Full textThe Bible presents a plethora of looks that God places upon the world and humanity. How can these biblical expressions be understood today? Within my thesis, I support the idea that this questioning opens a way of reflection, thereby introducing a renewed link to visible reality and to the others. Because the analysis oh the French philosopher Jean-Paul Sartre reflects how we approach these issues within our media influenced society, the first part is devoted to him. If comprehension of Sartre has a bearing on our era, it proves to be singularly very negative. Other visions, with more subtle shades, allow one to have a different view of the impact of the “eye of God” on individual’s lives. In contrast to Sartre, the reformer, John Calvin, introduces a rupture between the “eye of God” and the way a human looks : the affirmation of the “eye of God” breaks all distinctive logic of the visible world, or the human visible mode. He shows himself like an Invisible which governs the visible. Following the evaluation on the mediation which applies in our view of the world and of other people, I infer in the third part, that the “eye of God” cannot be understood without the notion of sign and its triadic concept. The way suggested by the works of Augustin, Charles Sanders Peirce and Umberto Eco leads me to put forward the assumption that the “eye of God” offers itself as a means towards a deeper level of comprehension of the visible. Refusing to allow oneself to be fascinated by what one sees - manifestly - the divine look becomes, henceforth, aware of that which escapes notice, namely, the invisible
Casseville, Caroline. "Francois mauriac sous le regard de jean-paul sartre." Montpellier 3, 1995. http://www.theses.fr/1995MON30039.
Full textIn his article "m. Francois mauriac et la liberte" (m. Francois mauriac and freedom), published in the nouvelle revue francaise on 1 february 1939, jean-paul sartre, as a joung writer, attacked francois mauriac's concept of the novel. Sartre's criticismof mauriac is examined and the points of view adopted by sartre and mauriac on the latter's novel la fin de la nuit (the end of the night) are then analysed. The analysis demonstrates that the critic and the novalist were defending different ethical codes and consequently different aesthetic positions. By examining the meaning of mauriac's concept of the novel in the light of his personal view of the world, it is possible to establish the limitations of sartres' criticism and to show also the limits of his influenceon mauriac as a novelist

Full textThis dissertation starts out with a case study of the Sciences and Theatre Department of the National Institute of Applied Sciences in Lyon, which offers volunteer students artistic classes within their scientific training: sociology can first help define the features of this unique group. It then attempts to discover the individual, relational, social and cognitive bridges between the students' drama courses, their professional vistas and their personal achievements. Theatre anthropology provides tools for describing the work of the actors in training, while constructivist epistemology lays the basis of science of engineering. Working from both perspectives, one can contend that the two approaches might share common goals, in the fields of design, invention and creation; this leads one to put forth the concept of 'theatrical engineering', a process that conceives and creates live performances, in ways similar to the methods used by engineers for designing their artifacts

Full textThe connection between psychoanalysis and theater dates from Oedipus or, rather, from the Greek tragedy. Therefore, the Freudian myth that has nourished the psychoanalytic theory in a universal level is a "Greek scenario. If we see theater as the literary form that talks about psychoanalysis more than all the other literary forms, and respectively psychoanalysis as the theory of dramatic art, we might as well consider that the greatest European dramatists of the 20th century -Strindberg, Ibsen and Lorca- have created theater characters whose decoding has something to say about the experience of the unconscious. Therefore we are wondering whether psychoanalysis would be possible without theater, without the knowledge that theater has transmitted us on the subject and its passions, if we could think about Freud without thinking about the great dramatists. So how are we going to apply psychoanalysis in a theater play? What is the text's resistance to the analytical interpretation? Our goal is not only to question the literary creation in connection to the symptom, but to study as well the female characters in Ibsen, Strindberg, Lorca in order to support our hypothesis: The woman made hysterical and blamed by the male dramatist with no regard to her structure, her sexuality, her nationality. We wish to open a dialogue with the authors. The Strindberg, Ibsen, Lorca trilogy aims to show an image of the woman "transformed or not" by the psychical structure of the male dramatist. Therefore the theatrical trilogy meets the Freudian trilogy (neurosis — psychosis and perversion)

