Abstract:
The author uses the data of sociological researches conducted at the Institute of sociological research of the Russian Academy of Sciences for two dec-ades, one of the tasks of which was to study and analyze the attitude of individuals, groups and sec-tors of the population to the ongoing socio-structural changes in society. The research materials made it possible to analyze the features of the for-mation of new layers and groups in the modernizing Russian society and trace the change vector in their relationships. Secondary analysis of the obtained data allowed the author to identify several condi-tional periods of development of the Russian social system. The basis for highlighting these periods was the respondents' opinions on the criteria of social group membership in the modernizing Rus-sian society, on the relationship of new social groups, as well as the nature of the respondents' behavior strategies in the changed conditions of life. The author considers social and structural transfor-mations as a consequence of the general moderni-zation of the Russian social system.

Abstract:
Purpose This study aims to analyse the impact of e-paper on many existing industries including paper, publishing, book distribution, display, handheld device manufacturers and content service providers. Flexible display has been studied by many institutes, firms and market research companies. Some believe that e-paper is an exceptional application for flexible display, and the need for flexible display development for handheld devices and cloud-based e-book content is indisputable. Design/methodology/approach This study uses the Delphi technique and STEEP (Sociological, Technological, Economic, Environmental and Political aspects) with a panel to analyse a business model and the opportunity for the development of e-paper in Taiwan up to the year 2020. Findings The study concludes that e-paper content and customised digital services are an essential part of e-paper development, while hardware and cloud data are no more than a mechanism to show, compute and store data. Thus, whether the screen of a handheld device is flexible may not be of importance. Although e-paper will affect the display industry, it will not substitute for handheld devices and traditional bookstores. Originality/value This research can be used as a reference for government, academics, industry and international investors.

Abstract:
In this article, we intend to show how critical editing of texts has changed over time and how philologist-editors have taken different critique, politic and social attitudes in the task of editing texts, taking into account their interests regarding the editorial project to be developed, the idiosyncrasies of the materials that make up the archive corpus, the commitment to the text and the reading that will circulate at another point in our history (literary and dramaturgical), among other aspects arising from the examined textual situations. We briefly discuss editorial theories and methodologies, seeking to show how the ecdotic method was transformed from the 19th to the 21st century, outlining contemporary philological practice in two aspects: platonic (teleological) and pragmatic (sociological) in paper and electronic support. To illustrate and comment on the editorial practice of 20th-century texts, poems, short stories, and above all censored theatrical texts, we bring a synthesis of the work developed within the Institute of Letters from Federal University of Bahia, in the research group that I coordinate, considering the editorial models adopted (digital facsimile, synoptic-critique, interpretive, critique, genetics, critical-genetics, electronic/digital [hypertextual archive or hyperEditing]), according to the critical, philological, genetic and sociological approaches. Also, we consider that critical-philological studies point to a particular theme selected by the philologist for weave comments and criticism.

Abstract:
The purpose of this article is a theoretical and methodological analysis of strategic planning of the united territorial community in conditions of decentralization of power and local self-government reform. The methodological basis is the general aspects of the economic theory and theory of public administration. Methods of research are based on general scientific and special methods of cognition. System, structural and evolutionary approaches are used to identify the essence of the categories "territorial community", "the capacity of the territorial community" and "strategy of development of the territorial community"; the methods of analysis and synthesis allowed to reveal the peculiarities of strategic planning of the development of the united territorial communities, the abstract-logical method was used for theoretical generalization and formation of conclusions. The main aspects and results of the research are applied in the educational process in the development and teaching of normative and special courses "Economics and Governance", "Decentralization and development of territorial communities", "Public-private partnership" at the V.I. Vernadsky Taurida National University for the master's students Public Administration program. The scientific novelty is as follows: 1. With the addition of systemic, structural and evolutionary approaches, it is found that the definition of the term "territorial community" should take into account historical, territorial, ecological, sociological, selfgoverning, economic and political aspects. The concept of "capacity of a territorial community" is defined as the ability to perform the functions entrusted by the legislation directly to the community and local self-government authorities to ensure its life and development. The configuration of the capacity of the territorial community was substantiated, its components (internal and external capacity) were clarified. 2. The principles and stages of strategic planning of the development of a united territorial community under conditions of decentralization of power and local self-government reform, which are important for the success of the strategic planning of territorial development are considered. It is proved that the principles should be considered in close connection with a certain stage of the strategy of the development of the united territorial communities. The algorithm of strategic planning of the development of a united territorial community based on the principles of strategic planning of sustainable development of territories is proposed. 3. It is grounded that the effectiveness of the strategy of the development of united territorial communities depends to a large extent on the way of its development. Practical experience in creating strategies in Ukraine has identified five methods for developing strategic plans for the development of territories, of which the long-term partnership method (three partnerships between government, community and business) with the participation of experts is most effective. This description of each method is given, their strengths and weaknesses are determined. 4. It is grounded that in the conditions of the reform of local self-government the issue of formation of updated (project) competencies of local self-government employees becomes relevant. At the present stage, the demand for a new style of thinking of managers is being formed, the continuation of which is an updated organizational culture of management, the traditional qualifications of today's local government officials are not enough to work in new environments where the project becomes a leading tool for change, achievement of goals, funding unit and one the main means of attracting additional resources to the united territorial communities. The main results can be used by public authorities and authorities, local government authorities, research centres and institutes, and higher educational institutions (proposals for the organization of strategic planning of the development of united territorial communities through institutions of mediation of power, business and community).

