Abstract:
Advanced knowledge in the field of stem cell biology and their ability to provide a cue for counteracting several diseases are leading numerous researchers to focus their attention on “regenerative medicine” as possible solutions for cardiovascular diseases (CVDs). However, the lack of consistent evidence in this arena has hampered the clinical application. The same condition affects the research on endothelial progenitor cells (EPCs), creating more confusion than comprehension. In this review, this aspect is discussed with particular emphasis. In particular, we describe biology and physiology of EPCs, outline their clinical relevance as both new predictive, diagnostic, and prognostic CVD biomarkers and therapeutic agents, discuss advantages, disadvantages, and conflicting data about their use as possible solutions for vascular impairment and clinical applications, and finally underline a very crucial aspect of EPCs “characterization and definition,” which seems to be the real cause of large heterogeneity existing in literature data on this topic.

Abstract:
This paper presents a solution for upgrading a previous device model to an Industry 4.0 smart device, with the goal of maintaining high compatibility. A novel IoT architecture is presented that satisfies the characteristics of a smart device. We analysed existing IoT architectures and proposed a new architecture to achieve long-term security and usability. To ensure long-term security, we eliminated the possibility of device configuration outside the immediate vicinity of the device with a dedicated protocol. The security concepts of the existing architectures were also analysed and further modified. To improve compatibility with previous device models, we propose a new method to collect data from sensors by introducing a multithreaded microcontroller. We propose additional software components to ensure factory programming, maintenance, and cloud Big Data analysis. Based on our experiments, we adapted the algorithm to increase the accuracy of the temperature and flow sensors by using a temperature calibration device and known flow cycles. Measurement results are presented to confirm the successful upgrade. We designed a hardware architecture to ensure compatibility with previous and future device models. Issues with previous sensors encountered during the upgrade were discussed and resolved. A novel software architecture based on security for long-term IoT devices is proposed.

Abstract:
Optimal tolerance design has been the focus of extensive research for a few decades. This has resulted in several formulations and solution algorithms for systematic tolerance design considering various aspects. Availability of different alternative manufacturing processes or machines for realization of a dimension is frequently encountered. In such cases optimal tolerance design must also consider optimal selection of a set of manufacturing processes or machines as appropriate. Such a non-linear multivariate optimal tolerance design problem results in a combinatorial and multi-modal solution space. Optimal solution of this advanced tolerance design problem is difficult using traditional optimization techniques. The problem formulation becomes more complex with simultaneous selection of design and manufacturing tolerances. The focus of the current research is on the optimal solution of this advanced and complex tolerance design problem. Genetic algorithm and simulated annealing as non-traditional global optimization techniques have been used to obtain the solution. Application of the solution techniques has been demonstrated with the help of appropriate examples. Comparison of the results establishes that the genetic algorithm is the superior of the two approaches.

Abstract:
When an intense 1,064-nm continuous-wave laser is tightly focused at solution surfaces, it exerts an optical force on molecules, polymers, and nanoparticles (NPs). Initially, molecules and NPs are gathered into a single assembly inside the focus, and the laser is scattered and propagated through the assembly. The expanded laser further traps them at the edge of the assembly, producing a single assembly much larger than the focus along the surface. Amino acids and inorganic ionic compounds undergo crystallization and crystal growth, polystyrene NPs form periodic arrays and disklike structures with concentric circles or hexagonal packing, and Au NPs demonstrate assembling and swarming, in which the NPs fluctuate like a group of bees. These phenomena that depend on laser polarization are called optically evolved assembling at solution surfaces, and their dynamics and mechanisms are elucidated in this review. As a promising application in materials science, the optical trapping assembly of lead halide perovskites, supramolecules, and aggregation-induced emission enhancement–active molecules is demonstrated and future directions for fundamental study are discussed.

AbstractAim. The focus groups aimed to outline the main areas of missed care and identify how the causes, effects and potential solution proposals are perceived.Methods. For the initial part of the research, the focus group method was selected. Three focus groups were organized which comprised 25 nurses working in inpatient wards of healthcare facilities in the Moravian-Silesian Region.Results. Based on the content analysis, four main categories were established: causes and consequences of missed care, missed interventions and suggestions for potential solutions. These were further divided into subcategories. The causes of missed care were related to the nurse’s personality, patient’s personality, healthcare system and management system. Missed interventions were classified into basic nursing care interventions, specialized interventions to be performed by nurses and common activities. The consequences of missed care affect both patients and the staff. The suggestions for potential solution included changes in management and marketing, education of healthcare professionals and patient care.Conclusions. With respect to care rationing, the quality of care provided must not be compromised to a point where the safety of the staff and patients is at risk. Discussing these issues openly may result in search for other potential solutions that may be implemented in practice.

Abstract:
A Au colloid was prepared in a 5 mM HAuCl4 solution through irradiation with a focused infrared femtosecond laser at 800 nm. The Au colloid was characterized by absorption spectra, transmission electron microscopy, and x-ray diffraction analysis. The appearance of absorption peak around 526 nm in the absorption spectra and the wine-red color of sample solution HAuCl4 under focused laser irradiation verified the formation of Au colloid. The solution color changed in the order of yellow → orange → wine-red due to the local formation of Au nanoparticles near the focus. The pulse energy, focus position of laser beam, and solvent composite play important roles in formation, grain size, and stability of the Au colloid. A mechanism for the precipitate of Au nanoparticles was proposed, and a multiphoton process of femtosecond laser was involved.
