Abstract:
In the article, on the basis of the culturological concept of the content of education as an adapted social experience, as well as the practice of its implementation in vocational training as purposeful and declared, the essence of its explicit, hidden and implicit components is differentiated for the first time. The leading role of the hidden content of education in the transmission of sociocultural values is revealed, which ensures the formation of the value-worldview characteristics of the personality of a competent graduate, capable of effective professional activity in the conditions of sociocultural transformations of the postindustrial era. The dynamic structure of the hidden education content is revealed, which includes communicative and subject components and which made it possible to determine the directions of its update by the sociocultural aspect. The update of the education content in the context of the growing role of the cultural factor in social development is realized through the sociocultural reflection of the transmitted social experience, for the development of which the diagnostic-forming methodology “My sociocultural values” has been developed. As a result of the update of the hidden education content by the sociocultural aspect, it is transformed into an implicit (updated hidden), which, while not being declared, but being adapted and purposeful in reflecting and translating sociocultural experience, improves the training of specialists in various directions and profiles, implements the leading principle of higher education.

Abstract:
The article deals with the problems of socio-cultural changes associated with globalization processes. The sociocultural approach explains the trends in the transformation of the sociocultural space, sociocultural environment. In the context of globalization, a paradigm of nonlinearity, locality in the sphere of sociocultural life is being formed. One of the main tools of globalization is sociocultural expansion, which contributes to the unification of sociocultural development. The combination of the global and the local in the evolution of the sociocultural sphere creates a dual situation in the anagenesis of the sociocultural space. Globality enhances the impact of liberal-modernist values. Locality favors the preservation of the influence of traditional and conservative values. The vector of socio-cultural development of Russian society has not been determined.

Abstract:
The authors consider modern sports in the context and in connection with the trends in the development of modern civilization, such as post-industrial transformations of the economy, urbanization and the humanization of public life. The main functions of modern sports are highlighted, noting that these functions were formed within the framework of the modern society. It is noted that the attribute and function of modern sports is the normalization of social life on the basis of social norms that correspond to the ethos of the new humanism. It is emphasized that in Russia, sport as a mass social practice is characterized not only by the functionality of a post-industrial society, since it bears the archaic imprint of the ambivalence that took shape in Soviet society and continues to determine the development of sports in modern Russia.

Abstract:
Risks and threats play an important role in the development of the sociocultural sphere, while risk management makes it possible to identify and predict them. In this regard, it is relevant, expedient and necessary to undertake an attempt to adapt the economic methodology of risk management to the sociocultural process by means of socio-humanitarian revision of risk management and the formation of an integrated model of sociocultural risk management based on the relevant methodology. Such a model will provide an opportunity for a more detailed approach to the process of assessing and controlling the occurrence of risk, as well as increasing the predictability of potential risk based on the accumulated scientific and practical knowledge and previous experience. The approach to the problem proposed by the author will expand the theoretical and methodological base not only of socio-humanitarian science, but also innovation, general management theory and the risk management methodology itself. The purpose of the paper is to define the specifics and main trends of risk management in relation to the sociocultural process, as well as assess the possibilities of applying this methodology for managing and preventing sociocultural risks. Basing on sociocultural and interdisciplinary approaches, risk management techniques, crisis concepts and the socio-technical landscape of digital reality, an integrated risk management model was formed in relation to the socio-cultural process. It will create an effective mechanism for predicting risk and reducing its impact on the sociocultural process, focused on solving the problems of stabilization and development of objects and processes, and can also be used as a tool in the procedure for making and implementing decisions in strategic planning and project management. Based on the results of this study, a set of main trends in risk management will be formulated in relation to the sociocultural process. The authors of the paper consider the possibilities of using this methodology for managing and preventing sociocultural risks and form an integrated model of risk management in relation to the sociocultural process in the context of a digital revolution.

