AbstractThis article examines Gerald Odonis' view on the nature of place as found in his commentary on the Sentences (Sent. II, d. 2, qq. 3-5) and in an anonymous question (Utrum locus sit ultima superficies corporis ambientis immobile primum) extant in manuscript Madrid, Biblioteca Nacional, 4229. Both texts defend a thoroughly un-Aristotelian conception of place as three-dimensional space. Odonis not only deviates from Aristotle's definition of place as the inner surface of a surrounding body, but also from the positions of his contemporaries, including fellow Franciscans. Despite some remarkable doctrinal similarities between Odonis' view and that of Renaissance innovators like Francesco Patrizi and Bernardino Telesio, it seems unlikely that Gerald played a role in the rise of new conceptions of place in the sixteenth and seventeenth century. An edition of the anonymous Quaestio de loco is given in an appendix.

Abstract:
Abstract: Snowshoes represent one of the jeans of transport used to travel on the soft snow, which is a kind of surface where the movement withoutauxiliary elements becomes very hard. Snowshoes are simple elements which let us to go deep into the mountains when the snow has just fallen downand we can leave our prints on it being the first ones who step on that new space and who discover that new territory which has been created by thelast night snowfall. With these few lines we can not express a thorough knowledge of the subject to minimize the risk of going on correctly on snow-covered surfaces (clothes, bearings, etc.) we just want to give some basic ideas related to snowshoes and its utilization by groups, as a result of ourexperience in this particular subject.

Abstract:
Abstract. Introduction: There is few evidence that details the behavior of each spatiotemporal variable of the running pattern of female soccer players using different surfaces. Objective: To describe the spatiotemporal variables of the sprint pattern developed on natural and artificial turf by professional female soccer players. Methods: A cross-sectional study was conducted on nineteen (n=19) professional athletes with an average age of 22.3 years, who´s sprint spatiotemporal variables were evaluated in a natural (Bermuda 419) and artificial (Star 2) playing field through an optical measurement system (Opto Gait, Italy). The analysis of the differences of the space and time variables by turf was done with the Wilcoxon test for paired data and the differences in speed and acceleration by playing position was done using the Kruskal–Wallis test. The Spearman test was used to compare the correlation between speed, acceleration and anthropometric variables. Finally, an alpha level of 5% was considered for the whole analysis. Results: On the natural turf, the speed and cadence of the players were higher; on the artificial turf, the energy, flight time, contact phase and step angle were higher (p<0.05). On the other hand, an indirect relationship was observed between speed, contact time, percentage and fat weight (p=0.01). Conclusion: Our results suggest that the natural turf, Bermuda 419, allows for a faster sprinting patterns, characterized by lower energy use, flight time, contact phase and step angle.

Palabras clave Salud, participación, accesibilidad universal, seguridad, comodidadAbstractFaced with unequal growing urbanization of what we know by the traditional city, curiosity grows regarding the habitability and the lifestyle associated to new suburbs in the city of Madrid, and how the daily life of diverse groups is solved in these suburbs, with special attention to the group of the elderly. It is precisely within two of these surburbs, Bardegueral and Los Llanos, where the present work focuses its study, on the public space in the neighborhood and more specifically on its ability to allow or to favor a process of active aging. With this perspective, we structure a methodology based on the urban principles of proximity, permeability, diversity and environmental setting, certain elements of the physical environment, the conditions of universal access and meeting, and the actions of walking, apprehending, locating and communicating. From the results it is concluded that some public spaces are inefficient and disused surfaces, a few do have an identity that promotes active ageing, at least to some extent of the process, and others that have great potential to achieve that identity either through improvements, renovations or space management.KeywordsHealth, participation, universal accessibility, safety, comfort

