Abstract:
Due to their unusual textural properties and semblance, gel foods have been welcomed by consumers. In this study, we designed a novel gel food, that is, broth jellies that enclosed particular food dices (shrimp, chicken, and potatoes). Briefly, various ratios of gelling molecules (gelatin and κ-carrageenan) were added to chicken broth, the food dices were placed in the center of the gels, and their characteristics and stabilities were verified during cold storage (4 °C) for 14 days. As a result, the mix of κ-carrageenan and gelatin led to the formation of firm cross-junctions with an elevated

Sb2Co alloy in powdery form was synthesized via reduction with gaseous hydrogen of the oxide CoSb2O6, obtained by the citrate gel-combustion technique. The precursor was an aqueous solution of antimony nitrate, cobalt nitrate and citric acid. The precursor solution with mole ratio Co(II)/Sb(V) of 1:2 was gelatinized by evaporation of water. The gel was heated in air up to the temperature of self-ignition. The product of gel combustion was a mixture of oxides and it had to be additionally thermally treated in order to be converted to pure CoSb2O6. The reduction of CoSb2O6 by gaseous hydrogen yi

A series of Fe–Ba mixed oxides, including a pure Fe-containing sample as a reference, have been synthesized via a sol–gel process using Fe3+ or Fe2+ salts and BaSO4 as raw materials, with Pluronic P123 serving as a template. These oxides have been thoroughly characterized and subsequently utilized as catalysts for the chlorination of various organic molecules. Commercial hydrochloric acid, known for its relative safety, and environmentally friendly aqueous hydrogen peroxide were employed as the chlorine source and oxidant, respectively. In the present study, pectinase was produced by local fungal isolate, Aspergillus niger LFP-1 grown on pomelo peels as a sole carbon source under solid-state fermentation (SSF). The purification process begins with the concentration of crude enzyme using ammonium sulfate precipitation and followed by purification using anion-exchange column chromatography (DEAE-Sephadex) and subsequently using gel filtration column chromatography (Sephadex G-100). On the other hand, the molecular weight of the purified enzyme was determined through SDS-PAGE. The findings revealed the crude enzyme was purified

ABSTRACT Activated sludge was fed phenol as the sole carbon source, and the phenol-loading rate was increased stepwise from 0.5 to 1.0 g liter−1 day−1 and then to 1.5 g liter−1 day−1. After the loading rate was increased to 1.5 g liter−1 day−1, nonflocculating bacteria outgrew the sludge, and the activated-sludge process broke down within 1 week. The bacterial population structure of the activated sludge was analyzed by temperature gradient gel electrophoresis (TGGE) of PCR-amplified 16S ribosomal DNA (rDNA) fragments. We found that the population diversity decreased as the phenol-loading rate

ABSTRACT We have previously reported the construction of an isogenic mutant defective in expression of OmpB1, the TbpB homologue, inMoraxella catarrhalis 7169. In this report, we have extended these studies by constructing and characterizing two new isogenic mutants in this clinical isolate. One mutant is defective in expression of TbpA, and the other mutant is defective in expression of both TbpA and TbpB. These isogenic mutants were confirmed by using PCR analysis, sodium dodecyl sulfate-polyacrylamide gel electrophoresis, and sequencing. In vitro growth studies, comparing all three mutants,

The six MAbs (IgG1 isotype) tested interacted with both intact and fixed platelets in a β2GPI-dependent manner. Carbamylated β2GPI was still recognized by MAbs but was unable to mediate platelet- antibody binding. Organic scintillators have gained popularity due to their high pulse-shape discrimination capability. This effect has applications in many areas: from environmental monitoring and radiomedicine to customs control and analysis of the consequences of nuclear disasters. The advantages of this class of scintillators are low atomic number and nonhygroscopicity, but obtaining large-area detectors from them is a challenge. The manufacture of large-diameter single-crystal detectors is an expensive, laborious process, requires mechanical processing. To overcome these disadvantages of organic scintillat
