Abstract:
Noopolitics is a neologism that designates how minds (nous) come to think collaboratively at the scale of populations, a phenomenon facilitated by increasingly sophisticated information societies and their capacity for instantaneous electronic communications. Noopolitics complements the already well-established term biopolitics, which designates how the lives and deaths, and general health and well-being of individuals are managed at the scale of populations through practices of governance. What happens when a noopolitics rigidifies, what kinds of effects does it produce? A dogmatic Image of Thought understood as an ossified status quo takes hold, over-determining how people think together and about themselves, and about their worlds, including their local environment-worlds. In relation to an expanded understanding of the spatialities of feeling that architecture contributes to, this essay will focus in particular on the noopolitics at work in the production of architectural imagery where it becomes indistinguishable from real-estate imagery. The compelling case this essay will address is the emergence of the styled real-estate image in the Stockholm context where a large proportion of rental properties have been quite abruptly released onto the real-estate market place over just the last ten years. What is remarkable about the flood of images that have been made available for consumption is their consistency, even their homogeneity, and while Stockholm, with a focus on the inner city island of Södermalm, may prove to be a special case, what is aptly demonstrated through a noourbanography that attempts to map these images is how a dogmatic Image of Thought has taken hold that drives what a local population comes to expect in terms of the curation of their homes and local neighbourhoods.

Abstract:
The office of European Ombudsman was created by the Treaty of Maastricht. The first Ombudsman, Jacob Söderman, began work in September 1995. To judge by the number of requests for materials and interviews that the office receives, particularly from students, academic lawyers are well aware of the existence of the European Ombudsman. There is also a growing body of literature about the office. Many practising lawyers, however, remain uncertain about the scope and functions of the work of the European Ombudsman. This is partly because the concept of an ombudsman is not always well understood, even by specialists in public law. This article will explain what an ombudsman is, the relationship between the European Parliament and the European Ombudsman, and the nature of the latter’s work. The aim is to persuade colleagues working in the field of European public law that the office of the European Ombudsman is well worth monitoring.