Full textCaroline court poetry uses conventions inherited from neopetrarchan and neoplatonic literary traditions which appear to be wearing thin. As an expression of an ostentatious court culture, it is based on a visual rhetoric in which the notion of wonder is prominent. Originally referring to religious ecstasy, wonder ceases to be a means of access to the transcendence or the faculty through which ennulation is suggested to the reader. Praise poetry stages the submission of the dazzled gaze of the beholder to the dazzling gaze of the king or patron. Wonder serves the rhetorics of absolutist discourse. Love poetry playfully assimilates sacred wonder to sensual ecstasy, while divine inspiration is derided as fake. The poet gives up his claim to bridge the gap between appearances and essences, and shamelessly dedicates himself to intertextual variations. Metaphors are also derivative as reworkings of conventional metaphors. A study of the gaze in poetry shows a fragmented apprehension of the universe, where orientation seems to be lost and boundaries blurred. The predilection for anamorphosis as a model of deciphering appearances reveals a sceptical attitude towards perception and representation. Scientific discoveries, in the field of optics and astrology in particular, account for paradigmatic shifts in the structures of thought, and render the fiction of a unified, all-encompassing gaze obsolete. The civil war is in turn responsible for deepening the crisis of vision in cavalier poetry by showing the failure of a society based on the royal gaze. The restoration sees the acclimatization of neoclassicism which offers an answer to the metaphysical as well as moral crisis through the centering of perspectives by the rational gaze of the individual

Full textThe twentieth century brought about profound changes in political, economic and social life of Latin American countries, notably Colombia. In the field of literature, there was then a real awareness and commitment on the part of Black intellectuals. From that moment on, the Black man, began to appear in literature as a fully-fledged character and an author. Indeed, for a long time, the participation of the Black in the construction of the Colombian nation was not been mentioned. In addition to his negative image (due to slavery), the Black has suffered for a long time from an obvious invisibility. As a result, in the late 1940s Black intellectuals pointed out in a very clear way the social inequalities, injustices, racism, and discrimination against their fellow men. It is within the framework of these demands and protests in favour of Black man, that the novel of Arnoldo Palacios, The Stars are black was been published in 1949. Thus, we posed our problematic to know how the condition of Black man was been approached in the novel of Arnoldo Palacios. The first part of our thesis will discuss the African presence in Colombia. The second will make an inventory of black presence in Colombian literature. Finally, the third part will analyse The Stars are black through his narrative structure but also the themes addressed by the writer Arnoldo Palacios
Mullot-Blum, Pascale. "Le corps sous le regard : la fonction de visage comme point d'articulation pulsion-fantasme." Strasbourg, 2011. http://www.theses.fr/2011STRA1062.
Full textThis research into the field of psychology focuses on the articulation process between body drives, fantasies and naming. This synthesis of theory and clinical practice attempts to define a new concept, the function of visage and examines the value of this conceptual tool in the differential psychology, the understanding of transference engagement and the analysis of the importance of image in modern society. It refers to different epistemological areas, literature, painting representation, concept history, mythology, anthropology and philosophy to derive arguments about both the real, imaginary and symbolical natures of the visage. A dialectisation of these contributions is proposed, based on psychoanalytic theories, with particular references to the theories of drive, fantasy and identification. Visage should not be reduced to the tangible and intersubjective part of the human face. It integrates the figure attraction and support effect and can be understood as an artifact, a mainspring of desire construction, by the subject letting the other wear his glance, which reveals his subjective division. This constitutes an enactment of the subject’s relation to his castration. As a place of transition from intersubjective activity (connection and drive transfert) to intrapsychical process (transmutation, fantasmatisation) it is related with both drive and suppression. But anchoring drives and dressing fantasies can be achieved only with a symbolical dimension, a transfiguration. In the same way as word and name, the function of visage allows the subject to leave out the images and signifiers equivalence, to keep a point of certainty, recognition, call, a “Heim”

In order to highlight them, we have observed how a same figure had been treated (Hannibal), and this by two different litterary genres (historiography and epic poetry). It allowed us to state transgeneric features, with two main parts : thematic (warrior world or not) and grammatical (narration, speech) stylistically developed. So, Livy becomes a poetry with his Hanniba's figure with his topoi of stranger. Our results point out, not particulars and exclusive ways, but generic interdependance, their complementarity and their mutual enrichment. Writers, such as expert, chase the raw material to induce admiration and support

Full textThe Dogon lives in Mali on the Bandiagara's plateau that is bordered with steep cliffs. Since Marcel Griaule fell in love with that country in 1931 while he looked at funeral's masked dances, the ethnological works about sangha have never stopped. They have attracted a lot of tourists lacking for exoticism, who see in this people and his rites an exceptional case of ancestral customs maintenance the first part of this work show how this picture has been progressively elaborated, and how the specialists have been inclined to look at masks searching only for a never modified illustration of founder, coherent and unchanging myths whose discovery fascinated them. Nevertheless in less invaded areas, the mask is revealed changing. The second part studies at the same time his ritual function and his relationships with the society in which a deliberately maintained surface order contains disruptions. As a disorder time allowing the integration of new elements, the masked dances reflect, accompany and favor the necessary change. They constitute a fundamental element of cultural identity and social harmony. Why do the dances in sangha lose this mobility? That is the object of the third part. It seems that the ethnologists have fixed in writing the mythical account improvised, in accordance with the custom, on a basic framework, according to the context and the audience. Furthermore it's obviously in Dogon's interest to show to the tourists the highly traditional rites that make them famous. Lastly young people in confusion faced with the rapid cultural transformation, search for their tradition into the ethnological works and hope to maintain their identity by repeating accurately the past gestures. If the masked dances became quite separate from the evolve reality, the heritage we want to protect would be vastly unnatural. And the foreigner's glance would have carried weight on this conversion of a lively tradition into a rigid folklore

