiosis in Portugal.

Abstract:
In a climate of fiscal austerity, Australia’s neo-liberal government is continuing to fund and implement an expensive National Disability Insurance Scheme (NDIS). This article presents a demographic, funding and policy context for the introduction of the NDIS. Its success, we argue, must be situated in the context of development of a post-industrial workforce, and owes a lot to its embrace of social investment, marketisation of welfare services, and cash for care. We then look at two tensions unfolding during the scheme’s implementation: increasing demand for care work alongside a shortage of care workers, and the market-driven reform of the Australian vocational education and training system. The changes to vocational education, we conclude, have produced more problems than they solved. Since they anticipate key aspects of the NDIS, they raise questions about the intent and future of Australia’s National Disability Insurance Scheme.

Abstract:
The article presents the different reasons why social dialogue is important in the current EU enlargement process. First because of developments of social dialogue at the Community level, described in the first section, from its establishment in the Treaty of Rome, to Delors' Val Duchesse initiative in the mid-1980s to the new rights for the social partners under the Amsterdam treaty and the new 'macroeconomic dialogue'initiated at the Cologne Economic Summit in 1999. Second, because social dialogue is clearly part of the current legal and institutional acquis, implying important responsibilities for the social partners. The third section discusses the implications for the social partners in the candidate countries. In particular they are called upon to play a more active role in their respective country's accession negotiations, to support implementation of the acquis 'on the ground', and to prepare themselves for participation in European social dialogue. Currently, collective bargaining institutions at both enterprise and supra-enterprise level remain underdeveloped in the CEECs, placing a question mark over implementation of some aspects of the acquis. Social dialogue is an important part of the acquis communautaire, and substantial efforts on the part of governments and the social partners in the candidate countries will be required prior to accession.

Abstract:
Most of industrial heritage assets need new activities to ensure their survival. In addition, the collection of assets is very broad, many of their locations have now become central and are targets for speculation, and the nature of these sites displays great specialization. Consequently, processes for reusing these assets are necessary to conserve them, but they risk destroying features whose value has been inadequately identified. This work faces this multicriteria problem by adapting the Analytic Hierarchy Process (AHP) to create two independent criteria structures, one for heritage valuation and another for analyzing the spatial compatibility with new uses, and then connecting them considering the relations between criteria of both structures and the relevance of the heritage aspects involved. All this to select those activities that cause minimal harm to the heritage value to be conserved. This work analyses three case studies to evaluate the performance of a tool based on an adaptation of AHP. The results are exposed and some application guidelines are provided, since doubts in the way to applying and interpreting the criteria are in practice a common problem of this type of approaches and that is rarely addressed. Thus, this work shows the potential of the proposed tool as a resource for sustainable urban development strategies.

The objective of the article is to show specific features and the possibilities of mediation procedure in the sphere of employment relations as a new form of conflict management. The effective conflicts solution is one of the main items of managerial decisions, mechanisms of conflicts management in the sphere of employment relations. In contemporary conditions the greatest importance belongs to professional conflicts solution with the help of mediation procedure. Mediation is the combination of certain goal-oriented managers’ types of actions. Each of them is observed in the article. There is an example of industrial dispute which is defined by different specific interests of employees and personal management staff. These differences cover almost all aspects of social-working relations in the organization. At the same time an employer can be interested in prevention of conflict increasing. This is an efficient, rational base for mediation procedures in the frames of employee-employer disputes.

Abstract:
Precarious employment is becoming more and more widespread in the world and inRussia. It is the destruction of the traditional standard model of employment, labour and social rights of workers to secure and sustainable employment. This is one of the problematic areas of modern social relations, exacerbated by the industrial revolution 4.0, globalization of global relations in all areas and their use in the interests of national and world capital. In the article, the author characterizes the essence of precarious employment and presents the results of a sociological study of precarious employment in a representative group. It allowed expanding the sociological tools of its study and the use of sociological indicators to identify groups of workers in relation to precarious employment. The author also studied the parameters of the specified representative group, clarified the indicators of precarious employment and their quantitative values that identify certain aspects. As a result, the author identified four profiles of contemporary employment inRussia, characterized by increasing signs of precarious employment and gave their comparative characteristics. Further, the author described the differences in socio-demographic, socio-labour and economic characteristics of workers belonging to different profiles of employment. On this basis, the author justified the need to transform labour, civil and other legislation, which would allow more fully using the advantages of standard and flexible employment for employees of various segments of the Russian labour market, ensuring, at the same time, compliance with their labour and social rights.