Abstract:
For a child, the school is like a separate “state” in which they are fully educated and influenced by a variety of environments, including aesthetic education. The significance of the environment in which the learner lives, matures, and creates has been found to be enormous. In Lithuania, there is a well-established “package” of environmental requirements for general education schools – educating, safe, functional, ergonomic, aesthetic. This article analyzes the relationship between the aesthetic education environment of the school and pupils’ artistic expression. Is it possible to develop the artistic self-expression of pupils in schools when creating an environment for aesthetic education? And is this a problematic question? The purpose of this article is to reveal the link between the aesthetic education environment of schools and pupils’ artistic expression. The following methods were used in the article: (1) an analysis of educational documents and scientific literature and (2) a review and comparative analysis of the realized projects. The educational document analysis method was used to review and analyze Lithuanian educational documents on school education environments. The analysis of educational documents on the educational environment of schools has led to the conclusion that a great deal of attention is paid to the ergonomic, functional, and aesthetic planning of educational spaces. The aim here is to create high standards for school education. The creativity of students, as well as the contribution of artistic self-expression, are identified as important aspects in creating an aesthetic education environment. The link between the creation and development of such an environment, and the involvement of the educational process participants in the creation of such spaces are emphasized. The creation of an aesthetic education environment in schools is more associated with visual and applied art.In applying the method of scientific literature analysis, this study includes a review of research conducted by Lithuanian and foreign authors about various school education environments, the influence of school education(s) on pupils’ learning, the aesthetic relationship of pupils with school education and the aesthetic education of schools; links between environmental and artistic activity are established. This article discusses the peculiarities and possibilities of modernizing the educational spaces of Lithuanian schools. After the analysis of scientific literature on the educational environment, it was concluded that the topics of the school educational environments were relevant to Lithuanian and foreign scientists. The environmental impact of school education was proven on the basis of a multi-faceted study; the concept of an aesthetic education environment has been revealed, its significance for personality development emphasized. The conclusion is that the aesthetic educational environment of a school can influence the formation of the students’ aesthetic attitudes. The active artistic expression of pupils can be provided by educators with certain conditions for their activities, or pupils can develop joint initiatives contributing to the creation of an aesthetic education environment. After discussing the modernization of the educational spaces of Lithuanian schools, an important link was identified between the creation of educational spaces and pupils’ artistic expression. The analysis of educational documents and scientific literature scientifically substantiated the link between the aesthetic environment of a school and pupils’ artistic expression. Examples of certain “dream school” projects in Lithuania and abroad were analyzed using the sample review method. This article contains an overview of the Lithuanian Primary School of the Veršvų Gymnasium in Kaunas (2018) and the Balsių Progymnasium in Vilnius (2011). Chosen for the review of foreign schools were the “Wish School” in Sao Paulo, Brazil (2016), We Grow and Blue School Preschool and Elementary Schools in New York, USA (2018), Lake Wilderness Primary School, Washington, USA (2017), Heart in Ikast International School and Multifunctional Center in Ikaste, Denmark (2018), Vittra Brotorp, Vittra Telefonplan, Vittra Södermalm School in Brotorp, Stockholm, Sodermalm, Sweden (2011–2012).An overview of architectural examples (analogues) implemented by Lithuania has revealed that Lithuanian architects can perfectly design schools that are modern, technologically equipped, ergonomic, etc. In the reviewed examples (analogies), the learning environment is safe and modern; they promote communality, creativity. The corridor system and the “four-walled” classrooms were retained in the design of Lithuanian schools. Pupils are encouraged to create and to participate in the creation of an aesthetic education environment through visual and applied art. Artistic self-expression is promoted by dancing, musical activities, and the like. Communality and a variety of after-school activities are promoted. An overview of architectural examples (analogues) implemented by foreign countries has revealed the latest architectural trends in global school design practice. It is noted that the design of new school buildings has been important for cities, societies, and education for decades. In many cases, the design process of the schools discussed was developed in conjunction with the needs of the community and adapted to the local architectural context. In the examples of foreign countries discussed, the functional zoning of premises was combined with modern design, educational principles, and the latest technologies. School interiors have been designed with a new concept of education and learning in mind. When designing the school spaces, it was emphasized that students are active subjects and space changers. In some of the examples of the discussed schools, the idea of a “class without borders” has been implemented. Non-formal seating, colorful furniture, and bright-colored walls are accentuated. Classrooms are modern and flexible and easily adaptable in accordance with the educational needs of the pupils. A diversity of activities, communication, and an atmosphere of creativity are promoted. Common spaces are easily adaptable and inspiring. Pupils’ artistic self-expression, curiosity, and the aim to “awaken” creativity are encouraged. Functional zoning allows students to work successfully together and independently. Attention is paid to communality and a diverse spectrum of activities. An overview of implemented Lithuanian and foreign architectural examples (analogues) has revealed the connection between the aesthetic environment of a school and the artistic expression of the pupils: 1) Students are encouraged to create and participate in the creation of an aesthetic education environment through visual and applied art; 2) Music, dance, and self-expression are promoted in school spaces; 3) The community is involved in the school design process.By comparing Lithuanian and foreign (analogous) examples, it may be stated that Lithuanian schools are well-planned and meet high standards. The interior spaces could be more colorful and playful. In the cases of foreign (analogous) countries, internal spaces are more characterized by informal seating places, vibrant and colorful furniture and walls. The corridor system is more boldly eschewed, and the concept of “classes without walls” is implemented.

Abstract:
On 11 October 1935, the inauguration of the Slussen urban cloverleaf took place in front of the excited citizens of Stockholm. It had the attributes of a pure traffic machine taken from the most advanced traffic engineering publications, and it expressed the optimistic cultural modernism that five years ago the Stockholm International Exhibition had promoted.1 This urban cloverleaf was made of translucent glass, reinforced concrete, metallic handrails, and reflective tiles and was meant to solve, in one single gesture, the complex urban link between the Lake Mälaren and the Baltic Sea, between Gamla Stan – the historic city centre – and Södermalm – the southern district built on top of the 35-metre-high plateau [1]. The solution made difficult urban compromises between the foothills of the Brunkeberg topography, the smooth water surfaces of the Stockholm archipelago, the architecture of the historic urban tissue, and the demands of a complex articulated mobility. Boats, goods, suburban trains, subways, trams – later buses – pedestrians, cyclists, and automobiles finally converged on this place at different levels, completing the intricacies of a threedimensional geometry which, for the first time in history, was inserted into a compact city.

