Abstract:
The technician by virtue of his profession plays an important role in fabricating silicone tongue prosthesis for a total glossectomy patient. The technician, with his skills and specialized knowledge in handling material, plays a valuable role as a member of the oncology team. A patient with total glossectomy can be rehabilitated by silicone tongue prosthesis as an aid to improve his speech and swallowing. This paper describes the technical steps involved in fabricating a silicone tongue prosthesis for an edentulous total glossectomy patient.

Abstract:
New tasks are being developed for pharmacy technicians in community practice. The objectives of this study were to (1) assess the willingness of community pharmacy technicians to perform new tasks, and (2) to identify factors affecting technicians in assuming new tasks in community pharmacy practice. An online survey asked about the respondent characteristics, involvement in pharmacy technician tasks, willingness to perform emerging pharmacy technician tasks, and influences on pharmacy technicians’ performance of emerging tasks. Descriptive statistics were calculated for all items. A total of 639 usable surveys from community pharmacy technicians were used in the analyses. The respondents reported a mean of 11.5 years working as a pharmacy technician, with 79.2% working full time. Technicians reported high willingness to perform four emerging tasks, moderate willingness for six tasks, and low willingness to perform two tasks. The low willingness tasks were administering a vaccination and drawing a blood sample with a finger stick. Four workplace influences on willingness to perform emerging tasks were insufficient staffing, insufficient time to complete additional tasks, employers not classifying technicians based on specialized skills, and usually feeling stress at work. It appears likely that pharmacy technicians will be willing to perform the new tasks needed to support the emerging patient care services in community pharmacies.

Abstract:
While pharmacy technician roles in some practice settings are expanding beyond the traditional dispensing activities to include advanced or specialized tasks such as immunization administration, medication history collection, and final product verification, these practices are not yet widespread. There are apparent barriers to expanding the role of pharmacy technicians, including inconsistency in the education, training, and certification requirements across the United States, and regulations that have not kept pace with the evolving role of pharmacy technicians. Every corner of the profession has an opportunity, and responsibility, to elevate pharmacy technicians in an effort to advance safety and better serve patients. Regulators can expand the responsibilities that may be delegated to technicians, professional organizations can bring pharmacy technicians into the fold, employers can build career ladders to allow for advancement, and individual pharmacists and pharmacy technicians can advocate and engage.

Abstract:
Chronic Kidney disease is becoming a global public health problem throughout the world. The aim of the study was to assess management status of the hemodialysis unit in a specialized hospital. It was a hospital based descriptive cross sectional study. A total of 17 participants were selected by purposive sampling method on the basis of defined selection criteria from January 2015 to December 2016. The place of study was National Institute of Kidney Diseases and Urology (NIKDU) hospital, Dhaka. The research instruments were a semi structured questionnaire and a checklist. The socio-demographic status of the respondents showed that 11.8 %( n=02) were doctor, 58.8 %( n=10) nurses and 29.4 %( n=05) were technician. Mean age of care providers was 38.82±8.79 years. Majority of respondents, were satisfied regarding the unit including physical facilities 76.5% (n=13) cleanliness of the unit 58.8% (n=10) and medical record facility 52.9% (n=9). Need to strengthen infection control measure and BCC activities among the service providers to improve the management status of the hemodialysis unit of NIKDU hospital. Asian J. Med. Biol. Res. The delivery had to be planned in specialized institutions with clinical experience of managing women with birth defects of blood-coagulation factors.

Abstract:
Introduction: Methacrylate-based materials are used daily in dental practice. Specialized publications report these materials as allergens with a high sensitizing potential. Aim: To draw the attention of dental doctors and personnel to risk factors of developing occupational allergies. Materials and methods: History and dermatological status of the patient were taken and he was given an epicutaneous test. Results: The allergy testing revealed a strong positive allergic reaction to methacrylates which persisted and was observed at 72 hours as well as on day 7. A diagnosis of allergic contact dermatitis was made on the basis of the patient’s history, the clinical examination and the results of the epicutaneous test. Conclusion: The presented clinical case shows that early identification of the specific causative agents allows clinicians to take adequate measures and achieve results without having to use a medicine, and stop the progression of the occupational disease and the development of complications.