Abstract:
The concept of “Sociocultural competence” is introduced in relation to the professional training of a graduate of a modern university (bachelor), the relevance of such an extension of the conceptual apparatus of pedagogy and practice in the context of contemporary sociocultural trends is substantiated. The problem of universal significance of sociocultural competence, its relevance for all areas of training of a modern specialist is determined. Sociocultural competence is seen as an integrative, over-professional, personality trait that ensures the success of professional activities in an intercultural and international environment in conditions of the globalizing world. “Sociocultural competence” is interpreted by the author as a broader concept than professional competence which cannot be reduced to linguistic competence formed in the process of students’ language preparation for intercultural communication. The objectives of the article are: to identify the structural components of the sociocultural competence of a specialist, to study the level of its development among first-year students (using the example of a university of international profile). An analysis of the structure of sociocultural competence is carried out taking into account the philosophical and psychological aspects of the concept of sociocultural modernization of education. The level of development of sociocultural competence of students is determined using a questionnaire specially developed by the author. The article substantiates the propriety of considering sociocultural competence as an indicator of the quality of professional training of a graduate.

Abstract:
PurposeEnvironmental threats of immediate risk in areas such as coastal zones (CZ) have aroused new trends of citizenship and participatory democracy. The purpose of this paper is to analyse elements within those trends, such as environmental culture, socio‐political context, dynamics of social associative movement and integration of local knowledge. It also aims to contribute to an overview of the opportunities and barriers found in considering socio‐cultural and educational challenges in CZ.Design/methodology/approachIn this analysis, case studies of integrated coastal management occurring worldwide were selected and reviewed, considering several nuances of socio‐economic and political contexts of CZ. Experiences of public response to coastal catastrophes such the Prestige oil spill in Spain, are also described.FindingsWhether implementing sustainable coastal management through either balanced systems (between large and small‐scale strategies) or through largely bottom‐up approaches, participation is detected as one of the main factors for a successful integrated approach. Principles such as participatory governance and social justice should be adopted in initial phases of sustainable management processes and preferably involve all of the implied actors of CZ.Originality/valueThe literature reviewed highlighted specific factors that have empirically contributed to participatory sustainability of CZ, integrating three dimensions of citizenship: education, society's dynamics and culture.

Abstract:
The reason for writing the article was the discussion in the regional and federal media about the «Immortal Regiment» movement. The article deals with the socio-cultural and philosophical foundations of the event. Scientifically, it is a ritual, and its content can be considered in terms of the theory of collective memory. According to the authors, as an action based on the synthesis of individual and collective memory of the participants, the movement appears to be a practical embodiment of N. Fedorov’s «philosophy of the common cause». If we extrapolate the trends considered in the article to several decades ahead, we can predict the transformation of the event into an unofficially celebrated day of all those killed in wars and disasters not only in Russia and the former Soviet Union but also in other foreign countries. We can expect an increase in the variety of interpretations of the «Immortal Regiment» movement and, as a result, emergence of various conflicts on this ground. In this regard, philosophy, cultural studies and other humanities are facing a practical task of developing a concept of the holiday that would be politically correct and resistant to multicultural influence.

Abstract:
This article analyzes the trends in international migration processes in federal districts. The analysis of state statistics (2016-2018) revealed conflicting trends in its various aspects. The results show that international educational migration in Russia has an extremely low proportion, which is only 3% of the total migration inflow. The number of educated migrants has grown by almost a third. The main contributing countries of the educational sphere are Kazakhstan, China, Turkmenistan, Tajikistan, Uzbekistan, India, and Iraq among others. At the same time, the number of educational migrants from Kazakhstan, Ukraine, and Moldova has slightly decreased over three years. The results show significant imbalances in the territorial distribution of educational migration flows in the Russian Federation. They mostly take place in the regions and the North-West Federal District (about 50% of migrants by educational institutions, Volga and Siberia — more than 30%). This means that the education system and the use of infrastructure are unlimited. This article identifies the types of dynamics of the formed clusters in federal districts, which resulted in the corresponding typology. The author has calculated the growth rate of educational migration, which is the ratio of the growth in the number of educational migrants to the increase in the total number of people who arrived in the federal district and registered as migrants. It seems appropriate that within the framework of research in the field of the modern sociocultural approach, the mechanism of redistribution of human capital should be involved. This will allow a deeper study of sociocultural factors and the consequences of educational migration.