Abstract:
Study Park: Södermalm The right to education is one of our most valuable and should be seen as such regardless of a person’s age. However, the status of adult education in Sweden tends to be lower than that of other forms of education. Venues where the teaching takes place are often outdated and ill-fitted for their purpose. Study Park: Södermalm is a proposal for a new study building dedicated to adult education with the aim of becoming an important symbol for adult education and raising the status of the study form. Study Park: Södermalm is located in Fatbursparken in Södermalm, Stockholm, where it together with the building Oscar I:s Minne forms a new knowledge centre. Courses and seminars will be held both daytime and evenings in the Study Park's many lecture halls of varying sizes. An openness characterizes the building and the spacious communication areas also fill the function of self-study rooms for university and college students in the city. Placing oneself in a public area entails a major responsibility. With the ambition to give something back to the people already on the site, the lower floors are made public with access to an exhibition hall, theatre activities, a restaurant, study guidance, conference rooms, group rooms, computer rooms and a projection room. Parts of the building can be adapted to expo halls at major events. Open and available study rooms ensure that the building is continuously active and bring life and movement on the site.

Abstract:
Today, on the Swedish house market there exist many apartments that go on sale each day. Because people generally want to get a better grip on the final price of apartments, there is a need for an analytic tool that can empower individuals to make an informed decision when selling or buying. In this thesis, we present a model that can be used as a complimentary tool to predict the final price of apartments on Södermalm, Stockholm. The data that the model is based on is gathered from the broker firm Södermäklarna. The underlying model depends on variables such as living space, number of rooms, area, among other important factors. The result shows that almost all of these aforementioned variables are statistically significant in the model. Furthermore we show that the standard error of the entire regression model is about 12% and that two of the most important factors are living space and number of rooms. We also show that in some cases, by just adding a room to an apartment, it can raise the final price substantially. We conclude in this thesis that the model is capable of predicting prices on apartments to some extent. But considering the standard error we conclude that there is room for improvement, one way of doing this is to add more observation objects and variables.

Abstract:
The idea for this preschool started with an investigation of the location, with an inventory of its history and present. In the 16’Th century a summer estate called “Ekermanska malmgården” was established here, and the remaining attendants buildings are the next-door neighbor to the location for this project. This historical building is hidden on a remote blind alley, and is taken care of by a local history society on a low budget. Malmgården has a lush garden with old oak trees and behind this area we find the railway. In between the garden and the area set for the preschool we also find a small, old fashioned wooden dance floor, built in the seventies. One part of the assignment was to designate a complimentary use for the preschool-building. With the historical findings and consideration to the surrounding needs, the idea of dancing for joy, as a social activity, came into focus. This is not a dancing school, no classroom adapted for dance is needed because the whole outdoors is made into a dance floor, complete with a small stage, which also replaces the previous dance floor structure. The plan is to open up this space for various uses during evenings and holidays, social dancing, children’s plays, small concerts or other gatherings. It also provides an excellent playground for the children in the preschool, and gives opportunities for small shows and holiday celebrations. The desired feeling and atmosphere is for this complex to be like a public recreation space – to initiate connections, amusement and social dancing for all ages!

Abstract:
A complex plot Making a proposal for a Komvux building located in Fatbursparken on Södermalm in Stockholm, is a challenge. This plot is located in the midst of were a multitude of scales and styles converge, a delicate and central urban context well known for it’s postmodern housing palace by Ricardo Bofill, but also infamous for its problems with drug dealing  and its ambiguous green space in front of Bofill’s housing complex. The park is very well integrated in the urban fabric, but still somehow, perceived as a backyard and space to pass by, not to stay in.  Technical aspects The technical premises for the project couldn’t be neglected now the tunnels of the just finished Citybanan and the mainline, passes right beneath the plot. The possible load bearing zones have dictated the premises for this project when it comes to placement, the amount of floors and choice of construction and materials.  Sequences in the city I’ve wanted to mend the park by trying to fulfil the geometry and the sequence of rooms that is experienced when walking the passage between the metro station Medborgarplatsen and the commuter train station Södra Station. By doing this, creating a more clearly defined spatial experience when passing through the park. Oscar Is Minne The structure is also supposed to relate to a certain structure on the plot. Oscar Is Minne is a former Home for the widowed of the less well-to-do from the higher classes, built during the end of the 1900th century. The building is marked as class blue – notable building, which means it’s to be preserved in its original shape even though its use will change over time and can’t be altered with. In this project the use of the building is assumed to be administration for the Komvux. I want put on display the connection between this renowned building and my addition by letting them get as close as possible to each other. A framework structure is therefore used to reach for Oscar Is Minne’s southern wing entrance without placing load on top of the tunnels. The cantilever effect keeps it afloat above the surface.  Learning environment and a space with identity When it comes to the learning environment, I’ve tried to create  a building that allows for grown ups to come and study on a high-school level without making them feel like they’ve failed earlier in life. Trying to achieve this has raised questions about informal spaces for studying as well as space syntax. The building is divided into three floors were the first two floors are public or semi public, dominated by the life in between the red framework. The third floor consists of conventional class rooms that allows for conventional lectures and seminars led by teachers. The narrow corridors and the lack of space for just hanging out, forces students to move down on the second floor, where they meet to study, relax and have lunch or coffee. This duality creates a building that fills its purpose by providing contrasts in space and organisation of the program. The red framework floor becomes a signature space both within the city as well as a signature space within the school. The ambition is that the feeling of this being an unique space with a clearly defined character, trumps the notion of it being a space for adults to study high school courses.

