Abstract:
Splenosis is auto transplantation of splenic tissue following traumatic rupture of the spleen. In females it can mimic endometriosis when symptomatic. Asymptomatic splenosis is common than previously suspected and it can also involve ovary. In a patient with a history of splenectomy, splenosis can act and provide the function of the spleen and thus should not be routinely excised. We report a case of an asymptomatic, incidental ovarian splenosis of left ovary accompanying multiple pelvic and serosal splenotic nodules. To our best knowledge, total three cases of ovarian splenosis have been repo

Splenosis refers to the seeding of splenic cells associated with surgery or trauma. Splenosis mimicking other diseases has been reported in the literature. To the best of our knowledge, this is the first case of follicular lymphoma in a patient with splenosis whose diagnosis of lymphoma was delayed because of a known history of splenosis. We report a 48-year-old male patient who underwent splenectomy because of injury from a high fall 20 years previously. He had no symptoms other than mild abdominal pain until 2 years previously, which was thought to be associated with splenosis. When his symp

ABSTRACT Splenosis is defined as viable splenic tissue that is autotransplanted into other compartments in the body. Intrahepatic splenosis is a rare diagnosis that can be difficult for clinicians to identify. The most common causes of splenosis include abdominal trauma and splenectomy. While most patients with intrahepatic splenosis are asymptomatic, in the presence of risk factors of hepatocellular carcinoma, it is paramount to rule out malignancy. In this report, we present a patient with imaging findings concerning for hepatocellular carcinoma, ultimately diagnosed with percutaneous biopsy

Splenosis is a rare condition described as the implantation of ectopic splenic tissue, usually after a splenic rupture. Thoracic splenosis refers to acquired ectopic splenic tissue found within the thoracic cavity, often caused by thoracoabdominal trauma or surgery. Most cases are asymptomatic and many years may elapse before they are incidentally discovered on chest radiography or thoracic computed tomography. Splenosis is often misinterpreted as a malignancy on initial imaging. We wish to highlight a rare case of thoracic splenosis presenting with calcified and non-calcified nodules. Only tw

This article is devoted to such a benign acquired condition as postsplenectomy splenosis, which is often incorrectly interpreted as a primary malignant tumor or secondary (metastatic) tumor process. The article provides a modern definition of the concept of «splenosis», examines the main mechanisms of autotransplantation of splenic tissue, indicates the most typical localizations of splenosis foci, provides the timing of the onset of splenosis, considers possible clinical manifestations and potential complications of this condition, discusses modern approaches to diagnostics, differential diag

Splenosis is the autotransplantation of splenic tissue, most commonly seen after traumatic splenic rupture and splenectomy. Post-traumatic splenosis is often considered a rare entity, but is probably underreported because of its asymptomatic nature. We describe the first reported case of splenosis presenting as a liver mass, indistinguishable from a liver tumor by standard preoperative evaluation. The pathophysiology, evaluation and management of splenosis is discussed as well as the decision to resect a benign appearing liver mass.

Splenosis is a harmless condition after a splenic injury or a spleen removal. It is heterotopic autotransplantation of splenic tissue seen inside the abdominal and pelvic holes. On imaging, various conditions can be differential diagnosis with splenosis, including metastatic infection, peritoneal carcinoma, peritoneal mesothelioma, stomach lymphoma, renal disease, hepatic adenomas, or endometriosis, dependent on its transmission. Splenosis is a condition in which ectopic spleen tissue may be found in the peritoneal cavity or in other unusual locations due to heterotopic implantation of splenic tissue after spleen trauma or splenectomy (SE),which have the physical function similar to normal spleen and can maintain normal immunological function. It is a benign condition that is often misdiagnosed as a malignant tumor, and then the patients underwent unnecessary operations.
