Abstract:
Programs are not only a tool for the simplification or automation of everyday tasks; they also represent a significant time and money investment. A program's life may span years, or even decades, which creates certain risks for the stakeholders involved. To mitigate the risks associated with these legacy systems, software renovation can be undertaken. Software renovation can be described as a series of processes and/or tools used to modernize a legacy system, thereby preserving and maintaining the investment it represents while decreasing the risks associated with it. In this thesis, the focus is on renovation of software created by in-house development. A series of case studies will be examined to demonstrate basic renovation strategies, including the formation of goals for a renovation and exploring trade-offs between robustness, performance, and usability.

Abstract:
On this report, we develop a business Project that is innovative and up to date. PARTY HOUSE is a virtual platform that offers catering at a remote site for personal events. It brings together everything you want. With just a click away you can ask for prices and pay online with ease. This business idea started when a group of Friends wanted to celebrate the birthday of a coworker and they started to ask themselves: What should we buy? Who is gonna buy it? Or Who Will decorate? Our target was focused on people between the ages of 25-45 that live around the districts of San Isidro, Miraflores, Surco and San Borja. This people wanted to organized something nice for a family member or a friend and have an easy acces to a digital world where they can find what they need. Nowdays, no one has time to arranged an event and daily activities take the most of our time and energy and this is the reason why most of us decide to take on this kind of service and product. Even sometimes, people has hired catering without knowing anything about it. Taking risks with quality, good service and of course, healthy guideline. Finally, after researchs and preparation of clients into our business, we present you the Financial Review 2018-2022 that gives you a profitable and well accepted business around the target. According to the VAN and TIR review, this business has top numbers alluring anyone who wants to invest on this type of Project.<br>Trabajo de investigación

Abstract:

Abstract:
The objective of this thesis was to explore the nature of expenditure incurred on the internal development of software and its treatment in terms of the accounting and taxation frameworks to which it is subject. In fulfilling the primary objective the thesis had a number of subsidiary considerations. These included, firstly, a brief analysis of the approach of the software industry in South Africa to the taxation treatment of this type of software. The second consideration was a discussion and analysis of the taxation framework which differentiates between capital and revenue and the extent to which the receipts produced by internally developed software may be informative of the nature of the expenditure. The third was an analysis of the deductibility of expenditure incurred in the production of software with the fourth analysing the tests employed in the determination of whether expenditure is capital or revenue in nature. The fifth objective was to briefly analyse the accounting standards which find application in the determination of whether or not the software created can be considered a capital asset. The final subsidiary objective of the thesis was an analysis of the taxation framework applicable to software in respect of research and development incentives, as well as the position in the United States of America. Throughout the thesis the most apparent commonality is that there exists a significant level of uncertainty as to the taxation treatment of software both in South Africa and in America. The research concludes by stating that such uncertainty is prejudicial to the interests of research and development in relation to software.

Abstract:
The Agile software development model is driven by "learning by doing" and rejects Big Design Up Front (BDUF) for that reason. User-Centered Design (UCD) on the other hand requires a more holistic view to be able to create a usable user interface and in the end create a good user experience. Finding a balance between the incremental development and the need for a more comprehensive view of the user interface is therefore the key to usability in Agile software development. The objective of this master thesis was to construct a framework on how to combine UCD and Agile development in general, and specifically for the web based tool, called Alo, at the IS/IT department of Com Hem AB, Sweden. The results of this thesis was that the process of integrating User-Centered Design in Agile software development first of all needs a familiar starting point for both usability experts and developers. This can be achieved with what Desirée Sy describes as “Cycle Zero”, to let usability experts perform initial research ahead of implementation. Designing one sprint ahead should later converge to a more synchronized process where requirements and sketches of the interface are put together, with the help of developers, just in time for the implementation. This does not only prevents waste in the form of documentation and miscommunication associated with hand-offs, but also makes the implementation more purposeful and fun for developers.Secondly, build prototypes early in the process to create a holistic vision of the finished product and to test concepts in usability tests early. Thirdly, create shared understanding (within the development team as well as with outside stakeholders) of user needs by involving the entire team in usability testing. Critical to the success of all the above is that all outside stakeholders understands the Agile process and respects that the team is a self-organizing unit that solves problems within a set of given boundaries, rather than a code factory that feeds on specification documents.