The first two studies (1 and 2) allow the performances to emerge between professionals and PPSMJ. Our results lead us to consider the role of each in the representation they have of each other. The survey was conducted with the State agents of the "Foreign office", who welcome and face administrative requests from users (foreigners). How do these agents invest the bureaucratic organization? What are the dynamics of the encounter with alterity? From a multidisciplinary perspective that privileges the sociological and psychosociological approach, the thesis sought to elucidate the experience of the agents based on their personal experiences and their words. It appears that agents live institutional contradictions between relations of domination and affective disinvestment. Another result of the research is the discovery of social and human disqualification at work under the influence of the bureaucratization processes that are studied

Full textThe thesis gives to destabilize the configuration synthético-analytical whereby values are ordered in a system. Between the aggregate chaotic system architectural she began to detect a relative buried values to negative infinity: the true desire of truth, good for a radical evil, of a beautiful monster. For this purpose it uses a de-synthetic intuition to reveal the hidden tension between these terms, unit molar scattering system and provide the full enjoyment of libertine excess negative infinity. If true, the good and the beautiful are the values resulting from the centripetal movement of reason, the aggregate results for the chaotic part of a centrifugal movement of unlimited undetermined. It is outside of reason. Talk about freedom without law and chaos is made possible by the resources of a de-synthesizing intuition that opposes the synthetic activity of reason. This freedom without law is usually represented a moral point of view as radical evil, and an aesthetic point of view as monstrous. But radical evil and monstrous actually consist to confront the Void and bottomless negative infinity when the game voltages detected in the values is carried to the extreme of its indeterminacy without resorting to any point permanent attachment. In this respect the thesis is a contribution to thinking companies working to oppose a plurality de-synthetic synthetic unity and correlation-rhizomatic connection to various analytical division

Full textBased on the state of the art on the notion of « dispositif », this thesis offers to map it as a sociological concept. This characterization is then applied to a social service which intervenes in the private sphere. This dispositif, child access services, addresses parents whose separation or divorce is a source of conflicts. Parents are mostly sent by a judicial authorities. It is conceived to be a place where the non guardian parent can practice his visitation rights outside of both parents homes. The workers, mainly trained psychologists and educators, guide the parents towards the expected behavior : common commitment to the education of the child and independent organization of child visitations. From the collection of empirical data in Hungary (2007-2009) and France (2009-2011), this thesis rebuilds the genesis of the dispositif in those different socio-Historical contexts. It then analyses the work which is accomplished within the dispositif, that is the incitement to self-Resolve the difficulties encountered, knowing that the parents do not receive any financial help from the service neither are they qualified as deviants : the workers rationalize the relationship in order to bring the parents to manage their emotions. Marginal situations, which are parents of different cultures, cases of domestic violence and suspicions of pedophilia, illustrate the process of normalization happening within the dispositif for all parents and children. It appears that the aim of the service activity is to act on the evolving subjectivity of children. In fact, the French and Hungarian social States consider that the visiting parent is a resource for the future adult's autonomy. For that reason, maintaining the relationship is a prevention measure for the eventual socio-Economical vulnerability of those future adults

Full textSince the end of the 1980s, the traditional role of national legislatures regarding internal security and the protection of fundamental rights has been questioned by the progressive enforcement of the European Union’s legislative power. This thesis explains how national parliaments contribute to the decision-making process and to the scrutiny of the Area of Freedom, Security and Justice (AFSJ). The gap between the formal scrutiny prerogatives of national parliaments and the reality of their participation in the AFSJ decision-making process leads us to adopt an approach based on the legal framework, its concretization and its interpretation by the parliamentary actors. The involvement of national parliaments in the AFSJ is examined using a two-step comparison. First, the determinants that contribute to the variation of parliamentary activity in the AFSJ are specified through a quantitative analysis of all 27 European national parliaments for the period 2010-2012. Second, the scope of each determinant is assessed though a study of the parliamentary scrutiny of three AFSJ issues – the Convention implementing the Schengen Agreement, the negotiations of the Passenger Name Record Agreement with the United States and the Schengen governance reform- in three different majoritarian parliamentary systems - France, Italy and Great Britain. The most different systems design has confirmed that, despite institutional and functional national specificities, the parliamentary scrutiny of AFSJ takes on similar forms in majoritarian parliamentary systems of government. A mix of formal scrutiny prerogatives and MPs incentives explain the involvement of national parliaments in the AFSJ

