ABSTRACT This research was carried out at the University of Cienfuegos in order to design a computer system and implement the Automatic Downloads module for the automatic control, monitoring and processing of download requests made by users of the Internet. said center. Abstract:
Software downloading over the Internet is a major solution for publishers to deliver their software products. In this context, user interfaces for software downloading must be designed carefully. They should provide usable interactions and support users when deciding whether to accept the software product or not. This work proposes to enrich a common browser interface for software downloading with a reputation system - a mechanism for collecting and presenting user feedback. The reputation system is assessed with a usability study. The authors’ results show that positive user rankings are effective in increasing user download acceptances for well-known publishers and common name publishers, as well as in increasing acceptance motivations related to trust aspects. In addition, the presence of the reputation system reduces incoherent user behaviors.

Abstract:
The Android operating system, originally intended for smartphone devices, is now finding its way into cars and other vehicles. While the Android system already implements support for system updates, it is not suitable for use in the automotive domain. It is not compatible with modern automotive standards for diagnostic communication such as ISO 14229: Unified Diagnostic Services (UDS). This means that new tools, procedures and software would be needed to allow an Android device to be updated by a service technician in a repair shop or on the field. A better approach would be to add support for automotive diagnostic communication in Android. This way, the tools and supporting infrastructure that already exist can still be used. We have developed a solution for diagnostic communication on Android that is both modular and compatible with existing automotive standards. By using the standard ISO 13400: Diagnostic communication over Internet Protocol (DoIP), this solution enables both updating the system software on the Android device itself, as well as diagnostic communication with the ECUs on the vehicle’s internal CAN network. Thus, an existing diagnostic port based on a slower communication protocol such as CAN or J1587 could theoretically be replaced completely by the Android device’s Ethernet port. Finally, we have evaluated the performance of our implementation under various settings and conditions. These include varying the maximum size of a diagnostic message, different network settings, downloading software over a Wi-Fi link, and downloading data to multiple devices simultaneously.

Abstract:
The superior reconfigurability of software defined radio mobile devices has made it one of the most promising technology on the wireless network and in the mobile communication industry. The evolution from a static and rigid system to a highly dynamic environment, which offers many advantages over current systems, has been made possible thanks to the concepts of programmability and reconfigurability introduced by the software defined radio technology and the higher level of flexibility and openness of this technology's devices. Clearly, the software defined radio mobile device's flexibility is a great advantage since the customer is able to use the same device in different parts of the world, with different wireless technologies. Despite the advantages, there are still issues to be discussed regarding security. According to the Software Defined Radio Forum some of the concerns are the radio configuration download, storage and installation, user's privacy, and cloning. To address the SDR Forum concerns a raud-prevention framework is proposed. The framework is composed by new pieces of hardware, new modules and new protocols that together greatly enhance the overall security of software defined radio mobile devices and this new highly dynamic environment. The framework offers security monitoring against malicious attacks and viruses that may affect the configuration data; protects sensitive information through the use of protected storage; creates and protects an identity for the system; employs a secure and efficient protocol for radio configuration download and update; and finally, establishes an anti-cloning scheme, which not only guarantees that no units can be cloned over the air but also elevates the level of difficulty to clone units if the attacker has physical access to those units. Even if cloned units exist, the anti-cloning scheme is able to identify them and deny any service.

