Abstract:
Rapid social, economic, technological changes in the country leave their mark on each member of the society; alter their tastes, expectations, and needs. The visitors of the Yerevan American Corner are not an exception. Thus, a necessity of a detailed analysis of the visitors’ demands and behavior arises, in order to amend or expand the realm of the service, to raise the popularity of the corner and to attract more visitors. With this purpose, we offer to conduct polls and interviews among users of the American Corner, to do a specific social analysis of programs and services. Overall, 550 people will take part in the survey. The analyses will help to understand the attitude of patrons, non-patrons and random visitors towards the Yerevan American Corner (its space, resources, activities, projects, services, technical devices, and staff). This will also help to evaluate the effectiveness of current activities and services, such as clubs, courses, public talks and various meetings.

Abstract:
AbstractAs a case study in the proliferation of global rankings, we examine the initiation, construction of, and response to the Access to Medicine Index, which ranks pharmaceutical companies according to their respective contribution to access to medicine for developing countries. Since it has served as the model for constructing global rankings in the fields of nutrition, seeds, mining, possibly in the future, oil, seafood, mobile internet, and agricultural commodities, and it serves as a blueprint for the development of corporate sustainability benchmarks in line with the United Nations Sustainable Development Goals, its significance goes well beyond public health. From an economic-sociological perspective we argue, first, that rankings can be conceived as symbolic classifications that serve predominantly as market-based coordination devices. To understand the proliferation of global rankings, we argue, secondly, that they are an integral part of the changing balance of power in the domain of global public health consisting of a historical shift from international organizations as the central mode of governance and coordination to a more decentralized and diversified global field structure. This global field is formed by an increasing number and variety of actors, but lacks a central decision-making body. The case of the Access to Medicine Index suggests that a historical-sociological field perspective has analytical advantages over both the micro-analysis of socio-technical devices and macro-level approaches to issues of governance in contemporary capitalism.

The text focuses on one of the elements belonging to the surveillance society – surveillance with the use of electronic tools. The authors attempt to answer the following questions. What types of negative phenomena are produced and intensified by electronic surveillance technologies? How deep is the state of the „vulnerability” of modern societies, what are the possibilities of surveillance devices? Is it possible to practically oppose them, how and what are the limits? What is the genesis of these phenomena and what future scenarios can be sketched based on the anticipation of observed trends? A set of research questions defined in this way required both sociological and technical perspectives at the same time. The authors recognize the negative phenomena associated with electronic surveillance: escalation, professionalization, institutionalization and normalization.

Abstract:
This article is devoted to the problem of modes of interaction between parents and children in conditions of using digital gadgets. The relevance of the proposed study is that in the last few years, new media technologies are being adapted to specific groups. In recent years, the use of gadgets for parents with children of different ages is spreading. These gadgets monitor the child’s physiological parameters and inform parents about them. Using the methodology of STS, we can say that the introduction of technological artifacts in the daily life of child-parent relations gives rise to the problem of disentanglement - increasing the number of technical intermediaries of interaction. These gadgets, like any other technological device, are a part of the “embodied ideology”. This means that technologies outstrip the development of the users’ interests, their attitudes, motives and practices in a particular way, direct and prescribe actions to their users. The study was funded by RFBR according to research project No. 18-011-00692 Parenthood in the era of “smart things”: a sociological analysis.

Abstract:
Introduction. The development and application of medical robotics, medical robotic devices, automated technical systems in the field of health care are already quite successful and have great potential. Such large-scale technological changes inevitably actualize the social roles of law, that should properly settle, protect and guide the development of nascent social relations, which until recently occurred everywhere in a kind of regulatory vacuum. Material and methods. The methodological basis of the study included general scientific methods (dialectical, logical, systemic, historical, sociological, statistical) and private scientific methods of legal science (formal-legal, historical-legal and comparative-legal). The empirical basis of the study was Russian and foreign regulatory legal acts and law enforcement practice, as well as legal doctrine. Results. Based on the comparative legal study a legal definition of the medical robots and various options for their classification, among them a special one, including surgical robots, robots used in restorative medicine, rehabilitation of immobilized patients, nursing and care robots, have been developed. Cyborgs are biological organisms containing mechanical or electronic components are allocated to a special group. Legal mechanisms for ensuring security and cybersecurity in this area are highlighted. The necessity of more flexible legal regulation of personal data concerning the health of citizens and medical confidentiality under new technological conditions is justified. Discussion. Legal regulation of the medical robots should be of a staged nature. General norms of sectoral significance can be formulated at later stages. At the moment, it is more rational to direct efforts to determine the legal regime of certain types of created artificial intelligence systems in the healthcare sector. Conclusion. The legal concept of robotics in healthcare should take a significant place in a wide range of scientific studies of the development of new technologies for the benefit, not to the detriment, of a person.

