Abstract:
The article analyzes gender verification of sportswomen as one of the surveillance practices present in sports. The main questions are: (1) Whose bodies are under surveillance? (2) What are the latent functions of the surveillance practices? (3) How are these practices perceived inside and outside the sport? The article is based on the author’s research - individual in-depth interviews with sportswomen, coaches and sports activists and representatives of feminist organizations. Its purpose is to draw attention to the issues of gender and sport, which are marginalized in the frame of surveillance studies.

Abstract:
Abstract Background Research on the prevalence of sexual violence in sport mostly focuses on incidents of sexual violence that happen in the context of sport, but few studies are available that systematically target the lifetime prevalence of sexual violence in the athletes (as persons), combining experiences in sport and outside the sport system. The aim of the current study was thus to compare sexual violence experiences of elite athletes in Germany in sport with those outside sport. Methods The study was carried out in cooperation with the German Olympic and Paralympic Committee who contacted their registered elite athletes. In total, 1529 elite athletes took part in an online survey and answered questions regarding their sexual violence experiences first in the context of sport and afterwards outside the sport context. Results Results show that 54.2% of the athletes had experienced some form of sexual violence during their lifetime, 20.6% even a severe incident of sexual violence. Incidents happened more often outside sport than in sport, but 48% of the victims were affected in both areas of life, indicating a high overlap of victimization experiences. Conclusion One recommendation from our results is therefore to make even stronger efforts to protect young athletes from becoming a victim of sexual violence. In case a sport club has a person of trust in the club, it can be an important place for athletes with sexual violence experiences (no matter whether experienced inside or outside sport), so that they are being heard and helped.

Abstract:
Inge Kryger Pedersen and Lars Benjaminsen:
Bulked-up bodies and education: Doping as a social practice
During the last decades sociological analyses have interpreted doping and use of performance-enhancing substances as a social phenomenon mainly in the field of sports. In this article, logistic regression analyses of a questionnaire survey conducted among a random sample of the Danish population between the ages of 15-50 (2003 respondents) and persons engaged in different types of sports and exercise activities in Denmark (5036 respondents) show that pharmacological methods (medicines, drugs) have been adopted by trained, physically fit individuals outside sports. Studies indicate that experiences with performance-enhancing substances outside – and not within – competi¬ti¬ve sports are socially stratified. Use of anabolic steroids in gyms is prevalent among men with little or no education. This article looks at these observable variations in social position by drawing upon Bourdieu’s analysis of the logic of practice, his concepts of practical sense and the search for social distinction in the construction of life-styles. Despite certain limitations regarding issues of agency, it is argued that drug use outside the sphere of competitive sport can be viewed as a bodily practice related to social parameters such as the level of education. Use of doping substances outside the sphere of sport is re¬-lated to aesthetic modification, whereas doping in organised competitive sports primarily intends to enhance various physiological parameters. These para¬meters are related both to the specific skills required for the sport and to the logic of competition. This might explain why doping experiences in competitive sports do not seem to be stratified by education.

Abstract:
Summary Although sport can promote moral values and prosocial behavior in youth, numerous research shows that sports engagement alone does not guarantee that outcome. Instead of striving for fair-play and sport excellence which not exclude justness, solidarity and moral integrity, contemporary sport frequently follows the Lombardian ethic, where „winning isn’t everything, it’s the only thing”. Moral pause or bracketed morality, as described in sport, refers to the phenomenon of tolerance and acceptance of aggressive behavior or cheating, that will be morally condemned outside sports arenas. Accordingly, lower levels of moral reasoning and behavior have been identified in athletes and non-athletes in the sports-related situation in comparison to other life situations; in athletes when compared to non-athletes, in more experienced athletes, high-level athletes, team-sport athletes, and male athletes. Moral reasoning and behavior of athletes are influenced by contextual and personal factors, with coaches having a particularly important role to play. The positive influence of sport on the moral development of athletes might be related to pre-service and in-service education of coaches how to develop adequate moral atmosphere, and how to plan for moral decision-making as an integral part of everyday practice.

