Abstract:
Cyber-physical-social computing system integrates the interactions between cyber, physical, and social spaces by fusing information from these spaces. The result of this fusion can be used to drive many applications in areas such as intelligent transportation, smart cities, and healthcare. Situation Awareness was initially used in military services to provide knowledge of what is happening in a combat zone but has been used in many other areas such as disaster mitigation. Various applications have been developed to provide situation awareness using either IoT sensors or social media information spaces and, more recently, using both IoT sensors and social media information spaces. The information from these spaces is heterogeneous and, at their intersection, is sparse. In this paper, we propose a highly scalable, novel Cyber-physical-social Awareness (CPSA) platform that provides situation awareness by using and intersecting information from both IoT sensors and social media. By combining and fusing information from both social media and IoT sensors, the CPSA platform provides more comprehensive and accurate situation awareness than any other existing solutions that rely only on data from social media and IoT sensors. The CPSA platform achieves that by semantically describing and integrating the information extracted from sensors and social media spaces and intersects this information for enriching situation awareness. The CPSA platform uses user-provided situation models to refine and intersect cyber, physical, and social information. The CPSA platform analyses social media and IoT data using pretrained machine learning models deployed in the cloud, and provides coordination between information sources and fault tolerance. The paper describes the implementation and evaluation of the CPSA platform. The evaluation of the CPSA platform is measured in terms of capabilities such as the ability to semantically describe and integrate heterogenous information, fault tolerance, and time constraints such as processing time and throughput when performing real-world experiments. The evaluation shows that the CPSA platform can reliably process and intersect with large volumes of IoT sensor and social media data to provide enhanced situation awareness.

Abstract:
AbstractThe problem of demonstrating that animals are consciously aware of their environment or themselves in a similar manner to ourselves has proved to be a relatively intractable one since we have mainly been constrained to rely upon observation of an animal’s behaviour as an index of its awareness. It can usually be argued that even complex behaviours need not necessarily involve an animal being aware of either environmental cues or its response to them. Indeed, simple organisms or computers can perform complex responses to environmental cues when they are clearly not aware of them in the sense that we are ourselves. What can particularly distinguish conscious awareness from simple stimulus-response guided behaviour is the ability of an animal to experience some form of emotional response to an environmental cue or to its own actions. In this review I will summarize some of our experiments on sheep which show that the way their brains process visual and olfactory social and non-social cues from the environment is integrally related to and organized by the emotional significance of what is perceived. I will also argue that the way their brains process complex social stimuli from the environment in order to recognize individuals is very similar to ourselves although these processes are very strongly influenced by changes in their motivational state. From these observations I will maintain that sheep are almost certainly capable of conscious awareness of their environment although perhaps this awareness is mainly restricted to present events and needs with a limited capacity to reflect on the past or future.

Abstract:
Although previous research shows that the use of rhyme in early language stimulation has a positive impact on children’s sign language development, this area of sign language acquisition has not been adequately researched. 90% of deaf children are born to hearing parents who barely know sign language before their child is born, and yet they are the primary language role models in their child’s life. As L2 sign language users, hearing parents of deaf children teach language skills in their L2 to their deaf child who acquires sign language as one of their L1s. In this article, we focus on the potential application of the Icelandic Sign Language (ÍTM) handshape inventory in both early language intervention with signing children and in teaching ÍTM as an L2. We argue that the handshape inventory can be used as a teaching tool when teaching sign language as M2L2 to hearing adults and as a visual language stimulation tool for signing children (M1L1 or M2L1). The main purpose of using the handshape inventory is to raise phonological awareness of signing children and adults learning sign language. This can be done by explicitly teaching handshapes to adult learners and using signed rhymes in early language stimulation.

Abstract:
Abstract Social cognition is the capacity to interpret and predict another’s behavior according to beliefs, intentions, and emotions, and the ability to decode environmental stimuli in order to be better able to adapt to new situations. A key question is the relationship between social cognition and awareness in dementia. This study aimed to investigate the relation between social and emotional functioning (SEF) and awareness in Alzheimer's disease (AD). In a cross-sectional design, a consecutive series of 50 people with mild to moderate AD and their 50 family caregivers were assessed. The study variables were awareness, SEF, neuropsychiatric symptoms, cognition, working memory, quality of life, functional activities, presence of depressive symptoms, and caregivers’ burden and cognition. We found a significant difference between self-rated SEF and informant-rated SEF. In 56% of the cases, self-rated SEF was lower than the informant-rated SEF. People with AD mostly (56%) had mildly impaired awareness of disease, 20% had moderate impaired awareness of disease, and 6% were unaware of the disease. A multivariate linear regression examined the association between informant-rated SEF score and the variables. The social functioning and relationship domain of awareness and informant-rated QoL of people with AD were significantly associated with informant-rated SEF. Conclusion: The relationship between informant-rated SEF and awareness of social functioning and relationship supports the multidimensional nature of awareness. SEF and awareness of social functioning shows that they are comprised of judgments related to perceptions about oneself and values qualitatively different from awareness of memory or functionality, which can be directly observed.

Abstract:
With the daily use of social media, the cybersecurity and privacy are challenging for most communities. This research is aimed to explore and evaluate the awareness of cybersecurity in Saudi Arabia. It is also designed to discover how the ordinary users performances in using internet security while using social media. This research employed mixed methods. The researcher sent the online questionnaire to random people who used the social media to participate in this study. At the end of the online survey, one more question was attached to ask participants to involve in the second round of data collection (interview). This research found that social media users' awareness about internet security is different from users based on their gender. In addition, the ways of contact were affecting the reaction of users to share their information with others. The results also indicated that when the level of awareness is high the way of dealing with others is different. This study also confirmed the users' belief in internet security and most of them knew the strengths of internet security enabled them to protect their devices and personal information from outside intruders. Moreover, the findings of this study showed that the users of social media need to give more attention to all types of security threats. The findings of this paper can be used theoretically and practically by identifying the level of security awareness based on social media usage and the purpose of use.

Abstract:
Purpose – This paper is an attempt to explore the awareness and attitude of the management students towards corporate social responsibility (CSR). Students are perceived as future managers of the corporate world and their perception about CSR is deemed important to business organisations. The students can make companies understand their responsibility towards various stakeholders. The paper aims to discuss these issues. Design/methodology/approach – By doing a review of past literature, an appropriate scale consisting of forty-one items has been developed to measure the dimensions of CSR. Data were collected from 294 students of various business schools situated in Rajasthan (India). The data collected was subjected to exploratory factor analysis to extract the main dimensions that would bring out the attitudes of the students towards CSR. Findings – Results revealed that the companies should pay attention to accountability towards stakeholders, corporate governance, ethical commitment and humanitarian concerns besides fulfilling other responsibilities as covered under the eight factors identified in the study. Research limitations/implications – This paper used survey data from small sample of management students in a limited geographic area. Hence, it might be difficult to generalize the results to a larger, more representative population. The research also suggests how corporations can make CSR an integral part of the business organisation. Practical implications – The dimensions identified in the study if incorporated by the business in its day-to-day operations can make it socially responsible as well as socially acceptable in the true sense. Originality/value – This research makes an empirical contribution to identify the factors which management students expect business enterprises should do to be justified as socially responsible corporate citizens.
