Abstract:
In the article, on the basis of the culturological concept of the content of education as an adapted social experience, as well as the practice of its implementation in vocational training as purposeful and declared, the essence of its explicit, hidden and implicit components is differentiated for the first time. The leading role of the hidden content of education in the transmission of sociocultural values is revealed, which ensures the formation of the value-worldview characteristics of the personality of a competent graduate, capable of effective professional activity in the conditions of sociocultural transformations of the postindustrial era. The dynamic structure of the hidden education content is revealed, which includes communicative and subject components and which made it possible to determine the directions of its update by the sociocultural aspect. The update of the education content in the context of the growing role of the cultural factor in social development is realized through the sociocultural reflection of the transmitted social experience, for the development of which the diagnostic-forming methodology “My sociocultural values” has been developed. As a result of the update of the hidden education content by the sociocultural aspect, it is transformed into an implicit (updated hidden), which, while not being declared, but being adapted and purposeful in reflecting and translating sociocultural experience, improves the training of specialists in various directions and profiles, implements the leading principle of higher education.

Abstract:
The article deals with the problems of socio-cultural changes associated with globalization processes. The sociocultural approach explains the trends in the transformation of the sociocultural space, sociocultural environment. In the context of globalization, a paradigm of nonlinearity, locality in the sphere of sociocultural life is being formed. One of the main tools of globalization is sociocultural expansion, which contributes to the unification of sociocultural development. The combination of the global and the local in the evolution of the sociocultural sphere creates a dual situation in the anagenesis of the sociocultural space. Globality enhances the impact of liberal-modernist values. Locality favors the preservation of the influence of traditional and conservative values. The vector of socio-cultural development of Russian society has not been determined.

Abstract:
This thesis reflects the epistemological theoretical and methodical-technical research aimed to prove that the advertising system (advertising in various types of speech) can reveal the sociocultural trends because it captures and expresses the spirit of time (Zeitgeist). Using the semiotics analysis based on the General Theory of Signs of C.S. Peirce as a qualitative method. For this, we held the semiotics analysis of a corpus analysis (sample) compound of several pieces of the advertising system, understood as a large and hybrid complex where all marketing communication tools (various types of actions in the traditional media and social media) and brand expressiveness (mascot, packaging, store windows, etc.) are located. We selected a sample collected within one year in Brazil and the United States, and that includes print advertising and digital, audiovisual (commercial films and videos on social networks) billboards, posters and shop windows. The method was developed by Santaella (2000; 2002) and Perez (2004) and enabled us to identify the symbolic recurrences of the time spirit that led to the diagnosis of two macro trends, \"By the Reality Filter\" and \"Imaginary World\", concretizing the research objectives and the central hypothesis of the thesis. After analyzing the sample, we did a confirmatory step comparing the trends we identified with trend reports of three respected companies in this field of work.Pursuing to be sure that this was in synergy with the interpretive paradigm and the objectives outlined we present a theoretical chapter about the semiotics developed by Peirce, what contributes to the reader to have a greater understanding of the analysis method used. The route of the research also brought the discussion of sociocultural trends and the Hegelian concept of zeitgeist as well as the History of Culture until reach the consumer culture, one of the fundamental characteristics of contemporary society. This study also addressed advertising in the contemporary context where culture and consumption come together inseparably. This thesis also presents a categorization of brands based on the Diffusion of Innovation Theory (Rogers,1962), according to which they can be classified as \"innovative brands\", which cast trend, and \"followers brands,\" which just adds to the diffusion of values already in transit in social dynamics. Also the diffusion theories are contemplated in the course of the research. In addition, this thesis puts the consumption as the preferred arena for understanding the contemporary society, integrating ethics and aesthetics through its cultural manifestations, such as the advertising system, which reveal the zeitgeist or spirit of the times.

Abstract:
Sociocultural factors have long been implicated in body image and eating disorders. Decades of data, drawn from multiple disciplines, consistently demonstrate the influence of culture on body image and eating disorders across several levels of analysis. This chapter engages the rich empirical literature on this subject to retheorize the role and importance of these contextual factors in light of anthropological and related social theories relevant to contemporary circumstances. Specifically, this chapter first analyzes and operationalizes what we mean by “culture” in body image and eating disorder scholarship, describes trends in salient sociocultural factors, and highlights the varying impacts of globalization where societies are increasingly interconnected. It also urges research that builds on current understandings by increasing collaborations among not only multiple disciplines within the social sciences but also biological and clinical sciences.

This article focuses on three overlapping trends in the historical study of human responses to illness, labeled as “new history of medicine, history of public health, and sociocultural history of disease.” The topics range from colonial epidemiology and pharmacopoeia to twentieth-century public health institutions and urban hygiene. But a consistent focus on the social, cultural, and symbolic components of diseases and cures unifies this historiography and distinguishes it from the narrower scope of the long-established field of the history of medicine.

