Abstract:
This article highlights the importance of spiritual pilgrims’ pre-travel experiences and belief in the divine spirit to fulfil their spiritual journey. We explore the experiences of travellers who visited the Naga Cave and sought spiritual help to fulfil their desires. We used netnography to collect travellers’ stories to reveal the importance of seeking spiritual help and sharing experiences on Facebook to promote the sacredness of Phu Aue Lue and the Naga Cave. Some travellers cleanse their spirits before the trip using meditation, prayer, adhering to the five Buddhist precepts, and going vegetarian. Physical fitness is also crucial, as the 1,400 metres of the extremely taxing trail in the cave demands four to five hours of hiking. Spiritual tourism offers an opportunity for psychological recovery post-COVID-19, and spiritual destinations with folkloric overtones, such as the Naga Cave, are expected to increase in prominence among spiritual and general tourists due to their inherent healing properties. Additionally, the tourism authority may employ further marketing and promotional initiatives to promote Naga Cave as a sustainable tourist destination. The use of mass media for communication has been of interest in recent years, with studies examining the use of new media by individuals and the significance of Naga in Thai architectural and sculptural ornaments.

Abstract:
Paranormal tourism is a lucrative market offering visitors the opportunity to engage with enchanting experiences and stories in destinations around the world. Specifically, ghost tourism connects people to the dead (and death) through dark narratives, supernatural legends, and participatory experiences. Previous scholarship has suggested that ghost tourism exhibits characteristics of dark tourism (by visiting dark places) and spiritual tourism (by engaging in spiritual practices); however, this relationship has not been fully explored. The purpose of this conceptual paper is to consider where the experiential and motivational characteristics of dark, spiritual, and paranormal tourism converge, and to consider whether this convergence produces a dark spiritual experience for consumers. Three dimensions are identified as contributing towards the degree of dark experience offered by ghost tourism: place, promotion and production, and participation. To conclude, a Dark Spiritual Experience Spectrum is proposed, illustrating the characteristics of each dimension and their influence on the degree of dark spiritual experience offered to consumers. It is argued that these dimensions have the potential to impact the tourist experience, influence visitor motivations, and, consequently, drive an evolving paranormal market.

Abstract:
Abstract Spiritual tourism is becoming one of the trends in Bali. Many people are currently promoting spiritual tourism. Starting from the private sector as well as under the management of tourist villages or customary villages. One of the popular ones is melukat, which is generally done by bathing in a water source that they consider sacred. Although spiritual tourism has been managed and supervised, it sometimes comes with risks. There have been several instances of visitors breaking the rules in sacred places. For example, they were climbing onto a pelinggih (shrine). Customary villages in Bali have the authority to manage and develop tourist villages through Baga Utsaha Padruwen Desa Adat (BUPDA). As with official villages, customary villages can manage tourist villages by utilizing the potential of their area. One of them is spiritual tourism. In terms of regulations, the Bali Provincial Government has tried to provide a legal umbrella related to tourism management to customary villages. However, this is not enough. Customary villages, both in terms of institutions and communities, can strengthen their role if they can manage tourist attractions in their area. One of the important things in this case is the formation and strengthening of the quality of Human Resources (HR). In spiritual tourism management, customary villages need to have reliable human resources. Of course, to procure quality human resources requires a lot of money. Especially if recruiting professionals in their fields. However, following the spirit of gilik-saguluk (togetherness), salunglung sabayantaka (cooperation), and sareng-sareng (participation) owned by indigenous villages, quality human resources can be formed through the empowerment of krama (community members) of indigenous villages who can manage tourism, based on education and experience. On the other hand, some cases involving visitors to sacred places in Bali are certainly detrimental to customary villages, both institutionally and as a community. This relates to the impact caused, when inappropriate things are done in sacred places, for example climbing or sitting on pelinggih, doing damage, and so on. Although the customary village has made efforts to supervise cases have recurred. Therefore, customary villages or managers cannot work alone in terms of this supervision. The involvement of security forces is needed. The customary village already has pecalang who is in charge of security. However, pecalang must also be supported through training by involving related institutions, such as the police. This research addressed three issues: 1) How is the authority of customary villages in Bali in the management of tourism in the region? 2) How is the strategy to strengthen the role of customary villages in the management of spiritual tourism? 3) What are the efforts of customary villages in monitoring spiritual tourism in their area? The purpose of writing the article is to examine the authority of customary villages in tourism management, strengthening the role of customary villages in spiritual tourism management, and supervision of spiritual tourism in their area. The method used is qualitative through a literature research. Data is collected from previous literature that discusses spiritual tourism and the role of customary villages and then analyzed. Traditional Siangan Traditional Village can be found 31 kilometers northeast of Denpasar City. As a spiritual tourism village, this village has cultural potential that can be developed. Seven ancient sites, natural beauty, local art, and cultural traditions can all be used as tourist attractions in Siangan Traditional Village. Abstract:
Religious tourism holds a significant position in the global tourism industry, attracting visitors to culturally and spiritually significant pilgrimage sites. Indonesia, ranked second in The Global Travel Muslim Index 2022, has witnessed a rise in Muslim tourists exploring religious destinations. Ensuring the sustainability of religious tourism and enhancing the spiritual pilgrimage experience necessitates critical thinking, innovative approaches, and effective communication strategies. Promotion through social media is crucial for marketing religious tourism destinations. However, challenges persist in Indonesia's tourist development due to the absence of an integrated marketing communication strategy. Research emphasizes the importance of communication strategies and the preservation of cultural and religious diversity for the sustainability of religious tourism. In South Kalimantan, despite the potential for religious tourism, the COVID-19 pandemic has led to a decline in visitor numbers. Employing a qualitative approach, including interviews and SWOT analysis, this study formulates a strategic communication plan for promoting the Guru Sekumpul Tomb. The strategy focuses on product packaging, nuanced marketing communication, a serene pilgrimage ambiance, and leveraging digital media platforms, along with collaboration with local stakeholders and optimal use of natural resources. Ultimately, integrating innovative knowledge and skills is crucial for the success and sustained viability of religious tourist sites, concurrently elevating the spiritual pilgrimage experience.

