Solution–combustion is an attractive approach to synthesis of nanomaterials for a variety of applications, including catalysts, fuel cells, and biotechnology. In this paper, several novel methods based on the combustion of a reactive solution are presented. These methods include selfpropagating sol-gel combustion and combustion of impregnated inert and active supports. It was demonstrated that, based on the fundamental understanding of the considered combustion processes, a variety of extremely high surface area materials could be synthesized. The controlling process parameters are defined and

Bismuth oxide synthesis using solution combustion method fuelled by hydrazine and urea has been conducted. This study aims to examine the effect of the applied fuels, urea and hydrazine, on product characteristics and photocatalytic activity in degrading rhodamine B dye. Bismuth oxide synthesis was initiated by dissolving bismuth nitrate pentahydrate (Bi(NO3)3.5H2O) in a nitric acid solvent. Fuel was added and then stirred. The solution formed was heated at 300 ºC for 8 hours. The product obtained was then calcined at 700 ºC for 4 hours. Bismuth oxide synthesized with urea (BO1) and hydrazine

The synthesis of peptides can be considered as the rate-limiting step in the development of peptide-based medicines. Synthetic methods currently available are limited by several aspects, including the high cost of production or excessive waste when applied to large-scale synthesis. The development of a new solution-phase synthesis of peptides is described herein. Initial studies focus on the synthesis of α-peptides in the C-terminal direction, though the occurrence of epimerisation during chain elongation shows the limitation of this approach. Lipid peroxidation has been implicated in the onset and progression of many degenerative diseases, including cardiovascular disease, Alzheimer’s disease and cancer. Accordingly, for more than 50 years, considerable effort has been devoted to the design of synthetic compounds or the discovery of natural products that can slow lipid peroxidation. Despite the enormous investments made to date, no clear antioxidant strategies have emerged for the treatment and/or prevention of degenerative disease. The nature, type and quantity of deposits depend on the characteristics of the water supply systems and the chemical operating regime. For boilers with high deposits of copper and iron, the utilization of mineral acids for chemical cleaning is not quite effective, because their surfaces may be covered with a metal copper film.