Abstract:
Abstract:
Deep neck spaces are regions of loose connective tissue present between three layers of deep cervical fascia, namely, superficial, middle, and deep layers. The investing layer is the superficial layer, the pre-tracheal layer is the intermediate layer, and the prevertebral layer is the deep layer. Deep neck space infection (DNI) is defined as an infection in the potential spaces and actual fascial planes of the neck. Spread of infection occurs along communicating fascial boundaries. These deep neck spaces may be further classified into 3 anatomic groups, relative to the hyoid bone: Those located above the level of the hyoid, those that involve the entire length of the neck, those located below the level of hyoid. The patterns of infection may include abscess formation, cellulitis, and necrotizing fasciitis. Antibiotics and surgical drainage form the mainstay of treatment. There are some spaces in the neck present between these layers of deep cervical fascia. These deep neck spaces are filled with loose connective tissue. Deep neck space infection involves the spaces and fascial planes of the neck. Spread of infection occurs along communicating fascial boundaries after overcoming the natural resistance of the fascial planes. With relation to the hyoid bone, these deep neck spaces are further classified as follows: 1. Spaces above the level of the hyoid bone (peritonsillar, submandibular, parapharyngeal, masticator, buccal, and parotid spaces). 2. Spaces that involve the entire length of the neck (retropharyngeal, prevertebral, and carotid spaces). 3. Spaces located below the level of hyoid bone (anterior visceral or pre - tracheal space). Infection may present either as abscess, cellulitis, or necrotizing fasciitis. The mainstay of the management are antibiotics and surgical drainage.

Abstract:
A classical problem in Lorentzian geometry is the description of the isometric immersions between Lorentzian spaces of constant curvature. We investigate the problem of classifying the isometric immersion from the Lorentz plane into the three-dimensional anti-de Sitter space, providing a representation formula of these isometric immersions in terms of pairs of curves (possibly with singularities) in the hyperbolic plane. We then give an answer to the open problems proposed by Dajczer and Nomizu in 1981. Among all isometric immersions of the Lorentz plane into the anti-de Sitter space, some of them are actually Lorentzian tori (the basic examples are the Hopf tori). As an application of our previous description, we prove that any such torus can be recovered from two closed curves in the hyperbolic plane. Finally, we prove that Lorentzian Hopf tori are the only immersed Lorentzian flat tori in a wide family of Lorentzian three-dimensional Killing submersions.

Abstract:
This research studied the relationship between the man and his environment. Such a relationship deals with how this man, in taking part of the social life of the city of São Luiz do Paraitinga, São Paulo, created emotional links with the buildings own housing and historical buildings. Therefore, it has been considered that, in the social-historical process of the citys formation, there were transformations in the representation of its image, as well as in the symbolical aspects which lead to the emotional links of the man with his dwelt space. The constituent elements of the represented space suffered a sharp process of transformation due to the flood that occurred at the end of 2009/beginning of 2010, which caused, among other things, the destruction of the buildings in the historical downtown and the flood of the rural areas. It is presupposed that the symbolism of the city is linked with the meaning that the place offers to the inhabitants and also that the attachment, coming from the experience of the place, gives birth to a relationship between place/ways of cohabitation material production, moral values, style of living, social memory, places identity, culture and so on. All of these aspects compose a local imaginary and come out, objectively, in the image of the city. It has been used the acceptation of the symbolical spatial trenches representations produced by the relationship of the man with the house grounding the research in the hypothesis that this made possible a better comprehension of the elements which surge from the inhabitants experiences in this process, having as a focus the living of the material and immaterial losses and the possible transformations in the way of living of the people after the events. The situation that the inhabitants lived with the loss of their housing can lead to representations which indicate scissions of concrete order (physical space of the city) and subjective (symbolism) in the urban tissue. These scissions would be built from the sharing of the meanings produced in certain spaces of economical and social antagonism. These are methodological procedures: documental and bibliographical research of texts (scientific, journalistic, governmental and others which showed themselves relevant) elaborated in official institutions and informal applied groups; and ethnographic investigation in the citys space (observation and interviews with inhabitants). Such procedures led to the identification, the description and the interpretation of the human actions after the citys flood and the approximation of this study field to the psycho-social analyze. The ethical principles, which orientate the use of scientific instruments in researches involving human beings, were respected

Abstract: We construct the Nahm transform of a stable, degree-zero Higgs bundle on a Riemann surface of genus at least 2. Atiyah-Singer¿s index theorem is the basic tool employed, along with a vanishing theorem which is due to the stability hypothesis. Our main result is that the transformed bundle is hyperholomorphic and without flat factors. This not only recovers the algebraic results of [7] and that of [12] for the cos q = 0, but also provides a more detailed description of the geometric structure of the transformed bundle. Such results suggest that this Nahm transform can be inverted, cf. [10]. Abstract:
In this thesis we study the space of compact connected oriented genus g subsurfaces of a fixed manifold M, and in particular its homological properties. We construct a “scanning map” which compares this space to the space of sections of a certain fibre bundle over M associated to its tangent bundle, and show that this map induces an isomorphism on homology in a range of degrees. Our results are analogous to McDuff’s theorem on configuration spaces, extended from 0-submanifolds to 2-submanifolds.

