Abstract:
Learned helplessness occurs when one is unable to escape from a painful or aversive experience is unable to be escaped from (Hiroto & Seligman, 1975). The organism learns that it is helpless in and accepts its loss of control in those situations. This point is taken into account to explain the behavioural constellation of deprivation (BCD), in which one finds it difficult to escape from poverty. A new philosophy of economy is gradually emerging in the form of the so-called Economía Popular y Solidaria (popular and solidarity economy [PSE]). In this economical perspective, all members of companies are equally stockholders and investors so that these initiatives carry the implication that the democratisation process now moves from the political dimension to the economic arena. The democracy practiced in those businesses enables individuals to develop high levels of self-esteem and fosters a sense of belonging to the group.

Abstract:
This research work is a proposal of a model for an inclusive Agritourism business which has been created in order to invigorate the family economy of marginal farmers in Cumanda and Alausi – towns in the Chimborazo Province, Ecuador. Once the tourist potential in the zone, the one which is linked to the farming production systems, was evaluated, an agritourism product was designed for each one of the towns mentioned, and finally, the model Canvas was applied to the proposal. The research combines field, analytic, and participative methods along with techniques such as the interview and the survey. In order to evaluate the tourist potential in the zone, the MINTUR (2004) tourist attractions inventory methodology was applied. These attractions would later be validated in a participative way along with the community with whom the tourist route would also be created. All this is summarized through the business model proposed by Canvas. Thirty- three economically relevant-for-the-population farming products were identified. A tourist route was developed, and it integrated the production systems which have a hierarchy II and III. Moreover, the private and communitarian tourist plant was also designed. The business model proposes the creation of an economically solidary enterprise as a strategy for sustainable development

Abstract:
A Black epistemology in economics is needed to bring ethics back into business. Contributions of racialized people in the economy are ignored. Black and racialized scholars also find that their work is not cited, even by the most liberal-minded social economists. In the Americas, Black and racialized citizens innovate in the social and solidarity economy; yet their work goes unnoticed in the academic literature, or scholars approach them as the “Other” without invoking theory that reflects the very people they are writing about. Although the ills of neoliberal variants of capitalism are known, the diverse economies in which Black folk engage are less understood. Forcing White and European ideas on a non-White experience is limited in what it can do effect social change. Nor can we sever the Western ideologies in the field because it is this very bias why the Black radical tradition and other Black theories come into being. There is no shortage of Black writings on solidarity economics and they can now be housed in Black social economy. A Black social economy epistemology is politicized for goodness, and it is grounded theory, inclusive of the Black radical tradition, and lived experience because of the explanatory powers of these theoretical approaches to disrupt mainstream business and society.

Abstract:
AbstractThis paper argues that business can be helpfully conceived of as a mediating institution. Drawing upon neo-conservative theology, the author argues that mediating institutions serve a vital function in a free society to provide social justice out of an expanded civil society and provide a framework for a flourishing free market. Such institutions also nourish the attitudinal orientation of solidarity in applying the principle of subsidiarity by which self-interest becomes fulfilled through concern for others. The author further argues that businesses also be conceived of as mediating institutions and thereby be held to criteria of meeting associational needs. In addition to normative reasons for revising the social contract so that businesses do serve the role of mediating institutions, contemporary management theories demonstrate that businesses can also meet their social obligations of creating wealth while meeting associational needs.

Abstract:
It was always considered to be a major achievement of modern business cycle economics that it was solidly grounded in neoclassical growth theory. Preserving this joint foundation, however, imposes a discipline on the specification of models with variable capital utilization. In this note we show that conventional specifications of the depreciation cost of capital utilization and the labor supply elasticity, introduced into business cycle theory to generate a satisfactory amplification of shocks, entail counterfactual growth dynamics: the positive association between capital stock and GDP along the growth path turns negative. Across economies with access to the same technology, the economy with the lowest capital stock per capita is predicted to produce the highest output per capita. We compute lower and upper bounds for the involved elasticities between which these counterfactual dynamics are avoided.

Abstract:
AbstractIn this ground-breaking work, Deborah Cowen makes the first book-length critical intervention into the field of business logistics. Tracing the social, spatial and political transformations wrought by the ‘logistics revolution’, Cowen argues that logistical systems have blurred the boundaries between production and circulation, civilian and military life, and geopolitics and geo-economics, constructing an architecture of the supply chain animated by both the art of war and the science of business. This review considers the political stakes of Cowen’s argument that logistics has reconfigured capitalist social relations of production, especially in relation to the securitisation of spatial mobility and the restructuring of the labour process. In particular, Cowen’s wager that logistical supply-chains are characterised by their vulnerability – and that attendant possibilities for building solidarity emerge out of movements that disrupt such flows – is interrogated in order to question whether such interruptions effectively produce challenges to value-in-motion, or actually become integral to processes of value production.