Abstract:
Even though the availability of skilled labour and technological know-how is critical to the sustainability of small and medium-sized enterprises (SMEs), the relationships between industry and the vocational education system have received little attention in the recent literature regarding social aspects of innovation. The objective of this paper is to analyse the intensity of relationships between industrial SMEs and vocational education and training (VET) centres from the firms’ perspective. The study is based on a survey carried out with a sample of 1388 Spanish industrial SMEs with vocational education graduates among their employees. Multivariate hierarchical segmentation techniques were used in order to identify the main explanatory variables. As a result, we obtained a typology (“tree”) of eight organizational profiles associated to different intensity levels (from higher to lower) of relationships between firms and schools. The results show that most industrial SMEs maintain relations with vocational education centres, reflecting the importance of the latter for the companies. The organisational type having the highest level of relations refers to SMEs with experience in external cooperation (cooperation with other actors in innovation projects) which have vocational education employees (graduates) in technical areas and which are bigger in size. Likewise, the results suggest that fruitful collaboration between SMEs and vocational education centres depends on the existence of an established culture of innovation among the smaller firms. This work sheds light on economic and social sustainability. Its results and discussion are linked to the objectives of United Nations sustainable development goals and the recent communication from the European Commission to the European Parliament entitled “European skills agenda for sustainable competitiveness, social fairness, and resilience”.

Abstract:
Purpose Temporary agency work (TAW) has increased enormously in recent decades. Most temporary agency workers are pushed involuntarily into this work arrangement and prefer permanent work arrangements. Therefore, the motive to find a permanent job through TAW is predominant for the majority of temporary agency workers. However, little is known about what helps in obtaining a permanent job in a client organization. The purpose of this paper is to examine the role of social skills by simultaneously considering the human capital aspects and motivational background of the individuals for transition success. Design/methodology/approach The paper is based on a questionnaire study of 151 temporary agency workers with two measurement points. The questionnaires were first administered at the very beginning of their work as a temp and again five months later. Findings The findings show that the social skills of temporary agency workers in contrast to various aspects of human capital and motives for temping had a significant impact on becoming a permanent worker in a client organization. Research limitations/implications The generalizability of the finding that social skills help temporary agency workers to find a permanent job in a client organization may be restricted due to the particularities of the work setting in the clerical sector. The incidences as well as the determinants of transition success may depend on the industry sector because of the respective assignment characteristics as well as the clients’ reasons of using temporary agency workers. Future research should investigate more thoroughly the role of assignment characteristics for the experiences of the workers. Practical implications Social skills seem to play a crucial role for transition success in TAW. Qualification measures should therefore include the training of interpersonal behavior. It would be desirable when the involved organizations would assume responsibility in this respect. Furthermore, policy makers should provide adequate training formats since they promote TAW as a stepping stone opportunity for unemployed people. Originality/value This paper suggests that career mobility in the context of flexible work arrangements may be driven by more informal processes of social integration into the existing permanent team. While TAW is seen as a temporary solution in Germany, this study focuses on the individual determinants of transition success of temporary agency workers that is still rare in studies on the topic.

Abstract:
Introduction. The current historical period is characterized by significant transformations in all spheres of life activity. The reasons for the changes are the development of information technologies and globalization processes. In the information (post-industrial) society, transformations are associated with the introduction of the principles of flexibility in job placement and labor organization. The transition to flexible forms of employment appears as a risk factor for the deterioration of working conditions and the reduction of workers’ security. “Social pollution” of the production environment is spreading. These include management methods that harm the well-being of workers. The aim of the study is the evaluation of the influence of flexibilities of employment and labor relations on the deterioration of working conditions as a risk factor for the well-being of workers.Material and methods. The study object in the article is flexibility as a socio-psychological and organizational-economic phenomenon. A comparative analysis of the views of various authors and their theoretical generalization.Results. A modern understanding of the information society as a society of network structures based on innovation and decentralization, as well as employment on adaptability to market conditions is presented. The introduction of the flexibility of employment means a departure from the standard model of labor relations. The negative consequences of labor flexibility for workers are given: instability, compulsion, unsteadiness, and lack of guarantees. Employment unsteadiness occurs both in the informal and formal sectors of the economy. The statistics cited indicate a trend towards an increase in the proportion of workers included in unsustainable and precarious employment. The influence of “social pollution” of the intra-organizational environment in the form of adverse management decisions introducing instability and unreliability in working conditions is considered. Their consequence is a violation of the social and psychological well-being and somatic health of workers. Conclusion. The more employment differs from the standard, the higher its instability, and lack of guarantees for the worker, the higher the risks of deterioration of working conditions, health, and job loss. There is a connection between the instability of employment, psychological well-being, and health.

Abstract:
The spatial planning policies had become the mediators for political, social, economic, and environmental relations. This study aims to describe the implementation of public policy from the perspective of Dye theory about a spatial planning for industries in Semarang Regency. The primary data used in this study was from nine informants of nine companies which applied for a location permission license for industrial activities. The secondary data was from the Semarang Public Works Office. The study shows that there were nine investment activity plans for industries in Semarang Regency. Initially, the nine applications were not granted permission from the relevant agencies because they were not in accordance with the provisions of spatial planning. However, after being considered by the government in terms of public policy, the nine companies obtained location permission licenses to utilize the land under certain conditions. Thus, the public policy is essentially designed by the government to guarantee and fulfill the needs of the community to conduct investment activities such as industry. The spatial planning policies had become the mediators for political, social, economic, and environmental relations. Thus, harmonization of political, social, economic and environmental aspects would create sustainable development.