Abstract:
In the paper some aspects of social problematic and consequences of the COVID-19 pandemic are considered under the angle of sociological approaches. In particular these are the issues of institutional capacity and efficiency of government in facing the pandemic, the problems of actualization of biopolitics and of social inequality, social psychological challenges of the pandemic. It is argued that the global consequences of the pandemic imply the shifts in the configurations of basic societal values and regulations such as freedom, responsibility, security, civility, equality, trust and solidarity. Administrative regulations, restrictions and lockdown during quarantine are not only measures that are justified by the protection of security and public health, but also certain tests by the governments of the thresholds for the perception of strict social control. Based on the analysis of the results of sociological research, in particular by the Institute of Sociology of the National Academy of Sciences of Ukraine, the features of the coronavirus crisis in Ukraine are outlined. These features are due to the fact that in Ukraine universal social challenges of the pandemic are combined with the country’s multifactorial social transformation. Thus, the social consequences of the COVID-19 pandemic in Ukraine can manifest themselves in two ways: as a negative catalyst that exacerbates the problem of uncompleted social transformation or as a kind of "equalizer", that is the factor in which the values of security, social survival, tolerance and solidarity will become a priority.

Abstract:
The paper focuses on the main factors forming public attitudes towards local authorities in Ukraine. The way that a person thinks and feels about a particular politician, an elected official or a local administration largely determines his/her voting behavior ― hence the relevance of the research topic. Local governments are responsible for delivering a wide range of services to citizens; therefore, it makes sense to analyze the citizens’ satisfaction with the quality of (and access to) certain services and compare these figures with the overall attitude to local authorities (which can correspond to a respondent’s evaluation of the authorities’ work in general). The findings of a recent (September–October 2020) nationwide survey titled “Ukrainian society: Monitoring social changes” will constitute an empirical basis for the analysis. The survey, which is annually conducted by the Institute of Sociology of the National Academy of Sciences of Ukraine, involves measuring respondents’ satisfaction with a number of items related to the performance of local governments (with regard to the respondent’s place of residence). These items include utility service quality, road conditions, the availability of playgrounds and sports facilities, the work of a local police department, the availability and quality of services provided by preschools and schools, the quality of healthcare services, etc., as well the ability of local authorities to respond to the demands of ordinary citizens. The survey participants are also asked to evaluate the work of a local administration or a city/town mayor. The data of “Ukrainian society” for the year 2020 show that the majority of this country’s population felt totally or partially dissatisfied with local public services (except for those offered by preschools and schools), and they did not consider local governments responsive to people’s demands either. Besides, many respondents gave a negative evaluation to the overall work of local administrations. Drawing upon these data, the author concludes that there is a link between a person’s satisfaction or dissatisfaction with the quality of local public services and his/her positive or negative attitude towards the local authorities. It is suggested that the obtained results be taken into account when analyzing other aspects concerning local governments (e. g. a respondent’s trust in governmental institutions), especially if the respondent is not inclined to express his/her opinion openly. Special attention is also given to resident surveys as a tool for improving the well-being and quality of life for citizens and communities.