Abstract:
The purpose of the study was to illustrate and analyze the occurrence and meaning of superficial conversation for senior citizens. The purpose was also to investigate what meaning superficial conversations can have regarding everyday life for the elderly and if it can contribute in creating social communities. Based on the objective of the study the following questions were formed: How can superficial conversations be described and what can be conveyed in these conversations? Of what importance is the place in creating superficial conversation? How can superficial conversation in conjunction with the place contribute to establishing social communities for the elderly? The study has a qualitative approach and the scientifically theoretical standpoint is critical realism. The empirical material has been gathered from a municipally driven diner. Seven participating observations has been conducted, where around four informal interviews have been conducted for every observation session. Furthermore four formal interviews were conducted; these have been qualitative interviews; a combination of semistructured and unstructured interviewing. Field notes were taken in conjunction to the observations and all formal interviews have been transcribed. The respondents are men in the ages 40-90 years old, living alone in private properties. The results of the study demonstrates that there are developed social relations at the restaurant which can be categorized as thin ties. The results also display how these social relations are expressed and the meaning of these thin ties in relation to the place. The results have been analyzed in relation to the studies theoretical framework and previous research. The conclusion is that the superficial conversation has a deeper meaning as a means for the elderly to create social communities. It also shows that the place is important, both in itself but also in conjunction with superficial conversation to help create these communities. The place is a contributing factor in the development of thin ties and superficial conversation nourishes this development and keeps these social relations alive. An increased understanding regarding the importance of superficial conversation would facilitate the social pedagogical work for finding new ways of preventing social exclusion and in the development of social meeting places for elderly people.

Abstract: In the process of producing the geographical space, humans promote changes in land use and, consequently, changes in the hydrological cycle, which generate negative environmental impacts such as an increase in soil erosion rates, sediment yield and surface runoff at the watershed outlets, especially when the vegetal cover is reduced or eliminated. These impacts are observed in São Domingos stream watershed, located in the municipality of Santa Cruz do Rio Pardo, in São Paulo state, which has undergone urban expansion and intensification of agricultural use since the 1970s. In this context, this thesis aims to analyze the influence of land use changes in this watershed, since the 1960s and in future use scenarios, in the configuration of erosion processes, sediment yield, and surface runoff by means of modeling, as a subsidy to the urban and rural land use planning. Aiming this objective, the following steps were necessary: to characterize the past and current land uses; to simulate future scenarios; to survey, characterize and map the soils of the study site; to adjust the Intensity-Duration-Frequency (IDF) equation to be used in hydrological studies; to perform erosion and hydrologic modeling; to analyze the land use planning and soil parceling instruments of the municipality’s master plan and to propose the necessary changes in order to reduce runoff and flood hazard in the watershed. The methodology was based on the production of land use maps for the years 1962, 1984, 200... (Complete abstract click electronic access below)

Abstract:
The purpose of this thesis is to analyze the process of construction and delimitation of communal territories in Senegal. Indeed, in Senegal, the communes constitute the basic territorial collectivities. They have legal personality and financial autonomy. They are created by decree, which must be concretely translated into a territorial division. However, the creation of new territories in Senegal is very rarely accompanied by a materialization of their spatial limits. This phenomenon creates a great deal of uncertainty around the boundary and causes various conflicts that hinder the management and development of communities whose physical territory remains more or less poorly known. It is in this context that we are interested in the process of administrative divisions to understand how territorial boundaries are defined and set up ? What roles do they play in the management, ownership, cohesion and development of the territories they contribute to create and of which they constitute a determining component ? What is the real existence of these territories ? What do they represent for the actors? It is to these concerns that this thesis has tried to answer, through the example of 5 communes in the Saint-Louis region. This research was conducted on the basis of a systemic approach, the conduct of semi-structured interviews and the use of mind maps. The goal is to analyze and understand the complex process of building boundaries and territories

Abstract:
Two basic ultrasound-guided approaches are used for procedures to diagnose and treat chronic pain in the upper extremity. The short-axis approach is best for injections of superficial, vertically oriented joints, whereas the long-axis approach is best for relatively deep injections and more open joints or whenever it is necessary for the needle to be seen at all times. Ultrasound can guide injections for nerve compressions. Carpal tunnel syndrome is the most common peripheral nerve entrapment syndrome. Ulnar tunnel syndrome occurs in the setting of space-occupying lesions. Ultrasonography can identify a space-occupying lesion, while electrodiagnostic studies can help differentiate ulnar neuropathy at the wrist from ulnar neuropathy at the elbow. Ultrasound can also guide injections at joints such as the basilar join of the thumb, phalangeal joints, and wrist joints. Ultrasound-guided injections are also useful for tendon dysfunctions including de Quervain’s Tenosynovitis, trigger finger, intersection syndrome, and tendon impingement.

