Full textSentiment Analysis has been researched in a variety of contexts but in this thesis, the focus is on sentiment analysis in Twitter, which poses its own unique challenges such as the use of slang, abbreviations, emoticons, hashtags, and user mentions. The 140-character restriction on the length of tweets can also lead to text that is difficult even for a human to determine its sentiment. Specifically, this study will analyze sentiment analysis of bilingual (U.S. English and Spanish language) Tweets. The hypothesis here is that Bilingual sentiment analysis is more accurate than sentiment analysis in a single language (English or Spanish) when analyzing bilingual tweets. In general, currently sentiment analysis in bilingual tweets is done against an English dictionary. For each of the test cases in this thesis’ experiment we will use the Python NLTK sentiment package.

Full textSituations of population contact imply social, cultural and linguistic dynamics from which the protagonists never remain unscathed. This is the case of Hispanics in the United States, whose contact with the US culture favored the development of a mixed culture and a linguistic phenomenon known as Spanglish. Spanglish evokes concurrently linguistic, social, cultural and political questions and the purpose of the present work is to elucidate its implications in linguistics. This study focuses on transfers from English into United States Spanish, and on how these variations obey the system’s parameters. The present analysis is the latest in a series of linguistic studies focused on the oneness of the sign. It is based on the principle that variations that appeared in United States Spanish are significant ; their emergence reveals the system’s inherent dynamics and challenges the immutable nature of the cultural and linguistic factors that define the Hispanic civilization

Abstract: This paper aims to analyze enunciates about Portunhol and Spanglish from statements taken from the Internet, which will be treated as a enunciation space. From this angle we will study, at the event, how the processes and relations determine these languages practices; wich are the enunciation processes that (de) legitimize these two practices of contact between Portugues / Spanish and Spanish / English, respectively, at the interface with the "memorável". For this work we use as a Theoretical and Analytical foundation the Semantic of Enunciation and the Semantic of the Event. The corpus to be analyzed will be collected from a survey on the Internet, search engines, starting with words like Spanglish / Spanglish and portunhol / portuñol. Main objective of this study is to answer the following questions: what determines, in the enunciation space of the Internet, such practices as practices (un) legitimacy? What are the relations and senses that circulate in this space, running in determining Portunhol and Spanglish?

Full textIn this study a parallel is being drawn between the use of English loanwords in Spanglish in the United States, and the use of loanwords from Swedish –here called Spanenska- in oral communication between Hispanics in Sweden. Some Swedish loanwords, particularly those with an equivalent word in Spanglish, have been selected and used in a questionnaire where a group of Hispanics living in different municipalities in Sweden have stated the frequency these words are used. They have also provided personal information in order to identify possible variables that could influence the use of such words. The research shows, after a series of statistical analysis made in the Chi-square test, that the variable ‘language preference’ (reading, listening, speaking, writing) is the only one which has shown a clear statistical correlation with the index use of Spanenska. In other words, as the preference for using the Swedish language rises, the index use of Spanenska rises as well. Moreover, the most common reason for using Spanenska is, according to this group of Hispanics, it is easier to say the words in Swedish even though they exist in Spanish. The words used most frequently are those related to Swedish culture, such as "midsommar”. Ultimately, unlike what occurs in Spanglish, the women use Spanenska more than men do.

The present thesis was developed based on the inquiring of possible forms of identification for the subjects living the cross-border experience, not only because they inhabit the interstitial space of the border, but also because of their experience between languages and cultures of more than one country. Our attention is focused initially on the Uruguay / Brazil border, since we recognize that the process of colonization in northern Uruguay was based on the establishment of a Portuguese and maintenance - speaking population whose descendants were literate in the Spanish language at the same time as their language was preserved in domestic settings, which eventually determined the emergence of a hybrid language resulting from the contact between Portuguese and Spanish. Based on the sociolinguistic studies developed since the 1950s, we have been able to observe the permanence of the hybrid mother tongue that was combated and silenced during the successive linguistic policies adopted in Uruguay until its recent recognition as the second language of the country and the attempt to consider portunhol as an Intangible Cultural Heritage by UNESCO. Our research points to literature written in portunhol as a way of legitimization of the hybrid language and, from the selection of a historical series of the literary portunhol, we opted for the analysis of the work of the Artiguense poet Fabian Severus to compare the procedures of literary writing in the linguistic mix . Based on the concept of bi (pluri) language, proposed by Walter Mignolo (2003), we consider that the experience in the linguistic fusion would be related to a lifestyle, so we proposed to put in dialogue, through a comparative perspective - a critical method specific to dialogue within Latin American literary and literary research - the literary writing in Portuguese with the Spanglish script written by the Chicana writer Gloria Anzaldúa to imply how the language relates directly to the modes identification of cross-border subjects. Finally, we discuss how linguistic policies have dealt with the fact that the national language is not always the mother tongue of a portion of the population.