The purpose of this study was to determine the implementation of learning evaluation management in improving the quality of graduates at the Palopo State Islamic Institute. This type of research is descriptive qualitative, with pedagogical, juridical, and sociological approaches. The objects in the study were academic implementers and students, and the instruments used were observation guidelines, interview guidelines, and documentation. The results showed that the learning evaluation management at IAIN Palopo consisted of planning, organizing, implementing, and evaluating programs. At the planning stage, the academic side prepares every need for learning evaluation, then holds the schedule by referring to the academic calendar and arranges the place for lectures, at the evaluation stage, the UTS and UAS are supervised by a lecturer or lecturer who teaches the subject in question. Constraints in learning evaluation management include; the incomplete several course material so that it affects planning; besides that, some students who have not received a score in the previous semester (comprehensive examination), in the organizational aspect, some lecturers are late in entering exam questions. Some have even tested the material but did not provide information to the study program/faculty, aspects of the facilities that have less influence on organizing learning evaluation. Obstacles in the implementation of the evaluation are the lack of student preparation in facing exams, the existence of cheating by students during the exam, and the constraints on program evaluation, namely the absence of a set time in evaluating the program.

Abstract:
The article presents a review of the activities of the scientific school of sociologists of the Urals in the direction of "sociology of youth". The authors note the historical dynamics in the development of youth sociology, its gradual embodiment in the organizational and scientific structure in the form of scientific conferences and Ural sociological readings. The Ural sociological school paid special attention to the problems of youth – the research of this group began in 1973, and ten years later the problem of sociology of youth became one of the most important links of scientific activity of the Ural sociologists. By the end of the 20th century, the problem of the study of youth has become large-scale, began to study a variety of aspects of its activity, and the Committee on Youth Affairs and the Ural Institute of Youth were established in Ekaterinburg. The concept of youth itself is not unambiguous, leading sociologists of the Urals – Yu.R. Vishnevsky, V.T. Shapko point out a number of difficulties in the interpretation of this concept associated with the problems of the integrity of the generation, its systemic quality and diversity of properties of people of this social group. In this regard, various approaches to the study of youth were developed, which allowed to identify their specific features. In this article, the authors dwell upon such aspects of the study of youth sociology as values and value orientations, their relationship to the economic and socio-cultural situation in the country. Dynamics of values of the Ural youth over the period from 1999 to 2016 is monitored. The researchers discuss the phenomenon of the working student, study how the dynamics of full-time student involvement in child labour, its motivational attitudes, communication of work produced with the major obtained in the University, and the problems caused by the combining of these two activities. The study undertaken analyzes the state of modern higher education in its interpretation by leading sociologists of the Ural scientific school. The attention is focused on the school of G.E. Zborovsky, who devoted his science activity to the problems of education, especially higher education in Russia, highlighting a number of problems that allowed to conclude about the lack of a successful system of higher education in Russia.

Both are important resource centersfor the study of Islam in Southeast Asia and are closely connected withLeiden University, which has a formidable reputation as a centuries-oldcenter of learning in Islamic and Asian studies. Publications like the presentone show that academic institutions with roots in the colonial past andwhich were once part of the now much-criticized scholarly tradition of“Orientalism” can reinvent themselves and continue to make valuable contributionsto the study of non-western cultures.Transcending Borders focuses on the phenomenon of Arab settlementin Southeast Asia. Although the role of these migrants in the Islamizationof the Malay–Indonesian archipelago has long been acknowledged, questionspertaining to their integration into Southeast Asian society and theresulting impact on their ethnic identity have received far less attention. Abstract:
Purpose – The purpose of this paper is to explore whether there are differences in either the level of support for the mandatory adoption of International Financial Reporting Standards or the arguments made by various stakeholder groups within Japan’s Business Accounting Council (BAC) during different time periods from 2009 to 2013. Design/methodology/approach – Using a content analysis of related BAC meetings and referring to Gernon and Wallace’s (1995) accounting ecology framework, this study provides rigorous and holistic insights into the debates concerning the adoption of IFRS in Japan. Time-series analyses are specifically applied to unravel continuous or discontinuous patterns of BAC members’ statements. Findings – The results indicated significantly higher levels of disapproval of mandatory adoption of IFRS by representatives from accounting academics, manufacturing industry, and the Financial Services Agency than by those from the Japanese Institute of Certified Public Accountants. Also, a lower level of disapproval of mandatory adoption of IFRS was found in 2009 than in 2012 and 2013. The results further demonstrated that diversity of opinions and arguments existed in different stakeholder groups as well as in different time periods. Research limitations/implications – The findings of this study suggest that accounting research will be enhanced by an objective and critical examination of the sociological context of the globalization (convergence) process. Originality/value – The results of this study will provide answers related to the possible, probable, and desirable aspects of the globalization (convergence) process by unraveling the causes and consequences of certain patterns presented in BAC members’ statements.