Abstract:
AbstractThis article updates the trends and developments of Japanese as a second language (JSL) research since Mori and Mori (2011) by reviewing nearly 200 selected empirical studies published in English or Japanese between 2010 and early 2019. The first section of this review examines the cognitive aspects of second language (L2) Japanese development, focusing on vocabulary and kanji (i.e., Chinese characters transferred into Japanese) learning, syntactic development, and the issues surrounding reading and writing. The second part investigates sociocultural issues in L2 Japanese development and use, including pragmatic development, multilingual/translingual perspectives, and multilingual youth. The third section explores the role of affective variables (primarily learner motivation) in L2 Japanese development. The last section considers various pedagogical issues, including corpus-based studies and the development of materials and resources, instructional designs and classroom studies, technology-enhanced language learning and new instructional models, critical approaches to teaching Japanese and content-based instruction. The review of these themes illuminates trends and emerging areas of interest in post-2010 L2 Japanese research inspired by current developments in applied linguistics and second language acquisition (SLA) research, as well as unique features of Japanese language and sociocultural contexts.

Abstract:
Background: The objective of this study was to evaluate secular trends in domain-specific physical activity in the immigrant population in the US between 2009 and 2018. Method: A secondary data analysis from the 2009–2018 National Health and Nutrition Examination Survey; a total of 7282 immigrants in the US were included in this analysis. All domain-specific physical activity was assessed by a self-reported questionnaire. Tests for linear trends were performed to examine the trends of each physical activity time using orthogonal polynomial coefficients. Physical activity trends were assessed by the whole group and the various subgroups. Results: Total physical activity showed an upward linear trend in female (Ptrend = .04) and young adult (Ptrend = .009) immigrants. Work-related physical activity showed an upward linear trend in young adult immigrants (Ptrend = .01). Recreational physical activity showed an upward linear trend in young adult (Ptrend = .03) and Mexican American (Ptrend < .001) immigrants and in immigrants living in the US for 15–29 years (Ptrend = .02). In contrast, we observed downward linear trends in transit-related physical activity for immigrants across male (Ptrend = .04), middle-aged adult (Ptrend = .01), and non-Hispanic black groups (Ptrend = .004) and in immigrants living in the US for 15–29 years (Ptrend = .03). Conclusion: There were no significant linear trends in the 4 domains of physical activity in the overall US immigrant population; however, trends in domain-specific physical activity in the US immigrant population differed by gender, age, race/ethnicity, and length of residence. These findings may inform physical activity promotion strategies targeting US immigrant populations with diverse sociocultural backgrounds.

Abstract:
Acelerated changes are taking place in the food habits of the present day Egyptians. Examples are drawn from foods that continue to be consumed by those considered guardians of the Egyptian tradition [Coptic Christians and isolated farming communities] and from interpretation of archaeological evidence. Recent decades have witnessed the progressive erosion of the traditional Egyptian diet and the introduction of new foods and eating habits. Sociocultural and economic changes are accelerating this erosion. The main features of the traditional Egyptian way of eating are presented along with a review of the emerging trends and of some of the important factors underlying food consumption patterns. Attention is drawn to the potential risk to health that these new trends represent, in particular to child nutrition and development

This information resource is aimed at both professional figures in the field of folk music and a wide range of amateurs. The basis of the electronic map was made up of expeditionary materials from the archive of Folk Singing Art Department of Belgorod State Institute of Arts and Culture. While developing the project, modern trends in the presentation of archival materials on the Internet were taken into account, which made it possible to fully reveal the traditional culture of the region. The proposed method of presenting information allows you to maximally illuminate the musical genre composition of folk singing, get acquainted with the creative heritage of outstanding performers, as well as greatly facilitates the search for specific song samples, both among the archive materials and in existing publications.

