Abstract:
This article highlights that virtual reality is expected to be the next big thing in electronic world. For engineers, this means that within the next decade designing on a flat computer screen will no longer be the norm. Expect to at least touch and manipulate a virtual part as you design and probably even walk inside and around a projection of the design in progress. Mechanical engineers who work at large or even at not-so-large companies have probably seen a manifestation of this. The Cyber Edge study found the three visual simulation markets with the most growth currently are virtual protot

Abstract The current postexposure prophylaxis regimen for tick-borne relapsing fever (TBRF) consists of 5 days’ doxycycline. In this observational study of 77 spelunkers at high risk for TBRF, a single dose of 100 mg doxycycline taken up to 72 hours after exposure to ticks was 100% effective in preventing the disease.

ABSTRACTMost archaeological practice involves horizontal excavations of ancient occupations and cemeteries, but the Chachapoya of Peru's eastern montane built tombs along narrow cliff ledges, which require innovative methods of investigation. Many of these sites are becoming exposed and threatened due to increased deforestation. The La Petaca mortuary complex includes 125 constructed platforms, modified ledges, mausoleums, and caves containing human remains across one section of an exposed rock face approximately 200 m across by approximately 80 m high. Abstract:
Sarisariñama is a pink sandstone plateau with a total area (summit and slope) of 832 km 2 located about 600 km SE of Caracas, in Estado Bolívar, Venezuela. It includes diverse environments along an elevational gradient from 400 m up to an elevation of 2100 m at its western cliffs. Sarisariñama is well known among spelunkers for its sinkholes (simas), among which Sima Mayor is the largest on earth. Herpetofaunal surveys at four camps in the uplands and two at the base of the massif revealed 32 species, four of which are here described as new taxa. These include three frogs in the genera Hyalino

Abstract:
Histoplasmosis, one of the most frequent endemic mycoses in the Americas, is caused by the inhalation of airborne conidia of Histoplasma capsulatum. Better understanding of the distribution of this fungus in the environment is important for the development of appropriate public health measures to prevent human infections. Previously, we used Hc100 nested polymerase chain reaction (PCR) to identify H. capsulatum DNA in 10% of environmental samples in Colombia. Here, we validate a 100-kDa real-time PCR assay for the detection of this fungus in the environment. Using this method, we identified H.