Abstract:
In the crisis conditions of modern Russia, a young family (an object of the research) faces many problems and is unable to cope with them alone. Of particular importance for a young family is family-related assistance determined by the social parameters of territorial community and national characteristics of socio-cultural cohesion. The purpose of the research is to substantiate the role and potential of family-related assistance in overcoming the crisis of the Mordovian young family in the countryside. The novelty to the solution of the problem is based on objective and subjective aspects of the functioning of the Institute of assistance in various subsystems of family relations (for example, parents and young rural families). The most significant role in determining the methodological approaches of the study had the concepts of development of a young family. Among them there are crisis, modernization and system. The formation of the theoretical analysis of the research problem also considered the scientific positions of scholars who study the determination of the characteristics of family life by regional-settlement, cultural, and ethnic factors. For following methods were used for this work: general analysis, synthesis, comparison, generalization, interpretation, system method, and secondary analysis of empirical data. The research was based on the questionnaire, and sociological survey of young spouses and their parents. As a result, the demand for the traditional role of the Mordovian parent family in helping and supporting the young families is empirically proved. It showed the influence of family-related assistance on the success of a young family, as well as the value orientations of young people in the field of family and family relations. The study showed that family-related assistance in Mordovians is a traditional and popular social institution. The subculture of family-related care includes characteristics of timeliness and diversity, is based on kinship and/or property, is universal and dynamic.

Abstract:
This article is devoted to the study of the results of the sociological state of the domestic justice system. The relevance of the study is due to a number of fundamental factors. First, justice is an integral and integral part of the ontological basis of any civilized society. It is called upon to serve society as clamps and ensure its internal stability by reducing the level of antagonism and fair resolution of conflicts. Secondly, justice as the key value of society works on protecting its ideals and the idealization of society itself, serves as a motive for self-criticism and a mechanism for self-improvement. Thirdly, according to the level of independence and independence of the justice system in the modern world, it is estimated the development of society and its institutions, the culture of its goals and the values professed. By virtue of the noted fundamental factors, the Laboratory of Political and Legal Research of Lomonosov Moscow State University was developed, and the Russian Foundation for Basic Research supported a scientific and sociological project to obtain objective and reliable information about the state of the domestic justice system. At the same time, a new feature of the project was the proposal to explore the topic “from the inside”, in contrast to other projects, to generalize and analyze the opinions of the main subjects of justice on the level of their own independence and independence as the center and structure-forming elements of the system. Thus, the fundamental scientific task of research is in the knowledge of the “internal” laws of the functioning of the domestic justice system and the mechanisms for its adoption by the main representatives of law enforcement decisions in Russian realities. In this regard, for the first time, an attempt was made to conduct a focused and full-fledged study of the state of independence of law enforcers through clarification of their internal well-being and attitude to power, public opinion, the media, their own leadership and professional environment. Taking into account the task, specialists initially developed a set of indicators for measuring the state of independence of investigators, prosecutors and judges, as well as criteria for assessing the level of pressure on them and interference with their procedural activities. Then, a large-scale sociological survey of officials at various levels, directly carrying out the law-applying functions in the system of judicial authorities of the Russian Federation - judges, prosecutors and investigators. According to the results of the analysis and formulated findings of the survey. As part of the survey, more than 800 law enforcement officers of the Russian Federation were interviewed: judges, prosecutors and investigators from different regions of the country. The author has formulated conclusions on the results of the study.