Abstract:
The second chapter discusses how platforms introduce new mechanisms to social interaction through the mutual articulation of platform technologies, economic models, and user practices. The mechanism of “datafication” refers to the ability of networked platforms to render into data many aspects of the world that have never been quantified before. Datafication revolves around the capturing and circulation of data. “Commodification” concerns the transformation of online and offline objects, activities, emotions, and ideas into tradable commodities. It involves the development of multisided markets and new business models. Finally, the mechanism of “selection” is about the curation of most relevant topics, terms, actors, objects, offers, services, etc. It takes shape through personalization, trends and reputations, and moderation practices. Understanding the platform society requires a thorough analysis of the ecosystem’s mechanisms and the constantly evolving techno-commercial and sociocultural practices through which they take shape.

Abstract:
This introductory chapter provides an overview of the book's main themes. This book brings together work that focuses on understudied and contemporarily resonant topics—scholarship that illuminates trends in the study of African American diplomacy, attempts to (re)open lines of theoretical inquiry, demonstrates creative use of archival materials, and motivates questions for further research. Topics range from consideration of early diplomatic appointees to assessments of those leaders who have served as policy makers, performers, and cultural ambassadors from the nineteenth century to the present. The chapters are informed by scholarship on African Americans as formal diplomatic appointees, studies of citizen diplomacy, and research that seeks to bring a global context to domestic affairs. The volume synthesizes the extant literature and, in so doing, bridges the scholarly gap between institutional and extra-institutional (i.e., sociocultural) forms of African American diplomacy throughout American history and suggests new directions in historiography.

Abstract:
Latin America has a long urban tradition. Since the middle of the nineteenth century, it has been more urbanized than any other region on the globe except North America, northwestern Europe, and Australia/New Zealand. This has produced large urban working classes, large labor movements, and an equally large—and by now traditional—labor historiography, particularly in Latin America itself. This article discusses trends that have shifted the focus from organized labor to workers themselves and their sociocultural world inside and outside the factory. It covers working-class formation during the second half of the nineteenth century, the influence of anarchism and socialism on labor and urban life from the 1880s to the Great Depression, the relationship of organized labor and populist regimes from the latter event to the 1960s, and the emergence since then of what has been called “new unionism,” a more politically independent and grass-roots form of labor mobilization.

Abstract:
There are three forms of modern Darwinian evolutionism in the social sciences and humanities: the gene-based biological, the social learning-based sociocultural, and gene–culture coevolution dealing with their interaction. This chapter focuses on cultural or sociocultural evolution. It begins with a discussion of the Darwinian-inspired evolutionary approach to history. It then outlines modern evolutionary phylogenetic methods borrowed from biology but now used extensively in the social sciences and humanities. The chapter provides examples of how language trees may be inferred; phylogenetic comparative methods that use language trees to answer questions about aspects of geographical, social, political, cultural, or economic organization; and phylogenetic investigations of material culture and traditions. It is concluded that culture does indeed “descend with modification.”

Abstract:
The chapter provides an overview of recent developments in the theology and ethics of marriage. It places the debates first in a sociocultural context of deinstitutionalization and individualization which has rendered marriage more optional and more fragile, but not weakened its symbolic meaning. It is then shown how the Christian churches have responded to the challenges of late modern society, in particular the Roman Catholic Church with its new emphasis on conjugal love at the Second Vatican Council. Three main strands have marked the theological and ethical discourse subsequently: a revisionist position which defends the subjective and interpersonal aspects of marriage, a traditionalist position which insists on a divine plan for marriage and a corresponding theology of the body, and the approach of a new generation of scholars who accuse the traditionalists of an abstract and idealistic description of the spousal relationship and criticize the revisionists for their narrow focus on private interiority. In a third and final section three major trends are explored and perspectives developed: first, possible arguments for commending marriage over alternative forms of living together are assessed; second, it is argued how heterosexual marriage can still be proclaimed as the ethical norm without discriminating against deviant forms of sexual expression; third, the tension between interpersonal and institutional approaches to marriage is explored and the search for a balance between both poles suggested as a future challenge for the theology of marriage.

Abstract:
Every year, thousands of girls and women die, often at the hands of blood relatives. These victims are accused of committing honor violations that bring shame upon their family—such transgressions range from walking with a boy in their neighborhood to seeking to marry a man of their own choosing to being a victim of rape. Women in the Crossfire presents a thorough examination of honor killing, an age-old social practice through which women are trapped and subjected to terror and deadly violence as consequences of the evolution of dysfunctional patriarchal structures and competition among men for domination. To understand the practice of honor killing, its root causes, and possibilities for protection and prevention, this book considers the issues from a variety of perspectives (epistemic, anthropological, sociological, cultural, ethical, historical, psychological, etc.) and makes use of original research—an analysis of a database of honor killing cases, published here for the first time. Specifically, the book addresses the salient traits and trends present in honor killing incidents and examines how honor is understood in sociocultural contexts where these killings occur. It illuminates socialization factors within honor-shame cultures that include gender construction, child-rearing practices, and adverse experiences that prime boys and men to take roles as one-day killers of sisters, daughters, and wives in the name of honor. In addition to this microcausal pathway, the book relies on theories of cultural evolution to explain how honor killing was an adaptation to specific ecological challenges and co-evolved with other patriarchic institutions.