Abstract:
The article discusses the problems that arise in connection with the crimes against state and public security committed by use of computer and network technologies. This topic is becoming relevant because some states have already experienced the effects of combat computer viruses, which can be regarded as waging war using cyber weapons. The most famous example is the attack by the Stuxnet computer virus on an Iranian uranium enrichment plant. The virus was created specifically to disable industrial control systems. The use of unmanned ground and air vehicles to carry out terrorist acts is of particular danger. The Russian military in Syria is constantly confronted with terrorist attacks: the Khmeimim aerospace forces base is regularly attacked with unmanned air vehicles - drones. Terrorist acts with the use of computer and network technologies are no less dangerous. The destructive potential of cyberterrorism is determined by the widespread computerization of state and public life, the implementation of projects to create smart cities, including smart transportation, as well as the intensive development of the Internet of things. The purpose of the article is to analyze new criminal threats to state and public security, as well as to study high-tech ways of committing crimes such as sabotage, terrorist acts, and other crimes of a terrorist nature. The cost of their consequences for society is very high, and criminals do not always need to attack social objects directly - it is enough to spread panic among the population using online media, social networks and websites of authorities of various levels, after obtaining illegal access to them. The article describes some of the techniques already used to commit crimes of sabotage and terrorism. The authors draw attention to the priority of cybersecurity both for engineers of devices with elements of artificial intelligence, and for lawmakers who should pay attention to methods of technical forecasting when developing legal norms aimed at prevention of new ways of committing such crimes. When writing the article, the authors used a wide range of Russian and foreign sources of legal, statistical, sociological and other information. The authors used such research methods as analysis, synthesis, deduction, induction, formal legal method as well as comparative legal method.

Abstract:
One function of language is to communicate substantive information, but that is not its only function—sometimes not even its primary function. The criminal and drug class adopt an argot unintelligible to law abiding citizens, and that cipher function is one of the purposes of that language. Teenagers of any era adopt a vocabulary that shows that they are hip or hep or with it or cool. Such languages are often rich in metaphor and at their root poetic. It is fascinating to investigate these elusive and protean sub-languages, because they demonstrate with modern instances how language has evolved and how it continues to evolve. Our present focus, with technical sub-languages reveals sociological functions of language that transcend mere transfer of substantive information. Technical language would seem to be at the opposite pole from criminals' argot or teenagers' cool slang. We might expect it to exhibit that so-called purer function of transferring information, little affected by sociological factors. Nonetheless, we find one sociological feature, the shibboleth, acting widely throughout technical fields. This is our current topic.

Abstract:
This thesis is about sociological and technical devices of communication. From the observation of mediatics practices from teenagers, and more specifically their enunciatives productions on two different devices, represented by blogs and newspapers produced at school, the comparison of language materiality enabled us to approach this corpus of utterances with a scientific process. The theme of love was retained as the more unifying to rally both devices and take an interest about teenagers’ productions. Our analyze made up some convergence points between these devices, reflecting the existence of discursive practices specific to teenagers, but it also rose some differences in terms of discursive conditions, enabling to approach the communicative specific practices related to each situation, according to the constrains and possibilities offered by each device. The first part of analyze was dealing with speeches in terms of thematic and genre to see which kind was privileged on which device. The second part of analyze is more centered on enunciative specificities, by the analyze of acting configurations and enunciatives modalities. Thus, the newspaper is a device under institutional context, inspired by traditional models but also by awill of originality and a community dimension in order to strengthening ties between scholar collectivity. Blogs is a more opened space, giving the freedom of publication and privileging more individual discourses, more interactive, and more centered on blogger’s self-experience. Between semi-public and semi-private expression, the blog, as a personal space, helps identity and personal construction of teenagers. To conclude, our work highlights efficient practices of writing and reading from teenagers, more or less distant from traditional and scholar model, but which proves their willingness of expressing and spreading their discourses

<p>The aim of the thesis is to investigate how teaching devices, with focus on ICT use are regarded in education. I make comparison with teaching without technical devices, but emphasize the teaching with such devices. I address questions concerning what technical devices are used and in which way these devices may enhance the education process. In addition, in which way the devices influence power and communication.</p><p>The methods indicate a deductive-abductive approach, observations, interviews, and questionnaires. The theoretical framework focuses, Linguistics, Pedagogy, cognition, and Informatics. The results-part is built up on two cases – one concerning teaching with technical devices, the other concerning teaching without those devices. The results imply that the schools of Sweden use computers and Internet in a very ‘common’ way. However, there are intentions to use cell phones with software to assist the teaching. By this approach, that would be possible to add an additional time to the lectures since the pupils and teachers can work outside the classroom. One problem with technical devices is named ‘noise’, which are things in between the ‘useful’ (technical) devices and issues around that can decrease the learning process. In addition; if the goal is to have a symmetrical relationship between teacher and pupil, it may be difficult without taking carefully account on the (technical) device in use, and perhaps regard them as cognitive tools. From what I found, the tools are not regarded as cognitive.</p>