Hand infections can be delineated by type and location of infection, by a polymicrobial vs single microbial colonization, and by the type of organism. They are most often caused by superficial injury or trauma. Early identification and timely treatment can significantly improve the morbidity associated with hand infections. In addition to determining the source and mechanism of infection, it is important to identify tetanus immunization status, prior injury to the affected area, immune status, occupation, and hand dominance. Some hand infections (eg, paronychia, felon, herpetic whitlow, and cellulitis) can be treated in the emergency department and discharged with close follow-up. Deep space abscesses and infections caused by bite wounds involving tendons will require either observation, admission, or surgery depending on their severity. Take into account a patient’s comorbidities—diabetes, immunosuppression, injection drug use, inability to follow up for re-evaluation, and ability to fill antibiotic prescriptions—upon disposition.

Jurisdiction over the water has always been a somewhat chimerical and fluid legal topic. For the Romans it was the exemplum of what is held by all in common, a public good and so by connotation a sacred thing. Arguing against the standard interpretation of common law imperialism based on superficial readings of Mare clausum, this chapter argues that in a fully humanistic vein Selden in the main supported the idea of holding the oceans and seas in common. Selden puts much textual energy and inventiveness into protecting the ports and the shores of islands such as Britain, but, as to the ocean itself, he cites the story of King Canute and argues that God alone owns those aquatopic spaces.

Abstract:
Chapter 3 approaches the cinema of Jia Zhangke from two angles: first, a complex mechanism of multivalent and metanarrative subject positions in and beyond the cinematic frame compels the spectator to a highly active and conscious process of taking up history and image critically; second, it proposes the concept of “surface” to highlight Jia’s cinematic texture through various figurations of superficial time and superficial space in Xiao Wu, Platform, Unknown Pleasures and Still Life. Lou Ye’s highly expressionist and kinetic works conflate screen subjectivities with directorial and spectatorial ones. An analysis of two films by Lou Ye, Suzhou River and Purple Butterfly, demonstrates that, despite the two auteurs’ difference in style, they share a highly comparable epistemological interest in the relationship between history, representation and subjectivity.

Abstract:
The parotid gland consists of two lobes: superficial and deep with regard to its relation with the facial nerve. It is wrapped around the mandibular ramus and secretes saliva through the parotid (Stensen's) duct. It is a paired organ, weighing 15-30g each. Its superficial lobe overlies the lateral surface of the masseter muscle and is bounded superiorly by the zygomatic arch, while its deep lobe is located in the pre-styloid compartment of the parapharyngeal space between the mastoid process posteriorly, ramus of mandible anteriorly, and external auditory meatus superiorly. Medially, the gland reaches to the styloid process. Inferiorly, the parotid tail extends down to the anteromedial margin of sternocleido-mastoid muscle. Several structures run through the parotid gland, namely, terminal segment of external carotid artery, retro-mandibular vein, parotid lymph nodes, and facial nerve, which soon gives two divisions (temporo-facial and cervico-facial) that give off five branches inside the gland radiating forwards. This chapter explores the surgical anatomy of the parotid gland.

This chapter summarizes the landmark trial that examined, in patients undergoing clean-contaminated surgery, how chlorhexidine–alcohol scrub compared to povidone–iodine scrub and paint in terms of infection rates. The trial included patients who were undergoing colorectal, small intestinal, gastroesophageal, biliary, thoracic, gynecologic, or urologic operations without substantial spillage or unusual contamination. Chlorhexidine reduced the rate of any surgical infection as well as that of superficial incisional infection, but no difference was observed for deep incisional infections, organ space infection, and sepsis from surgical-site infection.

This chapter reviews the course of the Besht’s life that was affected by the geopolitical and sociocultural-economic environment in which he lived. It describes how the Ba’al Shem Tov is often portrayed in popular works with only superficial attention to his surroundings, as if his life transcended time and space. The interest in connecting the Besht’s activities and teachings to later history has frequently obscured his relationship to the place and period in which he actually lived. The chapter mentions a few historically oriented scholarly writings that attempt to relate the patterns of the Besht’s life to conditions in Poland and its Jewish community in a general way. It provides a clearer perception of the country and the region where the Besht lived, which can help establish the parameters of his existence and contribute to an understanding of the range and nature of his activities.