This commentary responds to an invitation to discuss sport management from the viewpoint of an administrator. My thoughts are segmented into two streams: (a) the interface of a sports-minded public and sport management and (b) the listing of a few issues and concerns confronting sport management today. The first recognizes the high profile of sport in American society and the rising gross national sport product (GNSP), which have placed sport management programs in the enviable position of visibility and attention. The second plays on several themes: continuing to improve the knowledge and research base, establishing an independent identity while sharing technology within HPER programs, and being sensitive to a growing trend toward more graduate students entering from fields outside sport, leisure, and Wellness.

Abstract:
Sport analytics promises to use Big Data and sophisticated statistical methods to identify effective strategies in sports—“the Moneyball moment.” However, much like alchemy, sport analytics is characterized by opacity and secrecy, and outside of baseball, evidence of success that would meet the usual scientific criteria is limited. An example is used to demonstrate that quite simple models can match more complex ones in terms of prediction. Like alchemy, sport analytics can deliver important advances in our understanding, but some problems need to be addressed. These include the need to incorporate theory, reconciling the pursuit of profit with scientific principles, and focusing on prediction as a measure of progress.

Abstract:
Previous research has shown that the existence of after school program is beneficial for children's health and their academic performance. Lorensborgsskolan, an elementary school situated in Malmö, implemented a project called “From movement in school to being active in organized sports” where they started a school sport organization. The project seeks to increase the amount of children active in external sport organizations and to make the transition more accessible. The project collaborated with Hemmaplan which is an initiative from the Scanian Basketball Federation. Therefore, the aim of this study was to discuss the prerequisites for implementing Lorensborgsskolans project “From movement in school to being active in organized sports” from a sustainable perspective. The sustainable perspective contains three concepts: social, environmental and economical. Three research questions has been formulated. How was the preparation of this project in relation to sustainability? What challenges can be identified when implementing this project? What benefits can be identified when implementing this project?Interviews, observation and document analysis were the methods used in this research and the data was analyzed through a six step coding process. The result and analysis were divided in three paragraphs named after the research questions connected to the theory. The research findings indicate how this project would give the children a protective factor outside of school. According to the collected result the children should be given the access to pursue sport in the entire city of Malmö and to work on their social skills. In conclusion, an external analysis should have been done before the implementation of the project. The financial aspect is identified as a challenge. For the children to be a part of the school’s sport organization is free of charge in contrast with external sport organizations where this does not imply.

The main questions which guided this study consider reflections about the assistance directed to children and teenagers in a vulnerable situation in Maringá, the analysis of the configurations of the Non-Formal Education scenario in the Brazilian Education and the factors which define the educational practices in institutions in the Third Sector. It was analyzed two philanthropic and social institutions in Maringa. The study is characterized by being a qualitative and multi-referential. The theoretical reference is composed by authors of the Popular Education, Non-Formal Education and critics of the Third Sector. The methodological procedures applied were: semi-structured interviews and focal groups. In order to understand the policy considering the assistance to children and teenagers interviews were performed with the members of the Municipal Committee of Children and Teenagers Rights – MCCTR and with employees of the Secretariat of Social Assistance and Citizenship – SSAC. To understand the effectiveness of these policy and the educational practices of the institutions, it was performed interviews with the social tutors, coordinators of the supplementary activities outside class time and also the assembling of focal groups with teenagers from the institutions. The main considerations about this study are: the SSAC establishes, most of the times, a relation with the institutions of supplementary activities outside class time of the bureaucratic and distant city. The MCCTR is characterized as a structure that seeks the democratic acting, but ends up being limited to projects, reports, few visits and verifies the denunciations. In relation to the social educators it is understood that they need to build up the educative action as a group, to reflect about the performed studies and reflect in order to discuss the aims and projects of the institutions of supplementary activities outside class time in which they work, to mediate the institutional proposals of the popular classes and the social policy. In relation to the teenagers, it is verified that they are from popular classes with a very low scholar output and who consider the institutions of supplementary activities outside class time that they participate a cozy space and an opportunity of being inserted into the work market and the ludic and sport activities represent a leisure and compensating time due to the routine that they have. In this way it was possible to highlight the urgent necessity of reflections about the public policy and educative actions formed in the partnerships established with the Third Sector and the State in order to the social inclusion of the children and teenagers in a vulnerable situation.

