Full textMain objective of this research is to define, at design level and through scale modeling, new dry construction techniques for low-cost building, recovering historic constructive techniques, updated in a modern and innovative concept of building art. Versatile systems, adaptable to different design situations, in new constructions, potentially useful in developing techniques and components for existing buildings refurbishment, as well as provided with high performance in seismic contexts. The fundamental criteria are bioclimatic and sustainable construction, with particular attention to energy performance, innovation concerning materials and implementation processes. This research project contributed to the development of innovative tools that can be used both in new constructions and in recent building renovation, providing processes and methods valid for design, with the goal of an eco-sustainable architecture. With the collaboration of external companies, this research puts into effect and implements those increasingly sought-after synergies within the University of Bologna, aimed at ensuring a closer relationship between the theory and the practice of building.

Full textThis thesis aims to investigate the concept of sustainable development, with an overview of the concept’s evolutionary stages, in order to get its intrinsic characteristics and to understand the different meaning it has in its three fundamental pillars (environmental, economic and social). After investigating the sustainable development roots and critics in economic theories, an overview of the legislation and case law references to this concept, both at the national and international level, is offered. The reconstruction of the doctrinal debate on the theme of sustainable development follows, and some examples of sustainable development practical application (TTIP, CSR, GSP and Horizontal Social Clause) are analyzed. Finally a reflection on the similarities between this paradigm and the labour law and on the future potential relations between sustainable development and labour law is proposed.

Full textCredit derives etymologically from "believe". People who have money can easily demonstrate to be able to repay a loan and therefore not is hard to get it. Those who do not have adequate financial resources, those who are not "bankable" are excluded. If the credit is "micro", trust instead is "macro". In addition to trust, in the concept of microcredit there are a number of essential ingredients that can not miss. First, there must be a loan small. Then, the start of production and business activities can help to overcome individual temporary crisis situations that may provide minimal resources essential to stop the cycle of poverty . Microcredit who was born in underdeveloped countries has expanded rapidly in modern economies. Even the Italian legislature in 2010 adopted national discipline of microcredit. However, it’s hard to find the rules to regulate the microcredit and the risk is to delete the results achieved in practice. Even in agriculture microcredit can be a valuable aid for development. The rules and logic of microcredit work well in rural economies of developing countries, as shown by several projects for example in Uganda, but in modern economies the characteristics of the activities and the enormous initial capital required make the instrument of microcredit little usable. However the development of this tool is very important because microcredit can really be a valuable tool for fighting poverty even in advanced economies.

Full textThe thesis investigates the regulation and governance of the global sustainable debt market from the perspective of public international economic law, in the light of the principle of sustainable development, and in the broader context of sustainable finance. The investigation begins with the reconstruction of sustainable development as a concept, objective, and principle with international legal significance as well as a global public good and proceeds with the examination of sustainable finance as a global economic phenomenon within the general reform process of international financial markets triggered by the United Nations 2030 Agenda and the Paris Agreement to support sustainable development and fight climate change. The thesis examines the evolution and characteristics of the emerging sector of sustainable finance, the most widespread instruments and practices, the political and regulatory initiatives taken at the national, transnational, and supranational levels, the subjects and actors involved in the governance of the market, the related regulation with particular reference to that of the European Union and the systematic positioning of the matter within the framework of international economic and financial law. On these general premises, the survey focuses specifically on the sustainable debt market, whose role in financing the transition toward sustainable development is strategic and crucial. In fact, the market has emerged globally as a distinct and autonomous segment of the international financial markets, consisting of a plurality of instruments sharing common structural characteristics - such as green bonds, sustainability bonds, social bonds, ESG-linked bonds, and homologous loans – which also have sector-specific disciplines resulting from the widespread and general application of transnational private standards within the market and the convergence of many soft-law and hard-law initiatives at different levels of governance. Through the analysis of the functions of standard-setting, compliance monitoring, and enforcement, the thesis analyzes the international/transnational governance structure of the market and examines the substantive and procedural disciplines of the main sustainable debt instruments according to the most relevant standards. Lastly, it focuses on external reviews as typical instruments for verifying compliance within the market and on the need to establish appropriate supervision and control mechanisms to prevent greenwashing at the national and supranational levels. In proceeding with the investigation, the thesis also explores contemporary international legal issues, such as the crisis of traditional forms of international public law-making, the growing role of private actors in the governance of international economic affairs, the problematic collocation of private standards within the framework of public international economic law, the relationship between international law and transnational law and the so-called “fragmentation” and “stagnation” of public international law facing the proliferation of global and transnational governance institutions resulting from the emergence of non-traditional and informal partnerships and networks between the public and the private sector in a multistakeholder fashion.

Full textAgribusiness represents the most important economic sector in Italy and constitutes a resource of primary importance in terms of food security and food quality, employment, without forgetting important social, environmental and cultural aspects. The food system is a complex network characterized by many agents, relations and operations along the supply chain. The concept of food supply chain is a sequence of processes (decision-making and executive) and flows of materials, information and money, which occur at different stages of the path of the products from the point of production to point of consumption (Van der Vorst J.G.A.J et al. 2007, Lummus R., et al., 1999). All the processes that compose the food supply chain, particularly in the poultry industry, are coordinated vertically. The vertical coordination is "the set of changes effectively exchanges are managed and coordinated strategic behavior along the distribution channel agribusiness" (Frank S.D. et al., 1992, Mighell R.L et al., 1963, Sodano V., 2010). The aim of the dissertation is to assess the economic and environmental sustainability of the agri-food chain. In detail, the specific objective focuses on the processes of cost accounting and value creation in the industrial poultry sector trying to promote differentiation and product innovation through the marketing of organic chicken. Different methodologies have been used to achieve these objectives: a survey questionnaire submitted to conventional and organic chicken farms; direct costing and contribution margin for short-term decisions; the analysis of value creation in the supply chain and ultimately a time series analysis using a classical and stochastic approach. The socio-economic analysis highlights a massive presence of farmers over 65, with a low level of education, owners of quite dated structures to raise chickens, but with a moderate trend toward rejuvenation of their industries both in structural and managerial terms. They often have a good level of knowledge of the business, including management of financial accounts and profitability. The application of the direct costing methodology as well as the identification of the contribution margin, allowed us to identify the key economic indicator for the assessment of the affordability of short-term decisions i.e. fixed costs coverage and positive profits. In particular, the implementation of an organic poultry market represents a viable development strategy for the company; even if actually it is appreciated only by a particular segment of consumers, there is a growing interest and therefore new segments could be attracted. The analysis of time series has put in evidence a relations between cost and price and then the opportunity to predict the performance of these reports in the future The enhancement of sustainable poultry supply chain may take place through the support of business strategy, communication channel and trade.