Computer Control of a 3 MV Van de Graaff AcceleratorThe development of accurate computer control of a 3 MV Van de Graaff accelerator operation is described. The developed system comprises the accelerator turn-on and turn-off procedures during a normal run, which includes the setting of the terminal voltage, ion source light up, beam focusing and control of ion beam current and energy during operation. In addition, the computer monitors the vacuum and is able to make a detail register of the most important events during a normal run. The computer control system uses a LabVIEW application for interaction with the operator and an I/O board that interfaces the computer and the accelerator system. For everyday operating conditions the control implemented is able to turn-on and off the machine in about the same time as a specialized technician. In addition, today more users can make experiments in the accelerator without the help of a specialized operator, which in turns increases the number of hours during which the accelerator can be used.

Abstract:
The introduction of digital imaging and diagnostics facilities has fundamentally changed radiology. Nevertheless, theory of digital image processing and analysis as well as their practical application are still only a subsidiary part in nowadays radiology technician curricula. This work focuses on the evaluation, to what extent the authors' simplified and standardized process model for applying image processing modules in generic domains is suited for radiographer students and medical staff, lacking deeper theoretical knowledge compared to physicians and imaging experts. The semi-automated image processing workflow thereby comprises region growing, live-wire segmentation and filtering steps, all available from MeVisLab prototyping framework. It is shown that the proposed imaging chain is highly applicable for analysis and facilitating medical diagnostics of arbitrary anatomical structures from tomographic data. After compact practical instruction, radiographer students are versed to achieve complex 3D analysis perfectly suited for quantitative analysis in clinical research typically only achievable by use of specialized software.

To ensure high performance of the agricultural machinery and equipment it is necessary to improve the system of technical service in agriculture through the creation of specialized service centers. Features of agricultural production are such that machinery and equipment implementing its processes are distributed throughout the agricultural enterprises, and mobile machines and units that form the basis of machine-tractor fleet, change their place of deployment as work progresses in certain areas. This situation complicates the maintenance (M) and current repairs (CR) of agricultural machinery and equipment, as their delivery of their service centers or check out of service technician with the necessary tools, equipment and materials directly to the operation of machines and equipment, or temporary storage sites are required. The result is more expensive M and CR and increased losses from downtime, of course these additional costs and losses must be minimized by the rational organization of processes of M and CR. Analytical dependences are got to determine the costs of the M or CR, taking into accounts the embodiment of losses from downtime of serviced machines and the method of its delivery to the service center. Selecting embodiment of M or CR is carried out on a minimum of these costs, for which the algorithm is proposed, comprising determining the costs of the options under consideration to perform M or TP and compare them to avoid irrational choices. These analytical dependence and calculation algorithm contribute to the improvement of the organization of technical services in agriculture.

Abstract:
BACKGROUND Radiography is one of the important tools that dentists use to diagnose dental diseases in the oral cavity. Exposure of radiation is associated with hazardous effects on oral tissues. Doctors must have enough knowledge regarding the consequences of radiation exposure. The purpose of this study was to assess knowledge and perspective of dental practitioners towards dental radiography. METHODS This descriptive cross-sectional study was conducted in the month of November and December 2020, among dental practitioners who worked in the state of Sindh. All the participants were given the questionnaire survey link through social media including Facebook, WhatsApp, and Email and 24 closed ended questions were asked regarding dental radiography. A total of 247 dental practitioners responded and participated in the study. RESULTS Our study showed that only 3.60 % of general practitioners (GP) reported that they did not have radiographic unit. The participant’s knowledge regarding the technical details of equipment was limited. Majority of dental practitioners preferred long cone, more than 50 % specialist recommended F-speed of film. 34.53 % of general dentists and 37.73 % of specialists responded that they have digital radiography. More than 50 % of dental practitioners didn’t have license for x-ray equipment. Majority of them utilized paralleling technique for periapical x-ray. 63.40 % of GP and only 11.32 % of specialist held x-ray film with the fingers when taking x-ray. 30.41 % of GP and 24.52 % of specialist took the radiographs themselves, whereas 35.05 % had x-ray done by technician. Only 1.54 % of GP and 3.775 % of specialists gave the radiographic packing materials to specialized company in order to discard the waste materials. Only 6.70 % of GP and 11.32 % of specialists had the walls of the x-ray room covered with lead. CONCLUSIONS This study concluded that dental practitioners have little knowledge regarding dental radiography. KEY WORDS Knowledge, Perspective, Dental Practitioners, Dental Radiology

Resumo: A presente pesquisa visa investigar a atuação do técnico de segurança do trabalho nos ambientes das organizações que contratam, por força de lei, este profissional prevencionista e por extensão, identificar os obstáculos por ele encontrados nas ações inerentes à profissão. Os referenciais teóricos que se utilizou são encontrados na literatura de autores que analisaram as relações de trabalho com ênfase nos transtornos mentais e sua estreita ligação com a organização do trabalho. Autores como Dejours, Dubar, Ciampa, Bourdieu, Pagès, Goffman, Heloani e, ainda outros, debruçaram-se exaustivamente nos estudos para melhor compreender a construção da identidade de uma pessoa e as patologias nele desenvolvidas pelo sofrimento diário devido ao trabalho. A estratégia metodológica buscou reunir os elementos coletados em categorias temáticas que identificam óbices de profissionais cuja prevenção contra acidentes seria o elemento fundamental da atividade do trabalho do técnico de segurança. Para buscar essa categorização, utilizou-se a técnica de análise temática a partir da fala de dezoito entrevistados, todos técnicos de segurança do trabalho, a maioria em atividade em empresas da região metropolitana de Florianópolis. Os resultados constatados evidenciam claramente a questão do custo econômico como perturbador das ações de prevenção de acidentes; revelou a priorização da produção em detrimento da capacitação e, com muita preocupação, trouxe à tona a questão da fragilização da identidade que pode trazer sérias consequências à saúde mental desses profissionais.
Abstract: This research aims to investigate the performance of technical work safety in environments of organizations that contract, by law, this professional prevention and by extension, identify the obstacles he found in the actions in her profession. The theorical frameworks that are used in the literature of authors who studied labor relations with emphasis on mental disorders and their close connection with the organization of work. Authors such as Dejours, Dubar, Ciampa, Bourdieu, Pagès, Goffman, Heloani and still others, pored extensively in studies to better understand the formation of the identity of a person and the conditions it developed by daily suffering because of word. The strategy sought to gather the information collected in thematic categories that identify obstacles of professionals which occupational accidents prevention should be the main element of the work activity of this technician. To seek this categorization, we used the analysis technique based on speech eighteen respondents, all technical security work, mostly in business activity in the metropolitan region of Florianópolis. The observed results clearly show the question of economic cost as disruptive of prevention of accidents; reveled the prioritization of production at the expense of training and, with great concern, raised the question of the fragility of identity that can have serious health consequences mental of these professionals.

CONSELHO NACIONAL DE DESENVOLVIMENTO CIENTÍFICO E TECNOLÓGICO
A presente dissertação de mestrado refere-se a um estudo de demanda de serviços técnicos especializados da indústria naval brasileira, desenvolvido sob duas óticas distintas: (i) a das instituições ofertantes de serviços e (ii)a das empresas demandantes. A primeira abordagem, denominada Parte 1 da pesquisa, considerou as demandas de serviços técnicos especializados das empresas do setor industrial naval atendidas por três importantes instituições prestadoras de serviços sediadas no Rio de Janeiro (Instituto Nacional de Tecnologia – INT, Instituto Tecnológico da Pontifícia Universidade Católica do rio de Janeiro – ITUC/PUC-Rio e Fundação Coordenação de Pesquisas, Projetos e Estudos Tecnológicos da Universidade do Rio de Janeiro – COPPETEC/UFRJ), no período de 1986 à 1991. Os dados utilizados na Parte 1 da pesquisa, referem-se à demanda atendida de 17 empresas e originaram-se de uma base de dados consolidada no âmbito de um projeto mais amplo (descrito na referência bibliográfica [24]), que explicitou a demanda (consumo) de serviços técnicos especializados de 1.347 empresas públicas e privadas vinculadas aos diferentes setores econômicos do estado do Rio de Janeiro. Uma outra abordagem desenvolvida na Parte 2 da pesquisa envolveu trabalho de campo realizado diretamente junto às empresas do setor naval sediadas no estado do Rio de Janeiro. Dentre as 21 empresas identificadas como atuantes no mercado de reparos e construção naval, 12 aceitaram participar do estudo. Objetivando diversificar o perfil do trabalho, também foi incluída 1 empresa fabricante de navipeças. Tendo em vista o porte das empresas estudadas, e baseando-se em dados do Sindicato Nacional da Construção Naval – SINAVAL e em outras informações disponíveis, acredita-se que a amostra estudada possui representatividade nacional, correspondendo a um índice superior a 50 por cento da produção naval do País. Essa amostra também ganha relevância pelo fato do Estado do Rio de Janeiro concentrar aproximadamente 92 por cento da produção nacional, característica de mercado que fortemente facilitou a pesquisa de campo. Os resultados deste trabalho permitiram caracterizar o perfil e os condicionantes da demanda, dimensionar o porte do mercado de serviços técnicos estimulados pela indústria naval e estabelecer um diagnóstico de adequação da demanda à ofeta de serviços e das instituições públicas e privadas sediadas no estado do Rio de Janeiro. Adicionalmente, estimou-se o potencial de terceirização de serviços técnicos especializados atualmente realizados internamente pelas próprias empresas da indústria naval, de forma a demonstrar oportunidades de novos mercados para as instituições ofertantes. Essas informações devem não só construir elementos da estratégia de marketing e replanejamento das instituições atuantes na prestação de serviços como também subsidiar a formulação de políticas públicas objetivando o desenvolvimento do setor naval.
The present dissertation is a study of the demand for specialized technical services in the brazilian naval industry. The demand was approached under two different perspectives. First, from that observed through orders placed by this industry at three important technical institutes located in the state of Rio de Janeiro (Instituto Nacional de Tecnologia – INT, Instituto Tecnológico da Pontifícia Universidade Católica do rio de Janeiro – ITUC/PUC-Rio e Fundação Coordenação de Pesquisas, Projetos e Estudos Tecnológicos da Universidade do Rio de Janeiro – COPPETEC/UFRJ), in the period from 1986 to 1991. The second approach surveyed the demand from the industry. The data for Part 1 of the research came from a data bank developed in a brader study (decribed in reference [24]) which analysed the demand (consumption) for specialized technical services of the 1347 public and private firms pertaining to different economic sectors of the state of the Rio de Janeiro. In this respect, this part of the research was limited to the consideration of the real demand met by the three institutes investigated. The second approach developed in part 2 of the study involved field research covering 12 of the 21 firms active in the market of ship repairs and shipbuilding in the state of Rio de Janeiro. According to data from Sinaval (national Shipbuilding Union) and other sources of the whole naval industry. This sample is significant given the fact that 92 per cent of the national insdustry is concentrated in the state of Rio de Janeiro, characteristic which strongly simplified the field research. This part of the reserarch focus on both effective and potential demand for especialized technical services. The results of the present work provide a detailed characterization of the demand profile and the identification of the determining factors that affect this demand for technical services. They also alow to estimate the size of the market as well as its needs and potential growth on the basis of demands currently not met by the technical institutes. Furthermore, the study also stimated the potential for growth based on the willingness of such firms to increase its outsourcing of internally supplied services. These results should be useful in guiding the bussiness and technical development efforts of the institutes as well as to subsidize the formulation of public policies aiming at increasing the technical capabilities of the naval sector.

Abstract:
This thesis describes a translation project carried out within the framework of the Language Toolkit program, which is the result of a collaboration between the Department of Interpretation and Translation and the Chamber of Commerce of Romagna. For this translation project, technical and promotional materials were translated from Italian into Russian for GMR ENLIGHTS S.r.l., a local company that specializes in lighting technology. Materials that were assigned for this translation project combine technical and promotional writing, which is a common feature of business-to-business promotional texts. The first chapter explores the main characteristics of texts belonging to this category and analyzes the tools and skills that a translator needs to perform promotional and technical translation. More information about the Language Toolkit program and GMR ENLIGHTS S.r.l. can be found in the second chapter. Here the work of the program is analyzed in the context of economic development and internationalization of the region of Emilia-Romagna. This is followed by a brief history of the company's development and a description of the task assigned by the company. The third chapter describes the tools that were chosen for this translation project and the resources that were used in order to acquire the relevant terminology. The fourth chapter provides a detailed analysis of all the source texts. Given the promotional nature of the texts, it was decided to adopt the functional approach to translation and analyze the texts along Nord's (2005) model of translation-oriented text analysis, which revolves greatly around the analysis of the prospective target reader. The most interesting and recurrent translation problems that were encountered in this project, and strategies adopted to solve them are described in the fifth and final chapter.

Abstract:
This doctoral study explores whether engineering metaphors are used in the translation of an engineering text from English to Malay and examines how the usage of metaphors in the target text (TT) compares to that in the source text (ST). The study focuses on Holtzapple and Reese’s “Foundations of Engineering” and its Malay version “Asas Kejuruteraan” translated by Juneta Zawawi. The “Metaphor Identification Procedure” (MIP) by the Pragglejaz Group is applied in the process of gathering examples while the Cognitive Metaphor Theory is used for the purposes of metaphor analysis. A combination of Newmark’s (1988), Deignan’s (2005) and Lakoff and Johnson’s (1980) classifications of metaphor are used to categorize the SL and TL metaphorical expressions. Metaphor translation procedures identified were benchmarked to those proposed by Newmark (1988). Analysis of the 174 ST and 82 TT engineering metaphors reveals that the use of metaphorical language does indeed characterize the English technical text and its translation into Malay. Identifying equivalence in the TL discloses somewhat similar problems to those that are present in literary metaphor translation. The ease of translation and the identification of suitable engineering metaphors are not determined solely by the type of metaphor but rather are also partially dependent on cultural and linguistic factors. Metaphor translation procedures as outlined by Newmark are found to be unable to account for all the examples, which results in the creation of the two variants of one of his translation procedures, the proposal of three new ones that are identified and the abandonment of two of his procedures. The selection of translation procedure appears to be dependent not only on the metaphor type but also on whether the translator simply decides to use equivalent SL metaphors or non-metaphorical expressions in the TL. It is also highly likely that the type of text being translated plays a role.

Il tirocinio è consistito nella traduzione verso il tedesco di un manuale d’uso e manutenzione riguardante un nuovo prodotto da lanciare sul mercato internazionale, il “Baby Beetle Train” un trenino automatico per bambini. L’elaborato è stato suddiviso in cinque capitoli: nel primo viene inquadrato il progetto di tirocinio e di tesi, nel secondo vengono presentate le basi teoriche necessarie a intraprendere l’incarico, nel terzo vengono trattate le risorse create a sostegno della traduzione, nel quarto viene fatta un’analisi del testo di partenza e nel quinto vengono presentati i vari problemi traduttivi incontrati e le soluzioni che sono state adottate.

A educação inclusiva está hoje presente nas políticas educativas, procurando criar na escola um espaço de educação para todos tal como está previsto nos documentos internacionais subscritos por Portugal, como a Declaração de Salamanca e a Convenção dos direitos da pessoa com deficiência. Estas mudanças acarretam grandes desafios para os profissionais que atuam no espaço escolar. A forma como cada profissional perspetiva a inclusão é assente em atitudes que consequentemente se refletem nas suas práticas educacionais. O objetivo do presente estudo é compreender as atitudes e práticas dos docentes e técnicos especializados face à educação inclusiva. O estudo desenvolvido (N= 470), dirigiu-se a professores e técnicos especializados a trabalhar em contexto de escola inclusiva. Para o efeito construímos e aplicámos a Escala de Atitudes Inclusivas. A análise dos dados aponta uma atitude inclusiva de maior intensidade por parte dos técnicos especializados comparativamente com os docentes, com maior evidência na dimensão afetiva. A finalizar, este estudo salienta-se a importância da componente atitudinal nas boas práticas inclusivas; Abstract: “Teachers and STAFF/specialists Pratices and Behaviors About Inclusive Education” The inclusive education is a reality even more important in the educative politics, in order to reform the educative system, consequence of the international conjecture that constitutes the legislation which takes part the inclusive school. The way each professional perspective the inclusion process is based in attitudes that affects his educational practices. The main goal of this study is understand teacher’s and specialized technician’s attitudes and practices about inclusive education. The quantitative nature of this study involved an intervention group of (N=470), questioned with the instrument ITAI, created for this study. The data analysis reveals more intense attitude about inclusion by the specialized technician’s, when compared with the teachers, with a bigger evidence in the affective dimension. Finalizing, this study points the importance of the attitudinal component in good inclusive practices.

Abstract The prevalence of local perspectives can be easily seen in the local media covering Nile Basin countries; most reports, articles, breaking news and even photos focus on national interests. It mostly shows how the Nile is a vital source for the country and the people's needs. But with the continuous change in the Nile hydropolitics (mainly after the signing of the Cooperative Framework Agreement in 2010, and the construction of the Grand Ethiopian Renaissance Dam in 2011), the media coverage turned to have a more regional perspective, looking more into activities in the riparian countries, exploring how their possible impacts on the national interest might look. This chapter provides an overview of media coverage in Eastern Nile countries. Common challenges that face almost all journalists writing about water are presented, which include (i) understanding the technical, political, legal and social aspects of the water conflict, (ii) credible sources, (iii) lack of confidence, and (iv) non-regular coverage. Solutions for constructive media coverage on the Nile are also given, i.e. training of specialized journalists, conducting constructive dialogues, enhancing media coverage in the Nile Basin, and linking journalists with researchers and officials in workshops to discuss the best solutions for informative and positive coverage.

The introduction of digital imaging and diagnostics facilities has fundamentally changed radiology. Nevertheless, theory of digital image processing and analysis as well as their practical application are still only a subsidiary part in nowadays radiology technician curricula. This work focuses on the evaluation, to what extent the authors' simplified and standardized process model for applying image processing modules in generic domains is suited for radiographer students and medical staff, lacking deeper theoretical knowledge compared to physicians and imaging experts. The semi-automated image processing workflow thereby comprises region growing, live-wire segmentation and filtering steps, all available from MeVisLab prototyping framework. It is shown that the proposed imaging chain is highly applicable for analysis and facilitating medical diagnostics of arbitrary anatomical structures from tomographic data. After compact practical instruction, radiographer students are versed to achieve complex 3D analysis perfectly suited for quantitative analysis in clinical research typically only achievable by use of specialized software.

Abstract Quality has been a rallying call in the design and manufacturing world for the last two decades. One way to improve quality is to reduce the impact of manufacturing variation. Variation risk mitigation is challenging especially when a product has multiple quality characteristics and complex production and assembly. It is common wisdom that companies should identify and mitigate the risk associated with variation throughout the design process. As yield problems are identified, they should be mitigated using the most cost effective approach. One approach to variation risk mitigation is variation reduction (VR). VR targets reduction of variation introduced by existing manufacturing processes using tools such as Design of Experiments (DOE) and robust design. Many companies have specialized groups that specialize in these methods. VR teams have the role of improving manufacturing performance; however, these teams are limited in their resources. In addition, no tools exist to quantitatively determine where a VR team’s efforts are most effectively deployed. This paper provides a mathematical and optimization model to best allocate VR resources in a complex product.

This work presents a systematic procedure for completely generating the number of non-isomorphic specialized mechanisms from kinematic chains subject to design constraints for planar mechanisms. By assigning the specific types of members and joints in the available atlas of candidate kinematic chains, the atlas of specialized mechanisms are obtained. Furthermore, based on the combinatorial mathematics, the number of specialized mechanisms are counted and verified from the mathematical expressions. A motorcross suspension mechanism and the interior mechanism of Zhang Heng’s seismoscope are used as examples to illustrate this procedure.
