Purpose It has been noted that the spin-valve sensor exhibits lower sensitivity with higher temperature because of the variation of GMR ratio, which could lead to the measurement error in applications where working temperature changes largely over seasons or times. This paper aims to investigate and compensate the temperature effect of the spin-valve sensor. Design/methodology/approach A spin-valve sensor is fabricated based on microelectronic process, and its temperature relevant properties are investigated, in which the transfer curves are acquired within a temperature range of −50°C to 125°

The discovery of ultrafast demagnetization has introduced a new approach for generating ultrafast spin currents using an ultrashort laser, potentially enabling faster manipulation of material magnetism. This has sparked research into the transport mechanisms of ultrafast spin currents. This study employs a superdiffusive spin transport model to investigate the ultrafast spin transport mechanisms in the Ni/Ru/Fe spin valve system, with a particular focus on how interlayer s

The possibility of the Josephson-like effect in a spin valve system is discussed. It is argued that in the absence of the bias voltage, the system can have dc currents flowing through the tunneling junction under certain conditions when alignments of spins in two ferromagnetic (FM) layers separated by an insulating layer, are parallel. The system may have ac currents flowing through the junction when spins in the two FM layers are tilting aligned or antialigned, this being a result quite different from the Josephson effect in superconducting junctions. Abstract We fabricated a Pd/Co-based spin valve structure, which has in-plane (IP) free and out-of-plane (OOP) fixed layers, on a flexible substrate. By applying %-order biaxial tensile strain to the substrate, a spin reorientation transition from IP to OOP occurs in the free layer, resulting in a drastic change in the shape of the magnetoresistance curve. This change is reversible with increasing and decreasing strain. We suggest that our system could be utilized as an in-plane “direction-independent” strain sensor and as a pressure detector.

A laser-driven spin-polarized 3He2+-beam source for nuclear–physics experiments and for the investigation of polarized nuclear fusion demands a high-density polarized 3He gas-jet target. Such a target requires a magnetic system providing a permanent homogeneous holding field for the nuclear spins plus a set of coils for adjusting the orientation of the polarization. Starting from a transport vessel at a maximum pressure of 3 bar, the helium gas is compressed for a short time and can be injected into a laser–interaction chamber through a non-magnetic opening valve and nozzle, thus forming jets

The existence of a vortex in the ground state of magnetic nano-disks has open a wide range of possibilities for constructing new ultra-compact devices. In this work we study the dynamical behavior of a vortex in a magnetic nano-particle. First, we introduce magnetic impurities in the system. It is observed that depending on the strength of the interaction the impurities can behave both as a pinning (attractive) or scattering (repulsive). By using the known values of the parameters for Permalloy-79 we have calculated the interaction energy of the vortex core with a single defect. We estimated t

Due to their capability for comprehensive sample-to-answer automation, the interest in centrifugal microfluidic systems has greatly increased in industry and academia over the last quarter century. The main applications of these “Lab-on-a-Disc” (LoaD) platforms are in decentralised bioanalytical point-of-use / point-of-care testing. Due to the unidirectional and omnipresent nature of the centrifugal force, advanced flow control is key to coordinate multi-step / multi-reagent assay formats on the LoaD. Formerly, flow control was often achieved by capillary burst valves which require gradual inc

Overconsumption of food can result in environmental pollution, making it a particularly concerning issue in modern civilization. In Malaysia, food waste is generated at a rate of 16,688 tonnes per day. Despite its biodegradation properties and strong composting potential, about 80% of food waste is still disposed of in landfills. Air, soil and water pollution are risks often associated with food waste disposal. Since two-thirds of total waste is avoidable, preventing the rise of household food waste should be a top priority, among which is through composting. This project aims to build a smart

In this work, a two-dimensional (2D) position-detection device using a single axis magnetic sensor combined with orthogonal gradient coils was designed and fabricated. The sensors used were an induction coil and a GMR spin-valve sensor GF807 from Sensitec Inc. The field profiles generated by the two orthogonal gradient coils were analyzed numerically to achieve the maximum linear range, which corresponded to the detection area of the tracking system. The two coils were driven by 1-kHz sine wave currents with a 90° phase difference to generate the fields with uniform gradients along the x- and

Spintronics is a new branch of electronics in which the spin of the electrons as well as their charge is manipulated to produce a desired outcome. Spintronic devices are particularly attractive for memory storage and magnetic sensor applications, and potentially for quantum computing where the electron spin would represent a bit of information. Nowadays many efforts are made to increase the efficiency and lower the production costs of these materials, among others the use of molecular inorganic compounds and cheap preparation techniques [1]. Stand-alone hydropower plant is a major energy source in grid isolated zone because they do not require dams to be built. In a stand-alone hydropower plant Voltage and frequency, instability is caused by the load variation. This can cause the alternator to spin very quickly or very slowly, causing the induced voltage and output frequency to rise or fall. Furthermore, if the rate of alternator growth is too high or too low, the load appliances connected to the generator can undergo huge damage. For optimal overall performance of a small hydropower plant, generated voltage and frequency must be
