Abstract:

Abstract:

Abstract:
Aside from equating it with Hitlerism, there have been few scholarly attempts to define national socialism and specify its relation to the broader category of fascism. This article posits that national socialisms are a sub-genus of fascism, where the distinguishing feature is an ultaranationalism based on a palingenetic völkisch racism, of which anti-Semitism is an essential element. Thus, national socialism is not just mimetic Hitlerism, as Hitler is not even necessary. National socialist movements may even conceivably be opposed to the goals and actions of Hitlerism. To test this definition, the case of Latvia’s Pērkonkrusts [Thunder Cross] movement is analysed. Based on an analysis of its ideology, Pērkonkrusts is a national socialist movement with a völkisch racialist worldview, while also being essentially anti-German. The case study even addresses the apparent paradox that Pērkonkrusts both collaborated in the Holocaust, and engaged in resistance against the German occupation regime.

Abstract:
Through an historical analysis of the transnational practices of economists during the Cold War, Johanna Bockman rejects the narrative that the revolutions of 1989 represented the victory of ‘Western economics’, and especially neoliberalism, over ‘East-European socialism’. Rather, Bockman shows that the space of exchange, as well as policy experimentation in socialist states such as Yugoslavia and Hungary, led to the articulation of alternative, decentralised, ‘market socialisms’ from the 1950s up until the 1980s. Instead of operating within separate and incommensurable paradigms of ‘capitalist’ and ‘socialist’ economics, Bockman shows how neoclassical theory and its long tradition of comparing distinct economic systems became the centralepistemeallowing for the transnational exchange of ideas between economists of both the East and the West. This review-essay evaluates the book’s central claims but argues that the book stands on weaker ground when arguing that a reformed socialism was a viable option in Eastern Europe after 1989.

Abstract:
The Czech Republic’s socialist-era neighborhoods are largely intact twenty years after the end of Communist Party rule. These buildings will be rehabilitated, but not replaced, because of financial and logistical constraints. In the context of the country’s accession to the European Union in 2004 and the recent global economic crisis, this essay questions what can and should be done in an effort to make these neighborhoods better places to live in the present and the future. It starts with a brief history of postwar housing construction and socialist-era design methodologies, exploring postwar architectural practice and innovations in construction technology that were connected to the industrialization of housing production. The role of the Baťa Company in the development of panelák technology is described. In the context of post-socialist rehabilitation efforts, the discussion addresses current housing policy including regulated rents and the shift in emphasis from renting to ownership. Government subsidies and grant programs are considered, as well as problems such as physical degradation and social segregation. The essay proposes that for the future the social and spatial ideas that were part of the original designs may be more important than the architectural style of individual buildings.

Abstract: To speak about religious socialism is somewhat ambiguous. There are a lot of socialisms in history and at present. The scope of this article is to demonstrate that, in biblical Revelation and in Christian Tradition, some kind of socialism is visibly present. Yaweh reveals himself as a God who remains on the side of slaves, in opposite of Pharaoh, and commits himself to them. Jesus rejects the legalism of the Temple and renews the prophetic promise that requires fidelity to the Covenant, symbol of justice and love for the helpless. The Kingdom of God refers to a “new” social order to be established on this earth, but whose full realization lies always in the future. This same religious socialism is to be found in Christian Tradition and mankind´s history. At present, the pendulum of the church, dangerously, tends once more to the side of the Temple. Maintain the religious socialism and the search for a “new” social order, continues to be one of the greatest challenges of pastoral ministry in our day.

Abstract: In 1977, the Socialist University Association (ASU) was refounded as a section of the Socialist Federation of Madrid of the PSOE. Abstract:
This paper examines the relationship between race, socialism, and democracy in America. It is organized into five sections and a conclusion. The first section explores how socialism has been viewed by many black leaders and intellectuals as necessary, imperative perhaps, in the black struggle for material equality, and further investigates the relationship of this black perspective on socialism to white opposition. The second section uses the most recent historical work to identify the factors that have the stalled the development of socialism in America. I also assess how these factors have changed or not in terms of making the socialist project more likely. In the third section, I analyze available poll data on American opinion about socialism from the 1930s to the present. While the data show unambiguously increased support for socialism since the 1930s, socialism does not today command the support of a majority of the American people. In the fourth section I examine the paradigmatic Franklin Roosevelt presidency on how liberal Democratic presidents have avoided the socialist label while embracing socialist programs. The fifth section is a brief examination of what socialism—really existing socialism—means in the early twenty-first century, and the idea of “socialist smuggling” as manifested in the presidencies of FDR and Lyndon Johnson. The speculative conclusion asks what are the prospects for the socialist project, and whether the white liberal cosmopolitan bourgeoisie rather than the white working class might become a mass base for the socialist project.

