The terrestrial isopod Cristarmadillidium cabanillasi sp. nov. (Isopoda: Oniscidea: Armadillidiidae) is described from Sierra Oeste and from the foothills of Sierra de Guadarrama (Madrid, Spain) in the Iberian Peninsula. The new species is the second of this genus to be discovered in the southwestern/central Iberian regions. In addition, morphological aspects of other endemic species of the related genera Estenarmadillidium and Iberiarmadillidium, are also discussed.

Background An outbreak of human leishmaniasis due to Leishmania infantum has been registered in an urban area of southwestern Madrid, Spain, since 2010. Entomological surveys carried out in the municipalities of Fuenlabrada, Leganés, Getafe and Humanes de Madrid showed that Phlebotomus perniciosus is the only potential vector. In this work, an intensive molecular surveillance was performed in P. perniciosus females captured in the region between 2012 and 2018. Abstract New structural data in the southwestern extension of the New Madrid seismic zone show that the Upper Cambrian strata of the Blytheville arch recorded at least three episodes of deformation following initial rift formation. The earliest deformation is represented by a phase of uplift and tilting of deepwater, anoxic mudstone truncated by a prograding sandstone that precedes the formation of the Blytheville arch. This episode is followed by progressive deepening and filling of the graben by late Cambrian time. Two sets of carbonate-filled veins identify subsequent deformational episodes

Sixty‐eight kilometers of 12-fold seismic reflection data were collected in the Wabash River Valley of southwestern Indiana and southeastern Illinois to investigate the configuration of a basement structure inferred from regional gravity and magnetic anomaly data. The seismic profiles were also positioned to cross faults of the Wabash Valley fault system in a number of locations. Interpretation of the seismic reflection profiles and detailed gravity and magnetic profile data provides evidence for a series of northeasterly trending grabens in the basement. These grabens are filled with pre‐Mt.

Since I (Bruce E. Johansen) has written profusely about climate change (global warming, a.k.a. infrared forcing), I suggested a concerted effort in that direction. Abstract Early in the first afternoon of music at Dick and Maddie Gibson’s 28th annual Colorado Jazz Party, I found myself especially looking forward to the sets with Herb Ellis, hoping to hear some blues. Even before the party was off to an official start, at the Friday night musicians’ jam, he got off a few lucid 12-bar strophes that made me realize how hungry I was for that southwestern minor-third twang, the gospel according to Charlie Christian. Ellis’s phrases have an easy, loping quality that whisks you along; they are buoyed by familiar dissonances yet surprisingly unfogged by cliché.