Abstract:
AbstractMajority of Kenya’s citizens reside in the rural areas where wood fuel is still the primary source of energy for cooking. Continuing reliance on wood fuel against the backdrop of burgeoning population poses huge threats to the country’s forest cover, undermining capacity for climate change mitigation and adaptation. This study conducted in Machakos and Laikipia counties explored; (i) women’s perceptions of the health risks associated with dependence of firewood for cooking, (ii) women’s attitudes and perceptions towards improved cooking charcoal stoves (ICS) as cleaner alternatives to traditional firewood stoves for cooking, and (iii) women’s perceptions of barriers to adoption of improved cooking stoves. Study findings revealed that women were aware of the health risks associated with the use of firewood for cooking. However, despite these perceptions, upward trends in demands for firewood as a source of energy for cooking in the rural areas may persist in the next coming decades. Barriers to adoption of improved cooking stoves vary by sociocultural contexts. The study concludes that innovations that involve stakeholders especially participatory designs, monitoring, and evaluation of ICS might improve adoption levels. Moreover, innovations to increase adoption need to leverage on the opportunities provided by Sustainable development goal number 7 to accelerate adoption of ICS among other forms of cleaner, affordable, and sustainable sources of energy for cooking.

Abstract:
"Psychology is currently facing global challenges that with necessity lead to the emergence of fundamentally new trends and patterns in the theory and practice of personality psychology. From the point of view of theory, there is a constant rethinking of changes in the structure and content of identity - personal, sociocultural, ethnic. In practice, there are no less significant processes associated with approaches and methods in diagnostics and counseling. These changes are associated with the expansion of the virtual space of identification and self-realization. In the last year, the changes associated with quarantine for COVID 19 have become of great importance. The frustration of real space, which often connects with a narrowing of the time perspective, leads not only to an increase in the role of virtual space, but also to intensification of the role of network identity and the development of various forms of Internet communication, counseling and leisure activities. It appears that new trends will become more significant and constant in the future. Therefore, it is imperative to discuss the new forms of narrative and virtual identity, the directions for further change and their positive and negative impact on the identification and well-being of both young and old people."

Abstract:
"A central theme in the present study is the assumption that the influence on the human behavior is mediated by different internal processes in the career choice. Emotional intelligence is defined as a variable which is a cause for the relationship between personality traits and the choice of a certain career. Three causal paths to the dependent variable were tracked – a path to the direct impact of the emotional intelligence on the career choice, a path to the influence of personality traits on the emotional intelligence as well as a path to the impact of personality traits on the career choice via the emotional intelligence. The aim of the study is to show the mediating role of emotional intelligence in the relationship between personality traits and career choice. A total of 100 Bulgarian secondary and university students (42 males and 58 females), aged 17-40 years, were included in the research. The following measures were used for the purpose of the study - Trait Emotional Intelligence Questionnaire – Short Form (TEIQue-SF), The Big five questionnaire and the Big six method for career choices. The Bulgarian version of the emotional intelligence questionnaire was translated and adapted for Bulgarian sociocultural context by Antonina Kardasheva (Kardasheva, 2012). The Big five questionnaire and the Big six method for career choices were adapted for Bulgarian conditions by S. Karabelyova (Karabelyova, 2015). The results showed that there was a direct positive impact of the emotional intelligence on the relationship between the enterprising type and conscientiousness, the artistic type and neuroticism and a negative impact on the relationship between the conventional type and extraversion. The conclusions derived from the study could be used for further psychological research in the field, as well as for enhancing the knowledge of one’s personality."

Abstract:
Shifts in language presence are often predicated on the political and economic power of its users, where power level correlates with the longevity of the language. Further, during language contact, any resistance between the communities may lead to political and social conflict. The dominant language usually prevails, subjugating the weaker speech communities to the point where they adapt in various ways, processes which effect hegemonies. Language contact also motivates bilingualism, which takes effect over years. This paper suggests that, observing colonization through certain Asian countries, and centrally India, phonological influences have become conspicuous. Postcolonial contexts have selected language identities to assert local linguistic and sociocultural identities through specifying phonetic uniqueness. The study notes that economic trends alter this process, as do political factors. The study investigates how the role of English as an official language and lingua franca in India predicates the selection of certain phonetic patterns so as to legitimize identities of language communities. As such, Indian Englishes have developed their own unique varieties of language, through this process.