Abstract:
Data management and analysis represent a major challenge for microarray studies. In this study, Affymetrix software was used to analyze an HIV-infection data. The microarray analysis shows remarkably different results when using different parameters provided by the software. This highlights the fact that a standardized analysis tool, incorporating biological information about the genes is needed in order to better interpret the microarray study. To address the data management problem, in-house programs, including scripts and a database, were designed. The in-house programs were also used to overcome problems and inconveniences discovered during the data analysis, including management of the gene lists. The database provides rapid connection to many online public databases, as well as the integration of the original microarray data, relevant publications and other useful information. The in-house programs allow investigators to process and analyze the full Affymetrix microarray data in a speedy manner.

Abstract:
Over the years, researchers have argued that user friendly and result oriented systems were not necessarily products of participatory user involvement; however there is a degree of user involvement required in the development process of any Information System. The aim of this research is to discover the level of user involvement in in-house software development process in All Nigerian Bank (ANB). We use two research methods - survey and process observation. A survey was conducted for 107 end users and 10 developers (programmers) of 5 selected in-house developed software solutions; we complement our survey with an active observation of a typical software development process. Relative to the five in-house software solutions studied in our reseach; our study reveals that user involvement in the development process on the whole for these five solutions has been 8% participative, 18% representative, 33% consultative and 41% informative. 67% of end user respondents agreed that these specific in-house developed solutions are user friendly while 62% said solutions meet business needs. This result is a clustered representation of the 5 cases as a way of exploring the “normal in-house development process” in ANB We conclude that the level of user involvement relative to business needs and user friendliness is a reflection of a number of factors which include ANB’s business strategy, organizational culture and politics; other factors include weak Nigerian labour laws, low ethical standards and high unemployment rate.<br>Contact Mobile PhoneNo : +2348067982450

Beagley, Nicholas I. "A longitudinal study to formalise a lifecycle methodology for small scale in-house software development." Thesis, Loughborough University, 1997. https://dspace.lboro.ac.uk/2134/33093.

Full text
Abstract:
Continuing technological advances have brought in-house software development within the reach of small organisations. This study investigates the issues relating to bespoke software development for this emerging user population. It presents a lifecycle methodology, iteratively tailored to the characteristics of small scale in-house development, as a guide to future development. The study reports the development of the Database Application in Vehicle Ergonomics (DAVE), an information system which was designed to support the specific requirements of a small group of experts. An action research approach was taken through the planning, implementation and evaluation of the project's development methodology. The principles and techniques considered to suit the development scenario were adopted and applied within the framework of a defined lifecycle. The lifecycle directed user centred prototype evolution from a minimal specification to explore and deliver a range of novel applications. Taking a longitudinal approach, the study guided the iterative design of the lifecycle methodology over a series of development and maintenance case studies. The resulting 'modular system' lifecycle successfully managed the limited resources of small scale in-house software development to deliver and support a modular information system that was both usable and used.

Abstract:
The quality attribute concerning usability is generally of significant importance to systems. The area of Human Computer Interaction, HCI, especially handles several usability aspects. This degree project emphasizes HCI in a context of, so called, Smart House. The report is divided into three main sections: theory, application, and measurement results. In the theory section we will present about the context of HCI and the content of HCI, such as HCI model and goals of HCI design. In the application section we discuss the use of mobile phones as a device to remotely control devices of smart houses, and present a system developed to support such services. In order to make the system more attractive, we decided to design it for two categories of operations, menu operation and direct-touch operation mode. Finally, we have used questionnaires for reasons of measuring user satisfaction. Through investigation and analysis of the result of this, we come to the conclusion that system usability is good.

