Abstract:
Research has explored the impact of various planning types (i.e. different ways to help students prepare for a language task by, for instance, giving them time and/or specific instructions) on the fluency, complexity, and accuracy of second language learners (e.g., Ellis, 2009). However, results have been mixed and studies have never investigated the impact of pre-speaking activities such as those proposed by Thompson (2009), a teacher-led planning focusing on both form and content with students. This paper examines the dialects of the language that is tap dance. Unlike more codified forms of dance such as ballet, which utilize a universally-accepted technique system, the evolution of tap dance has been largely rooted in oral tradition. The purpose of this research was to explore the ways in which a small, purposefully sampled group of Grade One isiXhosa-speaking children began the process of becoming literate in English as their second language. The research looked specifically for evidence of strategic behaviours in reading and writing which, according to Clay (200 I, 2005), form the foundation for self-extending systems and have the potential to accelerate learning. The research was guided by the principles of Clay's early intervention Reading and Writing Recovery. By Clay's definition, self-extending systems are literacy

The participants were Taiwanese EFL students in a university of science and technology. The purpose of the research was to examine whether the participants’ speaking performance would improve with the help of ORM through the practice of repeated oral reading. Their speaking performance was then evaluated by a set of simulated IELTS speaking test. The results revealed that ORM positively infl
