Abstract:
Considering that the defining element of contemporary society is money, capitalist logic sees industrialization as an essential element. Industrialization transforms various aspects of territoriality, and it is part of the process of converting rural to urban environments. Urbanization is a global phenomenon that occurs spatially in culture, behavior, and lifestyle, but there are sensible distinctions in how it proceeds in the global north and the global south. Industrialization in developing countries took place unevenly and did not translate entirely into improved economic standards. In Brazil's case, the territorial occupation model was based on domination, ignoring environmental aspects, similarly to what happens in metropolises, in which management is often guided by the logic of neoliberal globalization, ignoring local realities. Another characteristic is that the processes of industrialization and urbanization occurred simultaneously. Such a perspective, focused on industrialization to foster urbanization, weakens other actors. The importation of transnational models effectively converts traditional production models into forms appropriate to market capitalism. However, the imposition of a hegemonic logic of domination comes with several social and environmental costs.

Abstract:
The era of globalization has impacted religious organizations whose members are village youths working in the industry in the Jepara region. This study aims to determine the impact of industrialization and the factors that influence the interest of Geneng village in joining religious organizations. This study uses a descriptive approach. The research subjects were the chairperson, treasurer, secretary, members, trainers, and youth as informants. Data collection techniques using observation, interviews, documentation. The data validity technique uses source triangulation. Data analysis techniques collect, reduce, present, and draw conclusions. The results showed that Geneng village youth's interest in religious organizations was still low due to a lack of publications, employment, youth environment, and education. Meanwhile, regarding social impacts, the intensity of activity and members' interest decreased. At the same time, the economic aspect of members who are already working in the industry provides material assistance during the activity. This study concludes that the interest of Geneng village youth is still low due to a lack of publications, employment, environmental, youth associations, and educational factors. Meanwhile, industrialization impacts religious organizations in social and economic aspects. The researchers suggest that publications are maximized again, and members can manage their time well.

Economic growth is the main goal of the global economy. However, increasing economic growth often results in increased CO2 emissions and encourages environmental degradation. This study analyzes the impact of industrialization, consumption of fossil energy, economic growth, and population activities on CO2 emissions in upland water catchment areas. Data analysis using panel data regression, in a span of 20 years. The results of the study show that economic factors, namely industrialization and consumption of fossil energy, are the main determinants of increasing CO2 emissions. Meanwhile, social aspects such as education, waste generation, and population have no effect on CO2 emissions.

Abstract:
The objective of this article is to present one of the lineages of human resource management in Poland—industrial sociology. It was within the framework of this subdiscipline that research devoted to the social aspects of industrialization was carried out in the nineteen–sixties and seventies. Studies conducted within the circle of the Cracovian sociologist, Kazimierz Dobrowolski, looked at the industrial centers of Lesser Poland. The primary research question involves the process of the shaping of industrial company personnel in connection with the migration of rural population to industrial centers. The research demonstrated the social and cultural conditions behind this process, not only the impact of the culture of rural communities on shaping work culture in companies, but also the influence of industrial work experience on the life and cultural aspirations of rural communities.

Abstract:
AbstractScholars from various disciplines argue that the 1970s formed a historical watershed. Several arguments rely on the notion of a significant change in the modes of production, labour and consumption – a change usually coined as de-industrialization, which had severe economic, social and cultural repercussions on numerous cities. These repercussions are frequently phrased in semantics of crisis. The article will present an exemplary case that sits uneasily with this master narrative. Wilhelmshaven, a medium-sized city in north-west Germany, witnessed significant changes in the 1970s, too – but not away from, but towards industrialization, and throughout the industrializing phase, diagnoses of crisis played a major role in stabilizing the process. Analysing Wilhelmshaven's industrialization, which took place between the late 1960s and the mid-1980s, will shed light on two aspects: first, the effects industrialization had on the city's socio-economic structure; secondly, the effects different crises and their diagnosis had on the process. In doing so, the article will link perspectives from urban history with theoretical concepts of crisis and, thus, attempt to provoke a closer look at cities of the 1970s.

Abstract:
In this thesis, I argue the case for putting the industrial revolution back into literary accounts of the Romantic period. Writers of fiction played an important part in disseminating knowledge about the changes to technology and society, as well as helping to form the image of the newest social class: that of the industrial workers. Literature aspired to educate and integrate this class, as well as to influence the parallel process of educating the upper classes about the advent of the new manufacturing order. I have taken as the governing metaphor for industrialization that of 'white slavery', drawing the contrast to the contemporary movement to abolish black slavery. To illustrate the thesis, I have chosen six writers: three Romantic poets - Coleridge, Southey and Wordsworth - and three women educationalists - Hannah More, Maria Edgeworth and Harriet Martineau, each of whom represents a significant philosophical approach to a manufacturing society and who each made an important contribution to imaginative literature. Whilst the Romantic poets analysed industrialization as a divisive and demoralizing phenomenon and looked to the past for solutions, the educationalists responded to the challenge presented by the factory system by suggesting new visions of social relationships which bound moral and economic behaviour together. The thesis aspires to restore the voices of neglected women writers in the industrial debate with the aim of promoting a deeper understanding of the dynamics of the Romantic period and a fuller comprehension of its creative expression.

Liu, Xiaozhu. "Paradoxical development: China's early industrialization in the late nineteenth century." Diss., The University of Arizona, 1995. http://hdl.handle.net/10150/187398.