Abstract:
DySCAS is an automotive research project with the purpose of providing a future standard within the vehicle electronics layer satisfying the needs of both today's and tomorrow's automotive producers. This master thesis was carried out at Enea during the fall of 2007 with the purpose of investigating the implementation of software download through an external and secure communication link to every node in a DySCAS system. Furthermore it aimed at investigating how policies, which are a part of making the system behave autonomously, should be managed in the DySCAS project when it came to storing these in a repository. Finally, the AUTOSAR standardization, another automotive project, was studied for an investigation to be made about which requirements that should be set on the architecture of DySCAS, for it to co-exist with the AUTOSAR standardization. After an initial literature study, addressing the issues presented above, a design of the software system was carried out followed by an implementation and testing of this software. A general design of a system supporting software load, allowing both the replacement of one middleware component as well as the update of an entire node running in the DySCAS middleware, has been presented. In the subsequent implementation the possibility of using the CAN network to upgrade the software running on one or more DySCAS nodes with the help of an externally connected "upgrading node" has been explored and successfully implemented in the demonstrator platform. Furthermore, a Repository Service , using Enea's Polyhedra real-time database as the underlying repository, has been designed and implemented in the DySCAS demonstrator platform at Enea. The implemented software component supports the storage of policies and context information and thus aids the system in the objective of behaving autonomously. The Repository Service also provides the DySCAS system with a general storage facility, allowing other parts of the middleware or applications running on top of the middleware to store data. Finally, a design of how DySCAS and AUTOSAR should be elaborated to t together in one bigger system has been presented.

Abstract: The goal of the present study consists of examining the taxation of software focusing on the municipal service tax (ISS) and the tax on the circulation of goods and on services of interstate and Intermunicipal transportation and communication (ICMS). It is not properly a new theme and it was for sure deeply discussed along the last three decades. Nevertheless, the taxation of software is a topic of constant evolution, due to the fact that the software itself is a good that composes the information technology segment, which suffers changes in every minute, bringing more modernity to our day-by-day. The technological innovation introduces effective changes in the computing elements from the past and, as a consequence, the criteria used by the courts to define the tax treatment of software are also modified. Therefore, new challenges about the topic are set, especially in how to adapt the fundamentals before defined by the jurisprudence to guide the taxation of this important economic segment. Thus, reviewing relevant topics discussed in the past, such as the definition of the levy of these taxes based on technical and commercial concepts of computing program (standard software and personalized software), becomes extremely important. This study intends to demonstrate that, in spite of the fast and endless technological evolution, the taxation of software by ISS and ICMS must consider in the first place the characteristics of the legal transaction that supports the supply of the computer program, using its technical aspects as auxiliary elements to define the more adequate tax treatment.

Abstract:

Despite the continued demand for open source security software, a gap in the identification of success factors related to the success of open source security software persists. There are no studies that accurately assess the extent of this persistent gap, particularly with respect to the strength of the relationships of open source software development attributes and the number of security software downloads. The research conducted in this study investigates the strength of the relationships of particular open source software project development factors against a particular measure of open source security software success. This research focuses on open source software development with an emphasis on anti-virus, firewall and intrusion detection software. Additionally, reviewed in this study are some key cyber-security events that have shaped the cyber landscape as well as descriptions of some security technologies that have emerged as a result of those events. A level of correlation between the dependent variable number of software downloads and the independent variables project team size and number of software project events are analyzed in this research.

Full text
Abstract:
Jurisdiction is the foundational concept for both national laws and international law as it provides the link between the sovereign government and its territory, and ultimately its people. The internet challenges this concept at its root: data travels across the internet without respecting political borders or territory. This book is about this Jurisdictional Challenge created by internet technologies. The Jurisdictional Challenge arises as civil disputes, criminal cases, and regulatory action span different countries, rising questions as to the international competence of courts, law enforcement, and regulators. From a technological standpoint, geography is largely irrelevant for online data flows and this raises the question of who governs “YouTubistan.” Services, communication, and interaction occur online between persons who may be located in different countries. Data is stored and processed online in data centres remote from the actual user, with cloud computing provided as a utility. Illegal acts such as hacking, identity theft and fraud, cyberespionage, propagation of terrorist propaganda, hate speech, defamation, revenge porn, and illegal marketplaces (such as Silkroad) may all be remotely targeted at a country, or simply create effects in many countries. Software applications (“apps”) developed by a software developer in one country are seamlessly downloaded by users on their mobile devices worldwide, without regard to applicable consumer protection, data protection, intellectual property, or media law. Therefore, the internet has created multi-facetted and complex challenges for the concept of jurisdiction and conflicts of law. Traditionally, jurisdiction in private law and jurisdiction in public law have belonged to different areas of law, namely private international law and (public) international law. The unique feature of this book is that it explores the notion of jurisdiction in different branches of “the” law. It analyses legislation and jurisprudence to extract how the concept of jurisdiction is applied in internet cases, taking a comparative law approach, focusing on EU, English, German, and US law. This synthesis and comparison of approaches across the board has produced new insights on how we should tackle the Jurisdictional Challenge. The first three chapters explain the Jurisdictional Challenge created by the internet and place this in the context of technology, sovereignty, territory, and media regulation. The following four chapters focus on public law aspects, namely criminal law and data protection jurisdiction. The next five chapters are about private law disputes, including cross-border B2C e-commerce, online privacy and defamation disputes, and internet intellectual property disputes. The final chapter harnesses the insights from the different areas of law examined.