Abstract:
Palabras clave: Crítica, Izquierda, Democracia, Violencia Octavio's LabyrinthSummaryThis essay proposes an interpretation of Octavio Paz's political positions, with the purpose of identifying his political legacy. For this purpose, the idea that Octavio Paz was an intellectual of the socialist left, based on the rereading of his main political essays, is put into discussion. In this logic, he is conceptualized as a poet with political positions, who discursively defended a type of democratic socialism from a national-revolutionary position. In the search for the discursive rules and strategies used by Paz to talk about violence, the left, democracy and socialism, it is possible to identify his theoretical criticism from the literary field, with clear interventions in the political and intellectual fields. Octavio Paz, wanted, evidently, to enlighten the Mexican left with the warning of what happened in the socialist-bureaucratic regimes. Paz's democratic program, at hand for the left of his time and the current left, constitutes a recovery of liberal democracy, a scaffolding for Mexican society, a modernization project not tested by the PRI regime and destroyed, in its time, by the socialist bureaucracies of the country.

V.:Socialinio darbo katedra, 2007. 68 p. Santrauka Lietuvoje nemažai daroma vaikų gerovei, kompensavimui to, ko vaikai netenka dėl susiklosčiusių šeiminių aplinkybių: suformuota atitinkama paramos teisinė bazė, sukurta paramos vaikui ir šeimai infrastruktūra (vaikų teisių apsaugos tarnyba, savivaldybių lygmens parama šeimai, socialinis vaikų rėmimas švietimo įstaigose).

In this study, radical socialist articles written on feminism, the feminist movement and the woman question published between 1987 and 1994 in Turkey are examined. The study attempts at describing, classifying and analyzing the Turkish socialist discourse manifested in response to the emergence of feminism in Turkey. It is argued that the Turkish socialists&rsquo
approaches to feminism and the feminists do not differ much, nor a change in their approaches with time can be observed. It is also argued that the theoretical content of the radical socialist articles is usually futile and far from being comprehensive.

E isto o teria levado a ficar a reboque do trabalhismo? Abstract: The goal of this work is the PCB's - Brazilian Communist Party - acting in the temporal hiatus of 1942 to 1958, i.e., from the Party's reorganization during the New State of Getúlio Vargas to the XX Congress of the Communist Party of the Soviet Union (CPSU). Faced with the historiographical debate that emerges from the PCB's acting, the question that guides our research is as follows: did the Party really intended to achieve a tacit alliance with the national bourgeoisie? And did this, if true, resulted in Party trailing behind Labourism? In light of this, it seemed to us much more a tactical defense of the order, to the strengthening of the Party's organization, than strictly an "alliance". From this emerges our hypothesis: that the Theory of the Brazilian Revolution put forward by PCB oscillated between reformist and revolutionary positions, failing to succeed, in practice, at realizing an autonomous policy, both in the internal ranks and in the core of the working class, staying, as result, indirectly trailed behind the developmental Laborism. We verify in our conclusion that, however, the alliances' policy of the PCB wasn't one intentionally "traillist". The communists, over the studied historical period, had important tactical victories, achieving prominence inside the Brazilian Left in the 50's. We also defend in this research that the communists' policy of alliances had as motto the path to Socialism, a route side by side with the enormous difficulties in the acting of... Abstract:
Through the commentary on a particularly interesting period taken from the Introduction to La libertà viene prima, the author intends to focus on Bruno Trentin's idea of socialism. Giovanni Mari underlines how this idea foresees the critique of four theses of the modern socialist tradition: 1) socialism is not a model of society, but a continuous process; 2) in our company the company does not constitute a world in itself; 3) the socialization of property does not solve the problems of democracy; 4) the center of civil coexistence is not constituted by the class but by the person. And four positive theses: 1) the form of political action does not foresee two separate times, first the seizure of power and then the reforms; 2) the measure of society is the freedom of the person; 3) the goal of the socialist process is the self-realization of the person; 4) everything begins with the person who works, that is, with the battle for freedom in work.

Abstract:
Worker remittances are the second largest source of external finance for developing countries after FDIs, which has increased interest in measuring their effect on economic growth in underdeveloped economies. In this study, I analyze the causal relationship between remittances and economic growth in two post-socialist countries - Armenia and Georgia, which experienced significant emigration after the collapse of socialism. To minimize endogeneity problems, I employ POLS (pooled ordinary least squares) and FE (fixed effects) estimations in assessing the effects of remittance on economic growth. Data set covers the 1997-2019 period. Results show that remittances have a positive effect on economic growth in these small post-socialist economies.