Abstract:
碩士
明志科技大學
環境與安全衛生工程系環境工程碩士班
108
During intense exercise, the respiratory rate becomes faster than in normal situations. If the ambient air quality is not good, inhaling massive contaminants could cause a higher risk for human health. In this study, the PM2.5, black carbon (BC), VOCs, and particle number concentrations were measured at different locations inside and outside the Xinzhuang sports park to recognize the difference of the air quality in different seasons and periods. Therefore, the citizen can find out the levels of the air quality in different seasons and periods at the Xinzhuang sports park by this research work. And a suitable outdoor sports time period can be suggested for the citizen based on this study results. The measurement results showed that the average PM2.5, BC, and particle number concentrations were the highest at the outside park in the winter evening and were 19.6 μg/m3, 2.83 μg/m3, and 2.9×104 particles/cm3, respectively. In the summer morning, the average PM2.5, BC, and particle number concentrations inside the park were the lowest and were 11.6 μg/m3, 1.08 μg/m3, and 1.0×104 particles/cm3, respectively. Measurement results showed that the particle mass size distributions at Xinzhuang sports park exhibited a bi-mode pattern. The dominant mode was at approximately 0.300.43 µm, and the minor mode was at approximately 2.192.98 µm. The source of coarse particles inside and outside the Xinzhuang sports park may be caused by the dust resuspended from people's walking, vehicle driving, and environmental cleaning activities, while fine particles may come from vehicle exhaust. In the summer season, the highest average VOCs concentration was observed at the outside park in the evening period and the lowest average VOCs concentration could be recorded at the inside park in the morning period. And the average BTEX concentrations were 64.73 µg/m3 and 32.86 µg/m3, respectively, at these two periods. In this study, an inhalation exposure model was adopted to evaluate the exposure risk in exercise. Whether in the summer or winter season, the inhalation exposure of air pollutants during the morning period is lower than that during the evening period inside the Xinzhuang sports park, and the highest inhalation exposure of air pollutants was observed at the outside of the park in the evening period. Therefore, the morning period is a better outdoor sports time for the citizen due to the lower exposure risk comparing to other time periods. Additionally, it was advised for the citizen to avoid exercise at the outside of the park where adjacent to traffic sources, because it could rise a higher exposure risk.

(11186802), Natalia Pineros Guerrero. "QUINONE OUTSIDE INHIBITOR (QOI) FUNGICIDE RESISTANCE AND MATING-TYPE DISTRIBUTION OF CERCOSPORA SOJINA POPULATIONS ON SOYBEAN FROM INDIANA." Thesis, 2021.

Find full text
Abstract:

Frogeye leaf spot (FLS) is a foliar disease in soybean (Glycine max (L.) Merr.) caused by the fungal pathogen Cercospora sojina Hara. FLS is commonly found in hot and humid regions of the southern United States but has become more common in the North Central states. Foliar application of quinone outside inhibitor (QoI) fungicides has been one of the major tools used in the management of this disease, but QoI-resistant C. sojina isolates have been already confirmed in 21 states, including Indiana. We hypothesized that resistant populations of C. sojina to QoIs fungicides are widespread in Indiana and that sexual reproduction is occurring within C. sojina populations, likely contributing to the dissemination of fungicide resistance. The main objectives of this research were to determine the distribution of QoI-resistant C. sojina isolates on soybean from Indiana and to evaluate C. sojina populations for potential sexual reproduction. In the summer of 2019 and 2020, 406 isolates of C. sojina were collected from 32 counties across Indiana and screened for QoI-fungicide resistance using a PCR-RFLP method. An in vitro fungicide sensitivity test was performed on a subset of isolates to evaluate the sensitivity of C. sojina isolates to azoxystrobin, pyraclostrobin, picoxystrobin, and prothioconazole. A discriminatory dose of picoxystrobin (QoI) and prothioconazole (demethylation inhibitor- DMI) were established at 1 μg/ml and 10 μg/ml, respectively, to distinguish between QoI-resistant and sensitive isolates and to identify a reduction in sensitivity to DMI fungicides, respectively. Discriminatory doses were estimated by testing five concentrations (0.001, 0.01, 0.1, 1, and 10 µg/ml) of each fungicide. QoI-resistant isolates were found in 29 out of the 32 counties. Two hundred and fifty-one (251) out of the 406 isolates (61.8%) were confirmed as QoI-resistant. Partial nucleotide sequences of the cyt b gene from four resistant and four sensitive C. sojina isolates corroborated the presence and absence of the G143A mutation, respectively. Results from the sensitivity assays with azoxystrobin and pyraclostrobin discriminatory doses supported the findings from the PCR-RFLP assay as all QoI-resistant mutants were inhibited less than 50% when exposed to these doses. Results from this study indicated that QoI-resistant C. sojina isolates are spread throughout Indiana and that prothioconazole (DMI) could be a potential supplemental or alternative fungicide to control FLS. Additionally, mating type distribution was determined in 43 C. sojina populations for assessment of potential sexual reproduction. Fifteen (15) populations did not deviate significantly from the expected 1:1 ratio, suggesting potential for cryptic sexual reproduction in these populations, but further research on genetic diversity is required to verify these results.

Abstract:
UCC Sports Law Clinic is the only undergraduate clinic of its kind in the world (https://sportslawclinic.wordpress.com/). It was initially founded and developed by Dr Aisling Parkes and Dr Seán Ó Conaill (UCC School of Law) in 2015, established on foot of an Irish Research Council New Foundations Award. The Clinic not only provides undergraduate law students with an exceptional research experience, as well as an extraordinary learning experience in terms of skills development and application of law to facts, but it also provides a free legal information service to the wider community both within and outside of UCC. It is a student-led initiative and encourages students to be creative, innovative and to think outside the box. Through student research, overseen by Dr Ó Conaill and Dr Parkes as clinic directors, a much-needed pro bono information service in the field of sport is made accessible to the local community.

Abstract:

Regions of the world that find themselves characterised by the term ‘developing’ often tend to observe significant growth rates, commonly having specific areas that are targeted for rapid modernisation, and with that see the emergence of high quality destinations and venues that serve as a focal point for major cities.

Many such regions fall outside the temperate climes of the conventionally ‘developed’ world and, by extension, they experience greater extremes of weather. The climate of Southeast Asia, for example, is mainly tropical, hot and humid all year round with rainfall plentiful.

With the significant urbanisation of these regions, designers will – to some extent – need to set- aside their conventional views on how to account for the climate. Through a case study that considers a contemporary stadium and focuses on the effects of wind-driven rain, this technical paper will demonstrate how the well established and emerging technologies of wind tunnel testing and Computational Fluid Dynamics (CFD) based modelling can be carefully employed in tandem to ensure that the architectural solution stands up to the tests the climate will offer.