Abstract:
The article analyzes the indicators of the budgetary financing of the sociocultural sphere in 2008–2017 based on the official statistical reports by Russian and Chinese authorities. Within the framework of structural analysis of budget expenditures in both countries, the priority of these areas for the expanded budget of the Russian Federation has been identified, whereas the sociocultural block is given only a small share in the structure of the state budget expenditures of the People’s Republic of China. The analysis of the dynamics of the budgetary spending on social and cultural events during the studied period showed a significant increase in such spending in China, with a slowdown in growth in Russia. Special attention was paid to the analysis of expenditures on the sociocultural block in the GDP volume. It was found that the Russian spending on sociocultural events in the GDP volume was gradually approaching the numbers in developed countries. This corresponds to the global trends in the leading countries characterized by increased expenditures on social protection due to the influence of factors such as the aging of the population, declining birth rates, and increasing unemployment. It is emphasized that China’s spending on sociocultural events in the GDP volume is significantly inferior to the indicators of the world’s leading economies and is aimed more at financing education, which is justified by the conditions of the “catching-up” stage. The author concludes that modern threats and challenges determine the need to adjust priorities and volumes of the state funding of sociocultural activities in China and Russia.

Abstract:
We consider the problem of reading support as one of the most relevant areas of sociocultural activity. The need for special measures to support reading is justified in connection with the growing trends in visualization and gamification of the cultural environment, and a decrease in interest in reading. Reading support is defined as a system of state, public and private initiatives to increase the value status of reading, stimulate reading activity, and develop the reading compe-tence of all population groups. We analyze the Russian and foreign experience of state support for reading, including the publication of legislative acts, the adoption of special programs, and the creation of interdepartmental coordination structures. It is shown that at the state level, reading is considered in the context of functional literacy of the population as a resource for economic growth that allows citizens to actively participate in the life of the state. The history of develop-ment of public initiatives in Russia is traced – from the creation of private typographies to the ac-tivities of modern associations and foundations. Regional Reading Centers are highlighted as a special form. Conclusions are drawn about the prospects of attracting volunteers to implement projects to increase the availability of books and reading for people with disabilities. It is shown that currently reading support is becoming systematic and is implemented on the basis of social partnership of library, cultural and leisure, educational institutions and public associations.

Abstract:
This introductory essay reviews recent debates on social history, with a focus on the revival of this field of studies in post-communist East Central Europe and its potential impact on rejuvenating approaches to the social history of Europe. The first part of the essay provides a brief overview of the emergence of social history as a reaction to the dominant political history of the nineteenth century and its crystallization in different national schools, and highlights recent responses to the poststructuralist and postmodern critiques of “the social.” The second part focuses on traditions of social history research in East Central Europe, taking Poland and Romania as main examples. The third part summarizes the main claims of the articles included in this issue and evaluates their implications for future research. It is argued that, at first glance, post-communist historiography in East Central Europe provides the picture of a discipline in transformation, still struggling to break up with the past and to rebuild its institutional framework, catching up with recent trends and redefining its role in continental and global historiography. The recent attempts to invigorate research in traditional fields of social history might seem largely obsolete, not only out of tune with international developments but also futile reiterations of vistas that have been for long experimented with and superseded in Western Europe. At closer scrutiny, however, historiography in East Central Europe appears—unequal and variegated as it is—as a laboratory for historical innovation and a field of experimentation, and interaction of scholars from various disciplines and scholarly traditions, in which old and new trends amalgamate in peculiar ways. It is suggested that the tendency to reconceptualize the “social” that we currently witness in humanities and social sciences worldwide could be not only reinforced but also cross-fertilized by the “social turn” in East Central Europe, potentially leading to novel approaches.

Abstract:
From time immemorial, society has been characterized by a specific set of values, the system of which acts as a high level of regulation.Value systems are formed and transformed in the historical development of society. In each society, the value system is determined by the sociocultural, historical, political, cultural, economic conditions of its development, trends in social dynamics, the specifics of a particular period of functioning of society with its difficulties and prospects. The system of values consists of three elements - universal, cultural and individual. This article is aimed at considering methodological approaches to the study of the education of modern youth on the basis of family values, which is included in the element of individual values. The family is one of the main life values for people all over the world and as a system is characterized by the presence of connections and relationships (marital, consanguineous and others) between its constituent elements (family members) and manifests its integrity with an indissoluble unity with the environment (sociocultural reality).Modern youth is going through the process of active formation and development in the family, therefore, in the process of adaptation to the rapidly changing sociocultural reality, they use the system of family values, adapting it to modern conditions. The axiological, personality-activity, gender approaches were also methodological guidelines in the upbringing of the attitude to family values among modern youth. Thus, family values and trends characterizing the state of the family are significant social indicators that educate today's youth.

