Hemangiosarcoma is a common neoplasm of the spleen in older dogs. However, diagnosis is complicated by necrosis and hemorrhage, which can mimic a number of benign processes. Currently, there is no consensus about the number of sections pathologists should examine to rule out hemangiosarcoma. There were 21 ultrasonographic studies conducted on separate dogs with the average age being 9.6±0.63 years with pathohistologically proven hemangiosarcoma of the spleen. The tumor lesions were with different sizes ranging from 0.5 to upwards of 7cm with irregular shape, uneven outlines and poor differentiation from the surrounding tissue. In the cases of bigger neoplastic formations heteroechogenity and internal cavities were easy to see and were caused by tissue breaking apart. Abstract:
Hemangiosarcoma is a malignant tumor of endothelial cells and mostly seen in dogs than in other species. A 10-year male German shepherd dog (GSD) was presented to the small animal clinic with history of swollen abdomen and weakness. The dog was conscious but lethargic, weak, tachycardic with muffl ed heart sounds, labored breathing and tensed swollen abdomen. Radiography, Ultrasonography and a hemogram and biochemistry indicated splenic mass, internal hemorrhage and hemostasis pathology. The dog was euthanized and on post mortem examination, diagnosis of splenic  hemangiosarcoma was made.

There were 21 blood chemistry examinations conducted on separate dogs with the average age be-ing 9.6±0.63years with pathohistologically proven hemangiosarcoma of the spleen. The results were compared with a control group of 10 clinically healthy dogs. We confirmed higher values of ASAT, ALAT, AP, bilirubin, hyperproteinemia, hypoalbuminemia, hyperglobulinemia, urea and creatinine. In conclusion: hemangiosarcoma of the spleen in dogs is accompanied with data for serious kidney and liver dysfunction.

Tg.rasH2 mice are predisposed to hemangiosarcomas. Following the spleen, the uterus is the second most commonly affected organ in the female mice. Female mice are also predisposed to spontaneous vascular proliferative lesions on the serosal surface of the uterus, in which there is proliferation of normal vessels that are lined by well-differentiated endothelial cells.