Abstract:
Taking a dynamic and reflexive perspective on the interaction between technology, law, and economics, this chapter focuses on the role of competition in shaping the economic, and regulatory, ecosystem in which blockchain technology becomes embedded. There is the promise that the technology and the social space it will foster will give rise to more competitive structures in the organization of economic activity in the digital economy, in comparison to the current, highly centralized paradigm of digital platforms. The narrative of disruption has indeed been important in promoting the greater use of blockchain technology and has also framed the socio-technical ‘agencements’ that have so far guided regulatory action in this area. However, this narrative of disruption has also led to some hasty conclusions made in the literature as to the impotence of competition law to deal with an emergent digital space dominated by blockchain technology, predicting its eventual demise … The chapter critically engages with this rhetoric and explains why it does not stand serious scrutiny and relies on a superficial analysis of blockchain competition, as it does not consider the various ways in which the competitive strategies of economic actors shape the rules of the competitive game, the broader ‘industry architectures’ that structure competitive interactions. It unveils how blockchain can contribute to competitive advantage, and thus shape the distribution of surplus value in various industries. It then draws lessons for the work of regulators, in particular competition law enforcers. Finally, it provides a detailed analysis of competition law implications of blockchain technology.

Abstract:
This chapter provides a concise and selective summary of some major developments in the branch of cognitive neuroscience that focuses on concepts, with the goal of establishing a foundation for the neurobiological data covered in Part II. The first section reviews evidence that concrete concepts are grounded in modal systems for perception, action, and emotion, such that much of semantic processing involves the simulation of sensory, motor, and affective states, albeit in ways that can be flexibly modulated by factors like task, context, and individual experience. It also argues that transmodal systems are necessary to integrate the cortically distributed features of multimodal concepts, to transcend superficial criteria for categorization, and to form unitary representations that can easily be accessed and combined. The subsequent sections address the following topics: the increasingly popular notion of representational similarity spaces; the relatively neglected realm of grammatical semantics; and the provocative view that linguistic communication involves brain-to-brain coupling or alignment.

Abstract:
This chapter examines the possibilities of building cross-racial coalitions between the white working class and communities of color as the United States transitions from majority white to a minority white country. Fifty years after the campaign for civil rights and the passage of landmark legislation during the 1960s, there is little evidence of formal and sustainable cross-racial coalition building at the grassroots or grasstops level between the white working class and communities of color. White working-class communities wanted to engage with communities of color but did not have the means of engaging across racial boundaries beyond a superficial everyday level. Discussions between different communities were “soft-wired” and based on fleeting exchanges in informal spaces rather than becoming “hard-wired” in a strategic plan that can create a framework for coalition building. Stakeholders were largely ambivalent and occasionally hostile toward engaging with white working-class communities to build effective cross-racial alliances. Similar to white working-class communities in relation to communities of color, stakeholders found it challenging to engage with these groups.

Abstract:
The heart, the arteries and veins leaving and entering the heart which are usually referred to as the great vessels, the trachea and bronchi, the oesophagus, and the vagus and phrenic nerves and sympathetic chains occupy the mediastinum , the area in the middle of the thoracic cavity between the two pleural sacs. The anteroposterior dimension of the thorax is narrowest in the mediastinum because of the presence of the thoracic vertebrae posteriorly. Laterally, the pleural sacs enclosing the lungs extend much further back alongside the vertebrae in the areas known as the paravertebral gutters. The great vessels enter and leave the superior aspect of the heart. The large veins draining the head, neck, and arms lie most superficially; they unite to form the superior vena cava that enters the right atrium of the heart. These veins overlie the two large arteries exiting the heart, the aorta, and pulmonary trunk. The aorta has a short ascending part, then forms the aortic arch passing backwards and to the left before continuing down the posterior wall of the thorax as the descending thoracic aorta. The subclavian and common carotid arteries, supplying blood to the arms and head and neck, respectively, arise from the aortic arch. The oesophagus is the deepest structure lying on the vertebrae and the trachea and main bronchi lie superficial to it. The sympathetic chains lie lateral to the vertebral bodies and the vagus and phrenic nerves are in intermediate positions. All these structures will be described in more detail in the rest of this chapter. The mediastinum is divided, for descriptive convenience, into the superior and inferior mediastinum. Figure 12.1 shows the imaginary line of division joining the sternal angle and the intervertebral disc below T4 that demarcates the boundaries of the superior and inferior of the mediastinum. The superior mediastinum occupies the space between the thoracic inlet above and the imaginary horizontal plane. The inferior mediastinum lies below that line and extends as far as the diaphragm. The lateral borders of both subdivisions of the mediastinum are the parietal pleura covering the medial aspect of the lungs, the mediastinal pleura.

