Cassava (Manihot esculenta Crantz) is a staple food crop grown by smallholder farmers in the marginal regions of western, coastal and eastern Kenya. The objective of this study was to evaluate popular cassava varieties for yield and cyanide content in the arid and semi-arid regions of Kenya. The study was carried out at five sites located in three sub-counties of Nakuru county in Kenya. Treatments included a collection of 27 sweet cassava varieties obtained from Western Kenya. Thirty accessions from three cultivars (small seeds, medium seeds and large seeds), collected from center, east, north and south of Côte d'Ivoire, were analyzed for genetic differentiation. Five primers (Sola1, Sola4, Sola7, Sola8 and B4) were used to identify ISSR markers in C. mannii. These primers revealed a total of 55 bands of which 52 bands (93.06 %) are polymorphic. Abstract:

We analyze the Sun-to-Earth transport of energetic protons accelerated in solar flares. We use a model which assumes that protons move earthward in the Parker electromagnetic field. In this model, protons are shown to be recorded on Earth when they, moving away from the solar flare region, reach the vicinity of the heliospheric current sheet, while Earth is at a distance smaller than the proton Larmor radius from the current sheet neutral line.
