Full textTechniques for nondestructive testing based on ultrasonic phased array probe are now increasingly used in industry. These probes offer many advantages, in particular use versatility and adaptability to complex configurations. More advanced acquisition techniques, such as “Full Matrix Capture”, provide access to collection of data richer and more complete than those provided by conventional techniques, offering so new possibilities in terms of localization and characterization of defects. The work of this thesis aims to implement imaging and reconstruction methods for various operating modes of UT array inspection. For this, we propose different methods derived from the so-called synthetic focusing. These methods rely on forward models developed at CEA LIST and implemented in the CIVA software platform. These models can also take into account the complex inspection configurations, especially in regard to the -irregular- surface inspected parts. At first, we were interested in locating point-like scatterer. Under this hypothesis, we evaluated the performance of the proposed methods when they are applied with different types of inspection operating mode. Next work has been refocused on the study of the Full Matrix Capture coupled to the algorithm called Focalisation en Tous Points (FTP), this combination has shown good performance in terms of defect localization. In a second step, we generalized our approach to extended defects and multiple ultrasonic paths. In particular, we applied the latest FTP algorithm to the localization and characterization of notch near the bottom of the part with corner echoes, echoes due to successive ultrasonic wave reflections on the bottom and defect. The different methods considered in this work have been applied with both simulated data and experimental measurements

Full textThe progress of the last years in the opto and microelectronics domain is namely based on the use of III-V semiconductor alloys. However, the fabrication of these materials is retarded by the inferior reproducibility which has made the research of fast and non destructive characterisation methods indispensable. In this regard, the prototype of an industrial, spectrally resolved photoluminescence scanning system was developed in this work. Analysing and treatment methods using this instrument were researched and perfected to expertise, to optimise and to control the fabrication technologies of semiconductor materials and compounds

Full textThis work aims to build up a compact easily-implemented terahertz wave-guided reflectometry (TGR) system by taking advantage of the terahertz transceiver and waveguides for diverse applications. Compared to conventional systems using a quasi-optical method, the new concept has a much simpler configuration and allows for remote probing applications. After reviews on the development of terahertz technology, an optical-pumped double-PCA transceiver and two frequency-modulated continuous-wave (FMCW) radar transceivers together with hollow-core thin-wall waveguides are selected to implement the first TGR system in pulse mode and in FMCW mode. Both experiments and 3D full-wave simulation are exploited to investigate the propagation behaviors of waves inside the system and to evaluate the system performance. The created TGR systems are demonstrated for imaging and sensing purposes. Thanks to the guiding capacity of the waveguide, these setups show potential in some difficult measurement conditions, such as in a narrow semi-enclosed environment or the liquid. In particular, the solid immersion lens inserted at the end of the waveguide has been proved as an efficient method to enhance the imaging capacity of the TGR system in FMCW mode, giving rise to a subwavelength resolution at the frequency band around 100 GHz.In addition to the studies of TGR systems, an on-wafer reflectometry system exploiting optical-pumped sources is as well proposed to benefit from the wide frequency band of photonic sources. As the first attempt, RF probes in association with double-PCA transceiver are used to deliver the pulse signal into samples on-wafer and the obtained time signals are analyzed. More propositions are given to push further up this study

Full textThis thesis is related to the field of nondestructive evaluation of concrete by ultrasound. We focus our study on nonlinear acoustic-based measurements that allow the concrete auscultation at mesoscopic scale where waves interact with microcracks and porosity network. The nonlinear parameters are known to be much more sensitive than those from linear measurements. Concrete is a heterogeneous and complex material. Its behavior is highly nonlinear with increasing damaged state. We develop in this thesis a type of nonlinear measurement: Dynamic Acousto-Elastic Testing (DAET). This technique is based on the principle of a dynamic excitation of the material, using ultrasounds to follow the variation of the elastic behavior depending on the excitation amplitude. We focus our study on the problem of concrete cover which holds a key role in the life of a civil engineering structure. We study the interaction of the DAET measurement with the Rayleigh waves which propagate in the concrete cover. We show the high sensitivity evolution of non-linear parameters in function of thermal damage and carbonation.Subsequently, we propose a new methodology of DAET measurement, in which the transient vibration is generated by an impact and ultrasounds are generated continuously. We present different applications of the proposed method including the case of large specimens. This approach opens broad possibilities of transposing measurements for on-site application