Full text
Abstract:
This dissertation studies China's first industrializing efforts to transform its navigation, cotton textiles and banking in the late nineteenth century, and analyzes the paradoxical roles of the state and culture in achieving development. It argues that successful late development is dependent on state policies that emphasize state-society connectedness and tradition-modernity continuity. In late Qing China, the state-midwifed industrial projects faced both intensive competition from foreign firms and resistance from domestic vested interests. Because key resource factors such as capital, production technology, and management skill were scarce and distributed unevenly across multiple sectors, the state officials had to redirect the resource flows in order to found new industries. The state had to perform an essential function of creative destruction, without which social groups in non-state sectors would be less likely to embrace changes, but the ultimate success of new industries depended on a societal consolidation that redefined the state-society relationship. This study also shows that culture was a double-edged sword with great potential for lubricating industrial transformation. The promoters of development created myths, symbols and beliefs to legitimize their industrializing efforts. They made a constant effort to reinterpret tradition in order to find compatibility between the foreign and domestic systems. The distinctive sectoral paths taken by navigation, cotton textiles and banking represented different patterns of state-society cooperation for achieving development. Each sector had distinct production technologies and product structure, and was endowed with distinct sectoral institutions and other legacies. These endowments constrained choices of every new industry, but it was a combination of structural factors and industry's responsive strategies that explained why some enterprises succeeded while others failed. A project was more likely to succeed if there was greater state-society connectedness and cultural compatibility. Steam navigation was the most successful among the three, followed by cotton textiles. Banking was the least successful.

Abstract:
This thesis explores how power relations are reflected on society in the act of surveillance basedon Michel Foucault’s discourse in the light that events that happen in the arrangement of certaintime and place reveal the context in situation in history and things happen as a consequence ofsuch situational events even at the time when technology advances at a remarkable pace andstate-of-the-art technologies do not rest to surprise us.In that regard, I start by presenting motivation and historical background of surveillance. Then Idescribe current surveillance technology and state in three aspect; biometrics which is adominating off-line surveillance methodology, internet which is a dominating on-line surveillanceframeset, and the centralization of big data for the utilization of these all. Then I analyze socialcondition for surveillance by investigating current and recent history, the impact ofscience/technology on society, and how the mindset and culture of contemporary times hasformed itself. In the conclusion and discussion, I analyze what will happen if such trend ofmachine culture continues and present suggestion about what can be done.

Ebireri, John Efe. "Bank market structure and industrialization : evidence from developing countries." Thesis, University of Glasgow, 2014. http://theses.gla.ac.uk/5297/.

Full text
Abstract:
This thesis examines how bank market structure affects industry performance in developing countries. A high degree of bank concentration would be associated with tight constraints and high borrowing costs, while it has also been argued that, it would be easier for firms to access credit if the banking system is concentrated. Foreign banks are seen to promote financial development and spur economic growth; while critics suggest that a larger foreign bank presence in developing countries is associated with less credit to the private sector. Also, government ownership of banks is responsible lower economic and slow financial development, while others argue that government banks promote long-run growth. The implications of bank market structure on the real economy are examined using cross-country, cross-industry panel data from developing countries, along with a variety of econometric techniques, and standard measures of industry performance. The research aims to ascertain whether bank market structure in developing countries influences financing for firms differently as a result of industry-specific characteristics. It also examines if institutional characteristics helps in explaining industrial performance in the short-run. As a follow-up to one of the findings, the research examines if banks would prefer to fund innovative firms in a liberalized environment by exploring the impact of financial development on the export structure. The main empirical findings are as follows: first, it may not be possible to identify robust or consistent findings concerning the effects of good institutions; secondly, it might not necessarily be the case that financial development specifically benefits firms based on specific industry characteristics; and finally, the research finds that banking sector development reduces export sophistication and increases export concentration. This may suggest that banking sector development enforces specialization according to existing comparative advantage.

White, Jack A. "Marxian and Weberian theory as explanations of the effects of industrialization on town development: A case study; Denison, Texas." Thesis, University of North Texas, 2002. https://digital.library.unt.edu/ark:/67531/metadc3108/.

Full text
Abstract:
While a great deal of historical literature has concentrated on the effects of industrialization on town development, most of the accounts relate to the introduction of industrialization into an established town. This study attempts to analyze, in sociological terms, the effects of industrialization (in this case, the emergence of the railroad) on the social structure of Denison, Texas which was created by industrialization. It is an attempt to combine Marxian and Weberian theory to produce a multi-dimensional theory that can explain town development without the usual economic bias as evident in most contemporary theory. This study proceeds on the assumption that the social order of a newly formed community is not based solely on economic factors. While economic considerations were important for the town of the study, social stability of the town was maintained by other “non-economic” elements. The purpose of the study is to construct a composite theory that can be utilized to analyze town development. The thrust is not the creation of new theory, rather it attempts to combine existing “classical” theories to present a balanced and, to an extent, “objective” explanation of community development. Adding the social aspects of Weber's theory to Marx's theory results in a theory that limits the economic bias associated with pure Marxian theory.

Abstract:
In Brazil, the process of industrialization of society has been accompanied by an exponential growth of the resident population in urban centers. Therefore, the need to move people and goods within cities also increases, which can be defined as mobility in the urban context. This issue has fostered many studies that show the importance of developing actions that adequately address the issue of urban mobility, seeking to improve the quality of life in the city. Within this context, this research aims to develop an application for smartphones to provide accurate information about bus schedules for public transport in the city of Alagoinhas - BA - Brazil and consequently provide improvements in user experience. According to the data collected, MobiBus was able to alleviate the inconvenience caused by a long waiting time at the bus stop and made users feel more secure.