Abstract:
Our study has explored how university students at the Technical University of Mombasa, TUM, in Kenya consume news. The aim of the research has been to get a snapshot picture of what the consumption look like in a time and context when the development of Internet Communication Technology, ICT, has increased rapidly in a short period of time. Our empiric data has been collected through three different methods. First we approached the area of the Technical University of Mombasa with an ethnographic method. Then we went on with an in-depth interview with one of our key informants before handing out a survey to collect quantitative data to analyse. Through theoretical framework rooted in the theories of Digital divide and New media we interpreted our data to be able to answer our research questions. The results show that the use of the smartphone is widely spread in order to consume news among students of TUM. Money is still a big obstacle for the majority of the students in our population in how they can access news through technical devices. The gap between those who can afford and those who fight with financial issues is still large. Our study confirms that the gap in the digital divide is still big but we could read signs telling us that the gap maybe is about to shrink.

Abstract:
In recent years, Distributed Generators (DGs) and energy storage devices have gained more popularity due to growing energy and environmental concerns. Interconnection of DGs and storage devices in an electricity grid impacts its performance under steady state and transient conditions. This research aims at analyzing the impacts of distributed generators and energy storage devices on the transient stability of the grid. Battery and ultra-capacitor technologies have been taken as the two types of storage devices and their electrical characteristics have been modeled using Simulink. Impact of these devices has been analyzed by connecting them to the system by means of suitable power electronic converters. The developed methodology has been evaluated using small test systems in MATLAB/Simulink. Transient stability of the test systems has been assessed for different types and locations of faults as well as for different penetration levels of the DGs, with and without the energy storage devices. Impact on the system transient stability has been analyzed based on transient response of the generator rotor speed deviation, rotor angle and terminal voltage of the DGs. Finally, economic analyses have been carried out for different options of DGs, based on wind, diesel and biomass, along with the energy storage devices. Results indicate that the presence of DGs and storage devices enhances the transient stability of the system in most of the cases.

Abstract:
This study explores the human and technical limitations of looking and seeing. It proposes a model for design that expands technical sight toward harmony with our human notion. It proposes a model for design that expands technical sight toward harmony with our human notion. This study is guided by the phenomenological experience of being expressed primarily by Heidegger as well as neuro-physiological research on the mind and body relationship by Ramachandran, Sacks Nicolelis and Damasio. It examines, in two paths, the technical developments that seek to alter or enhance our ways of looking and seeing. The first path is an assessment of ways of looking with optics-based cameras that includes how cameras might be set to look, how they behave in looking and how they translate that look into an image on display. The second path is an assessment of the image in varying states of readiness which include the capture state, state of rendering (for view) and state of display. The study uncovers the various ways that images are translated to be seen, and how sight and ocular vision might be detached in the process of imprinting what is seen in the imagination. It includes key examples of modern image device capabilities, makes suggestions about how the framework of this study can be applied in specific cases and predicts the state of image devices in the future.

This thesis presents a mechatronics master degree project held at Tritech TechnologyAB by two students from The Royal Institute of Technology (Stockholm, Sweden). It covers a study of the future agenda with IoT (Internet of Things) and the devel-opment of an evaluation framework for designing end devices in IoT systems. Thethesis also presents the leading technical solutions for IoT end devices and a toolfor choosing among available technologies. Lastly, the thesis reports from an in-depth study on power consumption and battery life-span of the two communicationtechniques BLE (Bluetooth Low Energy) and Thread.Data has been collected from literature studies by published authors, company pa-pers and from interviews with experts in the area. This data contributed to thefuture agenda prognosis, the generated evaluation framework and the collected tech-nical information. The attributes constituting the design guidance tool were statedbased on the evaluation framework. The in-depth study was carried out by runningthe two technologies on development boards where data on power consumption wascollected. The future prognosis of the IoT development was found to include 20-50 billiondevices by the year of 2020. The largest design areas appear to be within vehicleindustry, safety systems and home and city automation. Obstacles for the develop-ment seem to be a question about safety and how companies are to create a clearbusiness case out of it. Seven different subgroups of metrics were found constitutingto an evaluation framework and seven communication technologies with compatiblehardware form the basis for the developed design guide tool. In the in-depth study, data on power consumption for BLE and Thread were collected during a simple caseof sensing and transferring temperature data.<br>Denna avhandling presenterar ett examensarbete inom mekatronik gjort på TritechTechnology AB av två studenter från Kungliga Tekniska Högskolan (Stockholm,Sverige). Abstract:
This paper presents some experiences on the teaching of kinematics and robotics in Mexican universities. A short sociological background information together with generalities about the curricula of mechanical and mechatronics engineers is shown. After that, the contents of two courses Mechanisms and Robotics are presented in detail. Finally, three unrelated examples of learning aids design and the introduction of more advanced mathematical tools to the study of kinematics of machinery and robotics are discussed. Nevertheless, the examples show the effort to overcome some of the deficiencies of our incoming engineering students.
