This paper presents a new learning algorithm for inducing decision trees from data streams. In these domains, large amounts of data are constantly arriving over time, possibly at high speed. The proposed algorithm uses a top-down induction method for building trees, splitting leaf nodes recursively, until none of them can be expanded. The new algorithm combines two split methods in the tree induction. The first method is able to guarantee, with statistical significance, that each split chosen would be the same as that chosen using infinite examples. By doing so, it aims at ensuring that the tr

In accounting for the similarity of patterning between the second member of an onset and a coda consonant, we propose to augment Prince & Smolensky's (P&S, 1993/2002) Margin Hierarchy so as to distinguish between structural positions that prefer low sonority and those that prefer high sonority. The classical Levinson-Durbin linear prediction formulas for real valued input sequences are examined and compared to the recently proposed split-Levinson formulas. Both the autoregressive linear predictor model and the adaptive lattice model are used to formulate the new split-Levinson algorithms. A brief introduction to the theory of symmetric polynomials is presented to form the basis of the new algorithms. Computer simulations are used to test and compare the computational accuracy of the new algorithms for AR filter coefficient estimation, parameter estimation for a moving average process

Management is based on salt restriction and the use of diuretics. Diuretics have greatly improved its management, but in severe cases, ultrafiltration or dialysis may be needed for its treatment. In congestive heart failure, the nephrotic syndrome, or primary sodium retention, one proceeds rapidly, using mainly loop diuretics. Weight loss of 1 kg/day is a typical goal. This paper outlines an approach to disaggregating labor payments in the GTAP, global economic data base. The split between low- and high-skilled labor is based on occupational data. High-skilled labor is assumed to consist of managers, administrators, professionals, and para-professionals. Data are gathered on this occupational split, by sector, in fifteen different economies, and these are mapped to GTAP sectors. Regression analysis shows a systematic relationship between GDP per capita and the national stock of tertiary and secondary educated labor on the one hand, and the sectoral labor pay

Abstract:
Traffic signal performance measures based on connected vehicle (CV) trajectory data can provide practitioners actionable information on the operational state of their systems. Agencies need visualization tools that can enable them to quickly assess arterial-level performance by time-of-day (TOD) to identify challenges and opportunities. This document presents a framework to report four signal performance measures over a corridor for all relevant movements, including traditional Highway Capacity Manual (HCM) level of service (LOS), arrivals on green (AOG), split failures (SF), and downstream bl

Abstract:
In this project, Intelligent Automation, Incorporated (IAI) and Oak Ridge National Lab (ORNL) propose a novel and integrated approach to inspect the mechanical dents and metal loss in pipelines. It combines the state-of-the-art SH wave Electromagnetic Acoustic Transducer (EMAT) technique, through detailed numerical modeling, data collection instrumentation, and advanced signal processing and pattern classifications, to detect and characterize mechanical defects in the underground pipeline transportation infrastructures. The technique has four components: (1) thorough guided wave modal analysis

Abstract:
In static applied general equilibrium models, the exogenous/endogenous split between variables (or closure) is used to infer the time frame over which the effects of a shock are simulated. This paper introduces a long-run closure for the GTAP model (Hertel and Tsigas, 1997) and uses this closure to simulate and compare the short-run and long-run effects of Asia-Pacific trade liberalisation. The approach explored here incorporates some relatively minor changes to existing GTAP theory in order to define a steady state in which growth rates of all real variables are uniform. Such uniformity must
