Coal mine tailings can lead to a range of environmental problems, including toxic metal contamination, soil erosion, acid mine drainage, and increased salinity. Mine spoils from coal mining activities accumulated as gob piles are difficult to reclaim due to constraints such as a steep slope, unsuitable pH, insufficient nutrient supply, metal toxicity, low water-holding capacity, and poor soil structure. We investigated the efficiency of low-cost amendments on coal gob spoils from Carthage Coal Field (CCF) in New Mexico in improving the quality of coal gob spoils. Gob spoil was incubated for 90

The road construction industry consume a considerable amount of natural aggregates in the world. As a consequence, the increase in the natural aggregates demand increases the construction cost. On the other hand, marble spoil waste, generated from marble cutting and polishing process, is an environmental nuisance in the world. Indeed, an economical solution to this problem is the reuse of these wastes as an aggregates for road construction. The main objective of this study is to evaluate the usability of aggregate, obtained by crushing marble waste, as a conventional aggregate for road constru

A dump is a loose accumulation of solid waste from mining operations that easily leads to disasters such as landslides and debris flows. Taking a dump in the Panzhihua region of China as an example, based on the MPM and SPH meshless methods, the dynamic calculation of the instability process of the spoil slope was carried out according to the realistic three-dimensional calculation model of the generated terrain. Firstly, the strain and displacement of the dump under normal conditions and heavy rainfall conditions were simulated by the MPM material point method. The maximum spatial displacemen

The processes of hard coal extraction and processing are accompanied by the generation of a considerable amount of post-mining extractive waste, which in most cases is deposited on the ground surface. In the past, such waste was disposed of by deposition in bings and spoil piles of various kinds. The application of modern technologies makes it possible to recycle, reuse or reclaim extractive waste in engineering works or as a substitute of natural aggregates used for the construction of different kinds of banks and embankments. Yet, comprehensive research on butterflies, an emblematic group of insects, has been surprisingly lacking. This study aimed to assess the diversity and distribution of butterflies on these heaps employing a consistent methodology and data collection approach conducted by the same team throug
