Abstract:
Solid Bleached Sulphate Boards (SBS) and Duplex Boards are commonly used substrates for various carton based packaging applications. Both types of boards were printed with Web Offset Printing Press available in local market keeping in target to check printing characteristics i.e. Solid Ink Density, Dot Gain and Print Contrast. A master consisting of quality control patches was prepared, printed and evaluated for above mentioned print characteristics with the help of spectrodensitometer. The results indicated that Solid Bleached Sulphate Boards are better than Duplex boards in terms of Solid In

AbstractFoams are mainly composed of dispersed gas trapped in a liquid or solid phase making them lightweight and thermally insulating materials. Additionally, they are applicable for large surfaces, which makes them attractive for thermal insulation. State-of-the-art thermally insulating foams are made of synthetic polymeric materials such as polystyrene. This work focuses on generating foam from surfactants and renewable lignocellulosic materials for thermally insulating stealth material. The effect of two surfactants (sodium dodecyl sulphate (SDS) and polysorbate (T80)), two cellulosic mate

This study investigates powdered cellulose materials, particularly nanocellulose derived from plant and bacterial sources. The nanocellulose was generated by hydrolyzing bleached sulphate softwood and hardwood pulp samples with strong acids. The original materials are present in the product lines of leading Russian pulp and paper companies. The bacterial cellulose was produced under laboratory conditions from Medusomyces gisevii. The dimensional parameters of the nanocellulose samples were evaluated using electron microscopy, and the degree of polymerization was measured by determining the vis

The biochemical methane potential of several MSW fractions was determined in order to compare extents and rates of their conversion to methane. Based on MSW samples analyzed, the methane yield of MSW was estimated to be as high as 0.20 m3 kg−1 VS added, which indicates that more than 50% of the VS in MSW can be destroyed in anaerobic processing. Yard waste fractions of MSW can be expected to exhibit a high variability in yields due to the variety of plant materials which can be included. While some yard waste components, such as grass, exhibited yields as high as 0.21 m3 kg−1 VS, yields for mi

The present situation of water treatment facilities in the forest industry of Chile is briefly described. Some data of the Chilean pulp mill production and the present level of water pollution are shown. This paper is the result of five years of applied research conducted to study and evaluate liquid effluent treatment from pulp, paper and board mills. We describe laboratory results corresponding to three industrial mills that we have studied. The first case presented in this paper corresponds to a bleached Kraft pulp mill with a fiber line consisting in a MCC digester, a delignification unit

This manuscript presents the study of water absorption by paperboard subjected to water at high hydrostatic pressure based on a modified Cobb tester. The new tester is based on TAPPI Standard Test Method T 441; however, the water column can reach up to 550 mm. The evaluation consisted of measurements of water absorption for coated and uncoated paperboard at different exposure times from 5 s to 45 s and water column heights from 10 mm to 500 mm (corresponding to hydrostatic pressures 98 Pa and 4.9 kPa, respectively). Abstract The study discloses outputs from examinations devoted to charges of oxidizers and their impact on behaviour of missile engine operation with particular attention to measures that are undertaken to counteract stall of a helicopter engine. Homogenous solid propellant for missile engines exhibits a negative oxygen balance. When a series of rocket missiles driven by means of such fuel is launched from the helicopter board there is a hazard of the engine stall effect that may lead to killing its engines. The quantity of municipal solid waste (MSW) generation is escalating at an alarming rate with every passing year alongside the modernization of our economy. Unfortunately, the majority of this waste remains uncollected or ends up in open dumping and followed by uncontrolled burning. Citing the deep-rooted consequences, open dumping should be absolutely abandoned and scientific interventions should be aggressively exercised to reclaim the municipal brownfields.
