Abstract:
The findings of the study make it possible to predict further directions of preventing the marginalization of society and marginal behaviour. Marginal behaviour is a type of behavior, based on personal selfish calculations of the bearer of deformed legal consciousness, fear of punishment, condemnation and desire to escape responsibility. The following factors contribute to the marginalization of society: transformation processes in society, social crisis, imperfect legislation, deformation of legal consciousness, violation of human and citizen’s rights and freedoms and inability to realize their legitimate interests legally. The likelihood of marginal behavior depends substantially on one’s personal qualities. Marginal lifestyles usually predate the commission of a crime, and marginals often become criminals. The consequences of marginal behaviour can be offences, increased crime rates and the criminalization of society.

Abstract:
I study expertise acquisition in a model of trading under asymmetric information. I propose and implement a method to measure r, the ratio of the marginal social value to the marginal private value of expertise. This can be decomposed into three sufficient statistics: traders’ average profits, the fraction of bad assets among traded assets, and the elasticity of good assets traded with respect to capital inflows. I measure r = 0.16 for the junk bond underwriting market. Since this is less than 1, it implies that marginal investments in expertise destroy surplus. (JEL D82, G11, G14, G21, L84)

Abstract:
Comparison of the eighteenth century diaries of an English Dissenter and a Scottish Presbyterian indicates a contrast between English watchfulness and Scottish accountability. Attention to the genres of record keeping in Scotland, with a particular focus on the use of the margin, suggests systemic practices of accountability. The self-examination revealed by the diaries of the faithful needs to be set against the context of taken-for-granted practices in the broader church. Governance routines in the Church of Scotland, derived from belief and promulgated in guidance manuals before being shaped by local practice, formed a particular culture of accountability founded on detailed record keeping. The value of examining religion as social practice, as opposed to as belief system or institution, is that it points to enduring influences on the conduct of the faithful.

Abstract:
This paper presents the broad outline of an instrumental theory of social and environmental accounting (SEA) at two levels of analysis: organizational and societal. We argue that, given the impact of signaling and transaction costs as well as various other costs and benefits of SEA, the level of SEA should be set so that marginal costs of SEA equal marginal benefits (at the firm level) or marginal costs of SEA to society equal marginal benefits to society (in line with the tenets of social efficiency). In this context, we summarize the overall empirical evidence regarding the financial benefits of social and environmental disclosures for the reporting organization. Moreover, because all organizational decision making is embedded in political governance systems, we also highlight the importance of these systems for SEA and conclude with three suggestions for future research.

Abstract:
Abstract: This article aims to propose a reading of the novel Desesterro (2015), written by Sheyla Smanioto, born in São Paulo. Supported by theoretical texts about marginal literature, marginal identities and subalternity, the reading starts from the understanding that Smanioto’s text incorporates subjectivation processes. Those processes deal with characters differently from most literary texts, since they go beyond the issue of hunger, violence and misery in contexts of social exclusion, even if such issues are also discussed. Thus, to better reflect on the problem presented, the works of Spivak (2010), Dalcastagnè (2012) and Nascimento (2009) are mobilized to think about the implications of subalternity and marginal identities, as well as the discussions of Michel Foucault (2004, 2008) and bell hooks (2015) about the production of identities and the processes of subjectivation and objectification. Keywords: marginal literature; modes of subjectivation; Brazilian literature; Sheyla Smanioto.

Abstract:
This paper is mainly concerned with weighted-average measures of the social discount rate, where the components of the average are the marginal productivity of investment (measured by its gross-of-tax rate of return), and the marginal rate of time preference (measured by the net-of-tax yield of capital). We believe that these components should best be measured using data (the national accounts) that span the whole economy and reflect the product actually produced and the rewards actually perceived. We use a methodology based on just four familiar parameters to generate productivity estimates applicable to a wide range of countries. In the process, we make an adjustment for infrastructure investment, also excluding income from land, monopoly markups, supra-marginal returns due to increases in total factor productivity (TFP), and returns to capital in financial intermediation. The end products are estimates of social discount rates averaging around 8% for the advanced countries, and 10% for healthy developing countries and Asian Tigers.