Abstract:
The relevance of the study is due to the complexity of socio-cultural reality due to the aggravation of the contradiction between globalization and national-oriented processes, the increasing struggle of cultures, economies and ideologies, and the acceleration of scientific and technological progress. The purpose of the article is to consider sociocultural and anthropoecological distinctive features of pedagogical discourse. The author points out that anthropo-innovations, such as genetic engineering, cyborgization, cloning, integration with artificial intelligence, pharmaceutical advances, and GMO products threaten the existence of a person in his or her mental and physical integrity. The restriction of anthropological innovations is due to spiritual revival, reliance on traditional cultures, as well as the best cultural and pedagogical national experience, and is determined by the understanding of the soul as an integrating component of a person. In the Humanities, the description of an increasingly complex socio-cultural reality is closely related to its description in the context of various discursive plans. This approach is also promising for pedagogy. At the same time, modern trends in the development of the discursive approach “blur” the boundaries of pedagogical knowledge. The article presents a highly specialized definition of pedagogical discourse. During the study the following methods were applied: analysis of legal documents and scientific and methodical literature. It is proved that the pedagogical category “zone of proximal development” in its socio-cultural and anthropo-ecological contexts favors understanding of the distinctive features of educational and pedagogical discourse. It is concluded that orientation to the zone of proximal development of the individual contributes to the consistency of the socio-cultural experience, including nationally oriented components, transmitted by the teacher, with the life experience of the student, favors his or her emotional involvement in the educational process.

Abstract:
AbstractInclusion of additional dimensions to population projections can lead to an improvement in the overall quality of the projections and to an enhanced analytical potential of derived projections such as literacy skills and labor force participation. This paper describes the modeling of educational attainment of a microsimulation projection model of the European Union countries. Using ordered logistic regressions on five waves of the European Social Survey, we estimate the impact of mother's education and other sociocultural characteristics on educational attainment and implement them into the microsimulation model. Results of the different projection scenarios are contrasted to understand how the education of the mother and sociocultural variables may affect projection outcomes. We show that a change in the impact of mother's education on children's educational attainment may have a big effect on future trends. Moreover, the proposed approach yields more consistent population projection outputs for specific subpopulations.

Abstract:
The aim of the study is a comparative analysis of the socio-cultural aspect of criminal law enforcement in the Russian mentality. The methodological basis was such scientific methods as dialectical, comparative, logical, historical, prognostic, and systems analysis. This allowed, to achieve this goal, to perform a comparative analysis of the works of Russian and foreign legal experts on the examined problem. The result of the study was the conclusion that the effectiveness of law enforcement is due not only to national mentality, but also to the socio-cultural environment both on the part of the law enforcement officer and citizens as participants and/or eyewitnesses of specific legal relations. The authors also emphasize that culture, as well as socio-cultural environment forms stereotypes of legal behavior, depending on the constitutional and legislative consolidation of socio-political and socio-economic trends in the development of society. The novelty of the work lies in the formulation of the problem and its substantiation. This is due to the fact that the authors emphasize that an essential element is the degree of acceptability of value stereotypes in a particular state that allow and/or prohibit certain actions in connection with the possibility of undermining the foundations of national security and public morality.