However, based on the phenomenon that occurs in several tourist destinations around the world it is found that many tourist attractions are especially damaged in Indonesia due to irresponsible actions. The purpose of this study was to reveal the legal protection of one of the tourist attractions in Indonesia, Maria Cave as a spiritual tourism destination in the City of Kediri. The study was conducted based on research methods using normative jurisdiction review. The results of the study revealed that so far the legal protection of spiritual tourism has been supported by the government but concretely has not been found in the Kadiri city government regulations. Therefore, to minimize the existence of activities that can cause damage and forms of protection of existing tourist destinations, it is necessary to specifically make government and local government regulations as well as to supervise and impose strict sanctions on all forms of irresponsible actions which are certainly supported by a budget enough when using technology for sustainable tourism. Religious heritage sites are defined by their nature, both religious and non-religious (historical, social, cultural, etc.), as being pilgrimage destinations, as well as tourist attractions. The main aim of this paper is to determine whether there is a relationship between tourism accessibility and the concept of spiritual sustainability. Spiritual sustainability is presented in the paper by analyzing the concept of a sacred place and the connection it may have with tourism development. The authors have attempted to distinguish the elements determining the tourist and religious (spiritual) attractiveness of several pilgrimage sites as destinations for religious tourism, proposing a model for analyzing the connection between the two concepts studied. Two European regions have been compared—Pomerania (Poland) and Catalonia (Spain)—by analyzing 30 sacred sites (15 per region) using a combination of qualitative and quantitative research methods. The results show that a lack of accessibility positively affects the spiritual sustainability of the sites. In other cases, the impact that accessibility can have depends on the management system.

Abstract:
Purpose – The growth of non-materialistic impulses among people around the world has led to the emergence of a special category of tourism that can be termed ‘spiritual tourism’. This article presents an attempt to provide a conceptual model for spiritual tourism drawing from the literature on spirituality, religion, and tourism. Design/ Approach – As this study intends to build a bridge between spirituality and tourism, the authors reviewed various articles and adopted the Spiritual Intelligence Model devised by Hanefar, Sa’ari, and Siraj (2016) to build a conceptual model of spiritual tourism. Methodology – Content analysis was used to arrange more than forty dimensions of spiritual tourism from the chosen articles. These dimensions were coded and mapped against the Spiritual Intelligence Model. Findings – The emergent dimensions of spiritual tourism showed that tourism offers unique opportunities in guiding human being to gain spiritual development through religion and non-religion tourism activities/experiences. Originality of the research – The authors developed a Conceptual Model of Spiritual Tourism with seven themes: Meaning/Purpose of life, Consciousness, Transcendence, Spiritual resources, Self-determination, Reflection – soul purification, and Spiritual coping (with obstacles). This model intends to serve as a systematic pathway to authors and other researchers for future research related to spiritual tourism.