Abstract:
The relevance of the work is due to the presence of a contradiction between the prevalence of humor, its ubiquity and ubiquity in social reality and its rather weak research as a phenomenon of this social reality. The main line of existing research on the nature of humor is connected with the study of it as a statement with a special (contradictory) logic. The purpose of this article is to study the nature of humor not so much within the framework of a separate statement with a special logic but as a phenomenon that constructs social reality, as well as the place of humorous reality among other types of social reality. The analysis is carried out on the basis of the constructivist approach, by the method of reconstruction of the humorous text. As a result of the study, the hypothesis of the existence of humor as a certain layer between referential realities (Zh. Derrida) is supplemented by the idea of constructing in a humorous utterance on the basis of these referential realities a special independent reality of humor, which remains marginal within the framework of the discourse in which referential realities are realized. Humor destroys the contingent logic of discourse in a certain semantic field, comparing previously disparate realities. The construction of humorous reality within the semantic field of professional knowledge performs other functions than outside of it (for example, in everyday knowledge). The absence or limitation of jokes about the knowledge sacred to the system, which belongs to the nuclear part of the corresponding discourse that constructs the system, is a protective mechanism for this system, which stabilizes society. The results of the study are a continuation of the development of the constructivist approach in ontology and social philosophy and can serve as a basis for studying the ways of constructing realities in society

Abstract:
It’s difficult to imagine any social community without marginal phenomena – marginal groups, people, social roles, displays of marginal consciousness and behavior. In every society individuals, social and ethnic groups and social strata act as bearers of marginal qualities. In other words, marginality is a social-cultural and social-psychological phenomenon, which has always been an indivisible part of different historical societies of various social types. In this sense, the study of the phenomenon of anomie, considered in the context of marginality, is especially important. The importance of problems of anomic identities increases especially in transforming societies, where in the result of political, economic, social and cultural reconstructions oncestable social structures are changed. Their elements – the social institutes, social groups and individuals appear in intermediate and transitional situations. In a sense, anomie becomes one of the main characteristics of marginality in transforming societies.

Abstract:
Purpose – The purpose of this paper is to estimate survey-based values of the elasticity of marginal social valuation of income, an important welfare parameter in cost-benefit analysis. Design/methodology/approach – A model relating equity welfare weights to income is developed, and iso-elasticity of marginal valuation of income is tested using survey data obtained from a sample of Turkish politicians who are instrumental in policy making. Findings – Based on the survey feedback, formal statistical testing indicates that Turkish politicians, regardless of party allegiance, reveal preferences consistent with an iso-elastic marginal social valuation of income. The estimated value of the elasticity measure is close to unity for each of the political parties. Originality/value – The originality of the paper is in terms of the survey method used to obtain from Turkish politicians estimates of the marginal social valuation of income. This welfare parameter is needed in the calculation of both social discount rates and welfare weights. The paper will be of interest to academics in the field of welfare economics as well as to practitioners involved in the appraisal of social projects and policies.

Abstract:
A new round of garbage classification campaign is carrying out in China. Using Chinese General Social Survey (CGSS) Data in 2013, the study focuses on the influence mechanism of social capital on garbage classification in China and the difference between urban and rural areas. Descriptive analysis, Ordered Logit model and “Coefficient clustering method” were used in this study. The results show that social capital (online social capital, social network, social trust) can effectively promote garbage classification after controlling the relevant individual characteristic variables in China. China’s garbage classification is embedded in the Chinese social environment. Further analyzing the marginal effect of social capital found that online social capital has the large marginal effect. The effect of social network is greater than the influence effect of social trust. But the marginal effect of social trust is higher than the marginal effect of social network. And social trust has the largest marginal effect. This not only makes up for the previous literature’s neglect of online social capital, marginal effect, but also illustrates the importance of online social capital. And it proves the interaction between traditional Chinese social network and modern social trust. In addition, the influence of social capital on urban and rural garbage classification is heterogeneous in China. Both social trust and social network have influence on the urban classification garbage. However, only social network have a significant influence in rural areas, and social trust has not played a role. China’s garbage classification should focus on social factors, that is, the influence of social capital. It is necessary to follow the coupling between the top-down logic of government and the bottom-up logic of society, and realize the nationwide participation. It is of great significance for promoting the sustainable development of China and the sustainable development of the world.

