Saperda candida (Coleoptera: Cerambycidae) is native to the eastern USA and southeastern Canada. It was detected in Germany in 2008, where eradication efforts were undertaken. This beetle primarily infests woody hosts within the Rosaceae family, with Cydonia, Malus and Pyrus being significant cultivated hosts in North America. The larvae cause severe damage by girdling the trunks of young trees, leading to tree death. Improved pest management in the mid-20th century reduced its impact in orchards.