Full textDuring accidents involving chemicals, experts can be asked to assess the effects generated. These experts provide distance effects using computer modeling and are faced with a major difficulty: little (or no) information available in order to assess the situation. The objective of this thesis is to suggest a methodology able to take into account uncertainties in the input data for the modeling carried out in emergency situations and to return explicitly these uncertainties to the manager of the crisis.A first step was to evaluate, for a given situation generating a toxic or flammable cloud, the dispersion of modeling results. A ranking of the input variables according to their influence on the final result was established. This phase was carried out on the basis of a sensitivity analysis with a specifically developed strategy.A second phase aimed to establish a methodology for estimating distance effects (in crisis situations), which takes into account the level of uncertainty in the input variables. A methodology for the classification of input operational data was carried out. This methodology is based on two criteria: the sensitivity of the model to the input parameter and the uncertainty about its value (imprecision or variability). On this basis, a new way of using these variables was suggested. Finally, several methods aimed to restore explicitly the results of this modeling were suggested

Full textThis thesis means to study the representation of Meduse's myth from a group of masculine narratives. Therefore its hypothesis is that the meetings between men and women as described in literature are a fight, and the two parts of this thesis successively analyse aesthetic and literary delusions (mystifying erotic look of the end of the nineteenth century and the unilateral speech of desire of the twentieth). The first two chapters are a study of Meduse's myth (horrible, disturbing and petrifying strangeness) and its double : Melusine's myth (dream of an androgynous and reassuring feminity), whereas the following chapter constitutes their indivisibility. The fourth chapter produces exploitation of Melusine's myth by a. Breton, while the fifth explains variants (four surrealist stories, P. J. Jouve 's prose). Lastly, petrifying strangeness reappears in the shape of dismay and giddiness in the sixth chapter which deals with G. Bataille's work

Full textMany approaches have been advocated over time to improve nurses’ hand hygiene adherence rates in order to prevent healthcare-associated infections – nosocomial infections. Nevertheless, these rates have been and continue to be low in Québec (Lacoursière, 2018), as they are everywhere else (Stella et al., 2019). In the mid-1980s, a behavioural change approach – positive deviance – appeared in public health literature. This approach proposes to identify the presence of positive deviants – individuals or groups who outperform others – and to explore the factors that explain the better performance, in order to develop ways to encourage change among other individuals or groups (Bradley et al., 2009). Although studies using the positive deviance approach have been published in the nursing literature, it is unclear whether this approach can be applied to nursing practice with regard to hand hygiene. The purpose of this study was to explore, from the perspective of the positive deviance approach, the clinical nursing practices related to hand hygiene and the factors that influence them in a Québec hospital setting, as well as to examine the applicability of this approach to hand hygiene in nursing practice. To this end, we conducted two focused ethnographies with 21 nurses on two care units (a medical surgery unit and a palliative care unit) at a university hospital centre in the Montréal region. These two units were chosen because the nurses’ hand hygiene adherence rates were higher than their colleagues’ rates on other care units at the same hospital centre. The data were collected from January to October 2015, mainly through 18 individual interviews and 14 shadowing periods. An observation grid was used to record the contextual details. According to the method described by Patton (2002, 2015), all the collected data were coded and grouped under categories and then a frequency analysis of the codes was carried out in order to allow interpretation. The results of this study show that the clinical practices are similar on both healthcare units; the participants use mainly hydro-alcoholic solutions before entering and leaving the patients’ rooms. Some of the factors that explain the higher hand hygiene adherence rates are shared by both care teams. On the individual level, the participants recognize the importance of having knowledge about the role of hand hygiene to prevent the transmission of infections, protect themselves and protect the patients; on the organizational level, there is a collaborative practice within each team; on the environmental level, the accessibility and availability of the hydro-alcoholic solution distributors greatly facilitate hand hygiene practices; on the sociopolitical level, both teams are facing cuts under the health reform and uncertainty related to a move to a new hospital; on the cultural level, the members of both teams work together toward a common goal, which we called “social cohesion” as described by Kwok et al. (2017). However, the factors that lead to this cohesion differ in each team. On the medical surgery unit, the leadership of the head nurse mobilizes the team to improve their hand hygiene adherence rates. On the palliative care unit, the team shares a humanist care practice to protect patients who are at the end of their lives. This led us to postulate that positive deviance applies to a care team – not just to individuals – who are working together to protect patients from healthcare-associated infections. The knowledge from this study suggests that to improve nurses’ hand hygiene adherence, it would be preferable to target the care teams that perform best, to develop interventions that include factors on several levels, not just the individual level, and to increase human and financial resources.
