Full textIn today’ s society nearly every student has a Facebook profile, and the majority log into Facebook on a daily basis. Students upload more and more private information on social networks, and today it has evolved into a source of information that businesses can use in a recruitment process. What this essay will answer is the attitude of students at KTH towards social recruitment through Facebook and how students adapt. By a quantitative study we examined how much students know about social recruitment, their attitude towards it and how they adapt. We also had a qualitative study to examine why the attitude towards social recruitment is the way it is. Furthermore we wanted to answer if students find social recruitment to be an acceptable tool in a recruitment process. The results show that the majority of students are aware of the fact that social recruitment takes place, and that they also find it to be an acceptable recruitment tool. However, we found that the majority of students choose to have closed profiles, because they do not want third parties to be able to access their private information. One of the problems that was identified with social recruitment is the problem with interpretations, that it is the recruiter’s subjective opinions that are applied when screening a candidate’s profile.

Full textThe prevalence of social media is significant and only a minority of the population is not on social media in any form. This creates valuable information that is used by organizations and recruiters, among other things, to create an image and risk minimize the next recruitment. However, this is a relatively new way of recruiting and collecting information and there are a lack of guidelines and understanding of how it can be used in a responsible manner. New legislation such as GDPR shows that there is a need to ensure that the information is not used incorrectly. The aim of the study is to increase understanding of how recruitment companies use information from social media in the recruitment process from a responsibility perspective. A qualitative study was conducted with 10 informants in the staffing industry. The method was used as the study wanted to capture the respondents' perception of social media use in a recruitment process. Since the staffing industry is focused on recruitment, these were considered the target group that offered the most expertise and knowledge. The study has concluded that there is a problem with screening of social media as it is an unregulated tool. Legislation is not sufficient and there is no clarity on what role of responsibility applies. Recruiters would like to use social media without being worried that they are crossing borders and they are in a dialectical tension where they consider it a good tool while at the same time risking being considered irresponsible to use it. Increased clarity on how it can and should be used proves desirable from recruiters to give them the opportunity to be transparent with their work.

Full textAbstract
This study shows the process of recruiting personnel at six HVB-institutions (Home for treatment and housing). The purpose of the study was to explore what competencies the managers were searching for when employing new personnel. The questions at issue were if the recruiting process was relying on scientific grounds and how the final evaluation of the candidates was made. The study was carried out on basis of theories on recruiting process, competencies, intelligence and personality. Six managers or assistant mangers were interviewed about the recruiting process at each institution. The results show that the recruiting process didn’t rely on scientific grounds but instead on practice and experience. The evaluation of the candidates was made partly on fixed criteria’s like education, experience and personality but also regarding the managers’ gut-feeling during the employment interview. The competencies required by the managers were personal abilities like personal maturity, energetic, stable and social skills like ability to cooperate, ability to form relations and verbal communication. The results show that successful recruitment can be carried out with limited work effort but a more structured and extensive procedure, as prescribed in recruitment literature, provides greater possibilities to predict work performance and hire the right co-worker.

Full textThis study covers advertising agencies’ use of social media in the process of recruiting full time employees and freelancers respectively. The aim is to gain an understanding of how social media is utilized and how employers discuss the use of social media channels. The method used in this study was semi-structured qualitative interviews and the interviews were carried out with four people with recruiting responsibility at four different advertising agencies in Malmö. The study shows that the respondents predominantly use social media to advertise jobs and search for potential employees and freelancers. The advantage of social media is that it provides a way to reach outside of the agencies’ own network. In contrast to what other studies have found the respondents in this study does not use social media to gain personal background information about candidates. This can be seen as positive as it lessens the risk of information being taken out of context and leading to discriminating decisions. The main difference between recruiting employees and recruiting freelancers seems to be the importance of the applicant’s personality which in turn affect the formality of the recruiting process.