Abstract:
Abstract: The construction of space by overlapping parallel vertical planes and space bands was used by Le Corbusier both in his paintings and architectural projects, just as stated Colin Rowe and Robert Slutzky, in 1955-1956, to break down and analyze the “transparency phenomenal” to the Villa Stein in Garches, 1926, and the painting Nature morte à la pile d'assiettes, 1920, by Le Corbusier. A vertical spatial layering system by opaque surfaces, derivative of cubism, which generates a two-dimensional depth, where the composition expresses the fullness of a volume without resorting to perspective. An investigation about how Le Corbusier employs overlapping vertical layers or autonomous and spaced elements, that is to say, fragments of discontinuous experiences in relative positions, but strongly linked together to ensure stable consistency of the results pre-figured, pre-certain, pre-stabilized. A resource where the use of direct formal relations, and the positioning of the object, is more important than the representation of the object itself. Based on which, the present communication aims to investigate about how to cause multiple readings from this new flat spatiality –increasing multifocal viewpoints and independent parts, while maintaining the compositional unit–; and about the passage from direct transmission processes of formal relations to illegible transformations that cause new emotions. Abstract:
The silt carried by the Yellow River accumulates rapidly at the estuary to form an underwater delta, and the sediment is influenced and transformed continuously by river and ocean dynamic forces. One-meter-deep superficial sediment samples were taken at the Yellow River estuary to measure the basic physical and mechanical properties in the laboratory. The laboratory tests revealed the superficial sediment is over-consolidated and the over-consolidation ratio (OCR) reduces with depth. Soil penetration resistance was measured by a Proctor Penetrometer In-Situ. The results show the strength of superficial sediment appear to be strong non-uniformity (variation), and the strength of Xin Tan and Guang Li Gang region is less than those of the Da Wang Bei and Diao Kou. Then, the extent of soil property non-uniformity in space was calculated according to the Vanmarcke Foundation Random Theory. The vertical non-uniformity size lies between 0.32–0.93m, with little difference between those of terrestrial soils, and the horizontal lies between 12–32m, less than those on land. Finally, the reasons to cause strong non-uniformity are discussed. They are mainly composed of sediment modification by wave and biological activities.

Abstract:
The mechanism of atomization of part of the liquid film to form drops in annular two-phase flow is not entirely understood. It has been observed that drop creation only occurs when there are large disturbance waves present on the film interface. Woodmansee and Hanratty [1] observed that ripples on these waves were a precursor to drops. Though it has been reported that drops occur in bursts by Azzopardi [2], all previous drop size or concentration measurements have always been time integrated to simplify data analysis. Dynamic time averaged drop-size measurements are reported for the first time for annular two-phase flow. Experiments were carried out on a 19mm internal diameter vertical pipe with air and water as fluids. Spraytec, a laser diffraction-based, drop size measurement instrument, was used in the data acquisition. Simultaneous time-resolved measurements were made of: film thickness using conductance probes employing a pair of flush mounted rings as electrodes; and pressure gradient. The gas superficial velocity was 13–43 m/s at liquid superficial velocities of 0.05 and 0.15 m/s. Additional tests were carried out with the gas velocity at 14 m/s for liquid superficial velocities of 0.03–0.18 m/s. Though structures are not clearly visible in the signals acquired, they have been analyzed in amplitude and frequency space to yield Probability Density Function (PDF) and to identify the dominant frequency. Cross-correlation between two film thickness probes provides the wave velocities. Based on the signal analysis, links between film thickness, drop concentration and pressure drop have been identified.