Abstract:
Introduction: In Portugal, during COVID19pandemic, sport and fitness facilities were closed. When lockdown has been lifted, in order to prevent the spread of infection, indoor sport facilities were subject to specific regulations that limited indoor occupancy as well as manner of air ventilation. This study aims to analyze the impacts of these ventilation restrictions on indoor air comfort parameters in sport fitness facilities. Methodology: Temperature (T; ºC), relative humidity (RH; %), and carbon dioxide (CO2) were continuously monitored (41 days; spring and autumn) in four fitness centers situated in Oporto metropolitan area: two of them under normal ventilation conditions (i.e. before lockdown; NV1 and NV2) and two of them under temporary restrictions for indoor ventilations and occupancy (RV1 and RV2). Results and Discussion: Under normal ventilation conditions, T in fitness centers slightly varied (in NV1:22-25 ºC; NV2: 20-23 ºC) but in both clubs the comfort recommendations (18-25 ºC) were fulfilled. On contrary, RH were below guideline values (55-75%) in NV1 (47-54%) whereas at NV2 (66-73%) it fulfilled the recommendations. When specific health regulations took place, mean T ranges were similar in both clubs (RV1: 21-23 ºC; RV2:21-23 ºC) but they both exceeded recommended comfort levels (16-21 ºC). Mean RH were in accordance with the legislative values, but the very high temporal maxima (up to 75 and 89%) indicate the possible discomforts the that exercisers might have experienced. Concerning the CO2, the obtained results showed that indoorlevels decreased when specific health restrictions were in force (11-121%) most likely due imposed guidelines for human occupancy. Conclusions: The restrictions for ventilation and human occupancy positively impacted indoor levels of CO2. However, T and RH were on several occasions outside the recommended comfort levels, especially during group activity classes. As regular exercising in environmental conditions, such as elevated T and increased RH can cause health discomforts, these parameters should be carefully maintained within the recommended ranges even under restricted ventilation scenarios.

Abstract:
A numerical analysis is performed to study the characteristics of heat transfer from a block heat source module at different angles in two-dimensional cabinets. Great efforts are carried out to conduct the effects of thermal interaction between the air steams inside and outside the cabinet on the conjugate conduction–natural convection phenomena. Moreover, the enhancement of cooling performance of the heat source module through the construction of air vents on cabinet wall is rigorously examined. The computation domain covers the cabinet and the surrounding area, and the temperature and velocity fields of the cabinet and surrounding area are solved simultaneously. Results show that the thermal interaction between the airs inside and outside the cabinet, the module angle and vent position can significantly affect the transfer characteristics. Comparing the results for cases with and without the consideration of thermal interaction between the air streams, the difference in hot spot temperature of module can be up to 26% for Pr = 0.7, Kbf = Kpf = Kwf = 100, 105 ≦ Ra ≦ 107 and φ = 0°, 90°, 270°. The maximum reduction in hot spot temperature is about 41% when two air vents are constructed on cabinet wall. The variation of module angle results in the maximum difference of the hot spot temperature is 15% for closed cabinet, and 10% for ventilated cabinet.

Abstract:
Local hot spots occur in some pressure vessels and piping systems used in power and process plants. This type of damage is typically caused by loss of refractory lining on the inside wall of pressure components or due to a maldistribution of the flow within vessels containing catalysts and reactive fluids. In general, this form of damage can be detected by thermography or temperature sensitive paints on the outside of the vessel. Hot spot damage can reduce the overall load carrying capacity of a pressurized component due to lower yield strength of the damaged region resulting from localized increase in temperature. This paper investigates hot spot damage assessment by reviewing the available solutions. Various pressure vessel profiles including cylindrical, spherical and conical vessels are discussed.

Abstract:
In general, the trainer's technical abilities must be mastered by the trainer. The reason is that those who become coaches are generally former athletes. They are also have training certificates from various training and coaching clinics. However, the ability to communicate in coaching is not necessarily fully mastered by most coaches. The purpose of this research was to add theoretical development about the study of sports coaching communication, especially in the process of athlete physical and mental training by using descriptive qualitative research approaches. The results showed that the coaching communication patterns developed in the training process and outside the training. The form of coaching communication during and outside training is generally face-to-face. The method used in coaching communication is to use lectures and demonstrations as well as to involve video media to further stimulate achievement motivation for each athlete. The approach taken in coaching communication is an open, family, and personal approach. The choice of coaching communication methods has been proven to be able to motivate and build athletes' self-confidence and athletes can accept and interpret the instructional messages conveyed and desired by the coaches. Suggestions and recommendations that can be given in this research are on the certification of trainers for each sports trainer.