Abstract:

Abstract:
In the socialist era, economists, like other scientists, had limited connections to the West and their work rarely appeared in international journals due to methodological differences between the Western and the socialist scholars in social sciences, inadequacies in English, and other legal restrictions. After the collapse of socialism, legal barriers were lifted but the new republics still needed new economists equipped with the requirements of the new economic order based on private property and market mechanisms. To this end, they reorganized their economics curricula, published new textbooks, and trained students and academics. Aim of this study is to discuss impact of policies adopted in economics education by transition countries on publication performances of economists in former socialist countries in Balkan region. In this regard, articles published by the economists of former socialist countries in the Balkans between 1990 and 2013 are examined. The articles published in journals indexed by Scopus database are classified on the bases of countries, dates, authors, affiliations, journals and subjects. Long term trends derived from these classifications are interpreted. The results of this study show that number of publications by Balkan economists in Scopus economics journals increased gradually over 1990-2013 period: Particularly, increasing number of regional journals indexed in the Scopus soared the international publications of the Balkan economists. Overwhelming majority of these works are in English, published in regional journals and are about regional issues. The study also revealed that most of the contributors are affiliated to big, old, public universities of the region.

Abstract:

Abstract:
In the world economy, since 1960s, countries, which are open and apply liberal policies succeeded higher economic growth and welfare. Therefore, liberal policies became more attractive. In that case, the transition, which has political, economic, and socio-cultural aspects, means moving from socialist-authoritarian structure to market based-liberal structures. In the literature, there are many studies which point out labor force and capital are not significant on the economic growth. In addition, the literature focuses on the importance of institutions on the economic growth. In this study, we compare the countries which were quickly away from the socialist structures with the countries which were slow on the reforms. Our analysis depends on their economic growth with cross section. However, we know the importance of institutional aspects on the growth research; therefore, we applied 2SLS regression analysis and to determine the economic liberalism indicators we used political rights, civil liberties, years that were under the socialism, openness, secondary school ratio, and public spending/GDP ratio. In the late phase, GDP per capita, as an indicator of economic growth, is explained with an independent variable which is predicted in the first phase via liberalism variable, and labor-population ratio and constant capital stock GDP ratio variables used in Neo-classical Solow-type growth model.

In International Conference on Eurasian Economies. Eurasian Economists Association, 2011. http://dx.doi.org/10.36880/c02.00291.

Abstract:
In the literature on economic growth, Kuznets curve shows the relationship between growth and income distribution. According to the Kuznets curve, as per capita income rises, income distribution would first become more unequal, and then less unequal. This means that, in a less developed country poverty is shared; in a developing country the difference between the rich and the poor becomes wider; and in a developed country richness is shared. In economies in transition, from socialism to market economy, however, income distribution should be less unequal because of the socialist system. But during the transition, there occurred recessions that led to falls in income. Therefore, during the transition process, as income decreased, income distribution became more unequal. In this study, the relationship between per capita income and income distribution on the transition economies are investigated by means of panel data analysis. The results obtained are then compared with the Kuznets curve.

Abstract:
Especially in the structures where women are excluded from socioeconomic life parallel to the traditional understanding of society, the burden has remained on men as a factor of production. However, as women started to be included in the production process as a production factor in parallel with getting rid of this shackle, societies that experienced an increase in the labor force stock gained a greater advantage than societies that could not achieve this. On the other hand, not only in terms of the workforce but also with its entrepreneurial dimension, the factor of women leads to significant progress in economic development. In other words, it is clear that entrepreneurship in general and women's entrepreneurship, which is an excluded factor in many societies in particular, has higher effects on economic growth and development. Since the market mechanism was not known due to the public power that carried out production and distribution in the former socialist countries that went through the transition from socialism to capitalism, the process was built by trial and error. Beyond the perspectives that perceive women as non-production, the claim that not seeing women as planning the independent production process would be an obstacle to economic development has been analyzed on 18 former socialist countries. Considering the cross-sectional dependency and heterogeneity problems of the data used in the study, the panel Grenger Causality test was conducted. In the findings obtained, it has been determined that there is a one-way causal relationship from women's entrepreneurship to economic growth.

Abstract:
During the years 1955–1991, the attempts and searches meant to impose qualities corresponding to the fundamental principles of socialism on the architecture led to the realization of buildings with distinctive features, qualified today as modernist-socialist. Over a period of more than three decades, Soviet architecture turned to a synthesis of Western paradigms and its own avant-garde, largely unbuilt heritage. Theater, cinema and music, considered to be fields of culture accessible to the masses at large, are the genres of art placed at the center of the cultural policy of the Soviet state. In addition to the old buildings readapted for cultural activities, new buildings are designed based on a rigorous transposition of functional requirements. Representative for this time period are the cinemas designed to meet the requirements of a growing audience and to be expressive architectural pieces in the new micro-districts. The large number of houses of culture built in the district centers on the basis of standard projects is significant. At the same time, unique architectural programs appear functionally reflecting the social superstructure.

Right-wing extremism and national socialism (Nazism) are not a new phenomenon in Sweden. White supremacists or neo-Nazis have a long history in the country. Nordic Resistance Movement (Nordiska motståndsrörelsen, NMR) rests on this century-long history of Swedish Nazi and Neonazi activism. Including racism, antisemitism, anti-immigration, and anti-globalisation stances with violent tendencies, NMR which aims to overthrow the democratic order in the Nordic region and establish a national socialist state, has become the primary force of white power in Sweden and other Nordic countries.