Full textSince the beginning of our era, relations between civilizations and cultures from different parts of the world presented diverse linguistic contacts between speakers of different languages. These generated a variation in the grammatical use and, therefore, a new vocabulary among the contacted languages, being English one of the most outstanding ones. Nowadays, English is the most influential language in the world and its use in Peru, whether through anglicisms or in a general way, is undeniable. It is also important to mention that it is spreading and growing thanks to the support of technology and the use of social networks. The present work aims to observe the use of English in the social network of Facebook by young students from 18 to 25 years of a private university in Metropolitan Lima. This study proposes to see - with a qualitative scope - how young university students (in this particular sector) use English in their posts. The following types of use were observed in the results: Spanglish, memes and -in general circumstances- the hashtag; among other factors that could be complemented with other studies, such as the possible learning and integration of the English language in this or other social networks, and the use of this language in other branches of research.

Galvanized steel having a high percentage of spangle or subspangle grains oriented with the (0002) planes in paralel to the sheet surfaceshows the best paint adherence. Also it has been realized that the larger the angles between the spangle (0002) planes and the steel surface, the more prone to cracking is expected for zinc layer being subject to tensile or bending stresses. Accordingly this thesis is devoted to investigation of the following two optics: (A) Referring to various reports we first of all classified subspangles belonging to regular spangles of 1 ~ 2 cm diameter into a total of sixtypes: (1) a fern type, (2) a mirror-like type, (3) a half-fern type, (4) a rost type, (5) a feather type, and (6) a triangle type. Furthermore, we defined each type not only according to their shapes, but also according to their orientation angles between the subspangle (0002) planes and the steel surface obtained from our X-ray diffraction pole figures. We also describled each type with the color appearance observed after chemical etching. We founded that there were as much as 75% ~85% of subspangles whose orientation angles fell between 0 ~ 15°. The color description of subspangles provides us an alternative, effective and easy method for estimate of their orientation angles. (B) Having carefully compared the widths of cracking and the orientation angles of subspangles subsequent to pull or bend test, we confirmed the findings of others that the bigger the orientation angles the wider the cracking on the respective subspangles. The phenomena can be explained in terms of having a greater critical normal stress between twosubspangle grains with a larger orientation angle. We also observed some secondary cracks making a 90°to the first ones, when they were overstressed. Besides, we observed a good correlation between the surface roughness or dendritic structure and the subspangle orientation angle. In essence, the larger the orientation angle, the smoother the subspangle surface, and hence the poorer the paint adhesion. Finally it was noted that the formation of white-rust was positively related to the roughness or dendritic structure of the surface. A study was extended for the effect of Pb content on the intergranular cracking. There was a tendency of more cracking on the zinc layer when Pb exceeded 0.015%, especially after the galvanized steel was stored for a long time.

In present, the construct of vehicles or home appliances use IF steel as sheet metal, however, the production costs are very high, even with variable advanced technique to control the size of spangles. Hence, in this paper, I use different abrasive brush roller in processing of HDG in the same condition to produce steel sheets with different roughness, then ignore other possible parameters because of the similar producing condition. In this research, I focus on two main questions: Discussing the interconnection between the scale of spangles, sheet resistance, as well as wet fastness by setting the roughness as the main parameter, and studying the effect of intermetallic compound when HDG steel enters iron-aluminum phase with zinc bath in molten condition. Based on this research, I find out that roughness really gets the interconnection to the scale of spangles, sheet resistance, as well as wet fastness: With the steel rougher, the scale of spangles would be smaller, and sheet resistance as well as wet fastness show in direct proportion. In addition, I check the second question by SEM (Scanning Electron Microscope) and XRD (X-ray diffraction). The former points out that the scale of iron-aluminum crystallite has no correlation to the roughness of substrate; the latter can only indicate that this molten condition pushes HDG steel to enter Iron-aluminum phase rather than Iron-zinc phase. After further investigating the crystallographic plane produced in Iron-aluminum phase, this produce has no correlation to the roughness of substrate.

The purpose of this study is to observe the effects of different cooling condi-tions on the formation of the spike-like spangles, with the conditions set and samples obtained directly in the production process. The main operation parameter of this study is the volume of cooling air in No.1 and No.2 up-leg coolers. When the volume of cooling air increased from 179m3/min to 288m3/min, the length of the spike-like spangles on both sides of the steel sheet shortened, with their frequency of appearance reduced accordingly. Observations under optical micro-scope revealed that the long, rectangular parts of a spike-like spangle showed an equiaxed grain structure, while the slender, needle-like ones on the sides showed a columnar grain structure. The grain sizes of the equiaxed and columnar crystals were found to be unaffected by different cooling rates, with no significant difference in their respective elemental compositions. Micro hardness tests showed that areas of spike-like spangles were harder than those of normal ones. The main factor con-tributing to a higher hardness is the much smaller grain size of the spike-like spangle. Results from salt spray tests showed no significant difference in corrosion re-sistance between spike-like spangles and normal ones.