Abstract:
The article deals with the identification and categorisation of economic power of Slovak regions on the base of collecting of unemployment support payment from the employers, employees, and natural persons entrepreneurs into the employment fund. The analysis shows that during the last years, the number of rich regions has decreased and there rises the number of counties which have to be supported by the division of means from the rich counties. The article consequently categorises the development of economically strong and weak counties of Slovakia in the years 1999–2002 and marks the causes of regional polarisation of Slovakia, lying in its economic and structural difficulties. Alongside increasing the regional polarisation in the rate of unemployment, there continues to rise the re-distribution of funds for labour-market policy from the economically stronger regions to the economically weaker regions, which are reliant on socio-spatial solidarity. The course of economic transformation up to date has had significantly different regional impacts and creates unequal chances for people as well as businesses in the afflicted areas.

Abstract:
This research investigates the relevance of exchange norms in a business-to-consumer context and studies the impact of both relational and discrete norms on customer satisfaction in services. As existing scales focus only on relational norms and are mostly limited to business-to-business contexts, Study 1 ( n = 164) proposes measurement scales for seven exchanges norms adapted to a business-to-consumer context: Reciprocity, The Linking norms, Creation and restraint of power, Role integrity, Solidarity, Flexibility, and Effectuation of consent. Study 2 ( n = 295) tests the influence on these norms on customer satisfaction. The article demonstrates that exchange norms as a whole positively affect customer satisfaction and, more specifically, that relational norms explain satisfaction better than discrete norms. The findings also show that, contrary to customer relationship proneness, relationship duration moderates the link between exchange norms and customer satisfaction.

Abstract:
Studies of why political parties in Sweden motivated their change of statements and policies during the refugee crisis in 2015 have been limited. I argue that it is relevant to question Swe- den’s traditional image as an open and generous country towards refugees. A change of policies took place within the traditional refugee friendly political parties in Sweden. Therefore, this thesis helps explain context for changes in the policies of the Green and Left parties during the refugee crisis 2015 in Sweden. It outlines the different policy outcomes between the Green and the Left parties and explains why two parties with initially similar positions concerning refugee issues became so markedly divided in a time of crisis. In this study, both quantitative and qual- itative methods involving content analysis and semi-structured interview techniques have been used in order to examine to what extent a change of reasoning led to different policy outcomes for the Left and Green parties. Interviews were used to gain deeper knowledge about each party’s approach towards refugees during Fall of 2015. Studies on Swedish refugee policies during the refugee crisis 2015 have either focused on 1) how refugees have been framed in news media and by politicians and 2) the socio-economic effects refugees have on Sweden because of badly managed integration policies. Less focus has been placed on how social economic reconstruction (proactive planning that allows groups from below to organize their resources) can become a powerful tool for political parties to provide solution-oriented refugee policies. Considering this unexplored area, this study analyses the Green and Left Parties’ refugee policies and how they developed during the refugee crisis by 2015. The research questions therefore relate to the change of policies of the Green and Left parties related to concepts such as solidarity and compassion for refugees and the need for greater restrictions on the number of refugees coming to Sweden through scarcity reduction and shifting budgets. The conclusion is that during the crisis, the concept of solidarity towards refugees was being tested and the debate mainly focused on quick solutions to the current crisis by restricting the number of asylum seekers through stricter laws. In contrast, policy discourse did not engage investments in solution-oriented policies with long run benefits, e.g. improving the efficiency of labor market policies to facilitate new arrivals’ labor market entry and social inclusion.

Abstract:
This business plan focuses on the development of a future private social solidarity institution - ReViver - which will provide an innovative program that aims to return the homeless population of the Lisbon district back to society. With the existing literary analysis referring to the scourge that is intended to combat, it is understood at this stage the gap in the Portuguese market in solving this theme, where Lisbon stands out as one of the districts with the most alarming numbers. The lack of projects capable of fully reinserting these people into society is a clear existing need. This institution will be born in this sense, filling that gap and truly making a difference. ReViver will have a program with an integrated model that will provide its users with housing, specialized support and a range of associated services. Through various partnerships, it is intended that users never feel helpless or without the support, contact, service or product they need. Step by step, at the right time, they will overcome the most diverse barriers, reinvent themselves and reinsert themselves into society, obtaining a job, remuneration and, of course, their respective responsibilities. This program based on an integrated model with various partnerships will be the most efficient, effective and viable way of giving new life to those who no longer see any hope in it, with the Lisbon city council being the key partner of the project. For solidarity and equity in our city and country, let's make Portugal ‘ReViver’.

