Abstract:
<p>The world's first ductile iron slab, which is a sustainable cast iron slab that contributes to a sound material-cycle society by reusing scrap iron, has been developed in Japan. The slab is lightweight, about 60% weight of RC slab, and has higher fatigue resistance compared to welded slab. The merits of adopting the sustainable cast iron slab in a composite cable-stayed bridge are clarified by comparing with a steel-concrete composite cable-stayed bridge with a central span of 600 m. In addition, taking advantage of the structural characteristics of the slab, such as the lighter weigh
