Alex Proyas’s 2004 film I, Robot depicts a crisis of white identity in the figure of the marginalized NS-5 robot, Sonny. The anxiety prompted by this crisis is resolved via a parable of racial reconciliation between the “unique” white robot and the black detective Del Spooner (played by Will Smith). The film’s evocation of a post-white mythology is laden with ironies and contradictions, however. Abstract This work evaluates the capabilities of a digital camera selected for use in a thermal spray diagnostic system. The CCD-based image sensor, a Sony Exview HAD, was tested in an industrial plasma-spraying process and is assessed in terms of the information it provides about the plasma jet, particle-substrate interactions, and coating growth. Zirconium dioxide and aluminum oxide ceramics are examined as typical powder systems. Paper includes a German-language abstract.

A puzzle in the sociolinguistic history of Sanskrit is that texts with authenticated dates first appear in the 2nd century CE, after five centuries of exclusively Prakrit inscriptions. Various hypotheses have tried to account for this fact. Senart (1886) proposed that Sanskrit gained wider currency through Buddhists and Jains. Franke (1902) claimed that Sanskrit died out in India and was artificially reintroduced. We report the first demonstration, to our knowledge, of high bright output with low M2 and narrow linewidth from a broad-stripe laser diode (BS-LD) with a phase conjugate feedback. Fig. 1 is the experimental setup. A 1W-class BS-LD (SONY SLD304), whose polarization is parallel to die y-axis in Fig.1, is mounted onto heat sink.