Abstract:
Although France, unlike the English-speaking countries, came late to the capital market economy, the phenomenon of financialisation of companies - or ‘private equity’ - has now gained considerable ground. Yet the fact that the procedures and choices governing its operation are confined within the managerial sphere makes it difficult to gain any clear idea of how the various dimensions of labour, and in particular the social dialogue, are affected by this new business model. The article sets out to gain deeper insight into this dialectic through a series of semi-directive interviews of worker representatives intended better to understand aspects that are difficult to quantify. Analysis of the interview findings reveals a shared awareness of changes in practices and in the underlying business model that determines corporate operations; the resulting changes in the rules of the game governing interaction between the two sides of industry prompt a serious reconsideration of the methods and purposes of trade union action.

Abstract:
The study explored both the development policy of regional industry and the aerotropolis as an empirical object. In planning an aerotropolis, governments should account for both regional and industrial characteristics to establish appropriate policies for promoting industrial development that maximizes the benefits of invested resources. In this study, a composite multicriteria decision-making method was used to filter the optimal aerotropolis industry evaluation index through the fuzzy Delphi method. Subsequently, the decision-making trial and evaluation laboratory–based analytic network process was used to obtain the influence relations and weights between the indexes to establish an optimal industry plan. Satisfaction evaluation was then used to calculate the performance values of the programs and discover the optimal industries for the city to provide the government with a policy reference. This study found that the technical environment, product and industry networks, and basic environment were the most important aspects of the Taoyuan Aerotropolis. Aviation linkage and logistics services had the highest performance among industries, identifying them as the most suitable supplementary developments to the aviation industry.

Over the past decade, Europe has stumbled from crisis to crisis, shaking the confidence of observers in the continent’s capacity to maintain the egalitarian societies and socially embedded markets that have long informed arguments for social democratic reforms in the United States. As tensions in democratic capitalism have intensified, many aspects of Europe’s established political economic order have come under pressure. This review essay explores key causal processes behind the continent’s predicament. It does so to illustrate challenges and opportunities for organized labor in Europe, and to call on social scientists to reengage with the class politics of capitalism.

Abstract:
Purpose – Social media platforms established social relationship between the consumer and the brand community. The purpose of this paper is to propose a model to understand how dual-identification impact on the community citizenship behavior (CCB). Specifically, the authors propose perceived community-brand similarity (PCBS) influence CCB via dual-identification and brand passion (BP). Design/methodology/approach – The research sample consists of 323 members who have used Apple product and used Apple fan page for more than one year, and structural equation modeling was used to test the research hypotheses. Findings – The results indicated that PCBS directly influenced brand identification (BI) and community identification (CI), respectively. BI directly influenced CI. CI directly influenced BP, but BI not directly influenced BP. In the mediation effects, both the dual-identification factors and BP play important mediating roles. Practical implications – From a managerial standpoint, this research provides implications for social network sites management. Originality/value – This research fills a void in the BI and CI are coexisting but distinct aspects of virtual communities. In addition, the mediating role of dual-identification factors and BP in the online community consumer-brand relationship has not been fully investigated.

The purpose of the article is to formulate theoretical and methodological foundations of the strategy of economic development of the state. Methods. The methods of system analysis and synthesis, abstract-logical, monographic, generalization, were used in the study. Results. The study of strategy as a scientific category is conducted. Theoretical, methodological and practical approaches to the study of strategy as a social phenomenon are analyzed. The development of fundamental scientific approaches to the interpretation of the concept of strategy is shown. The key tasks of the strategy are considered in determining the limits of adaptation to external factors, and the creation of a concept that is sufficiently stable and flexible to achieve the set goals, regardless of the influence of external forces. The approaches to the strategy are described as a state document that defines the targets for the future, and outlines the main directions of ensuring the vital interests of the country. Abstract:
This article deals with the political discourse on corporate social responsibility in Austria and presents two organisations that represent social partner organisations and NGOs promoting CSR, although they focus on different topics and elements of CSR. Standardisation, transparency and credibility are important aspects in a broad range of CSR initiatives. Codes of corporate governance are cited as an example of the problems faced when introducing voluntary instruments in the CSR context. Although many different organisations are participating in the CSR debate and have launched various initiatives, companies have not implemented holistic CSR measures aiming at sustainable development to a significant degree.

Vielle, Pascale, and Jean-Michel Bonvin. "Putting security at the heart of the European social pact – proposals to make flexicurity more balanced." Transfer: European Review of Labour and Research 14, no. 3 (January 1, 2008): 419–33. http://dx.doi.org/10.1177/102425890801400306.

Abstract:
The concept of flexicurity opens up new avenues for rethinking our approach to social integration and security for Europe's citizens. In the current European debate, however, flexicurity is out of balance on two levels: it leans too far towards flexibility at the expense of security, and it is too focused on the labour market (and increasing employment rates) at the expense of other aspects of quality of life. This article suggests ways to rebalance flexicurity, giving more substance to ‘security’. In particular it proposes that, in addition to the mutualisation typically found in conventional social security strategies, services of general interest and time and space policies should also be developed. It recommends the negotiation of a new social pact in which all partners (not just the social partners) should have their say. The conclusion highlights the particular role of the EU in promoting harmonising measures and establishing new instruments for security and different ways of approaching public funding and investment.