Full text
Abstract:
Over the past few years, the social economy sector has reinforced its presence due to its importance in solving different problems. However, resources are scarce, meaning that nonprofit organisations should have access to tools for resources management, impact measurement and performance evaluation. For this reason, the main objective of this paper is to create a performance evaluation and strategic management system, a Balanced Scorecard (BSC) system, for Aproximar, Cooperativa de Solidariedade Social – which develops programs and initiatives to enable organisations and communities to respond sustainably to challenges and opportunities. In order to achieve this, qualitative methodology and case study with interventionist research were used for allowing to gather the most relevant theoretical information and put it into practice. During the BSC design, it was necessary to define the following elements: mission, vision and values; key stakeholders; performance perspectives; strategic objectives by perspective; strategic map; measures, calculation formula and targets; and initiatives. This project demonstrates that the BSC methodology, once adapted, can be applied to nonprofit organisations, specifically, through the adjustment of performance perspectives. From a practical perspective, it is expected that this work will bring benefits to Aproximar’s management process, namely, in strategic element systemization and management information, decision-making, strategy implementation and in communication with multiple stakeholders.

Abstract:
This chapter deals with how the socioeconomics of solidarity inserted in the Industry 4.0 can bring about solidarity and the creation of social and economic wealth based on the guiding principles of subsidiarity, the search for the common good, and solidarity based on social justice. After having grounded these principles, the author develops different solidarity-based public policies, mainly focused on the European Union, by including principles, objectives, and stages of the European ODA (Official Development Aid), the European Development Fund, the Common Framework for Joint Multiannual Programming and Efficiency, and the European Consensus on Development “Our World, Our Dignity, Our Future.” Some ideas complement this analysis linked to the socioeconomics of solidarity that focuses on solidarity and justice to search for a more balanced business world defined by social welfare and economic wealth.

Micro and SMEs represent 96% of the companies legally constituted and registered at the Chambers of Commerce in Colombia, and between 70% and 90% are mainly family owned businesses. Many of Colombia's largest companies and most successful business groups were born as family companies. However several researches and investigations developed by EAN University have revealed that these Family Businesses are a constant focus of conflicts. Why? What makes them so prone to conflict? The purpose of this work is to show the possible causes of this grim reality, and to offer some alternatives for proprietors to take these arousing conflicts to transform them into opportunities for improvement, giving their organizations an opportunity to be sustainable over time.

The study explores the contributions of microfinance to poverty reduction. The study used a descriptive design to establish the relationship between sales performance and access to credit in the SME sector in Ghana. Cross sectional survey was used to gather relevant data. The target population was the micro businesses in Madina in Ghana with a sample size of 200. The study reveals that microfinance has a positive impact on micro businesses. There exist a significant relationship between microfinance and sales. It was also found out that, the dependency burdens on micro entrepreneurs coupled with the low credit access from the microfinance institution for productive activities lead them to deploy the credit to meet the demand of both the business and household.

Abstract:
The study in this chapter aimed to explore the perception of university managers and academics towards incentives and obstacles of university-business co-operation. For this purpose, case studies were conducted in a public and a private university in Indonesia. Data was collected through semi-structured interviews with university managers: University Vice President and the Head of Research and Community Service Office; and with academics at the department of electrical engineering and computer science. The results suggest that both organizational actors at both universities share a common perception that industrial funding; organizational and individual reputation; trust from industries and applied research are the incentives in the creation of university-business co-operation; whilst bureaucracy, industrial commitment, different in vision and orientation, teaching obligation and basic research have been considered as the obstacles. This study proposes a managerial implication. University managers should ‘recognize' the ‘skills' of individual academics in business before engaging them in university-business co-operation. Furthermore, individual academics should able to manage the different vision and orientation with the business world.

Abstract:
The role of companies in today's society has been radically transformed, especially in developed economies. The stakeholders have deposited on companies different expectations compared to some years ago. Furthermore, this transformation has led to the establishment of new internal models of corporate governance depending on the intensity of the impact of demand for social action coming from the stakeholders interacting with firms. The aim of this work is to offer a decision model on Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR) and business strategies. This model constitutes a tool that can be adopted by firms, no matter their operational sector, to establish their particular coordinates with respect to their CSR actions and social commitment. Using this tool, companies can update their particular situation taking decisions to change those aspects influencing this position and improving their social integration, if it is perceived as non-aligned with its aspirations of success, efficiency or adequateness.

Abstract:
Emerging businesses face the daily challenge of competing in a world where major brands use their complete artillery to communicate and attract customers, and where small businesses are the most affected, so they should be more intelligent and daring to compete in the daily market. Here, the authors study the theory of digital marketing as a communication tool for emerging businesses and its benefits according to different authors. As a result, they propose the EComPymes model, where the appropriate basic tools for these type of companies are shown; thus, content generation through social media, mobile marketing, and email are the main options, not only for starting a business but competing with low budgets.