Abstract:
Abstract Subsea liquid-gas flows conveyed through a flexible riser or pipeline may develop into various flow patterns including slug flow. In this study, the slug flow-induced vibration (SIV) of an inclined sagged riser conveying upward air-water flows is experimentally investigated. A small-scale experiment is carried out in an air-water test loop with a section of a free-hanging catenary tube made of silica gel. Attention is placed on the effect of superficial gas and liquid velocities on SIV responses. Both pipe motions and flow patterns are recorded using non-intrusive high-speed cameras. Pressure variations are also measured at the pipe inlet and outlet by two pressure transducers. The SIV system is tested by employing different ratios of the superficial gas-liquid velocities. Occurrence of unstable slug flows is captured at the relatively high gas-to-liquid velocity ratios, leading to a large-amplitude SIV. Experimental results of the space-time varying riser responses and oscillation frequencies are reported together with the associated slug flow features. Depending on the gas-liquid superficial velocities, slug flow characteristics are observed to vary significantly. These entail an intermittent SIV with modulated amplitudes and frequencies along riser span, signalling a potential dynamic stress and fatigue-related concern. In all experimental cases, the riser responses are found to be multi-modal and dominated by the fundamental planar mode whereas an out-of-plane vibration is negligible. Experimental observations suggest the key interrelationships of the two-fluid flow conditions, the slug characteristics and the pipe dynamics. This finding is meaningful for a practical design of riser transporting internal multiphase flows.

Abstract:
Two tomographic techniques have been applied to the flow in a 67 mm internal diameter vertical pipe. One is Electrical Capacitance Tomography (ECT) mounted on the outside of the non-conducting pipe wall. Another technique, known as the Wire Mesh Sensor (WMS) was used. The measuring systems provide time and cross-sectionally resolved information about the spatial distribution of the phases. The information can be used to obtain space and time averaged void fractions, radial profiles of time averaged void fraction and cross-sectional averaged time series of void fraction. Simultaneous measurements were made with the two techniques for gas superficial velocities of 0.05–5.5 m/s and liquid superficial velocities of 0–0.7 m/s with air and silicone oil as the fluids. Bubble, slug and churn flows were identified from the characteristic signatures of the Probability Density Functions of the cross-sectionally averaged void fraction. In addition, the detailed shape of individual large bubbles has been extracted. The output of both instruments shows clearly that the shapes of the large bubbles in slug flow are distinctly different from the smooth bullet-shaped. In this larger diameter pipe, the interface is much more disturbed. In addition, flow can be classified according to the sizes of bubbles present. Distributions of bubble sizes are presented and the fractions of gas flowing in different bubble sizes classes quantified.

Abstract:
With the society and economy of China entering the transition period, people's requirements for urban life show a trend of diversification and high standards. Urban design is no longer limited to physical space but starts to carry out multi-angle and multi-level comprehensive consideration on the social and spatial problems of symbiosis. In this context, the innovative social governance and the quality improvement of urban public space that highlights the role of the public have become hot topics. As the main body of city users, ordinary people entering into the deep and substantial participation from the superficial and symbolic is the only way for urban design to transform from the expert-led "optimal scheme" to the "reasonable scheme" recognized by pluralistic bodies. In the process of western democratic politics, the participation theory that focuses on the construction of micro democracy is prevalent, and the public participation based on pluralism has become the theoretical basis for the planning participation. Besides, the concept of communicative planning and collaborative planning, which emphasize cooperation and consultation, also enriches the connotation of multiple participation. Due to different systems and awareness, it is difficult to promote public participation under China's national conditions. Community building, the interdisciplinary product of urban design and social governance under communities, is regarded as the experimental field for participating in the reform. Therefore, under the current administrative system and regulations, this paper tries to make use of the grass-roots management mode with Chinese characteristics to establish an inclusive multi-participation mechanism. It allows residents of different ages can go deep into the process of community building by taking the family unit. Meanwhile, some suggestions and strategies are raised for effective participation. We hope the bottom-up process of urban design in microscale can be an effective instrument to reflect the public's will and repair social relations at the same time, while explore and solve urban problems in diverse cooperation.

Abstract:
Experimental study on resistance of air-water two-phase flow in a vertical 3 × 3 rod bundle was carried out under normal temperature and pressure. The rod diameter and pitch were 8 mm and 11 mm, respectively. The ranges of gas and liquid superficial velocity were 0.013∼3.763 m/s and 0.076∼1.792 m/s, respectively. The result indicated that the existing correlations for calculating frictional coefficient in the rod bundle and local resistance coefficient could not give favorable predictions on the single-phase experimental data. For the case of two-phase flow, eight correlations for calculating two-phase equivalent viscosity poorly predicted the frictional pressure drop, with the mean absolute errors around 60%. Meanwhile, the eight classical two-phase viscosity formulae were evaluated against the local pressure drop at spacer grid. It is shown that Dukler model predicted the experimental data well in the range of Rel<9000 while McAdams correlation was the best for Rel⩾9000. For all the experimental data, Dukler model provided the best prediction with MRE of 29.03%. Furthermore, approaches to calculate two-phase frictional pressure drop and local resistance were proposed by considering mass quality, two-phase Reynolds number and densities in homogenous flow model, resulting in a good agreement with the experimental data.

