The critical micelle concentrations (CMCs) of alkaline earth metal dodecyl sulfates have been determined in the presence of alkali metal dodecyl sulfates, cholic acid, ammonium chloride, and sodium citrate—key ingredients commonly found in various cough syrups. Two key observations emerge from the data obtained. First, the presence of these additives leads to a decrease in CMC values. Second, the efficiency of CMC reduction follows the order: sodium citrate > cholic acid > potassium dodecyl sulfate > sodium dodecyl sulfate > ammonium chloride (NH₄Cl) > lithium dodecyl sulfate. T

Sodium octadecyl sulfate (C18H37SO4Na) induces a negative zeta potential of metal oxides at very low surfactant concentrations as compared with shorter-chained sodium alkyl sulfates. The problem of low solubility of sodium octadecyl sulfate in water was solved by the addition of the surfactant to dispersions as ethanolic stock solution, but then the presence of ethanol in dispersions was inevitable. We demonstrate that the concentration of ethanol (up to 5% by mass) in a dispersion containing titania (TiO2) and sodium octadecyl sulfate has an insignificant effect on the zeta potential of parti

Abstract Microbiologically Induced Corrosion (MIC) is a complex problem facing global concrete sewer structures. Despite the substantial efforts made, MIC of concrete sewers remains a significant challenge. Concrete is susceptible to corrosion induced by microbial species which convert the main binding agent Ca(OH)2 to CaSO4, leading to the disintegration of concrete, loss of strength and structure failure short of its predicted life. Concrete specimens were prepared with corrosion inhibitors and immersed in sodium sulfide and sulfuric acid solutions for more than 400 days. The concrete sample

Abstract:
During the granting period, we performed the following projects: Firstly, we differentially measured glucan content in several pleurotus mushroom strains. Mushroom polysaccharides are edible polymers that have numerous reported biological functions; the most common effects are attributed to β-glucans. In recent years, it became apparent that the less abundant α-glucans also possess potent effects in various health conditions. In our first study, we explored several Pleurotus species for their total, β and α-glucan content. Pleurotuseryngii was found to have the highest total glucan concentrati

Abstract:
In this study, a headspace technique was developed for the determination of some volatile chlorinated hydrocarbons i.e, methylene chloride, chloroform, carbon tetrachloride, 1,1,1-trichloroethane and trichloroethylene in water samples. Various factors having effect on the percent recovery were studied and evaluated. The temperature of 60ํC equilibration time of 60 minutes, the liquid to gas phase volume ration of 30:30 in 60 ml serum vial, 1.50 ml of injection volume, and salting out with 13.00 g of anhydrous sodium sulfate were chosen as the optimal headspace analysis condition for the determ

Abstract:
Juab Valley is a north-south-trending basin in the eastern Basin and Range Province. Juab Valley is bounded on the east by the Wasatch normal fault and the Wasatch Range and San Pitch Mountains, bounded on the west by Long Ridge and the West Hills. Juab Valley is at the southern end of Utah’s Wasatch Front, an area of projected rapid population growth and increased groundwater use. East-west-trending surface-water, groundwater, and water-rights boundaries approximately coincide along the valley’s geographic midline at Levan Ridge, an east-west trending watershed divide that separates the north

Abstract:
This report summarizes discharge and water quality monitoring data for the Snake River and Jackson Lake reservoir levels in Grand Teton National Park and John D. Rockefeller, Jr. Memorial Parkway for calendar year 2016. Annual and long-term discharge summaries and an evaluation of chemical conditions relative to state and federal water quality standards are presented. These results are considered provisional, and may be subject to change. River Discharge: Hydrographs for the Snake River at Flagg Ranch, WY, and Moose, WY, exhibit a general pattern of high early summer flows and lower baseflows