Abstract:
With the onset of 2015, globalization is perhaps one of the most dynamic issues concerning the social sciences. It is critical to map all fields of the human/cultural experience that are susceptible to manifestations of globalization in the growing international tourism industry. In this study I have focused on the evolution of the Peruvian Andean highlands’ massive tourist industry, including a specific analysis on the Paz Y Luz Healing Centre, in order to address spiritual tourism and its appropriation and commodification processes. In my exploration of Andean mysticism and the concept’s effect on local cultural heritage, I have found it essential to consult Foucauldian understandings of the gaze, as well as several other perspectives on the role of ritual elements in the construction of spiritual realities. Subsequently I have been led to perhaps a predictable conclusion: spiritual tourism is a living relic of colonialism. It dilutes the cultural and spiritual heritage of peoples like the Q’ero for consumption by tourists, who use the gaze and its created ‘other’ to validate their own construction of spiritual realities.

The exploitation of spiritual values to develop tourism in Vietnam already formed the value chain of spiritual tourism. The first goal of the value chain of spiritual tourism is increasing benefits for local economy. However, the issue of economic benefits is only one part of the goal of sustainable development. If we only focus on economic benefits and do not care about environmental, cultural and social conservation, we will have to get social and environmental risks. From fieldwork activities with in-depth interviews, participant observation in spiritual tourism destinations of Vietnam, including Sam Mountain - Chau Doc - An Giang, the author had the opportunity to learn and recognize the practice of stakeholders in spiritual tourism. Combined with the secondary sources, the author discusses characteristics, forming conditions and exploitation of spiritual tourism in Vietnam. Since then, based on the perspective of sustainable development, the author makes some recommendations to upgrade the value chain of spiritual tourism.

Abstract:
Contemporary society understands spirituality as an individualized "quest of self-discovery and reflection" that combines eclectic elements, while disregarding traditional religious organizations. This social context has shaped how sacred sites are managed and promoted in tourism, as well as tourist motivation and behaviour. Still, the information on religious and spiritual-related tourism remains Euro-centric, although around half of an estimated 600 million religious and spiritual travels take place in Asia and the Pacific (UNWTO 2011). In order to contribute to studies on the area, the purpose of this article is to explore the intersection of spirituality and tourism in a non-Western pilgrimage site utilizing the three categories of Olsen (2015) to interpret and organize research materials in a coherent format. The Kumano Kodo pilgrimage trails in Japan were selected as case study. Results showed a variety of Japanese-specific research materials related to contemporary spirituality and tourism that still draw some parallels to the West. Following Olsen's categories, the case study showed mainly elements from spiritual tourism, with some from New Age tourism as well. Wellness was a particularly emphasized characteristic. Further research is suggested to develop Olsen's categorization and to deepen the study of non-Western tourism contexts of contemporary spirituality in different areas.

Abstract:
Globalization and digitization are motivating organizations around the world to manage and internationalize their products and services. Adaptively, most Asian companies are internationalizing their businesses with respect to various industries; one obvious example is the tourism industry. The global tourism industry can be segmented into niche types such as heritage tourism, dark tourism, medical tourism, including spiritual tourism. The objective of this paper is to analyze the rise of spiritual tourism in South Asian countries and discusses its operations that are internationalized rather than being region-centric or locally focused. It is argued that that public and private tourism operators in South Asia have realized that spiritual tourism presents an attractive product to invest and market based on people, places, and events. However, the challenge is to internationalize multi-faith spiritual tourism in the context of people, places, and events that would be the only way to develop and sustain this niche segment of the tourism business. It is argued that there are various factors that could enable South Asian countries to effectively internationalize their spiritual tourism destinations. The paper concludes that business internationalization of South Asian spiritual tourism, will not only achieve economic development objectives, but also social and United Nations Sustainable Development Goals, and bi-lateral diplomatic goals for regional peace and prosperity

Buleleng regent, Putu Agus Suradnyana confirmed Tamblingan will be promoted as a spiritual tourism object. the plan was a request from pengrajeg catur desa or four villages leader on Tamblingan Lake vicinity. The Lake status as a sacred site, has been preserved since the 10th century. The ancient Tamblingan communities erected many holy shrines nearby. They are Dalem Tamblingan temple, Endek temple, Ulun Danu temple, Sang Hyang Kangin temple, and Sang Hyang Kawuh temple. Then Gubug Temple, Tirta Mengening Temple, Naga Loka Temple, Pengukiran Temple, Pengukusan, Batulepang Temple, Embang temple and Tukang Timbang temple. Despite its status as holy site, Tamblingan Lake acts as sanctuary to various types of vegetation and wild animals. The regental government realized the byproduct possibilities of promoting new tourism object is land conversion. Tourist area status often invites high-scale business investors to establish supporting facilities around the site, which can adversely affect the lake habitat's sustainability. to minimise further exploitation, Agus Suradnyana encourages indigenous villages to compose pararem (customary rules) in the villages around Lake Buyan and Tamblingan. The regulation is expected to prevent land conversion in the villages around Buyan-Tamblingan lakes, as well as to maintain groundwater availability in the long run.