Abstract:
This project proposes a new building for a concert venue on Södermalm in Stockholm. An area especially affected by the current trend that venues for experiencing contemporary music live are being shut down and driven away from the inner city, due to everything from complaining neighbours to making room for more profitable businesses. The idea for the project sprung out of the sudden closing of the venue Debaser Medis, whose facilities was removed when the building it was situated in was to undergo major renovations. The purpose with Varvet was to create a new venue in a freestanding building, independent from other businesses, and giving contemporary music a more articulated place in the city. The project also includes the re-purposing of an adjacent existing building to facilitate a cafe and bar as well as functions supporting the daily business of the venue such as offices, practice rooms and a small workshop.

Abstract:
The city of Stockholm is in a phase of expansion. A growing population does not only increase the need of a more responsible usage of land areal but also the need of a high functioning infrastructure. Due to this development a lot of large-scale projects including work in direct and in close contact to rock have been performed or are currently underway. This demands a great deal of knowledge on the certain rock-types involved in said projects and therefore thorough geological investigation takes places before any project can start. This study will focus on two of these areas where a lot of infrastructural activity in rocks have taken place during recent years. Examination area one is in Stocksund and contains data that was maintained in connection with the expansion of the power grid called project “City link”. Area two is located in Slussen, Södermalm where the information comes from the major reconstruction of the traffic juncture. Since several investigations and surveys have been conducted, old data from earlier projects has proven useful for this study. The study aims to investigate previous faults and their sense of movement in the area. In order to do so, drill cores from each site have been analyzed in order to find sense indicators that can provide information about the fault. Slickenside is a kinematic indicator that can be used for this. Each area had one drill core and in each of them five slickensides were identified and examined further.

Abstract:
In cities around the world, lanes and parking lots are being converted into areas for walking and recreation. The dominance of the car and road traffic is questioned and life on foot is allowed to take over. Walking has crucial role in the vibrant and sustainable city. To create space for pedestrians, however, a design is required that attracts visit and recreation through pleasant environments. When transforming traffic environments into pleasant living environments, the traffic network in the city needs to be adapted to a more car-free lifestyle and the challenges of traffic need to be solved in other ways. Each place has its own conditions, which affects the result. Götgatan on Södermalm in Stockholm is a main street and an important link between north and south. The street has a long history and has changed several times. Today's street has large flows of pedestrians, but at the same time the cars take up a large part in the street space. This report aims to investigate the extent to which the street can be made more pleasant for pedestrians by removing car traffic. Criteria for pleasant street spaces and car-free traffic planning have been studied and led to the realization that the surfaces need to be redesigned for the purpose. Site inventory of southern Götgatan and an interview with an official from the city of Stockholm provide a basis for assessing what is possible to do on the location. The analysis shows that a full-scale pedestrian street from Folkungagatan to Ringvägen is difficult to implement without negative effects distressing the rest of the district. The width and length of the street make it difficult to motivate a pedestrian street. The conclusion is that less extensive measures can add the values needed and that seasonal pedestrian streets can be an alternative that does not have too much negative effect on accessibility.

Abstract:

Abstract:
Stockholm is growing and that in turn requires new buildings. The free surfaces of Stockholm decreases and Stockholm City are trying to find new ways to improve the city. The property Gulbetan is located on Södermalm in connection with Ringvägen and Vitabergsparken. Today the site is used for parking and recycling which makes the place dismal and it does not fulfill its full potential. This thesis leads to the final draft documents for the property. Documents are produced along a thorough site analysis, which in turn results in a building with a shop on the corner of plane 0, sheltered housing on floors 1-2 and apartments on floors 3-7. Even a pedestrian area created between the parks Vitabergsparken and Lilla Blecktornsparken. The idea of the architecture throughout the project has been to create a new clearance of Ringvägen, with a stylish building that is timeless.