Abstract:
The definitions of the institute and the institutionalization in the different fields of science (scholarship) vary. Specifically this refers to the understanding of the institutionalization of the mass media, whose activities are greatly dependent on the authorities. In Ukraine, such dependence has been particularly salient during the last time. The article aims at studying the existing definitions of the institutions of both social phenomena. An analysis of the institute of comparison and interpenetration of media and power as a social communication сoncept has been offered. A concept of institutionalization of the mass media is analyzed in terms of content structure and personal freedom of journalist. Specificity of several specialized aspects of media institutionalization in the context of the existence of different types and forms of competition and cooperation between universal and specialized publication sand journalists are analyzed. Different subtypes of journalism and relevant social trends, as well as a degree of interaction between professional and commercial dimensions of journalistic sphere are analyzed. It is emphasized that debates on mass media institutionalization focus on two dilemmas: the «journalist-professional» and «the journalist-ordinary member of society». Such discussion relates to the social significance of the problem and to professionalism of the media and journalists. The authorities can reduce social importance of institutionalization of the mass media, as well as they can downplay it purportedly. But social institutionalization of the mass media does not disappear because of the whims of the current authorities. We argue if the current Ukrainian authorities took into account the main factors of the institutionalization of the media and the correlation between journalistic and social practices, it would make fewer mistakes in its work with the media (which cannot be destroyed by institutionalization). The followup studies on the research problem outlined in the article are to study definitions of institutionalization of social and communication characteristics of cluster institutions: legal, economic sociological and so on. Socio-communicative understanding of the concept of the institution in its modus operandi will enable systematizing knowledge about institutionalization of many social phenomena that serve the mass media. Abstract:
Introduction. Nowadays, digital education is one of the priorities of state policy in modern Russia. The Federal Institute for the Development of Education has developed a draft didactic concept of digital education to maximise the potential of digital technology (DT) in vocational training. Nevertheless, while policymakers and education managers are aware of the need to move to a new level of digital technology implementation, there are challenges to this process. The technological resources of educational environment have been increasing intensively in the past decade, and their intensive scientific and pedagogical development is observed. However, little attention is given to the willingness of teachers to work with continuously evolving technological tools. The aim of the research is to identify the barriers, which hinder the professional development of teachers in mastering information and communications technologies (ICT) and digital technologies, as well as some mental attitudes circulating in the society and slowing down the process of digitalisation of vocational education.Methodology and research methods. The present research is based on personal-context and personal-development approaches. In the course of experimental research and two pilot studies, teachers and specialists of professional educational organisations were interviewed (n = 187 people). The methods of questionnaire-based survey, sociological analysis, statistical data-processing tools and Google Forms tools were used. Results and scientific novelty. On the basis of the outcomes of the conducted surveys, the following aspects were analysed: the degree of teachers’ skills formation declared in the professional standard; willingness to implement e-learning, expand the range of ICT and GT included in teaching practice; respondents’ attitudes towards the digitalisation of education and their self-recognition in this process. Clear and invisible obstacles to the process under discussion are identified and sistematised. The found barriers are classified into risk, image and didactic barriers. The recommendations to overcome the barriers are proposed. According to the authors of the present article, it is advisable to introduce a new specialty “digital engineer-teacher” due to the obvious integration of pedagogical and engineering functions into the activities of teachers. Working in one team consisted of a specialist, who designs an effective teaching environment, and a teacher-didactist, will reduce a part of unjustified functional workload of the latter.Practical significance. The materials of the undertaken research have significant implications for further development of perceptions of the essence and content of digital didactics; justification and formation of optimal conditions for digitalisation of vocational education, including psychological and pedagogical adjustment of the system of training and retraining of pedagogical and managerial personnel for the digital economy.

Abstract:
The identification and assessment of risk factors are facilitated by law administration and enforcement. Decisions of the judicial authorities constitute one of the directions. In this regard, first, the analysis and generalization of judicial practice show the range of problems of various aspects of activities, and second, it allows forming a model of suppressing or minimizing legal risks. Sociological research conducted from 2008 to 2020 by the Department of Healthcare Organization and Medical Law of the Regional State Budgetary Educational Institution of Additional Professional Education “Institute for Advanced Training of Healthcare Professionals” (Khabarovsk) revealed that these specialists had no idea about the number of litigations in so-called “medical cases”, or about the amounts recovered on claims of patients to medical organizations of the Khabarovsk Territory. Meanwhile, having information on the quantitative and summary indicators of court cases, it is possible to adjust interaction with patients at both pretrial and trial stages. The study aimed to analyze and summarize judicial practice in these cases, to selectively examine defects that served as the basis for filing claims and had an impact on the amounts recovered, as well as to form practical recommendations for the prevention of legal risks in the activities of a medical organization, based on a regional model. The relevance of the problem of legal risks of medical activity is shown from the standpoint of analysis and generalization of judicial practice. The article provides a statistical analysis of court proceedings on claims of patients for compensation for material damage and moral harm to medical organizations subordinate to the Ministry of Health of the Khabarovsk Territory. A selective examination of the claims of patients is executed considering the impact on the reasons for legal recourse and the total amount recovered. Practical recommendations for regional healthcare institutions are annually formed and approved by the Minister of Health of the Khabarovsk Territory based on the results of the study.

