AbstractThis article takes constructive steps toward redescribing an emic folk category that enjoys widespread use in contemporary Western discourse, but has proven problematic for the academic study of religion. On close examination, the term “spirituality” is demonstrated to be vague, essentialist, and narcissistic, though consistent enough in its usage to reveal a cluster of specific associations, assumptions, and normative judgments. Moreover, the purported dichotomy between “spirituality” and “religion” can be rendered more intelligible through an ironic and imaginative juxtaposition with

The interplay between spiritual evil and physical monstrosity plays a large role in the Testaments of the Twelve Patriarchs. The Testaments are structured around the understanding of a human spirit, the mind, which stands between good and evil spirits, and in general it is the mind that forms the focus of the text’s exhortation. The evil spirits influence the mind, causing a person to think unrighteous thoughts and ultimately commit unrighteous acts. The role of the mind, however, is so large that it even plays a dominant role in the physical appearance of a person. In this article, I examine

Abstract:
Cancer survivors have unique physical, psychological, social, and spiritual health needs. These can include symptoms and side effects associated with cancer and cancer treatment, such as pain, cognitive dysfunction, insomnia, and elevated anxiety and depression. This research brief summarizes a landscape review done for the Patient Centered Outcomes Research Institute (PCORI) to develop a clear, comprehensive understanding of the state of research as of the mid-2000s. We conducted a targeted search strategy to identify projects funded by federal and commercial sources and the American Cancer S

Abstract:
Polypyrrole (PPy) was chemically prepared via an in situ doped polymerization utilizing seven dopant anions (dopant to monomer molar ratio, D/M = 1/12) to stabilize the positive charges on N of pyrrole rings. These dopant anions were found to play important roles on physical, chemical, and electrical properties of PPy as revealed by several techniques, e.g. X-ray photoelectron spectrometer and the custom-made four-point probe conductivity meter. PPys doped with alpha-naphthalene sulfonate (PPy/A) and beta-naphthalene sulfonate (PPy/B) have good pellet appearance, solubility, thermal stability,
