A simple water balance model was applied to a micro-catchment water harvesting system for a semi-arid area in the North-Eastern part of Jordan. Two Negarim micro-catchment water harvesting systems were built at Al-Khanasri research station. A Randomized complete block design (RCBD) in factorial combination was used with six treatments and three replicates. Each plot was divided into two parts; a runoff area, and a run-on area. Two different treatments were used for the catchment area, these were: compacted (T1) and Natural treatments (T2). Three treatments were used for the run-on area, these

Knowledge of soil moisture is important for planning and decision-making in the agricultural sector, land and water conservation and flood warning. Point measurements of soil moisture, although highly accurate, are time consuming, costly and do not provide an accurate indication of the soil moisture variation over time and space as soil moisture has a high degree of spatial and temporal variability. The interaction effect of “Soil type, Soil water regime, Nitrogen fertilizer application Rates and Timing” on Nitrogen balancein soil were studied; in terms of nitrogen gained by plant portions, remained in soil, and losses through different ways under wheat (Triticum aestivum L. Giza 168), in order to identify the most proper and effective combinations of above-studied variables that provides a satisfactory grain wheat yield and minimizes the use of chemical nitrogen fertilizers, to save the surrounding environment and to achieve good water saving. Northeastern Brazil is hydrologically characterized by recurrent droughts leading to a highly vulnerable natural water resource system. The region contains the Caatinga biome, a sparsely studied ecosystem, covering an area of approximately 800,000 km2. Reduced wateravailability is projected to take place in large regions of the globe, including Northeastern Brazil. Given the strong interactions between climate and vegetation, research has addressed climate change effects on natural and agricultural ecosystems. In this context, soil hydraulic properties are essential to assess soil water flow,

Abstract:
Water balance models are important for the characterization of hydrologic systems, to help understand regional scale dynamics, and to identify hydro-climatic trends and systematic biases in data. Because existing models have, to-date, only been tested on data sets of limited spatial representativeness and extent, it has not yet been established that they are capable of reproducing the range of dynamics observed in nature. This dissertation develops systematic strategies to guide selection of water balance models, establish data requirements, estimate parameters, and evaluate performance. Throu