Abstract:
The article is devoted to the transformation of the institute of family and family values in the conditions of globalization of the neoliberal type. The purpose of the article is to describe the process of reinstitualisation of a traditional family into a nontraditional one and the relevant changes of family values. Specifies that understanding the social necessity of the family as a social group in order to meet the needs of society in the physical and spiritual reproduction of the population is not a sociological, but a demographic characteristic. The necessity to distinguish the social function of the family from the demographic is substantiated. The first is to recreate the social structure and socialization, and the second - in the reproduction of the population. The article compares the information of Eurostat and World Values Survey 2017 with the results of all-Ukrainian sociological research conducted from July to August 2017 by the Center for Independent Sociological Research «Omega», commissioned by the Ministry of Youth and Sport of Ukraine, «Youth of Ukraine – 2017» and «Ukrainian Generation Z. Values and Landmarks» –by GfK Ukraine, commissioned by the New Europe Center. As a result of the comparison, the following conclusions are made: the transformation of the family institution in Ukrainian society slowly reflects pan-European tendencies. But if for Ukraine this can be considered as a trend, then for European countries - as a natural process, during which there were significant mental changes. It is noted that the transformation of family values should be considered in the context of relevant legislative initiatives that are associated with the process of re-institutionalization of family relations. It is emphasized that the traditional institute of the family is based on natural-historical laws, in accordance with which family policy is built up. On the basis of an analysis of the reasons for the transformation of the traditional family institution into untraditional one, described in the well-known bestseller of the American sociologist and futurist E. Toffler, "The shock of the future" (Future shock, 1970), an attempt was made to justify the role of state policy in the process of deinstitutionalisation and reinstitutionalization of the family . It turns out that the main reason for the emergence of a non-traditional institute is the increase in state spending in support of the traditional family. This circumstance is interpreted as a loss to be reduced. A married man has to support a family, not a married one, only himself. If somebody allows to stay in extra-marriage, crippling and disorderly sexual relationships, including the same-sex, the family institution loses its meaning, and the economic damage should be greatly reduced. The social energy of individuals begins to be spent not on the solving of social problems arised at the junction of intergroup relations, but in searching of a sexual partner and the protection of the right of free searching. Freudian sublimation begins to act here as a protective mechanism for the removal of internal energy, which is generated in support of the social injustice of the existing social system, but redirects to the achievement of the right to freedom in choosing a sexual partner. Consequently, sublimation is transformed from sexual to sexual-legal-political type. It is determined that the formation of the emancipative system of values in the modern Ukrainian society takes place under the influence of a number of factors of globalization, state-political, socio-cultural character. Particular attention is paid to the fact that the Ukrainian youth, according to all-Ukrainian sociological research, prefers the socio-cultural significance of the family and traditional family values. The results of the study can be implemented in courses of sociological disciplines and the deployment of new areas of sociological research. Foreseeable assumptions about the development of the research object are finding the best ways to preserve traditional family values and the family's institutes in the modern society.

Abstract:
The unprecedented increase in the intensity of cross-border interactions in the modern world is emphasised, and the necessity of sociological monitoring of these processes is substantiated, the precondition of which is the creation of an appropriate methodology and methods. The stages of formation of theoretical sociology with particular attention to the genesis of cross-border interactions are considered. It is found that the main milestones in the formation of modern methodological principles of sociological analysis of this phenomenon are the post-classical stage of development of theoretical sociology (according to G. Zborovsky’s periodisation), the methodology of social constructivism, spatial turn and mobility in social development. The work of J. Urry’s sociology of mobility is considered, and its application to the Ukrainian realities is offered. Models of state regulation of cross-border mobility as one of the types of cross-border interactions, defined as the model of “gardener state” and “forest state”, are analysed. It is emphasised that these models had an explanatory power concerning the nation-states of the modern industrial era, but in the era of globalisation distort the understanding of central social processes and phenomena. The author analyzed the views of foreign and Ukrainian researchers on the methodological aspects of research on cross-border interactions. The systematic methodology of cross-border research, proposed by S. Ustych, is used and proposals for its improvement and implementation in research practices are formulated. The author’s position on methodological bases of sociological study of cross-border interactions as a differentiating and solidifying factor is offered.

Abstract:
A comparative analysis of the results of two paired sociological studies of the Russian academic community in the Siberian Branch of the RAS (SB RAS) in 1992 – 1994 and 2015 – 2016 was carried out. The first study was realised at the institutes of the Novosibirsk Scientific Center (NSC SB RAS); the second again at the Research Institutes of the NSC SB RAS, as well as at the academic institutes of Tomsk, Irkutsk and Krasnoyarsk was carried out. The main method: in-depth structured interviews focused on the problems of (a) professional adaptation of “ordinary” scientists and (b) reactions of the institutes and laboratories to radical changes in state scientific policy. A comparative analysis showed that despite the different goals and results of implementing scientific policy in the early 1990s and in mid-2010s, the scientific community often demonstrates the same, in fact, “response to threats” expressed in the professional behavioral strategies. These strategies are conservative and situationally non-adaptive. Management of research institutes strives to maintain the “status quo”; they aim, if possible, not to change the structure of professional relations, the directions and subjects of researches. This testifies to the inert structure of academic science and science management, which aims to maintain the main organizational components that were laid down in the Soviet 1930s.