Abstract:
<p> Offshoring software projects have been common for a few decades and were once thought to be the savior of software development project issues that plagued in-house software developers. Even with many recent advances in software development and communication, many projects are still compromised in some way. This dissertation analyzes in-house and offshore projects that were conducted using the waterfall methodology to determine the real source of the issues. The main hypothesis here is that by implementing agile, at least in part, at the design/code phase of software development will not only reduce or eliminate issues that were identified using waterfall but prove that development problems are independent of whether a project is developed offshore or in-house. This study also shows that, in addition to agile mitigating project issues at one phase of software development, project stakeholders are more comfortable, if they are in the process of migrating to agile development, by implementing agile initially at only one phase of the process.</p><p>

Abstract:
This thesis discusses the application of the bond graph modeling technique directly coded into the Dynamic Modeling Language (DYMOLA) for simulating a solar-heated house. Scientists throughout the years have investigated the exploitation of solar radiation for space heating. In this thesis, the physical behavior of such a system is modeled and simulated in a convenient, robust and fast manner. The bond graph modeling methodology has found widespread use in a wide range of systems. DYMOLA is a modeling language well suited to represent bond graphs. DYMOLA is a program generator that can map a topological system description, such as a bond graph, into a state-space description expressed in the form of a DESIRE simulation program.

Abstract:
The objective of this study has been to investigate and compare frontend javascript frameworks and cloud services in order to find which ones are most suitable to implement a web based product development application. The application will be based on the "House of Quality" methodology, which is commonly used in product development. It is basically a way to organize customer requirements, identify relevant quantifiable technical parameters and rank them in order to find out which ones are most important for the finished product. By using this very methodology on the application itself, the most important parameters were found to be data update delays and the need for additional services. The selected cloud services were benchmarked according to these parameters. For framework comparison, the methodology was based on existing research regarding what developers actually base their selection of frontend javascript frameworks on, which resulted in the metrics maturity, community size and documentation. SQL queries and benchmarking scripts were constructed in order to gather statistics from online services and run performance benchmarks. The results reveal substantial differences between frameworks as well as in performance among cloud services. A combination of the frontend framework Angular, the backend service Firebase and the authentication service Auth0 were found to be well suited for fulfilling the requirements of the product development application. Finally, potential problems, ethical considerations and areas where more research is required are discussed.

Liu, Hao. "Energy saving through voltage optimisation & non-intrusive load monitoring in domestic house." Thesis, University of Warwick, 2015. http://wrap.warwick.ac.uk/75546/.

Full text
Abstract:
Energy consumption worldwide in domestic domain accounts for almost one third of the total energy consumption so it is important to reduce energy usage in this sector for energy sustainability. The project aims to investigate two domestic energy saving methodologies in domestic sector, namely voltage optimisation and non-intrusive load monitoring. The first method is to address the issues of unnecessarily extra usage of electrical energy caused by excessively high mains voltage. It is achieved via a voltage optimiser to maintain the voltage at a desired constant level. The second method is to make electrical energy usage information more transparent to consumers and identify the potential energy waste caused by misusing energy of devices. This is to be achieved via the methodology of load disaggregation. The mains voltage delivered to individual houses varies constantly depending on the location of the house, the load condition and other factors. The method of installing voltage optimiser in domestic houses to optimise the voltage and reduce energy consumption started from last decade. Most of the existing voltage optimisers do not have very precise voltage control and there is very limit report on the theoretical analysis of them. Therefore, a power electronic based voltage stabiliser for voltage optimisation in domestic house is proposed in this project and an intensive study of proposed voltage stabiliser is carried out in terms of the topology, mathematical modelling and control strategy design. The simulation and experiment results are also presented to verify the proposed voltage stabiliser in this thesis. The current method adopted for analysing energy saving is via comparing the electricity bill of a house before and after the installation of a voltage optimiser. But it is impossible to ensure that the user behaviour and energy usage pattern are exact same in these two cases. The lack of quantitative analysis on energy saving has become a major obstacle to convince people and promote the voltage optimisation in domestic house. This project investigated a method for estimating the energy saving of installing a voltage optimiser in real time. An energy saving algorithm is presented and implemented. A test rig hosting different types of electric loads is established to verify the robustness of this algorithm. The experiment results demonstrate that the presented algorithm can estimate the energy saving achieved by a voltage optimiser in real time with very high accuracy. Non-intrusive load monitoring is to disaggregate the total electricity consumption into individual appliances based on the voltage and current measurement at premise level. Most of the existing approaches require massive training and pre-known dataset to obtain the disaggregated energy breakdown of a house and there is no well accepted approach to monitor the home appliances operation in real time. The project is to explore a new method by which the operations of individual appliances can be monitored in real-time simultaneously. A new load signature is proposed to describe the features of appliances and an event based algorithm is developed in this project. The algorithm is then implemented onto a test rig with 6 different appliances and 11 working modes. The evaluation results demonstrate that the proposed algorithm is able to monitor the operations of individual appliances and feedback the information in real time.

