Full textThis thesis deals with the process of valorization of national daily newspapers on the two-sided market of the press (readers and advertisers) and considers the role of the edition activity in the creation of value. The analysis of the activity of “press workers” (writers, editors, managers, commercials in advertising agencies) aims at describing the production of an hybrid good, both informational and advertising, of which final characteristics result from operations of qualification and valuation of contents, and from editorial and technical operations that transform editorial projects into edited products. The observation of editorial work and edition systems uses in daily press newsrooms shows a process of rationalization of the conception and production of newspapers. Editors want to master this process in order to reinforce their control of edition and valorization of newspapers, but industrial rationalization does not guarantee firms profitability in a changing market of informational goods. To face uncertainty of newspapers valorization, editors take action on the editorial position of papers and on the work of edition done by editorial staff, and they engage the development of cross-media newsrooms. The activity of contents edition is at the heart of the value chain of newspaper, but the evolution of cultural practices and the transforming media landscape put in question business models of newspapers and challenge work practices as well as representations of occupations in newsrooms

Full textThis thesis aims at seizing the relationships between the critiques and justifications regarding industrial food from a sociohistorical perspective, while paying special attention to the promotion of the “natural”. Today, a number of foodstuffs sales arguments outline qualities that can be considered as answers to critiques. The main objective of this dissertation is to show the production, the diffusion, the circulation and the process of endogenization or “digestion” of the critique by the food industry. The fieldwork focused on the contemporary food market through the construction of an advertising campaign and a corpus of food product sales arguments. Four corpuses of publications by key actors of the food system are then thoroughly studied: alternative dieticians, nutrition scientists, weekly general audience newspaper journalists and sociologists specialised in food. Between the late 1960s and the late 1970s the critique against industrial food spread. During the 1980s, it lost power and tended towards “domestication”. In the middle of the 1990s however, following a number of food crises, the critique regained considerable strength while, simultaneously, seeing its “domestication” broadened and institutionalized

Full textThis research investigates the relationqship between speech and reality, analysing the place and the function given to reality (and its objects) within speeches. Debates on architecture as well as the rhetoric of some architectural projects have incited us to study the architectural speech and its thematical technique. This comes down to the way architects summon up the technique but also economical and social issues in their argumentation and in their negociation to achieve architectural projects. Therefore, we investigated the written corporate architecture by studying a set of articles reporting architectural realizations, in order to compare the descriptive and narrative logics. Within these texts, we identified the tensenesses between the logic of the objet and the logic of its causes, the narration of space and the narration of events, the thematic of creation and the thematic of usage. As it questions the ways to describes and tell, non only buildings but the enterprise as well, its products, its machines and its men, this research fits into a pragmatic approach to architectural design

Full textHow can be explained the gap between organizational changes as they are implemented and the results obtained ? How do processes of change come about ? A strategic post in a time of renewed performance requirements, industrial maintenance at the Renault company has been subject to extensive developments. These developments which affect both the professional category of maintenance and manufacturers, interact with the more global developments which deeply affect the Renault company. The implemented managerial policies contribute to the structuring of working situations in the workplace and in modifying previous working relations. These policies are reciprocally transformed within the very dynamics or these situations, via working practices and social relations. The production of change is not restricted to the way policies are taken into account in the workshops. Change is also produced though relations between central services and production plants. It is linked as well to the heterogeneity of the logics and perceptions which are part of the design, implementation and reception of managerial policies. The social production of change is not reducible to the way changes are planned

Full textThe main subject of this thesis is based on the body's and the culture's reification. The concept, as the Hungarian philosopher György Lukács (1885-1971) defined it, means that anything, which is and occurs, is turned into the abstraction of value, which one is represented by goods. So, this work, in a multidisciplinary and multireferential way, focuses on the close links between the body and “the fact of knowing” when we look at the concrete totality in the course of the capitalism modernity. The development sets out to analyse with a critical eye the “exemplary cases”, these “analysers” that constitute the Nazi's Regime, the body's industrialization, the sport's body as well as the higher education in its contemporary link to knowledge