Abstract The relationship between science and religion has recently become the topic of intense discussions in the public sphere. However, up to now empirical social sciences have neglected qualitative reconstructions of scientists’ worldviews in this area. The material for my analysis is 50 in-depth interviews with biologists and physicists, employees of scientific research institutes of Polish Academy of Sciences and universities in Poland. The largest group of the respondents agreed with the idea that the areas of science and religion do not overlap. Besides, the majority of Polish natural scientists including a little less than half of all non-believers demonstrates aversion to the conflict narrative. My study reconstructs narrative strategies of the respondents that refer to the science-religion interconnection.

Abstract:
It has become increasingly acknowledged that the social and psychological consequences of leaving epilepsy may be more debilitating than the seizures themselves. Recently these psychosocial aspects of epilepsy have become the emphasis of much research, and different models for understanding psychosocial consequences have become evident. In this article recent research has been reviewed and has been classified as belonging either to a medical model or a sociological model of understanding these psychosocial aspects of epilepsy. Both models have been found to assist in understanding psychosocial aspects of epilepsy, with the ‘newer’ sociological approach acting as a challenge to the hegemony of the older, more traditional medical understanding.

Abstract:
In 1965, the Institute for Jazz at the University of Music and Performing Arts (then the Academy of Music) in Graz started to build a reputation as a pioneer in jazz education in Europe. Upon the establishment of a separate Institute for Jazz Research in 1971, the institution was able to position itself as an academic centre with a focus on both artistic practice and the academic study of jazz; as such, it also inspired other jazz programmes across Central Europe. This article discusses the determining factors and socio-cultural conditions for the development of the Jazz Institutes in Graz and analyses aspects of professionalisation, internationalisation and outreach activities both local and international. The leading personalities in the institution's history are introduced, and their activities from 1965 to 1980 are described. After an overview of the Institute's current state, the article discusses internal and external conflicts and criticism of the Institute's activities, artistic orientation and status. Research for this article was compiled as part of the FWF research project ‘Jazz & the City: Identity of a Capital of Jazz', conducted at the University of Music and Performing Arts in Graz from 2011 to 2013 under Prof. Dr Franz Kerschbaumer

Abstract:
AbstractSeveral space agencies and exploration stakeholders have a strong interest in obtaining information on technical and human aspects to prepare for future extra-terrestrial planetary exploration. In this context, the EuroGeoMars campaign, organized with support from the International Lunar Exploration Working Group (ILEWG), the European Space Agency (ESA), the National Aeronautics and Space Administration (NASA) Ames Research Center and partner institutes, was conducted by the crews 76 and 77 in February 2009 in The Mars Society's ‘Mars Desert Research Station’ (MDRS) in Utah. The EuroGeoMars encompasses two groups of experiments: (1) a series of field science experiments that can be conducted from an extra-terrestrial planetary surface in geology, biology, astronomy/astrophysics and the necessary technology and networks to support these field investigations; (2) a series of human crew-related investigations on crew time organization in a planetary habitat, on the different functions and interfaces of this habitat, and on man–machine interfaces of science and technical equipment. This paper recalls the objective of the EuroGeoMars project and presents the MDRS and its habitat layout. Social and operational aspects during simulations are described. Technical and operational aspects of biology investigations in the field and in the habitat laboratory are discussed in detail with the focus point set on the polymerase chain reaction (PCR)-based detection of microbial DNA in soil samples.

Abstract:
This paper attempts to present a brief overview of several Research Data Management (RDM) issues and a detailed literature review regarding the RDM aspects adopted in libraries globally. Furthermore, it will describe several tendencies concerning the management of repository tools for research data, as well as the challenges in implementing the RDM. The proper planned training and skill development for all stakeholders by mentors to train both staff and users are some of the issues that need to be considered to enhance the RDM process. An effort will be also made to present the suitable policies and workflows along with the adoption of best practices in RDM, so as to boost the research process in an organisation. This study will showcase the implementation of RDM processes in the Higher Educational Institute of India, referring particularly to the Central Library @ NIT Rourkela in Odisha, India with a proposed framework. Finally, this study will also propose an area of opportunities that can boost research activities in the Institute.

The field of special education is entering a multiparadigmatic stage, which the authors argue is a positive development in that multiple paradigms of inquiry provide unique perspectives capable of illuminating aspects of persistent and heretofore intractable problems. the authors describe four major paradigms adapted from burrell and morgan's (1979) sociological paradigms, focusing specifically on work currently under way in the field within a critical interpretivist paradigm. methodological and substantive implications for special education are discussed.