Abstract:
Abstract Cognitive impairment is a major public health concern in the United States. Research indicates cognitive impairment is higher for older U.S. Latinos than non-Latino whites, due in part to Latinos having longer life expectancy, lower educational attainment, and a higher prevalence of diabetes and cardiovascular disease. Prior studies on cognition have largely examined “Latinos” as a monolithic group. However, Latinos are heterogeneous in composition with unique socio-cultural characteristics based on nativity and country of origin. Accordingly, we used data from the 1997-2017 National Health Interview Survey (NHIS) to document age-specific trends in in self-reported cognitive impairment among US-born Mexican, foreign-born Mexican, island-born Puerto Rican, foreign-born Cuban, and non-Latino white adults aged 60 and older. Given the repeated cross-sectional nature of these data, we estimated hierarchical age period–cohort (HAPC) cross-classified random-effects model (CCREM) to isolate age trends in self-reported cognitive impairment across Latino subgroups and non-Latino whites. Results indicate significant heterogeneity among Latino subgroups, with island-born Puerto Ricans exhibiting the highest rates of cognitive impairment and foreign-born Cubans the lowest. Conversely, US-born and foreign-born Mexicans exhibited rates in between these two. All Latino subgroups statistically differed from non-Latino whites. Socio-demographic controls account for approximately 33%-45% of the disparity, but fully account for foreign-born Cubans and non-Latino whites differences. These findings indicate the importance of considering nativity and country of origin when assessing cognitive outcomes among older Latinos. Understanding minority and immigrant differences in cognitive impairment has implications for the development and implementation of culture-appropriate programs to promote healthy brain aging.

Abstract:
Culture is a dynamic system of bidirectional influences among individuals and their environment, including psychological and biological processes, which facilitate adaptation and social interaction. One of the main challenges in clinical neuropsychology involves cognitive, behavioral and functional assessment of people with different sociocultural backgrounds. In this review essay, examining culture from a historical perspective to ethical issues in cross-cultural research, including the latest significant and publications, the authors sought to explore the main features related to cultural variables in neuropsychological practice and to debate the challenges found regarding the operational methods currently in use. Literature findings suggest a more comprehensive approach in cognitive and behavioral neuroscience, including an interface between elementary disciplines and applied neuropsychology. Thus, as a basis for discussion on this issue, the authors analyzed key-topics related to the study of new trends in sociocultural neuroscience and the application of their concepts from a clinical perspective.

Abstract:
This conceptual paper draws on a diverse selection of primary and secondary sources highlighting recent trends in international and refugee university student enrollments, participation, and outcomes in Canadian universities. Several key issues emerged through the analysis. First, refugee students and children of refugees have amongst the lowest participation and graduation rates in Canadian universities, due largely to language and literacy barriers and their status as first-generation postsecondary students (i.e., students whose parents did not attend postsecondary education). Second, although almost 60% of domestic university students are now female, international and refugee student enrollments remain male dominated. These disparities indicate that broader structural and sociocultural issues that impact university participation for members of certain groups and communities remain factors in university participation and completion. Implications for policy and practice conclude the paper.

AbstractOver 38,000 cases of hepatocellular carcinoma (HCC) are estimated to occur in Latin America annually. The region is characterized by sociocultural heterogeneity and economic disparities, which impose barriers in addressing this major health issue. A significant proportion of patients are still diagnosed in the later stages of the disease, although efforts to implement effective screening programs have been reported by referral centers. While viral hepatitis remains the predominant etiology of liver disease among HCC cases in Latin America, a high prevalence of fatty liver disease in the region is a matter of concern, reflecting the current scenario in many Western countries. In addition, other risk factors such as alcohol, aflatoxin, and early-onset HCC in hepatitis B virus infection contribute to the burden of HCC in Latin America. Interventions to increase screening coverage, expand healthcare access, and implement continuing medical training are key challenges to be overcome.

Liberal democracy, the theory of a democratic world and a number of other liberal theories today are strongly associated with the Western world and the globalization model of development. Critics of this trend draw attention to the need to take into account objective differences in approaches to the perception of democracy in different countries and sociocultural communities. Indonesia is one of the most striking examples of the distinctive perception of democracy at different socio-political levels, which manifests itself both in national ideology and in the people's consciousness. This article is supposed to consider the Indonesian approaches to the definition of democracy and their impact on the implementation of Indonesia's foreign policy in the world arena based on these basic foundations.
