Abstract:
The traditional perception of terminology as a tool for scientists used mainly in standardisation and for the regulation of the term-concept relationship is currently undergoing a critical re-appraisal with the intention of transcending purely pragmatic considerations at the moment of formulating the foundations for a new theory of terms. The present paper concentrates on three issues. First it critically examines the traditional concept of what constitutes a scientific discipline; secondly it re-assesses the idea of the objectivity of scientific knowledge from the standpoint of the concept of

This investigation explores the question, when is social media use social interaction? The results of three studies indicated that social media use was rarely considered social interaction. After using social media for 5 or 10 minutes, Study 1 ( N = 116) demonstrated that infrequent, directed social media behavior (e.g. chatting, commenting) predicted having a social interaction and feeling related. Study 2 ( N = 197) used event sampling to examine participants’ social interactions with friends ( n = 2388) and found 96.5% of social interactions did not take place on social media. Study 3 ( N =

Abstract:
A new mean field statistical mechanics model of two interacting groups of spins is introduced, and the phase transition is studied in terms of their relative size. A jump of the average magnetization is found for large values of the mutual interaction when the relative percentage of the two populations crosses a critical threshold. It is shown how the critical percentage depends on internal interactions and on the initial magnetizations. The model is interpreted as a prototype of resident-immigrant cultural interaction, and conclusions from the social sciences perspectives are drawn.

Dynamical systems are widespread, with examples in physics, chemistry, biology, population dynamics, communications, climatology and social science. They are rarely isolated but generally interact with each other. These interactions can be characterized by coupling functions—which contain detailed information about the functional mechanisms underlying the interactions and prescribe the physical rule specifying how each interaction occurs. Coupling functions can be used, not only to understand, but also to control and predict the outcome of the interactions. This theme issue assembles ground-br

As the field of robotics advances, more robots are employed in our everyday environment. Thus, the implementation of robots that can actively engage in physical collaboration and naturally interact with humans is of high importance. In order to achieve this goal, it is necessary to study human interaction and social cognition and how these aspects can be implemented in robotic agents. The theory of social sensorimotor contingencies hypothesises that many aspects of human-human interaction depend on low-level signalling and mutual prediction.
