The article presents the results of a comparative assessment of zonal soil conservation and zero tillage systems in the conditions of the moderately arid steppe of Northern Kazakhstan, on ordinary heavy loamy chernozome. As a result of the research, it was found that zero technology is not inferior in productivity to zonal soil protection technology. Under these soil and climatic conditions, an important criterion for choosing technology is the volumetric mass of the soil.