Abstract:
Scholarship on criminal careers and desistance from crime employing longitudinal methodologies has paid scant attention to sociological and anthropological debates regarding epistemology, reflexivity and researcher positionality. This is surprising in light of a recent phenomenological turn in desistance research wherein (former) lawbreakers’ identity, reflexivity and self-understanding have become central preoccupations. In this article I interrogate aspects of the methodological ‘underside’ of qualitative longitudinal research with criminalized women through an examination of the surveillant position of the researcher. Focusing on methods, ethics and power, I examine some contradictions of feminist concerns to ‘give women voice’ in research involving re-tracing an over-surveilled and highly stigmatized population. I reflect on the effects of researcher positionality through a conceptualization of re-tracing methods as, at worst, a form of sociological stalking.

Abstract:
Sociological research during the interwar period was meant to be a way through which the country could be known better, in other words, to make the Romanian realities better known, especially through monographic research, initiated by sociologist D. Gusti, considered to be the starting point of the Romanian Sociological School. After the achievement of the national ideal through the Great Union of 1918, a new ideal was necessary, that could complete the former. The nation was in the process of finding itself. The social problems of the country would be understood by knowing the country. All the enthusiastic forces were called forth to help to raise awareness of the nation, which were to become part of the monographic research teams: school teachers, priests, secondary teachers and professors, doctors, agronomists, mayors and praetors, members of the community centres, and even “the superior religious and civil rulers of the Nation, cultivating an Ethics and a Politics of Truth.” This study presents some aspects of the activity of the Community Centres in the rural area, the presence of the Royal Student Teams and the compulsoriness of the Social Service in the villages.

Abstract:
In this article I share and discuss a poetic work of experimental sociological crime fiction titled “You Will Have Your Day in Court” (in Crockett Thomas, 2020c). In it I reimagine the “true crime” story of “King Con” Paul Bint, who for a period in 2009 successfully impersonated Keir Starmer, the then Director of Public Prosecutions. I first introduce my collaborative approach to writing sociological crime fiction, connections to poststructuralist philosophy and conceptualisation of research as a process of translation. After sharing the piece, I discuss thematic aspects of the work, such as the popular fascination of fraud, desire for explanations for criminal acts, and the narrative constraints placed on people who have experienced criminalisation. I also consider stylistic elements including use of narrative voice, characterisation, and narrative structure. I hope that this article is of interest to scholars aiming to marry poststructuralist thought with an experimental approach to writing sociological fiction.

Abstract:
AbstractDespite the traditional independence in academia between the science and social science traditions, science is, essentially, a social pursuit, intertwined with social conditions, structures, and processes. If science can be pictured as a form of human cultural activity, practiced by people called ‘scientists,’ then it should be regarded in sociological terms. Given the rapid growth of science in Asia, more sociological studies are thus needed there to unravel the interplay between science and society, and how scientists do science. The present study reports the findings of in-depth open-ended interviews with scientists in various universities and research institutes in Singapore. The overall research question was: How do scientists in Singapore do their work in a social world? The underlying questions were designed to explore the social complexity of scientists’ work. The findings showed that the workings of science were drawn together, and directed by, non-science elements. They included the market, which controls research agendas and fashions; economics, which determines the availability of funding and encourages collaboration; bureaucratic administration, which provides the resources available to do science; and fashions, which persuade researchers to pursue topics considered acceptable by their peers. The associations between science and non-science are also not harmonious. Various tensions were reported in the interviews. What can be done to remedy the colliding worlds of science and non-science? The answer lies in more sociological studies. The sociological study of science is a relatively new item on the academic agenda, and there is a paucity of research in the Asian context. This study identifies several avenues for further enquiry, and serves as a primer for further research.

Abstract:
In the training of medical personnel, determining the need for specialists with medical education is necessary. Furthermore, the future of the health care industry depends on those professionals who will soon fill the labor market. In this regard, the issues encountered in the optimization of personnel policy are relevant, e.g., solving the problem of discrepancy between the number and structure of personnel to the volume of activity, which is considered as an imbalance in the structure of doctors: nursing staff. Improving the professional orientation toward the personnel needs of practical health care is necessary. In the process of creating models for professional orientation, fixing the staffing situation regarding primary health care in the area of general medicine should be considered, focusing especially on the establishment of social order in terms of training specialists at public expense. Furthermore, one of the models (market) involves the choice of specialty and labor route specialist. The partnership of medical educational institutions with pre-university training institutions is relevant, when cooperation is based on a contractual basis approved by the health and education authorities of the region.