Abstract:
Spiritual tourism is a form of tourism where one of the objectives is to seek peace of mind and spirituality. Spiritual tourism has been around for a long time, but recently it has experienced an increasing trend with many young people needing a break from their routine and seeking spiritual peace. There are various choices of spiritual tourism destinations, but there are still few studies that find out the background of tourists' decision making to visit. This study was conducted to try to find out this. This study uses two price and attractiveness variables as the antecedent variables of the decision to visit. The study was carried out by distributing questionnaires to tourists taking spiritual tourism trips to St. Mary Grotto Kerep Ambarawa. The results of the questionnaire were then processed using multiple linear regression methods. The results of the study show that both price and attractiveness have an influence on tourists' visiting decisions to a spiritual tourism destination.

Abstract:
Rote Ndao Regency is geographically designated as an autonomous region that has natural and cultural charms. Various types of tourism potential such as natural tourism, spiritual tourism, cultural tourism, culinary tourism, and marine tourism can be found in Rote Ndao Regency. This potential is a very valuable asset in attracting foreign and domestic tourists who visit and enjoy tourism in Rote Ndao Regency. The Ministry of Culture and Tourism of Rote Ndao Regency already has a tourism website, but the absence of several features on the tourism website makes tourists not aware of tourist attractions in the Rote Ndao Government. For that we need a system that is able to provide an overview of tourist destinations. So that later it can help tourists in choosing tourist objects that are suitable for tourists. The Tourism Object Mapping System is based on WebGIS and uses the PHP and MYSQL programming languages ??as databases. The results of this study are in the form of an application that can provide information about a map of the location of tourist attractions, facilities available at tourist attractions, and the distance to tourist attractions in Rote Ndao Regency.

Abstract:
Purpose – This paper aims to highlight the significance of partnership among stakeholders as a marketing strategy for Islamic spiritual tourism. Partnership as a marketing strategy is studied by interviewing stakeholders on the supply side of Islamic tourism. Only recently, Islamic spiritual tourism has been identified, not recognised yet, as a growing segment of Islamic tourism that needs to be effectively marketed. Design/methodology/approach – Convenient sampling was used in this exploratory research to select and interview tourism operators selling in-bound and out-bound Islamic spiritual tourism in Australia and Pakistan. Cross-case content analysis was used to identify critical themes related to marketing Islamic spiritual tourism. Findings – Three issues emerged from the content analysis in this study: political, commercial and religious. The management of these three issues is found necessary to effectively build and implement horizontal partnerships among stakeholders on the supply side in Islamic spiritual tourism. Research limitations/implications – The selected sample is not the representation of the population based in the two countries. Only few potential participants agreed to be interviewed due to the perceived threat of manipulation of their views. Findings of this research contribute to the theory of marketing Islamic tourism specifically, and tourism in general. Practical implications – The three issues found in this study provide a guideline for crafting strategies to market Islamic spiritual tourism based on local and global partnerships. Social implications – The three issues found in this study provide a platform for cultural understanding and coherence. Originality/value – This original study advocates partnerships among tourism operators, government bodies, destination managers and religious organisations involved in Islamic spiritual tourism. The structure and implementation of partnerships should critically consider the political, commercial and religious issues.

Abstract:
The article is devoted to the study of tourism in understanding the processes of modern spiritual life of man and society. The purpose of our article is to characterize the spiritual and practical value orientation of such a social group as tourists, and the study of tourism in understanding the processes of modern spiritual life of Ukrainians. The object of the research is tourism as an innovative space of value exchange. Expanding the meaning of the concept of «tourist» we define it as a subject of value paradigm of modern tourism.Tourism is a dynamic entity that is formed and changed in relation to the value-orientation needs of both society as a whole and an individual as a whole. The emergence of new values and the recognition of their motives, inducing action, create the life path, the presence of which makes a person an active subject of tourism. In general, modern tourism marks the process of creating a culture. It serves as a modifier of socio-cultural changes in the axisosphere, absorbing in the mechanism of functioning such characteristics of socio-cultural reality as mobility, virtuality, visibility, and accentuation of consumer priorities. In addition, the modern tourist is similar to Stalker from the film by A. Tarkovsky, who «travels» to the Zone, where he is awaited by a room, in which his main desire to understand his essence and purpose is fulfilled.