Full text
Abstract:
This thesis presents the development of an automatic mesh generator, named WoodFrameMesh, using object oriented C++. The program developed is capable of generating complete finite element models of wooden houses incorporating frames, linear links, springs, nodal loads and restraints at the desired locations. The finite element mesh generated by the program may be triangular or quadrilateral. The triangular mesh can be generated over any arbitrary domain with multiple openings and line constraints. The program implements the advancing front method for triangulation as discussed by Lee and Hobbs. The difference is made by implementing the algorithm using object oriented concepts and the extensive use of the powerful C++ Standard Template Library (STL). Quadrilateral mesh generation is limited to simple quadrilateral domains with no openings or constraint lines. A simple structured technique is implemented to generate the quadrilateral mesh. The amount of time spent in manual generation of the complete finite element model of wooden houses has been considerably reduced by automating the modeling process. Overall, the use of object oriented design has facilitated the code development and has provided a platform for further additions. The program relies on the use of STL as it provides dynamic data structures, algorithms for storage, searching, sorting, etc. Efficiency of the program is improved by the use of the in-built features in STL instead of developing new code. Analysis of the finite element models generated by the automatic mesh generator is performed using SAP 2000 and WoodFrameSolver. WoodFrameSolver is a finite element analysis engine for WoodFrameMesh, which was developed at Virginia Tech by a group of graduate students (including the author) and professors as a separate project. A chapter discussing the WoodFrameSolver architecture, its extensibility features and its verification is also presented in this thesis. The solver performance and accuracy are similar to those of SAP 2000, which was chosen as the benchmark for testing the analysis results.<br>Master of Science

Abstract:
In our current political climate, state level legislators have become increasingly impor- tant. Due to cuts in funding and growing focus at the national level, public oversight for these legislators has drastically decreased. This makes it difficult for citizens and activists to understand the relationships and commonalities between legislators. This thesis provides three contributions to address this issue. First, we created a data set containing over 1200 features focused on a legislator’s activity on bills. Second, we created embeddings that represented a legislator’s level of activity and engagement for a given bill using a custom model called Democracy2Vec. Third, we provided a case study focused on the 2015-2016 California State Legislator and had our results verified by a political expert. Our results show that our embeddings can explain relationships between legislator and how they will likely act during the legislative process.