Abstract:
This paper compares optimal nonlinear income tax policies of welfarist and paternalist governments, where the latter does not respect individual preferences regarding relative consumption. Consistent with previous findings, relative consumption concerns typically induce a welfarist government to increase the marginal tax rates to internalize positional externalities. Remarkably, the optimal marginal tax rules are often very similar in the paternalist case, where such externalities are not taken into account. We identify several cases where the marginal tax rules are indeed identical between the governments. Numerical simulations show that marginal and average tax levels and the overall redistribution are often also similar. (JEL D62, D72, H21, H23, H24)

Abstract:
The analysis of social types, such as the stranger, the marginal man and the folk devil, has a long, significant history in sociology and related fields. Although the social type concept currently enjoys a rather marginal status, in recent years the related concept of figure has been increasingly deployed in research. This article contends that Bourdieu’s work on classification and social differentiation can offer fruitful tools for a renewed focus on types and figures. To this end, it advocates a critical approach to the study of social types and figures in which they are conceived as social identities tied to classificatory struggles over meaning, value, recognition and resources between differentially positioned actors. The article also attempts to clarify the distinction between types and figures and discuss how they can be applied in research. The main arguments of the article are developed through a critical reading of key contributions to research on social types and figures as well as through the discussion of two empirical studies.

Abstract:
Purpose – The purpose of this paper is to detect causes of potential vulnerability via indicators of non-resilience among marginalized groups. These causes could become a catalyst for a major deprivation of resilience and further victimization of a group, either while disaster is occurring or in its aftermath. Design/methodology/approach – Exploration of resilience was based on social and economic research conducted in Serbia 2012-2013 with one of the most vulnerable communities, with the goal of mapping local understandings of resilience in contrast to issues of risk and vulnerability. A specific two layer methodology, i.e. phenomenology of desperateness was based on sociological imagination and social action. Findings – The author detected and labeled the most relevant socio-economic causes of miserable life conditions among the given marginal group. Such analytical dimensions become marked as the indicators of vulnerabilities. Mapping these vulnerabilities, especially among the marginal communities, is the first step in preventing their victimization. Practical implications – The responsible social agents are compatible with the creation of the relevant map and profile of the most vulnerable actors with the goal of preventing a possible eugenics selection during DRR and response. Social implications – In addition to preventing victimization during a disaster, this study provides preventives of the sentiment-driven actions induced by paternalistically organised everyday life (established by way of the same indicators) within the framework of a new totalitarian ideology, such as a para-military organization of daily activities. Originality/value – This paper provides a specific methodology for detecting desperateness as an inner process in vulnerability and new insights into the comprehension of the relation between social structure of marginal groups, their resilience and their members’ vulnerability.

Abstract:
Palabras clave: personajes marginales, resurrección, crucifixión, José María Arguedas AbstractThis article proposes that the marginal characters of Los ríos profundos, el Pongo, la opa, and the colonist at the hacienda de Patibamba, are the agents of the transformation of the social structure that confines some subjects to the condition of the exploited while it converts others to being the exploiters. In this sense, since the marginal characters question a social system that reproduces the hierarchy of its member, the article proposes that the life trajectory of those characters actualizes the way by which biblical stories present the resurrection of Jesus, that is to say, the fundamental affirmation of Christian faith according to which the resuscitated is previously crucified. Abstract:
This paper proposes to evaluate tax reforms by aggregating money metric losses and gains of different individuals using “generalized social marginal welfare weights.” Optimum tax formulas take the same form as standard welfarist tax formulas by simply substituting standard marginal social welfare weights with those generalized weights. Weights directly capture society's concerns for fairness without being necessarily tied to individual utilities. Suitable weights can help reconcile discrepancies between the welfarist approach and actual tax practice, as well as unify in an operational way the most prominent alternatives to utilitarianism such as Libertarianism, equality of opportunity, or poverty alleviation. Abstract:

Abstract:

Abstract:

Abstract:
Historically, child care, in much of Africa, was a communal responsibility especially through the practice of kinship fosterage. However, as a result of recent socioeconomic changes, there is some evidence to suggest that a shift is taking place in community perceptions about the continuing benefit of kinship fosterage for children in particular. Instead, the roles of parents are being foregrounded in the socialization process. Despite this, there is evidence to suggest that large numbers of parents are retreating from their responsibilities. In this way, traditional safety nets that existed for children are being chipped away, leading many to look after themselves or explore alternative sources of support and care. Therefore, this article aims to explore the extent to which current perceptions of kinship fosterage are changing in Ghana.

Abstract:
