For the first time, to our knowledge, orthogonal proton-exchange polarizers have been fabricated on a single LiNbO3 substrate, allowing for the total integration of two acoustically tunable optical filters (ATOFs). This is a major step toward the development of a low-loss, non-frequency-shifting laser intracavity tuning element.1,2This wavelength-selective component will be suitable for a variety of wavelength ranges, including the Ti:sapphire gain range (650-1000 μm) and the optical communication band between 1.2 and 1.6μm and beyond. Abstract:
The spectral range at which conventional streak camera systems operate is limited by the spectral response of the photocathode used. For most photocathode materials the sensitivity is limited to wavelengths shorter than 1.5 µm. Beyond this wavelength the quantum efficiency of the photocathode becomes negligible. The temporal profile of mid- and far-infrared light pulses can thus not be measured directly using a conventional streak camera.

The spectral lineshapes of the Sr (51P1–51P0) resonance transition perturbed by rare gases have been examined with a high-resolution laser-induced fluorescence method. In He and Ne, the collisional broadened spectral profiles are found to be symmetrical over the entire studied pressure range (0–600 Torr). The resulting line shapes are accurately represented by a simple Voigt profile expression. The Ar, Kr, and Xe perturbing gases, however, produce anomalous asymmetrical line broadening. The High Spectral Resolution LIDAR (HSRL) technique has been proposed (1,2) to measure the temperature profile in the atmosphere with a resolution of 1°K in real time with a spatial resolution of 15 to 30 m. A 10-nanosecond pulse centered on frequency, vL, is sent into the atmosphere. The returning light is split and each beam is passed through one of two very narrow atomic vapor filters centered on vF, but with slightly different band widths corresponding to different vapor temperatures.