Abstract:
Im interested in the topic of praying machine, because I want to analyze aspects of photography and its functions. It's known, that the reality is manipulated by photography. Bud we can also say, that the relationship between reality and photography is neutral in fact, that the manipulation is made by our interpretation of photography. The change of the reality can be realized just in the dialog between photography and reality. Can it be, that the mechanization change into the will? Does it prays praying mill or the buddhistic monk, who rotates the mill? When he believes into it, is it enough? Or is it enough if believes who watch the monk with his mill? ... The computers from he place A are "praying" the prayers from the place B. Although the improvement of technology and management sector is faster and faster, most software house can’t have good performance. The management studies of software house in Taiwan always focus on the Critical success factors (CSFs) and Competitive Strategy. Nobody knows how the performance change process. System Dynamics (SD) is a practical behavior process method. The study transfers the real business process of software house into SD Model. Through the simulation and strategy test, we can see the process of performance improvement. The study makes the structure of business process clearer, and finds a important thing of software house management – Keep the Quality、Schedule and Man allocation, even better. The study also uses the SD model to prove the importance of owning core market.

Abstract:
The dissertation deals with credit risk and default prediction for software companies in the light of Basel II, the new capital accord for financial institutions. A credit risk model was developed which can be used by lenders to predict the default of software companies. Such model was developed by using three independent approaches: In a first approach, a model was created which was based solely on quantitative data (i.e. accounting data). In a second approach, a model was developed which was based entirely on qualitative information, including management skills, know how, quality of services and others. In a third approach, the quantitative and the qualitative models were combined. The results indicate that a credit risk model which is based on both quantitative and qualitative information yields the strongest predictive power. (author´s abstract)

Abstract:
碩士<br>國立屏東商業技術學院<br>資訊管理系<br>92<br>Nowadays, information system has become a part of our life and job, whether for corporations or individuals. The increased pressure on companies to improve their core competency enhances the needs for more complex IS, such as EC, CRM, and so on. And the ISs are too complex and too big for an individual to accomplish; the approach of team working has principally been developed. A team-work effectiveness model for developing a customizing information system in a software-house is initially proposed via literature reviews and in–depth interviews with several experts master on project management in the industry of Taiwan. Questionnaire was conducted to collect data for exploring the influencing factors on the effectivness of team work during developing a customizing information system. And Pearson and Spearman coefficient, factor analysis and path analysis are applied to analyze the data. The results reveal that (1) project manager will adjust his leadership upon the characteristics of a contracted project he is interested or working on. Project difficulity and project uncertainty may be evaluated via a feasibility study or be controlled through a project contract. But customer requirement changes are more difficult to be predicted and even can affect more; (2) uncertainty of environment and market status are more concerned on developing a package system than a customizing information system for a software-house in Taiwan; (3) leadership is the most important factor for team work effectivness, and a project manager should be the middleman between team members, superiors of software house, customers and outsourcers; (4) team-work process, leadership and customer involvement are the key success factors for team work effectiveness on developing customizing information systems; and (5) information system development highly depends on team member's experiences, skills, abilities and their attitudes or motivations. Also the team member’s turn over is another critical issue that should be concerned.

Abstract:
碩士<br>國立交通大學<br>電機與控制工程系<br>90<br>This research subject majorly lies in virtual reality horse. At first, we introduce a general idea of virtual reality, including the art designing of 3D models, the flow path of virtual reality, and the basic definition of coordinates. Then, we introduce how to build up a model of horse’s shape, and we integrate dynamic motion formula into our simulation environment. We also combine some hardware and software to operate、exhibit the dynamic movement of horse, enhance the reality of our simulation environment etc. to let its interaction confirm with actual application. Among the hardware which we often equip the virtual reality with includes the joystick of general purpose 、Stewart motion platform with six axes、keyboard、mouse、specific joystick which can send force back、equipment of projection and etc. Then we discuss the Stewart Platform which is connected with the dynamic simulation environment. In order to let the passengers on the Stewart platform, which is restricted to a limited working space, can still feel the dynamic condition of the simulation environment realistically, we develop a washout filter which can control the motion of the Stewart platform. We then use it to simulate the real motion of the passengers on the horses. Besides the exhibition of the VR simulation environment is projecting the picture of simulation environment onto the projective surface, and for some specific reason, the facility for projection of exhibitive room is concave and curved surface, so there will be some deviation of the projection picture. Thus, we also study how to correct and improve the projective pictures.