Abstract:
Due to depletion of on-shore and superficial oil reservoirs, and impulsed by recent discoveries of oil reservoirs in off-shore ultra-deep waters, each of the processes and equipment in oil production required further improvements in order to save costs, space and to reduce weight off-shore. One way to accomplish this is without separators and with the use of online multiphase flowmeters. The most used flowmeter is the Venturi tube. Despite Venturi flowmeters having been used in almost all commercial multiphase flowmeters, there is not a single correlation that provides good results for predicting mass flow in each phase, for any flow pattern, mass quality, void fraction and/or fluids properties. Instead, many correlations have been published, based on experimental and/or field data, but the use of these correlations outside multiphase range conditions is doubtful. This study proposes a new methodology that uses genetic algorithms to find correlations that better fit a set of data, which allow determining the mass flow of a two-phase mix through a Venturi tube. For that purpose, binary trees and Prüfer encoding are used to accomplish this implementation. The correlations found in this new methodology provide lower values of RMS error, 1–3%, against correlations proposed by previous authors that show an RMS error range of 5–10%. This technique allows finding further correlations, regardless the number of parameters to be used, at a low computational cost, and it does not require previous information on the behaviour of the data.

Abstract:
Mini-channel heat exchangers improve thermal performance in comparison to conventional macro-channel heat exchangers, being highly efficient, compact and requiring low fluid mass. However, classical correlations for two-phase flow in macro-channels fail in predicting the heat transfer coefficient in mini-channels. Therefore, new studies are needed in order to provide better knowledge on flow boiling phenomena in confined spaces. The proposed paper presents an experimental study on two-phase vertical flow boiling in mini-channels. The aim of this work is to determine the heat transfer coefficient and to study the pressure drop in a mini-channel heat exchanger (hydraulic diameter of 840μm) in order to obtain better understanding of the flow boiling mechanisms. A vertical upward flow test section is connected to a primary HFE-7100 circuit. A preheater imposes a given sub-cooled fluid temperature or a given two-phase vapour quality at the inlet. Downstream in the test loop, the fluid is condensed and pumped again into the test section. The pressure drop and the heat transfer coefficient in the test section have been measured for a variety of conditions. Different heat flux, inlet vapour quality and mass flow rate values have been tested. For the heat transfer coefficient, a correlating model is proposed as a function of the superficial velocity. This parameter appears to be much more appropriate than the vapour quality or the mass flow rate for dry-out occurrence prediction. A single critical velocity value has been found.

Abstract:
The restoration of Massafra’ Castle (TA)Massafra Castle’s restoration project aims to preserve and enhance the monument, redeeming it from the current state of partial abandonment, with the scope to return it to the community. First, an in-depth study of an historical research was carried out together with the analysis of the monument’ superficial and structural degradation to identify the adequate remedies. It was clear that “restoring only the stones” would have not been efficient and therefore finding a new purpose was necessary and essential. Finding a new scope for those kinds of architectures is a matter of great interest, because more than any other type of monuments, those are completely out of their historical context that gave them political, military and economic reason to be built. Therefore, following a sociological investigation, it emerged that the best solution would be create a connection between Massafra and cinematography: there are many cultural organizations in this area and most of them need more dedicated space. Massafra has already been chosen several times as a movie set by famous authors: Il Vangelo secondo Matteo by Pier Paolo Pasolini, Il Paese delle spose infelici by Pippo Mezzapesa and Amiche da morire by Giorgia Farina. This is how the MOVIE (Massafra Omni Vision between Innovation and Cultural Heritage) idea was born, a 360° cinema setting which is unique at a national level and that it would become part of larger cinematographic circuit already flourishing in the Apulia region. The project’s feasibility was then evaluated from a logistic-economic point of view. Furthermore, given the Castle’s location, the project proposes the reopening of ancient paths that connect the monument to the historical town centre and to the Ravine. The project also supports the restoration of rock settlements with its cave houses (currently completely collapsed) that surround the castle’s foundation to divulge hospitality.
