Brushless DC (BLDC) motors are widely used and applied in industry but it is difficult to control BLDC motors. Basically, a Brusless DC (BLDC) motor or also known as a permanent magnet synchronous motor (PMSM) uses a hall sensor to determine the position and speed of the motor. The data on the value of the BLDC rotor speed (rpm) in the basic modeling of the BLDC motor as input from the sliding mode observer (SMO) method which is set in the BLDC rotor speed (rpm) set point. A sensorless method based on SMO is proposed to replace the hall-sensor device for estimating the rotor position and speed

The selection of turning speed is very important because the turning process affects the quality of the work, especially in the metal industry and small or medium-sized industries. To meet production needs, the rotational speed of the lathe can be adjusted to various spindle speed levels. Variations in speed will cause the workpiece to differ in terms of flatness and smoothness. The turning process begins with a linear motion along the axis of the AISI 1040 steel workpiece, with a slow feed of 2 mm. Smooth and even results were obtained at speeds of 80 rpm, 105 rpm, 160 rpm, 250 rpm, 380 rpm,

The thesis discusses the development of closed loop system to control the DC voltage for 200 kW induction generator rated at a speed of 62000 RPM under different load conditions. The voltage regulation has been implemented using PI controller. A gain scheduling control algorithm has been developed to select the appropriate controller gains with respect to the generator load. Further, a relationship between the generator loads and the controller gains has been established. This relationship has been modeled using adaptive control technique to vary the gains automatically at any load condition.

Abstract:
Currently, manned vertical lift vehicles are flown in a manner such that the rotors operate over a narrow range of rotating speed regardless if the vehicle's flight condition is one of vertical takeoff and landing, hover, or forward cruise. The propulsion systems are optimized for operation at the same, corresponding narrow range of rotor speed. However, certain missions and markets benefit greatly if the rotor speed can be adjusted over a wide range of speed to match demands of different missions and flight regimes. A vehicle that can operate with a wide range of rotor speeds would address ke

A new ultrahigh speed micro-spindle has been developed for micromachining that can be used at rotational speeds as high as 500,000 rpm. Since conventional ball bearings or fluid lubricated journal bearings cannot be used at speeds beyond 300,000 rpm for any extended period of time, the new spindle uses a set of journal and thrust foil bearings. The micro-spindle was integrated with a 3-axis micro-milling machine. Cutting experiments were performed on an aluminum alloy at speeds greater than 300,000 rpm using 50 and 300 micron end-mills. Performance investigation of a Chevrolet 5.7, eight cylinder gasoline engine is experimentally carried out at laboratuary conditions by means of the special softwares called “NetDyn” and “WinDyn”. This experimental work is intended to make contribution to the researchers that experimentally analyze the parameters of gasoline engines with the engine speed in detail. During the experiments, the engine speed is changed from 2500 rpm to 5250 rpm with 250 rpm intervals and steptime for succesive speeds is kept constant as 10 s. Energy from pavements can be harvested in multiple ways to produce clean energy. One of the techniques is electromagnetic energy harvesting, in which mechanical energy from vehicles is captured in the form of input displacement to produce electricity. In this study, a rack-and-pinion electromagnetic energy harvester proposed in the literature as a speed bump is optimized for highway-speed vehicles. A displacement transfer plate is also proposed, with a minimum depth of embedment in the pavement to carry input displacements from passing vehicles and excite the energy harvester. The energy harve

Raised profile striping (RPS) was installed on the roadway center and edge lines along a 40-mile corridor of Natchez Trace Parkway (NATR) as a safety measure to reduce traffic accidents. To measure potential effects to the acoustic environment, controlled noise measurements were conducted within NATR in May 2023. Uncontrolled measurements were taken in 2024 once the roads reopened to provide background acoustic data for the analysis. These data were used to conduct noise modeling scenarios analyzing the effect of RPS on the acoustic environment. Modeled results indicate that vehicles running o

Regional Air Mobility (RAM) focuses on building upon existing airport infrastructure to transport people and goods using innovative aircraft that offer a huge improvement in efficiency, affordability, and community-friendly integration over existing regional transportation options. These aircraft, which typically carry less than 20 passengers or an equivalent weight in cargo, are flexible in terms of where they can take off and land, even using existing runways and infrastructure to maximize compatibility with today’s airports. This project examines the feasibility of RAM supporting high-speed

California is aggressively moving forward with efforts to deploy zero-emission transportation technology to fight climate change, especially the Greenhouse Gas (GHG) emissions from the high-impact transportation sector. However, to date, the investments California has made with Cap-and-Trade funding have focused on ground transportation and some marine sources and not the aircraft at the over 140 airports in the state. Through a California-focused comprehensive GHG emissions analysis, this research project seeks to determine how RAM using electric/hybrid electric aircraft can provide new high-
