Full textIn an educational situation, a correlation is formed between social and cultural background and pedagogy. The educational system hasn't weakened the social theory which affirm the correspondance between social origin and school results. The best explanation for scholastic failure, for teachers, is the concept of social and cultural "handicap". This notion, presenting the "handicap" as the child's individual deficiency, preservs the educational system from all responsability as to pupils scholastic failure. A "handicap" is conditioned by a situation always compared with an idealized "no-handicap" situation. We are all, in one way or another, "handicaped" and "handicapers". The teacher. Wether a responsable actor or a passive actor of the institution, transmits that of which the individual is bearer: he teaches not only what he knows but also what he is and he cannot guarantee systematically a normative institutional neutrality. A gap exists between the teacher's and the individual's background references, between the teacher-person's background and the school's culture, between the school's culture and the multicultural (or pluricultural) national tendency. These gaps, in the event of school failure, are strategical places which have consequencies on the efficiency of pedagogical exercise and which determine the teacher's, the educational system's and policy's pedagogical "handicap"

Full textAlthough women were rarely taught to read and write in Brittany under the Old Regime, the education of girls was not totally ignored, it was even an importat factor of the Catholic Reform. The development of monasteries in the 17th century particularly helped educational establishmets. The Ursulin nuns who settled in the province were quickly perceived as being the ideal religious teacher because of their special vocation, educating the poor in classes during the day, and even boarding young girls. In fact a large majority of religious congregations and orders usually offered free education and boarding for the very poor. During the Age of enlightenment and parallel to this strong religious model, gradually emerged a movemet of lay women teachers for the young. And also several no-cloistered congregations were started in the 18th century thus promoting education in the rural areas. Teaching under the Old Regime appeared generally like apostolic work more than just giving access to the skills of reading, writing and arithmetic. Moreover it seems that education, far from being an elitist school system, offered a wide variety of schools open to young people from every class of society. Under the Old Regime, the popular opinion about educating girls was very certainly a major obstacle in systematically reaching all the girls to give them an education and to teach them to read and write : the structures existed but the mentality kept the teachers from attaining their objectives. Actually education for girls was limited to the time allotted for religious instruction which proved much too short to acquire even a minimum of reading and writing skills

Full textThis research focuses on the uses of educational audiovisual by teachers. It falls within the theoretical framework of the sociology of uses, however, the research object at the heart of this work is at the intersection of audiovisual and educational issues. Therefore, it aims to develop a communicationnal approach of educational tools and media, as defined by Pierre Moeglin (2005). The first stage of this work tries to highlight the elements that configure the use, regarding the side of actors. First, we propose an archeology of educational audiovisual, then, we return to the current offer in terms of educational audiovisual and specifically on the content proposed by the first digital educational video on demand for teachers, lesite.tv. The second phase focuses more on the uses itself. After studying the use of lesite.tv, using quantitative data, we see how far the representations of designers are part of the user configuration uses. These are analyzed through the speeches of users and non-users teachers, within a series of comprehensive interviews. The realization of som user’s portraits and cross-sectional analysis of the interviews, allows to evaluate the "negotiated renunciations" that occur within the class, regarding to the professional identity of teachers, refering to public and private spheres and, finally, facing the so called "digital conversion". Overall, this research questions the tension that the use of educational audiovisual established between educational and media logics. It carries as such issues related to the industrialization of education ; and towards audiovisual, transmedia prospects

Full textOur research concerns the attempt to build what is called New System. This method is being developed, with some discretion, mainly in Central Conservatoire Beijing. This “New System” seems to be inspired by three European active methods (Jaques-Dalcroze, Orff and Kodaly). The aim of the research, after having described the historical context, is first to identify methods which inspired the "New System", the contribution of factors particular to China. Then, trying to understand the relationship between the emergence of this New System and Chinese society. We chose direct observation, semi-structured interviews with trainers and trainees, analysis of video and analysis of the interviews. The overall analysis of the data shows that New System directories include Chinese folk songs that are often rewritten and adapted to the needs of the teaching of the New System, many Western songs, Western tonal music, improvised tonal music. There is little room for the teaching of Chinese traditional music. This research allows us to understand on one hand, that there is a demand for the field of education (including music) to train future creative citizens to meet the needs of economic transformation. On the other hand, that there is a desire to maintain the unity of China. In this New System, there is a tendency towards a certain autonomy of the individual. However, this desire may conflict with the maintenance of social cohesion in a country where many people live and where reigned a long authoritarian tradition