Abstract:
AbstractThe provision and dissemination of Open Data is a flourishing concept, which is highly recognized and established in the government and public administrations domains. Typically, the actual data is served as static file downloads, such as CSV or PDF, and the established software solutions for Open Data are mostly designed to manage this kind of data. However, the rising popularity of the Internet of things and smart devices in the public and private domain leads to an increase of available real-time data, like public transportation schedules, weather forecasts, or power grid data. Such timely and extensive data cannot be used to its full potential when published in a static, file-based fashion. Therefore, we designed and developed Ronda - an open source platform for gathering, processing and publishing real-time Open Data based on industry-proven and established big data and data processing tools. Our solution easily enables Open Data publishers to provide real-time interfaces for heterogeneous data sources, fostering more sophisticated and advanced Open Data use cases. We have evaluated our work through a practical application in a production environment.

Abstract:
Most people recognize there are risks to online privacy but may not be fully aware of the various ways that personal information about them can be stolen through the Web. People can be lured to malicious Web sites designed to deceive them into revealing their personal information or unknowingly download malicious software to their computer. Even worse, legitimate sites can be compromised to host attacks called drive-by downloads. This chapter describes the online risks to identity theft and the technological means for protecting individuals from losing their personal information while surfing the Web.

Abstract:
The phrase “open source” is not something often heard in everyday conversation. However, the idea of downloadable, free, software, particularly mobile applications, or “apps,” has become quite commonplace. Individuals often download free products, grateful that they are available, and will potentially work well, without thinking where they originate or why they even exist. Not so long ago, most things associated with computers available to the general population came at a cost and were available from only a few vendors. Presently, this is no longer the case thanks to the ever-increasing availability and popularity of open source software, operating systems, and applications.

Abstract:
Web-based patient registries support clinicians by providing a way to effectively store and process data. Here, we present a new feature for the open-source registry software OSSE: medical reports generated with R Markdown. As part of a rare disease research project, we describe the process from requirements assessment to the current state of technical implementation. The feature offers clinicians the possibility to download customised as well as generic reports from an OSSE rare disease registry.

Abstract:
Those who work in instructional technologies and design have long been turning to the usages of open-source resources (learning / course management systems, software tools and apps, authoring tools, digital learning objects, simulations, games, and virtual spaces) for online learning—for many reasons—their easy availability (through download), the often-free price-tag, the popularity of open-source resources among learners, and the savings in terms of development (not maintenance) costs. This chapter examines the selective adoption of open-source resources for online learning and the practical considerations that inform this decision.

Nowadays, Multimedia contents such as images, videos, e-books and texts are easy to available for download through internet in worldwide. Duplication of multimedia contents is to create using different software. This type of operation some time created problem of copyright and ownership authentication. Digital watermarking techniques are one of the solutions for providing protection to multimedia contents. This chapter gives various watermarking techniques in transform domain and sparse domain for protection of multimedia contents. This chapter has demonstrated various watermarking techniques such as Discrete Cosine Transform (DCT), Discrete Wavelet Transform (DWT), Singular Value Decomposition (SVD), Fast Discrete Curvelet Transform (FDCT), and CS theory based technique. All watermarking techniques can be applicable to every type of multimedia contents such as grayscale images or videos and color image or videos.
